Why You Can't Outwork Your Subconscious Blocks with Bri Seeley
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if the biggest thing standing between you and the life you want isn't your strategy, but your subconscious?
In this episode of The ThriveWorthy Podcast, Alicia sits down with subconscious success strategist, certified hypnotherapist, and entrepreneur Bri Seeley to explore why so many high-achieving professionals know what they want but still struggle to take action.
Bri shares her remarkable journey from a successful corporate career to building and exiting multiple businesses, and why every reinvention required her to rewrite the subconscious beliefs that no longer served her. Together, Alicia and Bri discuss how our earliest experiences shape the "operating system" we live from, why mindset alone isn't enough, and how changing what's happening beneath the surface transforms the results we create in our careers and lives.
If you've ever felt stuck, questioned whether you're meant for something more, or found yourself caught between fear and possibility, this conversation will help you understand why, and what you can do about it.
In this episode, we discuss:
• Why you can't outwork your subconscious blocks
• How childhood experiences create the beliefs that shape your adult life
• Why successful people still struggle with procrastination, imposter syndrome, and self-doubt
• The difference between mindset work and subconscious reprogramming
• How to identify the hidden beliefs keeping you stuck
• Why sitting on the fence of indecision drains your energy
• The connection between identity, courage, and meaningful career change
• Building trust in yourself and the universe, one small step at a time
• Why choosing "great" often requires leaving behind what's merely "good"
• Practical ways to begin creating lasting transformation from the inside out

Hi, everyone. It's Alicia. I'm so excited for you to listen to this episode today. I am joined by Bree Seely, who has had a real impact on me personally. She is a subconscious success strategist and a certified hypnotherapist. She's also an entrepreneur and has this wonderful career reinvention story, multiple reinventions, actually. And I think there's so much wisdom in this episode. We explore why mindset alone isn't enough and how you cannot outwork your subconscious blocks and what it really takes to create change from the inside out. Definitely drop me a comment, let me know what you think, and let me know what you want to hear more about. And then lastly, I want to tell you that I've created a new meditation bundle. You've probably heard me say on this podcast that regulating your nervous system is so important. And things like meditation and visualization are really powerful tools to create change in your life. And this meditation bundle includes three things. One, a seven-minute reset for clarity and calm, great to do at the beginning of the day, or anytime you just need a moment to regather yourself. The second one is an evening meditation, great to wind down on the train ride home or before sleep to leave all your worries and stress behind. And then the third one is a future self-visualization. And this is where you meet your 85-year-old self. It's a great tool to gain insights and wisdom and clarity from your higher self. If that interests you, there's a link in the show notes as to how to get the meditation bundle. Please feel free to send that to anyone who you think might benefit because I'm really just trying to get as much of this thinking and wisdom out there as it's helped me so much in my own life, and I can see it helping my clients. So with that, I hope you enjoy the episode and thank you for being here. And after over two decades as an executive in Human Resources, I learned that real success is both aligned and authentic, and it does not require self-abandonment. And now I help accomplished professionals create careers and lives that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. So in this podcast, each week, we'll explore a blend of neuroscience, psychology, and timeless spiritual wisdom, along with truly practical tools to help you create a life and career that are soul aligned. I'm so glad you're here because we are all worthy of thriving. And this podcast will give you the tools to do just that. Thanks for listening. Welcome back, everyone, to the Thrive Worthy Podcast. I'm your host, Alicia D. And today I have with me Brie Seely. Brie is a subconscious success strategist. She's an expert in hypnotherapy and helping people really rewire and change the beliefs that hold them back. And she herself has a beautiful story, a reinvention, which she's going to tell us about, both from leaving a corporate career and starting and exiting three businesses. And she's going to talk about the business she's creating now as we speak. And I've found it so fun and super helpful to be coached by Brie. And I really enjoyed getting to know you and getting your help with uh all things thrive worthy. So I am really excited to delve in. And this is really an episode that's for anyone who knows what they want or knows what they want to do, but can't quite get there. Like can't quite bridge the gap between knowing what they want and actually doing it. And so with that, Bree, I'm super excited to have you on the podcast. Thank you for joining. I'm so excited to start my Monday off with you. Thank you for having me. Yeah, I know. I can't believe it's Monday. Yeah. So why don't you tell us a little bit first about you and your background and how you got to where you are today?
SPEAKER_02Yep. So I grew up in a really small town in Minnesota. Ended up knowing that that wasn't my place, like at a pretty young age, went to college a year early, had no idea what I was gonna do, fell into taking some fashion classes at that college because I'd been sewing since I was five years old. Oh. Ended up with two degrees in fashion design, including two years studying in Italy. Um, I got my master's in Italy, came back to the States and got a real job and was working at that real job. And it was fine. It was lovely. I started as a receptionist. Within six months, they promoted me and doubled my pay. Within a year, they promoted me and doubled my pay again. I moved to another company, got a huge raise again. So at the age of, you know, 26, I was good. Like I was able to buy a house by myself at 26. Wow. I when you say real job, this was a job in fashion or not? No, not in fashion. So I was living in the Pacific Northwest, which basically my options were like Patagonia or Nordstroms.
SPEAKER_00And the fashion options were not full.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I was a designer. So working for Nordstroms was going to be more like merchandising or, you know, retail, things like that, not my vibe. And I'm not really, I joke all the time that I'm an indoor cat. So like I'm not really a Patagonia. Like that's just, I don't think I would have succeeded designing there. So I got a job as a receptionist and then, like I said, worked my way up. And, you know, by the age of 26, I mean, I think I was making like 80 or 90 bucks an hour. Like I was doing well, right? But behind the scenes, I was miserable. Now, concurrently with all of those things, I had also started doing fashion just on my own. So I was doing bridesmaids' dresses, prom dresses, homecoming dresses, things like that, right? And I started doing some art installations with fashion. I did a really cool exhibit that was the seven deadly sins through fashion and just started doing all these things and then got invited to bigger things in Seattle and uh competitions and started getting some notoriety. So I launched my first collection. And so kind of as I'm, you know, have this stable job, but I'm miserable in it, but I'm making really good money, I'm concurrently trying to build my dream alongside of it. You know, fast forward, I ended up moving to Los Angeles with my fashion company. My my job at the time was remote, so I could live wherever I wanted. And out of the blue in 2014, 2015, I got an email that said, just a reminder, since you're not a full-time employee anymore, we're cutting your pay in half. And I didn't get the first notification. So the reminder was like a not quite a reminder. It was like a two by four. Yeah. And so I knew I didn't want to do that job. I wasn't about to go full-time again. And I decided that I was gonna trust the universe and go on unemployment and quit.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02Well, I didn't quit. I just let them phase me out, right? So, but in that transition from being an employee to now being a full-time entrepreneur, oh my gosh, the the hardest part of that transition was all mental. Right. It was all of the beliefs that I had been raised in about you need a stable job in order to be successful in the world. You know, even when I left that job, my mom was like, and I I love my mom so much, but you know, we we very much work off of different paradigms. She was like, you know, you should you should keep your certification just in case. Like you, you should keep doing all of your continuing ed credits, you should keep your certification like just in case. And I was like, I would rather be a waitress than ever go back to that job, if that's what it came down to. Yeah. Thank goodness. Been a full-time entrepreneur for 12 years, have not had to go back and get a get a job. But the process that I had to go through was unraveling all of those beliefs and all those paradigms. It was basically the rule book that my subconscious had picked up and written as truth at a very young age. And so we can't, you can't outwork your subconscious blocks. So I had to at that time really go through what are all the things that I'm believing about what's possible for me and the rules of life. Because if I keep running my life off of these old rules, I can never be successful as a full-time entrepreneur. So I started doing a lot of entrepreneurial development. I started doing a lot of self-development. I was pretty spiritual at the time, but like I even increased that. Started doing the miracle morning every morning and really just threw myself headfirst into entrepreneurship. So I'm running my business, I'm selling on zappos.com, I'm winning awards, I'm dressing Tony Braxton, I've got stuff, you know, the people that are singing the national anthem to open up the, you know, Lakers game, the like all sorts of like crazy stuff, right? And in 2015, March, March 2015, the spring equinox, I was meditating with a group of girlfriends and I heard this very clear fashion isn't it, shut it down, walk away. So what had also been happening behind the scenes of my fashion business was I was miserable in that as well. I basically recreated a job for myself. And I was running myself into the ground, I was working my ass off. I was so depleted, so burnt out, but I didn't have a choice. And so overnight, I was like, all right, I'm gonna trust that whatever this message was is guiding me in the right direction. And within 72 hours, I shut my fashion business down. Wow. And then the question was, I don't have a plan B. What's next? And over the course of a few months, I was working with a business coach and realized that people had been asking me, like, how did you do what you did? How did you build your business? How, like they were coming to me for business advice. And I was like, oh, I've I'm actually like really good at business. I was running my parents' candy store when I was young. You know, I've ran my own business for eight years. Like, I know I know what I'm doing. And so started doing business coaching and was really good at it. And within my first year, I had a six-figure business and things just kept rolling really well for 10 years, up until last year, when the universe hit me with kind of another, well, several two by fours all at one time. And I shut my coaching business down last year. But again, like the transition from fashion to coaching was all subconscious, right? It was all the belief work. It was all the can I really do this? Can I be this person? Can I succeed with this thing? Can I transition from having a product-based business to having a service-based business and an online-based business? What does that mean? Who am I in the process? And then again, like even shutting down my business, what, six months ago? You know, it's been the same process again as like I'm having, I'm having to redefine myself again. I'm having to rewrite my rule book because what I want next is radically different than what I've had in the past. And the rules that I've operated from in all of these varying iterations in the past don't apply to the game that I'm building for my next iteration of life. And so, and you know, you may not be shocked to hear this after hearing me speak, it's all around helping super, super, super highly capable and ambitious women reprogram their subconscious.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because the subconscious brain, I'm sure we'll go into a lot of this. The subconscious brain is 95% of the equation. So if you're not touching your subconscious brain and you're only trying to do it through mindfulness or meditation or affirmations, you're literally the iceberg is 5%, like that's what you're touching. 95% is underneath the water that you can't access on your own. So for me, I'm like, if I look at, okay, I have a 5% chance of success, or I have a 95% chance of success. Yeah. Personally, I'm always gonna take the 95% chance. And so I know the power. I've been, I've been a certified hypnotherapist since 2017. I know the power of using your subconscious towards building the successes that you want. And so that's kind of the new iteration, the new era that I'm moving into.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love it. It's beautiful. And I mean, you have such a beautiful career reinvention story, like multiple reinventions, and just listening to you talk, and I know we'll get into this, it is really interesting because going from the corporate job, receptionist, working your way up, and then getting to the point where you're your identity, you're accepting of this new way of working and like all the expansion that you talked about in fashion and whatnot, but that it's like it's like ready for that, you know, like your nervous system and your subconscious. So I know we'll get into that. But and I love what you said, you cannot outwork your subconscious blocks. And I have found that to be so true. So let's go, and I also want to touch on the trust muscle that you seem to have built with the universe, you know, and all of these things. So we'll come back to that. But for the person who's not so familiar with the subconscious work, like tell us start from like the basics. You, you mean you alluded to the like when you're a kid, you develop stuff, but like start from the like 101. What do people need to know about their subconscious and the beliefs and how that shows up and what to do?
SPEAKER_02So you can think of our brain just like a massive computer, right? So if you think, you know, I'm sitting here looking at my computer, there's a hard drive in my computer. The hard drive is programmed with a ton of information about how your computer works. If you click on this icon, this app pops up. If you go here, this happens. If you do this, this happens, right? That's exactly how our brains work as well. The thing is, our brains are not programmed by someone consciously going in and putting data into our brains. Our brains are programmed through experiences. It's as we learn, it's as we develop. So between the ages of zero and eight, and actually, I've had things pop up from either when I or when other people were in utero as well, right? So from conception to the age of eight, yeah, our consciousness is being developed. We're learning. And when we learn things, what our brain does is it categorizes it kind of like a filing system, right? It wants things organized. If we were to be 100% conscious of everything going on all day, every day in our brains, our bodies, our nervous systems, our everything's like we would short circuit, we would shut down way too much information. So our brain categorizes all of this information into like filing cabinets, things, folders, whatever, so that we don't have to consciously relearn and re-remember how to brush our teeth every single day. Right. Like there are certain things we can go on autopilot with, which is great. The problem is we're also going on autopilot with the really important stuff. So things like, oh, well, my parents, I saw my parents always struggle with money. So my subconscious programmed in that making money is hard or that making money is a struggle, or money doesn't grow on trees, or you know, I have to have a full-time job in order to make money, or, you know, insert a myriad of things there, right? So that gets programmed into your hard drive. And it it honestly over time, what I've found is that either you you decide to live by that and you decide not to grow and you decide not to evolve and you just do it. Or if you want to grow and evolve, it becomes a virus. So if anyone has ever had a virus in their computer, you don't just ignore it. You don't just try to like positively think past it. You don't try to just like, you know, put up a new screensaver and voila, the virus is gone, right? Like you don't try to affirm that the virus is gone. You go in, you bring it to a specialist, you have the virus removed, and you upgrade your operating system, right? So if we're thinking about our brain in those, in those terms, the idea of affirmations actually don't work. The idea of just thinking positively actually doesn't work. It's like throwing a band-aid on like a shark bite. Like it's just not, it's it's not gonna work. So I think about the brain in terms of being my hard drive. And I think about, you know, the life, the life that I had before the age of eight, like and my little Brianna before the age of eight could not even conceptualize the life that I'm living today. Right. Yet I'm still living by her rules that she wrote back then, 35 years ago.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02So I'm regularly in my subconscious excavating what, you know, what's in here that's no longer serving me. Where am I bumping up against a ceiling within myself that I just can't, no matter how hard I try or how hard I work, like just can't surpass. And so I'll go into my subconscious and be like, okay, what was the rule that was written back then that worked for that little five-year-old Brie? But that little five-year-old Brie lived in a very different environment with a very different life, like not even thinking. Like she knew she wanted to get out of Minnesota, but she wouldn't think ever that she was like, I just became a full-time nomad a few months ago, and I'm like living for free and taking care of other people's homes all around the like western United States, right? Like that wasn't even a thing you could do back in the 80s. I know that's amazing. We're all operating off of these hard drives that are so grossly out of date. Thinking like, oh, well, if I just, if I just try hard enough, if I just work hard enough, if I just think positively enough, if I just do my affirmations in the morning, it's not even touching the same part of your brain. So that's where the subconscious work to me is so important because it's literally rewriting the operating system. It's rewriting, it's reprogramming your hard drive based on your future rather than your past.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that. So a couple of follow-up questions. First of all, I love, and that's why I think it's so powerful because it really this like hypnotherapy and going into the subconscious really kind of gets there and rewrites things. Is there any place for things like affirmations? Like, you know, I always hear consistency, repetition, you know, et cetera. You're saying that it's not going to go deep enough if you have these limiting beliefs that aren't being addressed, but is there any place for that or it's just useless?
SPEAKER_02I like coupling them. So for a lot of the people the for the products I'm I'm rolling out is like it's 30, so it's 30 days because here's the other thing. Your brain learns by repetition. So I'd love for anyone to think about anytime they learned a new language. Did you just open the French dictionary once and you were proficient? Unfortunately, no. Yeah. I mean, I wish, right? Like that would be great. I really, I really want to re-up my Italian. And but the work to get there is like intense, right? Yeah. So with hypnotherapy, what happens a lot is people go see someone for one session and then like one hour, and then maybe they go back a week later or two weeks later, but it doesn't stick. So what we do is for 30 days, we're reinforcing it. Well, what I like to do is yes, you're doing the subconscious work for 30 solid days back to back to back to back to back, but also how is that showing up in your conscious life? So, how can you make one different decision today? How can you practice those beliefs? Maybe you're driving somewhere and you are reciting the affirmations that are within the subconscious reprogramming thing because you do want them to be conscious as well. You do want to actively believe the things that you're putting in your subconscious. So I like to couple the conscious work with the subconscious work, but if you're only doing the conscious work, that's where you're missing the 95%.
SPEAKER_00That makes complete sense. And how do people become aware of what those subconscious beliefs are? Because obviously they're subconscious. So, like, I know for me, it was in doing some of this work that I became aware of a subconscious belief I had that to stay safe, I needed to stay quiet. Now that came from when I was a little kid and I didn't know I had 80 and I would lose the thread of stuff. And so I adopted this belief of, you know, stay quiet to stay safe. And when I tell you that like ruled my world for most of Of my adult life, I am not exaggerating. And obviously I've it's a step through that. And some of your hypnotherapies help me too to be feel safe to be seen, to feel safe to be heard. How do people, how can your average person become more aware of what those beliefs are, what could be limiting them or blocking them?
SPEAKER_02So I actually don't encourage that people start with looking for the beliefs. I encourage them to start looking at their behavior. Okay. So things like, you know, you, Alicia, it's like, I know I need to show up on social media. I just need to post on Instagram. I just need to put myself out there. I just need to take this action. I just need to do this thing. And yet, every day it gets bumped to the bottom of the list. I make excuses all day long about why I can't do that thing. I'm finding myself, you know, when you find yourself managing the experience more than you're doing it, there's a subconscious block there.
SPEAKER_00And that's really interesting. So when you find yourself managing Yeah, managing the behavior more than taking the action.
SPEAKER_02Yes. There's a subconscious block there. Okay. So I just got done doing a bunch of market research and I was asking people, like, you know, do you have instances where you think about something? You're like, oh, I want to do this thing. Oh, I want to, you know, put out a webinar. Oh, I want to take this step. I want to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And then you spend the the people told me that they spend between 50 and 90% of their energy managing. So like thinking about like, oh, I can't do that because, or oh, I just need to color code my calendar and like then I'll show up in my business. Or oh, I just need to, you know, think more positively, or I just need to, and then it becomes this massive shame spiral where they're trying to like force themselves or fit themselves into like doing these things or trying all these new techniques. Oh, I just need to try the Pomodoro technique. Oh, I just need to try time blocking. I just need to try. Maybe there's a reason you're procrastinating.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And maybe having the perfect calendar with the perfect color-coded schedule and the perfect time block, like maybe that's those are good tools, but they're not actually solving the problem, right? Again, it's like if you have a virus in your hard drive, putting up a new screen saver, saver or whatever, like is not going to solve the problem. So the time blocking, the color coding, the Pomodoro, the like all of the time management things, that's like putting up a new screen saver.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02But the virus is still in your system. So I see it a lot too with imposter syndrome. I mean, for anyone that has imposter syndrome, how much time every single day are you managing that imposter within you? It's just the average answer, 50 to 90% when I did these interviews a few months ago. Like, what if you didn't have to expend 50 to 90% on talking yourself off the ledge every single day? And you could actually just heal the impostor at the root, not just slap a band-aid on it, but heal it at the root, then what becomes available for you? When you free up 50 to 90% of your mental and energetic capacity, what can you do with that 50 to 90%?
SPEAKER_00A lot. It's so wild. And I to bring it back to like Thrive Worthy and many of my clients in particular, you know, my clients are often, they're looking to pivot. They are looking for a new way of being, a new way of walking through the world, and in particular, a new way of managing their career or doing something different. But the amount of time and energy that goes into even just getting to the point of doing some coaching or even just getting to the point of looking, there's just so much that comes up and it takes so much time and energy. And I remember because I was that person. I can remember being a JP Morgan and thinking, like, I thought for like two years about what else I wanted to do, but with no answers because I couldn't see past where I was. And I can remember a friend of mine said to me one day, Alicia, you realize that you've been having this exact same dialogue for like two years. And it hit me. I was like, oh my God, she's right. And that's when it kind of like spurred me into motion a bit more. But I love what you're saying and just kind of, and I didn't know about the subconscious stuff then either.
SPEAKER_02And to be honest, I've really only recently started seeing it come up more. And the only reason I so I'm very much like, I'll try anything once. I'm like, yeah, could it will it work? Maybe. Will it help? Maybe, but like I'm willing to take that risk. And so a woman I know started do started, she got certified and she was doing hypnotherapy. And I was like, well, I'll try it. Can't hurt, might help. Like, we'll see. Love that. And I did one the first session with her, right? And then the 30 days of of reinforcement. And I was just mind blown. Like it was a very vivid memory of something that happened when I was like three years old, which mind you, I didn't really have a conscious recollection of. A lot of the people I work with come out of it, and they're like, oh my God, that memory was so like, I don't even remember. It's not always like the most traumatic things that happen that cause the blocks, right? And so it was something that happened very mundane when I was a child that I was literally recreating every single morning as I opened the lid to my laptop. It was the same feeling, it was the same sensation. And I was like, shit, I'm literally living as this three-year-old little girl every single day. And so, like, if if I hadn't gotten, if I hadn't done hypnotherapy with Jess, that's when I realized I was like, oh my gosh, my clients are all showing up to our business strategy calls every single week, being like, Oh, I didn't do that thing this week. And we'd talk about like other strategies to like figure out how to do the thing the coming week. And then they'd come the following week and be like, Oh, I didn't do that thing again this week. And I started realizing I was like, oh, it's because I'm trying to manage their conscious brain. And as their business coach, if I can't touch their subconscious, yeah, I actually can't help them. Yes. And so that's when in 2017 I was like, all right, let's go. I'm getting certified. I'm coupling the conscious with the subconscious because if I don't, I'm gonna keep just like whack-a-moling with my clients forever and not get them the actual success that they're looking for because they're just gonna spend again 50 to 90 percent of their days every single day fighting with themselves.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And and some of it not even being conscious of.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Because it does become a habit. I love how you talk about also like just the accumulation of like little things that happen and little like, oh, well, I can deal with this little discomfort here, and then that little discomfort has another little discomfort added on top of it, and that little, and it just becomes over time this big thing, but it didn't start as that big thing. It started very, very, very small. But then by the time it's the big thing, we're like, what when I was getting towards the end of having my day job, I could look at my work computer across the room and immediately have a panic attack. Yeah. Like that doesn't happen over like overnight. That happened from years and years and years and years and years of conditioning myself. Yes. And for several years, I tolerated it. Right. But at what point then it's like, well, how long am I willing to have to endure a panic attack in order to get my work done and like manage that on top of then having to do my work? It just, I mean, as humans, we we can tolerate a lot, but my question always is like, why?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And that and it's so much energy. And it's like the drippy fauc faucet, you know, like drip, drip, drip, and then all of a sudden you have a flood. And and there was something else you said that sparked for me. It'll come back to me. But oh, I know. And I always find, I found this in my own life, and I find this with my clients. We don't make change until our discomfort is larger than our fear. So, like, you know, we get to the point where we have the panic attack or like whatever, because it is otherwise, it's like drip, drip, drip. You just keep, you just keep like withstanding it until it's just so uncomfortable that you can't anymore. But there's something else you said about the subconscious that I wanted to click into again. And I don't remember what it was. So it will come back to me. But what else, what else should people know about this and this work and how to, you know, what they now that they kind of get an understanding of it, what else can they do? What else should they be thinking about if they want to make meaningful changes in their life and career?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I always think, you know, the first, the first most important step is the awareness because if you don't know, you can't do anything about it. So give yourself permission if you feel like you've been bumping up against some ceilings lately and you just can't seem to get past them. Again, give yourself permission to start looking at the behaviors and say, like, what is actually going on here? And then after the behaviors, that's when I say start listening to your thoughts. So when you think about like, oh, I want to leave this job, I I always listen to, okay, what's the next thought? Because the next thought is gonna tell you what your subconscious actually believes. Because usually it's things like, oh, you can't possibly leave your job. You need health insurance. You need this, you have to have a this, you need to do a that, right? And I always try to then look at like, okay, well, is that true? I've been a full-time entrepreneur for 12 years. I have health insurance. I haven't had, well, I mean, I'm employed by my company. So I mean, technically I have company-sponsored health insurance, but I just happen to also be the one that owns the company that buys the health insurance for me then as the employee, right? But like people have all these beliefs around, like, oh, well, how will I ever have health insurance? Uh, you know, if I go out on my own, or, you know, what if I don't get as good of a package? I have a girlfriend right now who's in a job search. She's leaving a very, very, very, I can't say the name, but a very, very, very well known. If I said the name right now, everyone would know exactly what the company is and moving over to a different company. And she's had a lot of like, you know, will I get the same compensation package? Will I have the same perks and benefits? Will I, you know, it's like all of those things, right? That then pop up. And it's like, well, okay, but what is stopping you from believing that if you created this, that you then can't create something that's better?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, I've always lived by this like this or something better mantra. Right. So either I'm gonna stay exactly where I am, or it's gonna get greater. But I personally refuse to be like, oh, if I leave here, it's gonna get worse. I have more experience, I have more knowledge, I have more like it's getting better from here. So, what is the belief that's keeping me trapped in this? Like, if I leave where I'm at right now, I'm screwed. You know, like that's just a punching because you've done a lot of this work.
SPEAKER_00So there are, as you know, a lot of people who are in that negative spiral, that negative thought loop. And so, and we know that like the ego, the logical mind goes it to fear and it's trying to protect us. But that doesn't allow us to live our best lives or develop ourselves to our full potential. So what are and yeah, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02The other thing I'd add to that too is that we we have to also remember, and this is a really good thing to know about the subconscious mind, your subconscious is based on things that have happened in the past. So I always say your subconscious is like a library. If you walk into the library right now and say, I want this book, and they're like, Well, we don't have it, you can't read that book. Right. Right? So if it's not already in your subconscious, your brain is gonna be like, you can't do that, it doesn't exist, it's not possible.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Well, is it not possible? Or does your subconscious not yet have the data to show that it's possible? So for most of us, like the business I'm building, I've never built a business like this before. So my subconscious is like, that's not possible. You can't do that. Well, it's not that I it's not that it's not possible, and it's not that I can't do it, it's that it doesn't yet exist in my library. Yeah. So your brain is like a library, your brain is not psychic. So you can't your brain cannot predict things that do not yet exist. It bases everything off of data that you already have from the past. So, of course, when you think about going out and doing something new and big and scary, your brain is like, that's not possible. You can't do that. Sudden death, you know, error, you're gonna die. You know, you're being attacked right now, like, bah. Yeah. So one of the things that I do is I'm always like, okay, is this true? There are plenty of people who have built businesses in similar business models to what I'm building. So is it true that I can't do it? And what makes me think that I'm so special that I'm not gonna be able to do things that other people have done in the past? Right.
SPEAKER_00And so I by the way, let's just I love how you said that because most people say, what makes me think I'm gonna be any different and be successful? What makes me think I'm gonna be able to do this? And you just said that the exact opposite way, which is like, there are people who have successfully done this. What makes me think I'm so different or special that I can't? I love that. That's beautiful. And before you go into that, because what you're talking about too is what I would call expanders, like examples of people who have walked the path you want to walk, either full or in part. And and I get that from uh a brand called To Be Magnetic. But the other interesting thing, and you've kind of touched on this, but just to put a finer point on it, is that a lot of these subconscious beliefs, since they were formed when we were kids, we just didn't have all the perspective. So, like your three-year-old person, you know, your through your little three-year-old mind or your experience then, you didn't have all the perspective that like an adult might have or that you would have now if you experienced the same thing. So, is there anything else you'd want people to know about that? Because it's interesting how these beliefs are so deep and they hold us back, but they're also so limited and outdated in perspective.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I think it's also really important, and I talk about this all the time, is that like, you know, so I was born in the 80s, very, very, very different world. And the the rules that we were taught in the 80s were based on the world as it existed back then. Yeah. The internet didn't exist, or at least not as readily as we all have access to it right now. That like, so, you know, to think that, you know, my my grandmother was of like a prolific seamstress and like did crafts and like all these things, right? Like my grandmother could have had an online business, but she didn't have the internet.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02My mom had an amazing chocolate shop when I was growing up, but we only served the town in which the chocolate shop existed. There was no internet. Whereas now, um, one of my actually former clients here in LA opened up a craft chocolate shop and she's shipping chocolate all over the country. She has a website, they have you know 15,000 followers on Instagram. She her customer database is huge and prolific, whereas my mom's customer base for our chocolate shop was based on whoever knew about us in the town of 12,000 people that we lived in andor whoever happened to walk by the store. So I think it's also really important to differentiate like, okay, so my three-year-old self was living in a world without online business, without the internet, without the ability to post an Instagram and have a million people see it. Like those options were not available back then. So bless the hearts of the generations that came before us. They taught us what they knew. Yes. But the world that we live in today is not the same world. So, you know, for you know, my stepdad used to come to me and be like, you could get an easy $75,000 a year job and like blah, blah, blah, blah, like all this stuff. And I would look at him and be like, Do you realize that I could be doing $75,000 a month in my business? Right. But like, again, they don't have the generations before us didn't have the perspectives that we have today. Right. So to look at and think that like we have to play by these rules of an of the eras in which we were raised is just categorically untrue. We don't live in the same world anymore.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And it's interesting too, because I think we're gonna see, and we're already seeing, so many people start their own things and lean into entrepreneurship. Whereas, you know, when I was growing up, it was very much you should be in corporate. You know, being in corporate meant safety. It doesn't mean that the same way anymore. The social contracts changed.
SPEAKER_02I was just having a conversation this weekend about this, about how companies are not, oh my God, I'm losing my word. What is it when companies are not loyal to their employees like they used to be? They used to be incredibly loyal. They used to go out of their way to make their employees happy and they don't do that anymore. So even looking at that, like the corporate world is not the same as it used to be. No, it's so to think that you're gonna be with the same company for 40 years is like that's not again, different worlds. The world has changed. We can't base our actions and our lives and our beliefs on that system because the system has crumbled.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And it's very interesting. And I think that's a shift and a realization that people are going through. I've definitely had to do a lot of work on that belief because I firmly had a belief that to be safe, I needed to be in corporate. And it's changing. And and people also went back to the when your discomfort's larger than your fear, people's discomfort where certain things is getting larger. And then people are realizing to your points around the generations that came before you and their experience versus your experience now. There's just so many different options and ways that you can earn a stable living. Can you go back to the trust piece? Oh, yeah. And I would love for you to come at it from you know, we at Thriver that we do talk about energetics, we talk about the science of manifestation, talk about the universe, all these things. So you mentioned multiple times getting messages from the universe and trusting that, learning to listen to it, lean into it. But one other thing that I just want to put a finer point on is that with this subconscious work, and you kind of said it earlier, when you start changing the inside and your thoughts and like the operating system you're working with, then that changes how you show up externally. So then your external reality responds to that and shifts, right? So if you can kind of talk more about just this dynamic of energy and trust and whatnot.
SPEAKER_02So the first thing I will say is that so when I got that message in 2015, I had been doing, I had been really diving into my spirituality at that point for eight years. Okay. So it wasn't like I just woke up one day and was like, let me just trust the universe. That's not, that's not how it happened. So if you were at the early stage of stages of this, I always recommend like if you're going weightlifting, you don't go lift the 200-pound dumbbell on your first shot. You're gonna blow your back out. Right. Go lift the five-pound weight, like start at five pounds. So if you are not adept at this, don't like don't try to just throw yourself into it because you're you're subconscious and your body is gonna be like, ah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's gonna wig out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I always like to say, start with small stuff and and start asking for little things. There was a day when I lived here in LA that I was like, I just need a sign today. Like, I just, I am not okay. And I just need to know that I'm not alone in this. And so I asked the universe, I said, I need a butter, I need to see a butterfly today. I need to see a monarch butterfly today. And so I go on my morning walk where I usually would see monarchs and swans and turtles and like hummingbirds and like all of these amazing things. And I didn't see anything that more. I was like, what the? Like, really nothing. Universe, you hate me. I'm not supported. I have to like immediately for that. Yeah, all the things. So I was so crabby. I was like, I'm taking myself out for lunch because I deserve an acai bowl. And I walk to get my acai bowl. I end up going to a grocery store. So I'm taking a different route home and I'm getting ready to cross the street, and I'm like, I have. My headphones in, Pharrell's happy starts playing. And I look up and there's an electrical box on the corner that is painted just covered in monarchs. And so I say that to say that when we start these journeys of faith, we our brain will start to like be like, oh, I know how that's I'm gonna ask for a sign, but I know where it's coming from. I know how it's gonna show up. And I it's so important when we start with this, these practices to be open because I would have never thought, oh, I'm gonna see an electrical box that someone has painted monarchs all over today, right?
SPEAKER_01Because yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I always say, you know, start with asking about things that don't matter. Because if you're asking about the big things, there's also a lot of emotions that will get in the way of it. There's expectations, there's subconscious beliefs, there's all sorts of things. So if you're gonna start with, you know, practicing faith and asking the universe to show up for you, start with things that don't matter. If you're gonna start with practicing with your intuition, you know, start with taking a new route home from work today. Or, you know, intuitively picking which avocado in the pile at the grocery store is gonna be the right one to pick, right? So I always say start with those things. The second part of your question, I'm forgetting. Can you remind me of the second part of your question?
SPEAKER_00Just about how energy moves and responds. So the like once you start doing the inner work, like you're showing up differently. You might you might be either walking through your day differently, you might be setting a boundary more than you did, whatever it is. And so then energy starts to move and responds to you. So Yep.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So definitely like when you shift your subconscious, you do, you do start showing up differently. And like I said, like say you're you're shifting your imposter, your inner imposter, and you've shifted it, and now the imposter doesn't pop up and say things like, Well, who are you to think that way? Your inner imposter say then walks into a room and is like, I deserve this. I deserve to be in this room. You're gonna say different words, you're gonna have different conversations, you're gonna make different asks. So instead of going in and being like, Oh, is like, is this okay? You're gonna go in and say, This is what I need. And literally those two things, regardless of whether you believe in energy or you believe in the universe or whatever, people are gonna respond differently to those two things. When someone comes to me and they're like, Oh, is this okay? And they're like asking for permission, I then have the ability to be like, actually, that's not okay. Versus if someone comes to me and they're like, hey, this is what I need. I'm like, that's what you need to succeed. Amazing. How can I help? Right. So you showing up differently in the world is going to create a ripple effect. You know, I will say made a very big, hard, difficult decision in my life about two and a half months ago. And what's crazy is even without me saying anything, people that I've known have come out of the woodworks and been like, girl, what are you doing? Because you just radiate differently to like now. Like, what are you? I just saw a friend yesterday that I haven't seen. We were trying to do the math. I mean, it's been eight to 10 years that I've seen this person. And he was like, How is it that you look younger and more radiant and more beautiful today? At 10 years older than you did 10 years ago. Like, he's like, What? What are you doing? And I'm like, I've been making some really hard decisions and I have been having to elevate myself and I have been having to re find my spark within myself again, re-ap into my power. And in doing that, it is amazing the things that have played out and shifted. I mean, the fact that I will go through all of 2026 not paying a dime in rent. Like I am living for free, right? Like people coming out of the woodworks to say, like, hey, you can come stay with me. Hey, how can I help you? Hey, do you need anything? Hey, lunch is on me today. Hey, just like the generosity of the universe through all these people smiling back at me because I've chosen to do the inner empowerment work to like be the woman that I see in my future and the ripple effects of, and it's only been two months. I'm like, oh my God, imagine where I'm gonna be in December. Like, this is so cool.
SPEAKER_00It really is exciting. And I mean, I see all your posts and obviously know a bit about your story. And I it's just so beautiful. And it it's also an amazing example of just like everything is energy. It's all you radiate it from within. You know, like we get so focused on different external things. But this when you align your energy and when you are truly aligned and authentic, it just radiates from within and people notice it, you know.
SPEAKER_02And then, like I said, I'm also showing up differently because I'm more settled within myself. And someone said that to me. They're like, they're like, you are just, they're like, you're just more solid within, like of like you're more like the more essence of you is coming out now. Yeah. Than like I saw you before, and they're like, you were always confident. And so it's not confidence, but it's just like it's the confidence you've always had plus this like deeper embodiment of it. And they're like, it's so cool to experience.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. I love that. I love that word embodiment because I think that's what we are all, you know, going for. I mean, if you're if you're aware of it, and uh it's just beautiful, it's beautiful. Okay, so what else would you advise our listeners in terms of how to make changes in their life? And I'm pausing because I think there's so many different pieces to it. So obviously the subconscious stuff. But I think I talk a lot with my clients about the role of identity. We also talk about things like you know, their habits, but uh also the the environment they're in, like kind of things that are reinforcing or not reinforcing in the way you want. So what are what are some other things people should be thinking about as they think about this work?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I think one of the biggest things is that when you make a decision about something in that moment of making that decision, things start shifting for you. But if you stay on the fence and you're waffling between like, will I, won't I, will I, won't I? I mean, this is really common, right? In in career change. Yeah. Will I stay? Will I go? Will I get a new job? Will I like what will I, won't I, will I, won't I? You can't really do anything from that point. It's like I call it being, you know, stuck on the fence of indecision, right? Yeah. It's like you're you're wobbling back and forth over this fence, but you're not actually actually picking a side. And until you pick a side, you can't move forward on any path. So being in that place of indecision, just like hanging out, waffling, first of all, you can't do anything differently. Yeah. And second of all, the universe can't show up and help you create that path. And so making a like being decisive. And you say this all the time. It's like you can make a decision and not have to blow up your life immediately. But simply making a decision and saying, I am going to decide to take my career into my own hands. You're literally just swinging that leg over the fence, and now you're on that side of the fence, and now you can just take one single step and another single step and another single step. You don't have to go like flying off into the ethers of like that decision, but making the decision is so important because if you're not making the decision, you're literally keeping yourself in purgatory. Right. And so I love that. The other thing I will say too, I did have someone say to me a few, a few weeks ago, they're like, you're always willing to do the courageous thing, even if it's the hard thing. And they're like, that's one of the coolest things about what witnessing your journey is like, you know, like you know yourself so well that you know you're gonna be good no matter what decision you make. And you're willing to choose the hard decision if it's the right decision. And so one of the things I always play with is like, which path is gonna lead me towards good, and which path is gonna lead me towards great. It's the path that our brain tells us we shouldn't take. It's the path that is the one that's keeping us on the fence in the first place because our our brain is like, girl, don't go down that road. It's scary. We don't have the like, what what if this happens? What if that happens? What if this what if it's great though? And so, like, you know, people don't understand it. A lot of people really close to me look at me and they're like, What are you doing? But I know in my heart that I'm like, I can't I can't keep choosing good because I'm here to experience a great life. And if I'm here to experience a great life, I have to make the decision that is gonna bring me there. Because if I keep just like riding the the waves of the goodness, I mean, could I survive it? Maybe. Could I could I be fine on the other side? Maybe. But the person is fine, the goal. Yeah. Yeah. That's not what I'm here for. Yeah. So oftentimes you're gonna have to make really hard decisions and really courageous decisions. And I love what you said earlier about coupling the identity of that. Like, what is the identity of your future self? And how can you borrow from that version of you to make the courageous decision today? Trusting, again, going back to the faith that we talked about, yeah. That you are going to be supported, that you are going to figure it out, that you are going to call in the resources you need, that you are going to show up with even more courage to keep taking steps forward. Like you've proven to yourself that you can get here. So, what makes you think you can't get there?
SPEAKER_00It's so true. And, you know, when you talk about that uh defensive indecision, I think you called it. A lot of my clients, and I'm sure you can appreciate this given the women who I know you've worked with, they are high achieving, super successful. They're carrying all the things. Some of them are moms, some of them aren't. There's a lot of responsibility, and there's a lot of conditioning, you know, that we all have around people pleasing, perfectionism, and performing. And so how, you know, what advice do you have for the person who is on that fence of indecision, hasn't yet found that courage, you know, to like make the choice, make the move, and and know that she's gonna land. It's gonna be okay. Cause I think that it's that perfectionism, people pleasing, and that sense of responsibility sometimes that holds people back from even taking the step to explore what's next. Like sometimes the step too is just deciding you're worthy of more. Like it's not like you have to go even apply for a new job tomorrow. It's just deciding that you are worthy and deserving of more and that can be available to you. So what do you say to that woman?
SPEAKER_02I mean, all literally everything you just said again goes back to like just just as you use the word conditioning. Yeah. Those are things, you know, like what did our parents tell us growing up? What did society tell us growing up? What did those of us of a certain age, right? Like we're very much told. I I grew up in the Midwest. So it was like you go to college, you meet your husband, you get married, you get a job, you have two and a half kids with you buy, you know, you have a house, you have like da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. Yeah. And then you just wash, rinse, repeat for the rest of your life. Yeah. Like I've that's the conditioning that most of us are raised with. Still the idea of this like nuclear family thing from 70 years ago. Yeah. It's not the 50s anymore. We don't live in that world. Yeah. And the idea that we can't all have individual life paths is just insane. And so it's like, again, going back into is this true for me? Is it true that I have to bear the responsibility of all the things in the household? I went a year ago, a year and a half ago now. I went to my partner and I was like, listen, if it has to do with emotional labor in our relationship, I'm going on strike. So either you're going to do the emotional labor in our relationship, or it's not gonna happen. But women are conditioned, especially to be the ones to do all the emotional labor. We're the ones who are doing all the silent labor in the households, right? Why? Because we were taught to why? Who said? I've I've always been one. My grandmother hated me. I used to walk wander around her house with my middle finger up and she'd be like, that's a bad finger. And I'd be like, why? Why? Who said so? Why and why, why? Why? Like that question alone is like, okay, do I have to bear the brunt of all the emotional labor in the household? Well, why? Why do I have to do it? Why can't my partner do it? Why can't my kids take more responsibility as they're growing older? You know, why can't I hire a housekeeper? Why can't I outsource my laundry? Why can't I get a meal delivery service? Why can't I, you know, like there are so many options nowadays. But again, this idea that we have to live by these rules that were conditioned inside of us is just ridiculous. And so I would encourage anyone who's stuck in those loops to just start being like, well, but why?
SPEAKER_00Why do I have to do that? And I would add to it just lean into the why and really question these different things that are coming up for you. But also know that you're inherently worthy. You don't have to do all these things to be valued. You don't have to do all these things to be loved. And I think that's some of the conditioning that many of us got as kids. And if we think about how beautiful life is, if we can just let go of that a little bit more or a lot more. Because then we can be living in a more aligned and authentic way and not feeling like we have to be meeting all these different expectations that we were not setting to begin with. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I mean, even me living, you know, I'm I'm literally house-sitting my way through 2026. And people think it's insane. I think it's amazing. You need to put roots down, and why don't what you need to get a place of your own and you need to furnish it, and you need to have this and you need to have that. Like, why? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that you're doing this. You are the first person I've known to do this. I know other people have like gone and traveled the world and whatnot, but this particular flavor of it is unique. And I what I love, and just for people who are less familiar, you're you're going to all these beautiful places, living in different beautiful homes. And like, especially for this period of reinvention in your life, what a wonderful way to get in touch with what is most aligned and authentic for you. And it's just, it's incredible. I mean, I I have a daughter, so like it's not really conducive unless I start homeschooling. But you know, I if I were single, like no kids, I would just be like, this is amazing. I would totally do this.
SPEAKER_02So I would I do I have known other people that have done it. And I do know one woman right now who's recently uh empty nester, and so like she's doing it right now as well. But yeah, honestly, part of the reason I started doing this was because I needed to change my neuropathways in my brain. And I was like, if I stay in the same home every day doing the same things, walking the same path to my, you know, back shed in my backyard that is my office, and I'm just going between the house and the shed and the house and the shed and the house and the shed every single day, yeah. Like I am literally killing my brain. Yeah. And I need to see the world through a different perspective. Yeah. And so last year I was doing it part-time. I was doing about one month every quarter. And the new thoughts that started popping up in my head were insane. And the way that, like, I, you know, it's like I have to find the cutting board in a kitchen that's not mine, or I have to, you know, like figure out or manage all these different things or like readjust my schedule to fit with the pets, or like it's really forcing my brain to like flex in new ways, which has opened up all these possibilities for the business that I'm building, for who I am in the world, for I mean, it's just been so cool. I mean, it's it's like a physical representation of the sub kind kind of subconscious work that I do as well. And it's just been so neat. But there are, I mean, even my parents think I'm nuts. My mom's like, you know, oh, with the price of gas, and like, what are you doing? Driving all over. And I'm like, right, but I'm, you know, I just filled up my tank for the first time in two weeks. Like, granted, I'm in LA for six weeks, right? So I'm not like switching cities. Yeah. But like, I'm like, I actually have way fewer expenses now than if I were to have like a two to three thousand dollar a month rent, plus furnishing it, plus utilities, plus, you know, like all the other things. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I just but it's like, you know, isn't it funny? Because our parents are always our parents and you're a grown woman, and I'm sure you figured all the things out. Like, you know, but that's just those old habits die hard.
SPEAKER_02And also I've lived all over the world too. And it's like, well, I like I've proven to myself at this point that my courage leads me on the right path. And if my courage was leading me down this path, then clearly I have something to learn from it. I have things to experience from it. And it's already been a transformative two and a half months, and it's only the middle of June. So I still have, you know, I think what, six and a half more months left before the end of the year, and then we'll see. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_00I absolutely love it. So we have covered a lot. First, let's talk about how if people want to work with you or see your stuff, like how do they get in touch with you? And we'll put it in the show notes. Yep.
SPEAKER_02My website, which is my name, BrieSealy.com. There's three E's in my last name, B-R-I-S-E-E-L-E-Y. Um, my website has my private offering on it, which Alicia can attest to. It's awesome. It's a really, really, really deep dive custom hypnosis. I work with you to write a specific script. And then we consciously coach through the process of you doing the 30 days as well. I am releasing three new hypnoses, which will be just super easy, low cost, you can access on your own. You don't need me. You can add a call with me if you want. But those are coming out in July. Um, and they are not today imposter, uh, safe to be seen, and claim your wealthy woman era. So if you have money, visibility, or imposter things and you're like, I really want to try out this subconscious thing, they're super easy. They're 349 bucks for 30 days and they work. Uh, so you'll find those on my website as well. And if you want to connect with me, uh, Instagram is probably the best place to do it. And it's also my name, Brie Seeley. Amazing.
SPEAKER_00Amazing. So we'll include that in the show notes. I can attest, I've done the safe to be seen 30-day hypnosis, and it absolutely has helped me be stepping through my fear of being seen and showing up on social media more and whatnot. And and then obviously Brie mentioned I'm doing the individual hypnosis, like the tailored one. And it's just an amazing way to work through those subconscious blocks and beliefs, like, and and become aware of ones that you're not even you weren't even thinking about or didn't think were getting in your way. But for me, it was showing up as a lot of procrastination and indecision. And so it's totally helping. And uh, we will put all that in the show notes. And Bri, thank you so much. This has been, first of all, very fun. And second of all, super enlightening. Is there anything else you would leave our audience with?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I would just really encourage people to turn up that awareness muscle. Like that, like I said, that's the first step. Start looking at where are you procrastinating about things? Where are you facing resistance about things? And how much energy are you putting towards managing that resistance? Because there's another way. And there's a way to go in and dig up the roots and truly remove the virus from your operating system. And it's pretty easy. Honestly, you can sleep through the daily hypnosis. Like you can literally sleep your way into success, which is lovely. Like, why not sleep through the subconscious reprogramming? Turn up the awareness muscle, start looking at where you're managing your resistance, your blocks, things like that. And then let's do something about it because you don't, you don't have to live that way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that. All right, Brie, thank you so much for being with us. Really appreciate it. And lots of love to you and best of luck as you continue your wonderful journey. Thank you. All right, cheers.
SPEAKER_01Bye.

Link to my Calendly where you can book a free career clarity call is there. I would love to connect with you. I also want to give you a heads up that the Pathfinder experience, which is my group coaching program, is going to be available in an on-demand format. I am very excited for this. I've wanted to do this for a while because I know that the content is so valuable and sometimes life gets in the way, and meeting at a particular date and time with a group program can be a little tricky with everyone's schedule. So I'm really excited. If you're interested in the Pathfinder experience on demand, then please express your interest. There's a link in the show notes. I want to make sure that I get this out there to people who are really interested in the beginning. There'll be discounted founders pricing. And I'll also be looking for your feedback to incorporate and just make this the best program I possibly can. So I'm super excited. Again, thank you for listening. And please share all of this with whomever you think might benefit. And just remember you don't need to earn your worth, you don't need to perform. You are worthy of thriving. Be well. Cheers.
