“Gone Ahead” is a message for every heart that still aches when the room gets quiet. In this episode, we talk about the truth that our loved ones are not lost, not distant, not erased — they’ve simply gone ahead of us. Their story continues in the presence of God, and the love they carried into our lives still shapes who we are today.

We walk through the tension of grief and hope, the moments when memories hit hard, and the quiet reassurance that heaven is not a separation but a reunion already prepared. This episode is for anyone missing a spouse, a parent, a child, a friend — anyone whose absence still echoes. You’ll hear reminders of God’s promises, the nearness of His comfort, and the certainty that the same Jesus who walked us through the valley will walk us into the reunion we long for.

Love doesn’t end. Hope doesn’t end. And the ones who’ve gone ahead are held, whole, and waiting.

Today's episode is a little bit different. It's personal, it's honest, and it's a dedication to my wife Kathy. May 1st would have been our 44th wedding anniversary. And as that day just passed, I've been thinking about the kind of love that doesn't end when someone steps into eternity. The kind of love that doesn't fade with time or distance. The kind of love that becomes part of your bones, part of your breath, part of the way that you walk through the world. This is not an episode about grief. This is an episode about reunion, about hope, about the truth that death isn't the end of the story. Not for her, not for me, not for anyone who has placed their trust in the one who holds eternity. And I want to say this clearly. It came from God, from the one who walks with us through every chapter. So today, this episode, I want to honor Kathy by sharing a message that she lived, that love is stronger than death, that faith is stronger than fear, and that the people we've loved aren't gone. They've simply gone ahead. I want to thank you for joining me here on Faith Between the Lines, and I'm Scott. Kathy and I got together when we were teenagers and got married in our early twenties. When I look back at our nearly fifty years together, I don't think about the big events first. I think about the small moments, the ones that stay with you long after the world has moved on. I think about the way that she laughed when life surprised her. The way she could turn an ordinary day into something worth remembering. The way she steadied me when I was unsure, not by telling me what to do, but by standing beside me until I found my footing again. She believed in me long before I believed in myself. She saw things in me I didn't see yet, and she had this way of reminding me, without saying a word, that I wasn't walking alone. Love like that doesn't vanish. It doesn't get buried. It becomes part of who you are. It shapes the way you see the world. It teaches you how to show up for people, how to listen and how to care and how to stay. And that's why I believe reunion isn't just a hope. It's a promise. Because love that deep doesn't end. It continues. It carries forward. It becomes the thread God uses to weave the next chapter of your life. There were seasons where I didn't have the strength to stand on my own. And if I'm being honest, I still don't. The strength that carried me through those years and the strength that carries me now didn't come from me. It came from God, from the one who holds eternity in his hands. There were days when I didn't know how to move forward. Days when the weight felt too heavy, days when I didn't have the words to answer or the courage. But somehow I kept going. Not because I was strong, but because God was. And that's why I know this. Kathy isn't gone. She's just gone home. She's held, she's alive in a way that my eyes can't see yet. She didn't disappear. She stepped into a place we're all heading. She's just gone first. And the same God who carried her carries me. As many of you out there, and me and Kathy also, we walked through storms. We faced things that we didn't expect. We went through valleys that tested everything that we believed. There were nights when questions were louder than the answers, nights when the future felt uncertain. Nights when all we could do was to hold on to each other and trust that God was still in the room. But even in the hardest moments, there was light. Not because the situation was easy, because it wasn't. It's because God was present. And here's the truth I've learned. Death isn't the end of the story. It's the doorway. It's the moment when faith becomes sight. It's the moment when the temporary gives away to eternal. The valley didn't have the final word, the light did. And the one who walks with us in life walks with her now. I learned something after Kathy passed away that I probably had a misconception of most of my entire life. That a legacy isn't what someone leaves behind. It's what they leave within. Kathy left kindness in me. She left patience. She left a way of seeing people, really seeing them. She left a gentleness I did not have before. She left a faith that grew roots in the middle of the storm. She taught me how to love without conditions, how to forgive quickly, and how to stay steady when life shakes you, how to trust God when the path isn't clear. And every time I speak into this microphone, every time I try to encourage someone, every time I choose honesty over hiding, I'm carrying her forward. Her story didn't end. It continues in a way I live the way I love, the way I show up for others. She didn't just shape my past, she shapes my present, and she shapes the man I'm still becoming. As a reflection of this episode and a dedication to Kathy, I wrote a poem for it called Gone Ahead. She isn't gone, she's gone ahead, to where my eyes can't reach just yet, a place where tears turn into rest, where souls find peace and all are blessed. She walks where morning never fades, beyond the pool of nights and shades. She stepped into a brighter day, just one soft heartbeat far away. And though my hands must let her go, faith is the one truth we all know. It's woven through the lives we've led, the bridge between the living and the dead. For every heart will cross that line in its own quiet, sacred time, and love through ache when it parts still holds the map between our hearts. So I'll keep walking where I stand until I reach that promised land. She isn't gone, she's gone ahead, and waits where all our paths are led. That was a difficult poem to get through, but there is a message in it. And I would like to leave a message with you. Reunion is real. The people we've loved, the ones who shaped us, strengthened us and walk with us. They're not lost, they're not gone, they're not unreachable. They're ahead of us, just beyond the veil of this world, waiting in a place where time doesn't ache and love doesn't fade. One day when my work is done, I will see her again. Not as a memory, not as a shadow, but as a woman I love for nearly fifty years. That's not wishful thinking. That's faith. That's promise. That's the truth. My closing blessing for the show is I want to thank you for listening to me tonight. If you've ever loved deeply, you know this truth. Love doesn't end. It changes shape, but it does not end. And the reunion isn't wishful thinking. It's a promise. I want to thank you for joining me here on Faith Between the Lines, and I hope I met you right where you are. Where your questions or comments are always welcome. They can be left on YouTube or on BuzzSprout. Before I close, I want to take a moment to honor the families, the men and the women of our military, those who serve, those who have served, and those who stand behind them with quiet strength. Your sacrifice, your courage, and your commitment to this great country do not go unnoticed. May God bless you, protect you, and surround you and your families with peace and gratitude from all of us. And always remember this you are never walking alone. We'll see you here next time.
