Ep 10: Yetis and the Curse of Three

Bad luck, it seems, really does come in threes. The Planar Vanguard continue their search of the dwarven mine, however they are hesitant as magic is no longer their reliable ally. Quickly, the party finds themselves facing the creatures who have made the mines their lair, as well as the ever-present threat of more Ink within.

Okay, so the last time we all met together, we had a dungeon crawl, an epic dungeon crawl, that ended up being a lot more deceptive than we thought it was. Right now, the Planar Vanguard is in the depths of the Dwarven mine, trying to make their way towards what they believe to be an issue with the white dragon that was providing aid to the city above, the dwarven city above. Upon entering the dungeon, there was a sense of heaviness and a magical suppression field exists down there, making it extremely difficult for our party to cast spells. So we crawled, we did some puzzles, we found that there was a puzzle that was on the dead body of an adventurer that had fallen in these mines. So now the party equipped with the puzzle, equipped with the knowledge of a direction to go and a gold in mind, it is time for the warriors of the group to shine and for the spellcasters of the group to really roll high. And with that, as our players have entered into a large cavern that has three giant yetis that they can see, we are going to start this episode with a battle.
SPEAKER_14Have you rolled initiative?
SPEAKER_10No, we're about to roll initiative. So, uh, you guys can all see where you are situated here in the front entrance. If your player is not there, then put their put your player on there for me, please.
SPEAKER_14I think I was sort of 10 feet back from Drax. And then I got Miriam.
SPEAKER_10I was smelling. Yeah, you did have Miram. I think.
SPEAKER_16I had gone my distance up the wall, so I was trying to look for my measures, but I'm about 40 feet up the wall. You're right. You said 30. I didn't really I forgot I moved 40 feet.
SPEAKER_10So okay. But you said 30.
SPEAKER_16I'm fine with 30. Okay. That sounds right. It gives me even more move to work with.
SPEAKER_03So is the yeti or the yetis where they're supposed to be?
SPEAKER_10The yetis are where they're supposed to be. So they had moved to the back of the cavern after you had loosed an arrow towards them. Oh, okay. Yeah, he did, and then he that's the guy that's moved backwards.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I can shoot him in the bum.
SPEAKER_10You could shoot him in the bum if you wanted. Okay. So going forward from here, I will need each of you to please roll me a initiative.

SPEAKER_03You wanna go first or not?
SPEAKER_16It's all you you have the initiative to do. Well, I know it's cool. Yeah. I would technically go after both of you because I'm pretty sure you're both quicker than me technically.
SPEAKER_14Um I'm going to activate a blade song. Are we are we starting?
SPEAKER_10We are about to start.

SPEAKER_10Taken. You watch as. You watch as this firebolt streaks out of your hand. And it strikes the Yeti straight in the back of the shoulder. It lurches forward and you watch as the fire burns the fur away. And the Yeti has disadvantage on this next attack.
SPEAKER_14Yes! And it smells like burning dog hair.
SPEAKER_10Would you like to move anywhere else or are you staying where you're at?
SPEAKER_14I'm going to step five feet back.
SPEAKER_10Step five feet back, okay.
SPEAKER_14I'm nervous about being trapped in the room before the other uh martial types get in.
SPEAKER_10I concur. Wise.
SPEAKER_14That is my turn.
SPEAKER_10Einar, you are 30 feet up on the wall, right above the entrance of the cavern.
SPEAKER_16Okay. One, two, three, four, five, uh, six, and then two more. Do you get my forty, so scurrying along? Okay. He's gonna increase his height to about forty feet off the ground there. Okay. And I will continue around. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. So over here above the yeti.
SPEAKER_10Okay. You are above that yeti.
SPEAKER_16I will continue to scurry up the wall. How tall is that? Are they compared to I just need to?
SPEAKER_10They are. That's a good question. Let's very important double check. They're there are huge monstrosities, so I'm gonna put them at 15 feet high.
SPEAKER_16Fifteen feet high?
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Just be aware, did you use your bonus action to double your movement?
SPEAKER_16No, I used my action.

SPEAKER_03Shine! The highest roll was a five out of those, so I did not shine at all.
SPEAKER_10Alright, go for it.
SPEAKER_03Do what you're told. I did not. So that's five plus seven is twelve damage. I don't even want to bother adding a D8. 12 damage taken. I'll add a D8, why not?

SPEAKER_10Okay. Next up will be the abominable yetis. Alright, we were gonna start with the one that you guys are whaling on. Why not? Why not, hey? Okay, so I have a couple options here. I'm just going to. Yeah, okay, let's do that. That's a nice one. So he turns around. Errrr.

SPEAKER_10Nice. Okay. Oh no. Why would we be so mean? The Eddy can do what's called chilling gaze. So any creature within 30 feet of him, when he stares at you, he can try and chill you. I close my eyes. You could do that if it was your turn. You could do that if it was your turn, but it is not your turn. Let's go with that chilling gaze. Is first gonna happen to Rold. Rold, roll me, please, a DC 18 constitution saving throw.
SPEAKER_05Is it one specific character or one character?
SPEAKER_10One character. I have another one, but the other one is a cone. This one is just a single character.
SPEAKER_03I got an 11.
SPEAKER_10You got an 11, okay. So you are going to take the full brunt of this. So 14 and then 19, 24, 30, 30 points of cold damage. And you are paralyzed until the start of this Yeti's next turn, unless you have immunity to cold. Paralyzed? Paralyzed.
SPEAKER_14Is there any action any of us could take to unparalyze him?
SPEAKER_10The paralyzed condition is incapacitated, it can't speak or move. The creature automatically fails strength and dexterity seven throws. Any attack that like hits the creature is a critical attack if the attacker was in five feet.
SPEAKER_14Um I don't uh I was I didn't know if it was like a physical there from like literally an ice and we could use our action to break the ice or something.
SPEAKER_10I'm down with that. If you want to use your action, you could break rolled out of the ice, it would be a roll.
SPEAKER_15Is was that a roll to hit or is that a spell? Save and crow.
SPEAKER_10That is not a spell. It's an ability. That is an ability.
SPEAKER_15But like a attack roll though?
SPEAKER_10Nope.
SPEAKER_15Okay.
SPEAKER_10Because now is his attack roll. Okay. Which would be at a disadvantage. Yes. He gets uh, so yeah, each Yeti gets the ability to do that chilling gaze uh once as well as two attack rolls, but if they want to throw ice, they're not able to do the chilling gaze. So if they want to do a ranged attack, right? Yeah, all right. So this is at disadvantage, and uh yeah, they're going against you, Drax.
SPEAKER_15So that'll be at straight roll because I I went reckless attack.
SPEAKER_10Oh, I'll just roll again then. Uh I don't believe that's gonna hit you. Uh 17 to hit. Uh this is actually okay, and he gets one more claw. That will be a 19 to hit.
SPEAKER_15That hits.
SPEAKER_10That is, okay. So this is gonna be 12 points of slashing damage plus 15 points of cold damage. So altogether, 28 points, uh 27 points of damage. Yep, okay. That is the end of that Yeti's turn, and it is going to move to the entrance of the tunnel, if you don't mind.
SPEAKER_08How? In what manner?
SPEAKER_10Uh right up to the front there. Can't have a reaction. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just put him right in front. Block the entrance. Block the exit. Yeah, he's coming right after you guys. And then the next one is the one underneath Einar! Einar, you are not hidden by any means, are you?
SPEAKER_16No, I didn't hide this time.
SPEAKER_10Okay, so you are going to feel a stare as this monster will also chill and gaze you. You are out of range, however, for the claws, so it'll just be the chilling gaze. Uh, I need you to roll me a constitution saving throw DC 18, please.
SPEAKER_16Come on, Sunshine.
SPEAKER_10Nope. Alright.
SPEAKER_16Just under I'm frozen next.
SPEAKER_1023 points of cold damage, and you are frozen to the wall for one turn until the beginning of that Yeti's next turn. Okay, and next up is the other Yeti on the other side there. Move him uh two behind the Yeti next to Einar. To Einar, please. Thank you. And he is going to do an ice throw. Now, this is not a crit because he is not within five feet of you. So it is still it is still a roll to hit.
SPEAKER_16Disadvantage.
SPEAKER_10Why is it disadvantage? Uh, displays are cloak, but I don't uh I think that that still applies. I think that still applies. Yeah, I do.
