Still exploring the dwarven mine, the Planar Vanguard find their search for the dragon is further compounded by the assumptions and fears they carry as to which direction to turn. Back tracking and scouting ahead seem to prove fruitless for the party, but potentially very fruitful for the other creatures who dwell in the earth.

Okay, welcome back. Um, the last time we left off with the Planar Vanguard, you guys were inside a blacksmith shop that is underground in the Dwarven mines underneath Winter Forge. And Drax had decided yet again to depart his body and go and touch something and go into the anvil, which I think if you look at it from Drax's perspective, would have loved to have stayed there. It was very nice, it's like heaven almost. And then he got yanked back by his comrades to reality. And then you could hear the dead rustling from the crypts, and Drucan showed his true power and blasted them all into oblivion. The group has been going through this dungeon now for almost two sessions, and under the suppression of magic, there is something in the area that is stopping the party from being able to cast spells. That being said, they've still done very well in rolling to be able to cast the spells. Yep. Everyone knows. Everyone knows who the roller is. Let's see if that continues today.

I hope so. I really hope so. But that's basically where we're gonna pick up from. You guys will be inside that blacksmith. Uh, as you killed all that undead and created that loud racket, there was a long roar growl that just resonated throughout the entire dungeon. Unsure of what it is, but fairly certain that you could figure it out. We'll start you guys off in there. Oh great, what was that? The dragon, you fool.

I'm gonna go part way down the weather bickering. I'm gonna go part way down the passage we came in. Okay. And just kind of lay an ambush on the roof. You're talking about the one towards where all the uh dead came from.

Yeah, yeah, you can go down there for sure. So all you see when you go down there is the uh just the remnants of absolute cons constant destruction from Drucan. Well, they were dusted, weren't they? Oh yeah. You just see shards of fabric, you know, little pieces of metal maybe they had in their teeth, and they're just all over the floor with just piles of ash and dust as he has laid complete waste to what looks like could be an entire family line of dwarves.

Two gold rings. Yeah. So roughly equals around five gold. Sure. If you melted them down. Sure. Yeah. I'll just take it then. But yeah, so he what he does, he passes underneath you while he's like kicking over the the ash.

So from above him, I do just kind of whisper. I'm like, you know, those are property of the doors, not random things off of monsters.

I'm like, stick to the walls. I'm hidden. He's just kicking through the things. I can't stick to the walls. I shake my head. I'm like, don't walk blatantly through the thing when you're scouting. Hide. This is a great conversation.

Oh, got it. Okay. I thought we were just down the hallway. So, anyways, I'm gonna walk back to the forge now.

Okay, yeah. So you're back into the area now. There is the way that this uh area looks, I'll just lay it out for you so you have an understanding. Yeah, I think you've already got it figured out there. It's like a square with an uh adjunct that goes off to the left up a flight of stairs, so you actually go up a level to get up to the next one. And then you come to the end of that, and it is a T intersection left and right.

That green glowing light in that direction that we had seen.

You do not see that green glowing light anymore. It's all gone. It's well, it's not that it's all gone, it's definitely not within the viewing of the direction of the We didn't.

I thought we went into the no, we have to turn around and came back to the blacksmith. So we gotta go back to where we fought the yetis and that's where the green glow light is down there.

She can see them. I'll sort of like holding my hand out to a dolphin. Yeah, it's it's easy. There's just um rings that look like they have some engravings on them that could be from family.

Nothing that you would that would stick out and make sense to you, but just like, oh, these are kind of cool.

Okay. Uh, do you want to use your passive perception for traps or do you want to actively roll and actively look for them? Your passive perception is pretty high. However, my active is better. Your active is better, so you have a better chance if you continually stop, but if you choose to continually stop and check it.

So you guys are the way it's working right now is that Rold is very, very stealthy, and he's way up ahead and he's very silent, but you guys are more shuffling as a group together, and it's a little louder. So the closer you get to Rold, the less advantage he has on being stealthy. Does that make sense? Yeah, and you guys know this.

You know, okay, we're not able to be quite. No, I don't want to be a little bit more.

It's like 30 feet-ish back or something. Yeah. Yeah.

Well, that's yeah, that's whatever he decides to do. Yeah. Um, okay, so you make it at least 40. How about 40 people perfect? So you guys are at the top of the stairs. We'll put this, you're at the top of the stairs, rolled will get right to the actual T intersection.

Okay. I just sort of look back and say, and just sort of point this way, this way.

Okay. Some points. At this point, it doesn't matter. So you peek around the you peek around the corner to the left and you see that it goes about 50 feet, and then the wall has actually crumbled down and blocked the entire passage. Okay. Um did it.

Yeah, just kind of like out of the hallway and then like.

Anyways, I just sort of signal that that isn't really the way to go, I guess. Okay. Or it's like, uh.

Alright. You turn to the right. Yeah. And you see that it goes up about another 50 feet, and then there are what looks to be, it looked to have been uh a four-way uh intersection between hallways, but a lot of it is collapsed and crumbled out. So now instead of being what looks like a an actual four-lane passage, it's uh quite a large open area that's the walls have been broken out and there's rubble lying on the ground. And you can hear um like a sound of something like that.

I'll just be like uh I'm gonna head back to the group and just sort of whisper to them or whatever that you know there is a sound up there. Okay um something making some sort of grumbling noise up to the right. We want to investigate, I can't really tell what it is. Okay.

Is it a room or is it just like a rough hewn cavern?

SPEAKER_04

Uh it's sort of like a dead end both directions, but like there's sort of so the one direction there where I didn't go is because it looked like it was completely sealed off. The other side was partially sealed off, and then I just heard uh some rumbling from where we could actually go through.

To be to just to like clarify, it's not sealed off. It's the intersection is there still. There's still four ways to go, but it's crumbled out. So instead of being like this clean, it's like a big open area that still has the walls of crumbled in it.

And Delphine was asking, is it like a built dwarven passage or is it a natural cavern?

SPEAKER_00

It is a it would it it appears to you that it was built, a dwarven built, but has been destroyed by either an explosion or there's something that's ripping something that's ripping the stone out. Okay, so yeah, I explained that.

Linar has been spending the time, because I said it wasn't being stealthy. I've actually been trying to look for signs of passage before us.

Nine? Yeah, you're you're you're looking to see if it's been traversed before you guys got there, but according to that role, everything looks like it's been traversed before you guys got there. Okay. You're not able to ascertain the distance in time between the footprints. You're like, oh, these are all this must have all happened at the same time. Weird.

Do we want to keep going in this direction or do we want to go back to where the green glowing light was?

Well, I'm sort of curious about what destroyed everything. Maybe we should just take a look. It could be, you know, I don't know, how all the stuff got here. We are ascending, not descending. I'd rather go the other way and go down and I'm happy with doing that too. I wouldn't just mind just doing a quick investigation, just moving a little further up to see what the heck's making all the noise.

Whatever's blocking the magic could be above us.

True. That's the point. I'm almost thinking maybe it's tied to, you know, they there said there is something that fell out of the sky. If it's all destroyed, maybe it has something to do with that, but well, we know it fell out of the sky. Exactly. But obviously it came on something. It's on the dragon.

Yeah. I assume there's like a big stone or something. But anyways. So, anyways, yeah. You never know. Okay. So I guess uh I'll just shall we go in? Yeah, I'll start and stay a little bit ahead and just take a look, a peek further, anyways, just to see what's going on.

Okay. Uh with your 32, you are able to get right up to that first crumbling wall that kind of crumbles out. And it looks like if I were to draw it in the air for you, so it's like here's your patches way, and then it it kind of goes out like this into this little cavernous here, and there's like a hallway like that, and a hallway like that.

You absolutely can. Is is Miriam able to be stealthy?

I instinctively go to put my hand on Drew Ken and I'm like, mm-hmm. No. No, I don't want to do that right now.

So I go over to Drax, I put my hand on Drax just so because I go basically blind when I'm looking through her senses. So yeah, that's what you get.

Alright, so for her, for stealth. Uh 12.

12. So she's able to fly quietly within the area, but because of the reverberating sound of the chambers, the the sound of the air coming off of her wings does echo a little bit. Uh not a ton, but enough that it would alert anybody up there. So as Miram flies towards there and kind of like passes by rolled, uh, it does alert whatever creatures in there. So you do hear like a like a and alert it to the area, and uh, through Miram's eyes, you can see a wide open cavern, roughly 30 feet by 30 feet, in more of like a diamond shape, uh, and hovering about three feet above the ground, you see two beholders. Kind of like and they both go and they look directly at your mind.

I'm gonna whisper to all those with me like, oh, there's just two holders, there's two beholders there. Do they look like the zombie beholder we fought before or like living beholders?

Okay, if there's two beholders there, then they gotta be blocking something though.

They could just be making this cavern their home.

I do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he I was gonna tell him that he saw them when you when you said that. So you both see these things. You see them be alert to Miram, but they're not alert to you yet. But they are looking in your direction now.

I'm gonna have her just kind of go up into like the ceiling area, like as though she just happens to be here. Not try and lead her. Oh, okay, lead them back to you or to us.

She just kind of keeps flying around.

Yeah, she just keeps flying around. They are magical creatures, um, but they are not magic. The eyes are not magic spells. This is the key difference here. Abilities and spells differ. So be aware of that. I will give you that little hint.

She's she's just trying not to have them looking at where he might be.

Yeah, and we stated at the very beginning this the anti-magic field is strictly for like abilities that require to be a spell. No, not a spell slot that require to be a spell, right? So, because like Drax's Echo Knight is not a spell per se, but it is a spell in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Right? Do the beholders have any sheen?

One of them does, yeah. Oh, wait, no spell.

Okay, I'm definitely making my way back to the group and uh it's good if the beholders keep looking at me around. Yeah.

And I'm definitely mentioning their train on there. At least one of them is infected. Yeah. I think it's a bad idea to go behind. There's two beholders, at least one of them is infected. I don't. I think you may be right. I don't know if going the other direction is gonna be any better, but it's a bad idea leaving something like beholders at our back.

It's a bad idea to fight beholders when you have no fucking spells.

Yeah, so it's it's been it's been decimated.

I didn't literally have a chance to look to see if, you know, they'd created their own passage with us.

You do see, as you're looking in there, there is an area that the beholders are kind of hovering around that is a like a small, what looks like a pool of black ink. Yeah, so they might be protecting that ink.

Did he successfully sneak back to us?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, like his 32 is like Yeah, it was actually 32. I actually forgot he was in there.

No, I've come back to you guys. I measured two beholders because I had no idea.

Yeah, and that one is inky. How colorful is your vision at this moment? He's got dark vision as well. So dark everybody else. Okay. Shades of gray. So you can't definitely tell us that it is black.

He doesn't know the sheen. I don't know. He doesn't know the sheen, uh, the color of the sheen on the beholder, but he can tell black.

Alright, so. I say we backtrack back to the tombs and then maybe go green to the other side of the tombs and see how. The green is where we would find it.

We need to get rid of this fucking magic users thing so that half our party is useful.

Yeah. And we could go there and see if there's anything there, but I don't know if that's that could be where this shield is being held. I don't know.

And we know that this stuff is like the same as what you guys saw when we were at Silvery Moon, right?

It looks like there are cobwebs all over all the gears. It looks like it hasn't been moved in a long time. What do I do?

Are we even in the room? We're in the room. There's nobody that's left the room. So you pull the lever and you hear the it wasn't me! The moving up of the stone underneath the lever, and then you can start to hear water rushing through, and it rushes underneath the water wheel, and it just builds up a little bit. Takes a little bit for the water to come up, but then eventually it's just start to rush out, and it does still slowly start to the wheels begin to turn under the weight and the pressure of the water, and you can hear everything kind of like starts grinding and moving as the gears do start to move, and then you can hear the from above the the lowering of the rectangle, and it lowers slowly and slowly to the ground. It takes about I'd say two or three minutes for it to get down to the ground, but eventually it does get lowered. And there's chains that go up into the ceilings, one on each corner of the rectangle, and it hits the ground, and then the wheel continues to turn.

There is. You see on the rectangle is a what looks to be an altar with a little bit of a stand, and then on top of it is a large basin. The basin itself is empty, and inside is very it's it's carved out beautifully and smooth. Obviously, Dwarven culture has carved it out, and uh it just sits there. So you have seen this type of thing before. You know this to be uh an altar of healing, but it is not activated. So it's an enchanted altar, and when the offering is placed inside of it, it activates the ability to get healing points from it. It has a certain amount of healing points inside of it, and once those healing points are depleted, you are no longer able to get any healing from it, but it is something that you would be able to return to uh to heal. But you've got to figure out what goes inside. And as you make your Arcana check, you can hear in the ceiling as the timing on the gears has now shifted, and the walls and the doors start to get out on either side. Slowly closing. Let's get out. They're three quarters or a quarter of the way down. We're going to passing.
