Welcome to the Alpha Get Outdoorsman Podcast, where we talk all things Alpha Gamma and all things outdoors. Everything from hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, jeeping, off-roading, even gardening. I'm your host, Robert Worley. Hey y'all. Welcome back to another episode of Alpha Get Outdoorsman. As the intro just said, I am your host, Robert Worley. Can you believe? I can't really believe we're on episode 13 already. It just blows my mind. But here we are, episode 13. We've had 12 good ones so far. Today's going to be probably a short uh you might hear the road because I'm sitting in the backfield up here, and just on the other side of this tree line behind me is a road. You might hear a few cars here now and then. But um so um I kind of lost my train of thought there for a second. But, anyways, today's episode is gonna be kind of a short one. It's gonna be a solo episode. Um, solo episode, uh, I'll tell you why. I had Will Winfrey. Now you've heard me talk in the past couple episodes about um having Will on because of his issues that he's got going on, and we have tried to get it put together. We was unable to get it the timing-wise put together um uh with his treatment and stuff to where he feels good and he's and he's ready to set down for a full-length episode. I was going to do a bonus drop, but he's got way too much to say, he's got way too much to go over. Um, the issues that he's having now with Alpha Gal and starting to gain control again is worth a full-length episode. So uh today's June the 12th. I uh spoke with him yesterday, and um, we are going to record on Monday, which is probably the 15th, which when this episode will come out, and he'll be on the uh July 1st episode. So Will's got some Will has some um issues, some health issues going on that is related or caused by um uh Alpha Gal or the tick bite you know in general. Um, so there's a lot to go over with that. Uh man, it's summertime. It is summertime. So far, I'm having a great summer. My wife and I, we've been doing a lot of things. We've been on the lake quite a several, been on the lake quite a few times, um, a few concerts here and there. Um, I haven't hit the river yet. I've talked about the Whitewater River numerous times on here, but uh spring rush for my business, it gets very busy in the spring, and then we get into summertime and it slows down a little bit. So um I'm definitely starting into my uh I don't want to call it a slow time because I still work every day, but um, it's not a crazy rush. I'm able to schedule things a little better. Uh my wife Nikki is able to uh she'll be closing the store on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. Therefore, we'll have our full weekends. So um we'll be talking about the Whitewater River real soon. Um so I got I got some notes here in front of me, just things I want to cover, I want to cover today. I'm sitting in the back 40. Uh we call it the back 40. Uh, my wife and I got about five acres, and this back section back here, um, we let go. It's maybe like I don't know, two acres of the back half that you really can't see. It goes over little rides. We leave for the we leave for the wildlife. And um, I'm sitting back here because it's so nice tonight. It's about 6 30 or 7 o'clock on uh June 12th. So um let me just browse real quick through my notes and see. Um so I almost the re kind of reason this is a solo episode is because I had three episodes up and ready to roll, like right after Eddie Palmer, which was episode nine, um, I had turkey bonanza. And so Roy and I recorded two episodes in four days, turkey, you know, Eastern Kentucky Turkey Hunt. And then Lisa Meninska had messaged me before we had scheduled ours, so I had them three episodes up and going. I almost forgot for a minute there. I was a podcaster, but uh here we are. Um getting getting caught back up, getting in the swing of things. Um so my summer so far when it comes to reactions and stuff has been pretty good. Um I am in my fourth summer of Alpha Gal. My first my fourth full summer, and um, you know, it was definitely a learning curve the first three. You got you have um uh you know learning how being out in the sun would just affect my histamines and you know um all the things. So so um I got that pretty good under control now. Um I've had some GI a couple of times, but overall, reaction-wise, I've been doing I've been doing very well uh lately. Got my you know, the histamine thing is the big thing, obviously. I still take that Famodidine tablet every morning, um, and I try to avoid the antihistamine at night if I have to, but I can usually feel because if my histamine start to get out of whack, it's kind of a mental thing for me first. So if I feel like I'm starting to get grumpy and there's really no reason why, a lot of times it's my histamines. So I'll jump on a histamine antihistamine tablet at nighttime, you know. Um, and I'm not recommending this for anybody, it's just what works for me. You gotta figure out what works for you, you know. Um, so um uh so um you heard me talk a lot about early on about you know my fatty liver. Um my goal was 25 pounds by turkey season. I am here to say I didn't make it. I didn't make it, um, but I'm still losing. Uh I made it halfway, uh halfway, and then went the wrong way for a minute. Um, and you know, it kind of got to summertime, man, and it's it's cookout time, and it's a little bit it's lake time and stuff, and and um you know you gotta be careful. I mean, I'm 55, I don't lose it like I used to, you know. Um so um but I'm still on it. Um I have discovered, and I don't know if I've discovered, but research shows me that losing it slower, um you're more apt to keep it off and be healthier than a drastic weight drop, you know, by people that use drugs to do it or whatever. So um, you know, um I'm I'm I'm getting there. I'm getting there. Let's just say that. So um uh the Will Will Winford episode. So if you don't know who Will is, jump back to jump back to it's like episode five, six or seven. Uh he's the mountain climber. You can watch that episode or listen to that episode and kind of get caught up. Well, he's had them serious episodes. He's had some serious health issues that is all related to uh either Alpha Gal or a tick-borne illness or both uh thereabouts. It's really hard to understand, but that's why I'm gonna have him on to explain it all. Um, and and you know, at one point I said, I may have already mentioned this, but I said I was gonna have a bonus. Like if you listen to the the episode with Lisa Meninska, I said I was gonna have a bonus, and I thought it would be dropped before then, but like I said, talking to him, talking to him, he's just got way too much to say, you know. Um, so enough on that. So listen, I'm gonna tell you a crazy story. It's kind of funny, actually. It's very funny, actually. So my wife and I, we have two dogs. Uh she's got it one and I got a dog. Um and they're inside dogs, they actually sleep in the bed with us. They're they're in, in and out of the house. My wife is very good on the she takes care of things that I don't even I wouldn't even think of, I don't think. You know, it's like um it's like their their flea and tick treatment. She never slacks, she she she's always on it. Well, almost always. But sometimes she forgets for a little bit, you know. So we went to the gorge on uh last weekend. Uh it was Saturday. We didn't decide till Saturday. We was like, and I'm getting back to the dogs here in a second on this story. This is a very funny story. So we Saturday was sitting around, we was like, what are we doing tomorrow? She's still in the store. It's still open on Saturdays. She was off. I had Sunday, Monday off. Like, let's go. So we loaded up Sunday morning, went to the gorge. We ended up walking up and down the Red River, uh, letting the dogs play in the um river and throwing the ball and you know, playing in the river. And we kept a pretty good eye on them and did a tick check that evening, good to go. Um, but where we live, we don't come back home obviously, the dogs are in and out. They've got a fenced-in backyard, a pretty good size fenced in backyard, and one corner where they like to lay in the shade just across the fence is kind of wooded. And um, you know, we've never had an issue with ticks at all in the backyard or anything like that. Never been a problem. Um, but um Nick's been very busy as well. Um, and uh we obviously was a little behind on the tick, on the tick, uh tick and flee and tick thing, you know. So last night at 3:44 in the morning, her feet hits the floor 100 miles an hour. It's like the house is on fire. Flips on the light in the bedroom, big overhead light, which we hardly ever use. We got the lamps on each side of the bed, right? Flips that on, and I can feel her energy just like I what what's happening right now? What is going on? Well, she had woke up in the middle of the night, you know, and kind of half awake, half asleep, and rolled around and pet the dog a few times and felt a tick on the dog. Oh my god, she came out of that bed. She she was it was a hundred miles an hour, and I and it ain't funny, but it's absolutely hilarious if you if you follow, if you're picking up what I'm putting down. She comes out of that bed. Well, I roll over and scoots, the dog, she's like, Oh, I'm getting attention. She don't care, you know. So I rub her head a little bit to keep her stay. Nick gets a pair of tweezers, gets a hold of this tick. Now that's a small seed tick. She gets a hold of this tick and pulls this tick off and fumbles around and foop, the tick's gone. Now it's in our bed or somewhere close. Now she's in a real panic. She's freaking out. I'm like, Nick, that tick has bit the dog. Dog's a mammal. If it bites you, you're gonna be like me, you know, and it's just a total panic moment. She's looking for her glasses. I'm I'm trying not to let the dog out of the bed. Now she's running around flipping all the lamps on in the bedroom. Now, no, now again, this was at 3 44 in the morning. 3 44 in the morning. I sound asleep. I wasn't on a tick hunt. I was sound asleep. So we finally let the dog up and get the dog moving. We spread the blankets out, can't find it. Finally, she does find the tick on the floor, picks it up, goes and gets a piece of tape, sticks it to a piece of tape into a baggie, into a ziploc baggie. And she tucks it on the cork board in the kitchen. I ain't even looked at it yet. I I just this morning, but I rolled out at 7 o'clock this morning, chuckling over our panic session at 3 44 in the morning. So, so or just for a learner or just for uh don't forget your dog's tea and flea and flea and tick treatment because it's you don't be like us at 3:40 and 4 in the morning panicking because you're afraid your wife's gonna get alpha gal syndrome. Don't want to let that happen. Um, so I got listen, I got another crazy story for you. Um, and this is Alpha Galated too, very much so. So, you've heard me mention in the past that my great-grandfather had bought a cabin on St. Joe Island, Canada, and you know uh he started going in 49. I think I said before he bought in 49, but actually started going in 49 fishing, and he bought the cabin around like 64 or something like that. Um, it's still in the family. Uh, my dad, his brothers, and and late sister, they they're there's the owners. Um so when I used to go spend the whole summers, I used to go spend the entire summer with my grandmother when I was young. So, like from like 9, 10, 11, and 12, something like that. Um, I would go spend the whole summers up there on the island. And I got to know all the neighboring kids. I got to know them so well that um, you know, my daughter's getting married in July, and some of them are coming to a wedding. I mean, we know we're very close friends with a lot of them. Well, my friend Leanne has been sick since 2016. She had no idea what was wrong with her. You know, serious GI issues. Um, she would get blisters on the palms of her hands and they would bust and I and and just some things that she could not explain at all. Okay, this started in 2016. In 2016, she was in Tennessee on vacation and she got bit by a tick. And she remembers it. She very much remembers it, and I don't know how she remembers it. I mean, I feel like she might have been checked for Lyme or something, you know, thinking there was a correlation there. They have no idea in Canada what Alpha Gal Syndrome is, none at all. So my second year with Alpha Gal, second summer we made a trip up there. My first summer was just figuring life out, plain and simple. Second summer, I was getting a better, I was getting good enough to where I knew I could take, you know, just chicken and certain things, and I would so we went to Canada. And Lee Ann and her husband Bill come over and visit us. And she asked me about Alpha Gal and really questioned me a lot. And and um she that she started putting two and two together. So um she can't f she couldn't find anybody in Ontario to give her a test, you know. Um she she she got with me and I helped her through the Alpha Gaul Alliance Um, you know, get the information that she would need to give to her doctor to get the exact test that she needed, which is I I don't remember, was that IEG test or whatever, however. So she gets it, she gets the test, and it comes back 0.35. Well, we all know here in the States that anything anything above a 0.10 is a positive. That's a positive, right? 0.35, she is definitely a positive. But it's Canada. Her doctor told her, you are not, it's that's a negative. That's a negative test. The numbers are too low, that's negative. I called, I called uh Sharon with the Alpha Gow Alliance, and she's like, no, they use the metric system just like I do. That is a pot that or just like we do, or we use the metric system for tests like that, just like just like they do. That's a positive test. But there's still that little bit of doubt because it's Canada. A whole different country, whole different set of rules. Who knows if it's actually right? We really strongly believe that it is, but there's just that little bit of doubt. You know, she asked me, what do you think I should do? I said, I think you need to drive right through Michigan and Ohio and head right down into Kentucky or Tennessee, where you can find a doctor that knows exactly what they're looking for. So that's what she's done. She's made her an appointment in Lexington at a place. Um and and and the meat, she doesn't eat a ton of red meat. Red meat is not really her issue, it's dairy, and she loves dairy. Uh, Canadians drink a lot of coffee, and she always drinks dairy in her coffee. She ice cream, dairy, dairy, dairy. That's her thing, and that is her nemesis. And she's been struggling with it for a long time. The doctor was like, doctor has been like, well, you don't necessarily need to stop, we need to limit, or we need to slowly increase all these other things because they don't understand Alpha Gal. If it is Alpha Gal. I'm kind of torn. We're gonna just we're gonna keep following this. Um we're gonna keep following this for a while. And um I can't remember when when she said her um when she said her appointment is in Kentucky. Um but um we're gonna really keep following this and um um uh we'll we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens. I my best advice was I told her I said you need to cut all dairy out, and you need to go down to just three or four things that you know you can eat. Start there, make sure you're good, add one thing, you know, do that for a while. You know, we all know the routine. Get you a food journal as well, my advice. So um we're really gonna find out. Um, I'm really curious about this, um, and that kind of leads me into a little bit of the next thing, you know. Um, Alpha Gal Alliance has a new home page. Alpha Gal Alliance is the leaders in raising awareness, education for doctors, um, they handle a lot of our social social media pages. Um if you're seeing stuff that's really educational and not political propaganda, if it's really educational, it probably comes from Alpha Gal Alliance. Um so I shared their homepage. If you go to my Facebook page, Alpha Galdoorsman, I just shared it today. I won't, I won't, I'll I don't think I'll share another video for a couple days, um, at least till after this drops. Um go there, check out their new homepage. There's a way to support all the things. Um, and there's uh there's also um Alpha Gal Alliance Action Fund. Is that what it's called? Yeah. And it's kind of the same but different. And um Alpha Gal Alliance is who I watched the seminar or the uh webinar through to when we got Bill 578 started here in Ohio. Um so they have been side by side with me. Actually, I can't say side by side because they've done most of the work. All I've done is got in the truck, drove to Columbus whenever they've needed me to go advocate at the state house. Um now that we've so uh on Bill 578, I'll tell you where we're at. You know that it went through the House and it flew through the House, it passed in flying colors, and it goes to the Senate, and now it's it feels like it's at a standstill. And I know that the wheels of politics turn slow. We was just very fortunate that um it went so fast through the house because um the one of the co-writers of the bill was the chairman of the health committee for the house, so it really did get pushed through fast. I mean, we introduced the bill, and it was like six weeks or eight weeks later, I was at the state house testifying in front of the house for bill 578. But we've passed, it went to Senate, it has gone to Senate, and um it's in the health committee. So we thought that it would might be on the agenda for June 8th for the health committee to get voted out, it it wasn't. So I'm not sure where we're at right now because I know that the Senate is about to go to like a summer break. I think they got a winter break, a spring break, a fall break, and a summer break, which drives me insane, but I don't know if that's all that. I know they got a winter and a summer. Um, but anyways, they're getting ready to go on summer break, and I don't know if they're gonna be back until August. So I'm uh it's gonna happen. Uh the chairman of the uh health committee in the Senate is my senator, Senator Huffman. We've been to his office, we've sat down with him, we've had talks with him, I've been on the phone with him personally, and he supports the bill. So everybody that we've talked to, every senator that we've dealt with, it's almost a no-brainer. I it's gonna I feel very strongly that it's gonna pass. However, we got to get it out of the health committee. Soon as it passes out of the health committee, it goes to the floor, and um, it's got to have three readings. Uh, and uh I think the third, second, I think the second is testimony, and that's when I'll be going back. So that's where we stand right now for with um uh you know uh bill 578. So um, and that leads me a little bit to the next thing. I know that you've all been watching the news, and um you know, I don't want to get political on here ever on I hate politics, and I think both sides are as crooked as they can be. Um, and I'll just that's where I'll try to I'll try to leave that. But if you've been watching this this RFK, uh RFK, the stuff that he's doing for uh uh vector-borne illnesses, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted feeder, and Alpha Gal. If you've been watching these Bill Gates, um, if you've been watching these Bill Gates conspiracy theories, for instance, um I'm not sure where I stand all uh I kind of I'm not sure where I stand on this. I I uh you know, but I want to bring it up because if you was to sit here and ask me, what's RFK doing right now for Alpha Gow Syndrome? I can give you two answers. Both of them are right. The first one is I have no idea exactly the policy. I have no idea about the policy because I'm not a politician, so I don't know what he's doing, but I can tell you exactly what he's doing, and right now he's raising awareness. He is raising awareness big time. I don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, independent, I don't care, but he is definitely raising awareness right now, and that's what we need. When we started advocating in Ohio for Bill 578, nobody knew what Alpha Gal was in this part of the state where I'm at. Nobody did. Nobody knew what Alpha Gal was. Um now I'll open my computer up and I'll have, you know, sometimes I got three, four messages on social social media where people messenger or text me, and it's it's the Bill Gates conspiracy on Alpha Gal, or it's this, or it's that. There is so much attention in Southwest Ohio right now on Alpha Gal. It is awesome. It is awesome. We don't want we want education out there. We don't want, you know, heaven forbid your kids, you know, or your grandkids, you know. I mean, I feel so bad for them people that the kids has got it, and they gotta try to help, you know. I mean, I know parents would take it away from them in a minute if they could, but um so RFK right now, all the thing I heard him um I watched a clip of a um press conference today. It was recorded on June the 8th, was just a few days ago. And he said that Martha the adult population of Martha's Martha's Vineyard, 50% of all adults have Alpha Gow syndrome. I want you to think about that for a minute. Think about your neighborhood, you know, or if you're young and in school, think about the school, or thinking about the community you live in. 50% of adults at Martha's Vineyard, I would if I had kids and they didn't have it, I'd move the heck out of there. I don't know if that number's true, that's just what he claimed. But you know, I had a woman in Wolf County in Kentucky tell me months ago that she claimed that 30% of Wolf County had it. And um, she raised a good point because inside the the restaurant we was in, the percentage she was about spot on with the people that was in there. Um and I know I've talked about that before. Um this um Bill Gates thing, you know, I I don't know. I don't know why he would be researching ticks and all this goofy stuff. I you know, I mean, the but they claim and they're finding these tick boxes. Okay, I watched a clip, Joe Rogan, he was he was interviewing a timber shed. Um uh it's episode 2495, and um he claims these farmers and ranchers are finding tick boxes where they're dropping these ticks from from aircraft, right? And the claim is that they're dropping these sterile ticks to help kill off the population. That don't make much sense to me. I don't know how that would work. Maybe if you do send me an email at AlphaGout Dorseman, a Gmail, let me know that I'm talking out of my head, but that's the goofiest thing I think I've ever heard of. Uh I don't know, but I don't know if it's even true. But if you go back, Bill Gates is has definitely done tech research, and and there's documentation out there. But the documentation for when he started was years after Alpha Gal was already here. Alpha Gal been here a long time before he started. Now I know 2009's the big year when it got a name and it got a where it come from and all that stuff, but you and I know both that Alpha Gal been here years longer. You know, so when Bill G, and I'm not saying he's innocent, I'm not saying he's guilty, I'm just throwing a few facts out there. But I will say this all uh what's the saying? Um I about had it right there, but all publicity is good publicity. We're raising awareness for Alpha Gauss syndrome, and that's what we need. We need people to know, don't stop going outside, but take precautions when you do. Because if somebody would have told me even a year before I got this, I'm going up the back field, better put some tick spray on. I'm not putting no tick, I'm just going to the back field. I'm gonna put that stinky stuff on, you know. But if I would have had this awareness then, I shared a post. Here's a for instance for you. Somebody sent me this post off of this certain uh news site, and it was raising awareness for Alpha Gal. But they did have to put they did have to add that little jab on Bill Gates, right? They at the end they said there's a conspiracy theory, whatever, that okay, I just shared it. I shared it. And I had one of one of my friends uh on on the social media site gets on there and gives me a hard time because I shared this information from a news site, and I don't remember if it was hard right or hard left. He said, You can't trust anything these this this news channel says because they're hard right or hard left. I don't even remember which. I don't care, they're both equal to me. Right and the left are both crooked, but it made him mad because he's hard one way, and um I'm like, I don't I don't care about the political side, I care about raising awareness. If it takes a conspiracy theory to get people to start paying attention, then fine. Guess what? Maybe Bill Gates did it, so you don't want it, you don't want Alpha Guy. If he if if you believe he made it, trust me, you don't want it. I don't know the I don't know the theories, I don't know the the ins and outs, but I know that right now there's a lot of good things happening. Um I mentioned the Alpha Guy Alliance, please go to that homepage, please look at it, and if you're able to support in any way at all, please do support. Um help raise awareness. You see these things on your social media, share them out there, share them with the world. You know, um, I can't imagine being the father of a five-year-old that you've raised that loves hot dogs or loves cheeseburgers, and now all of a sudden he can't have his, he can't go to McDonald's. You know, can you imagine? That's why we all need to advocate together and stick together and raise awareness for Alpha Gow syndrome. So that's my that's my pitch for today. Let me just uh well that note that road is no, I don't think I ever noticed exactly how noisy it was, but it is noisy, ain't it? Um just to check my notes here real fast, make sure I covered everything. So we'll be on the next episode. Um the the the next few guests, I hadn't contacted that through hiker for a little while because um I had some episodes backed up. Uh I got another climber, like I have mentioned before, down in the gorge. She runs a climbing school. I haven't reached back out to her, they both um have been willing to come on. Um there's a person that I was really trying to get on that I didn't think was interested. Um, and I run into him uh here last weekend, and he was telling me about he ordered some ostrich steaks. There's a new farm in Kentucky that um are raising uh ostrich or emu or maybe both. Um I can't remember the name of the farm or where it's at or nothing like that, but he was able to pick up some ostrich steaks and he was excited as heck to tell me about it, and um I'm happy, I'm happy that he's you know found that for sure. But I've been wanting to get him on because he is a scholar when it comes to uh Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge area down there. And you guys know that I spent a lot of time down there, I love that place so much. Um that um um but uh uh he did say I said man, I'd sure like to get you on. And he said, Man, I've just been been busy. I haven't I haven't been ignoring you, it's just ain't been able to get back. So hopefully we get him on as well. Um, but it's summertime right now. I'm not gonna keep you too long here, and he wants you to get outside. It's summer. Go outside, go fishing, go to the lake, go to the beach, go see a show. Uh when I say show and outside or a concert or something, you know. Uh put your promethrin on if you're gonna be in the weeds, um, that sort of stuff. Uh remember, there's there's baby deer everywhere right now. There's baby deer. If you see one and mom's not around, mom is coming back. That's a defense mechanism for white-tailed deer. Um they have their baby, they feed it good, and then they leave it and it and it hides. It lays down and it hides. And she comes back periodically through the day to feed, um, and that is the defense mechanism. Then baby deer don't smell, um, so those so the so the predators can't smell them. So if you find a baby deer laying somewhere in your yard, in the backyard, out somewhere where you're hiking, walking, or whatever, please leave it alone. Mom's coming back. So that's my public service service announcement for the day. Um I think that's about it. I think that's about it. I'm gonna cut this one short um today. Uh again, I hope you're all having a great summer. I hope your rat your reactions are to a minimum, and I hope you got you a good piece of I hate chicken. Anyways, thanks for tuning in to Alpha Gat Outdoorsman. Uh, I'll see you in a couple weeks. Thanks for tuning in to Alpha Gat Outdoorsman. Make sure to hit that follow button. And until we meet again, wear your ticker felling.
