What's up, guys? Welcome back to another episode of Hustle and Heat Podcast. Today is episode 27. For episode 27, I'd like to welcome special guests from Phoenix On-Site Repair. Uh, without further ado, I'd like to welcome these guys. Guys, welcome to the podcast. Appreciate having you, George. Thanks for having me. Appreciate you guys coming on. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
SPEAKER_01So we do vehicle maintenance and repair across the board from small engines to heavy equipment to include boats.
SPEAKER_02Alright. Even boats?
SPEAKER_00Even boats. Anything with an engine.
SPEAKER_02Anything with an engine.
SPEAKER_00Heavy equipment, excavators, forklifts, you name it.
SPEAKER_02Alright. With today's episode, we're gonna do a little something different. Uh we're gonna have Chris ask a question. So, Chris, highest was the five-year anniversary. Uh, lowest point was just restaffing and just trying to get things going and dealing with this economy and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01Lowest point for us is probably the first of the year, just being real slow. Uh highest point for me is just growing, seeing it grow.
SPEAKER_00Little piggyback, same thing. Yeah. In and out, a couple technicians, and feel really good where we are now. But yeah, you're having that issue with employment at times, and think you're good, and you blink, and next thing you know, you're always think they're good, and then you know.
SPEAKER_02Some people talk more than they can work, you know.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, we see that. Yep. The in and out of families, um, mom stopping in with her kids, you know, just something simple like just some air in her tire, you know, just trying to pull out her wallet and know she's got a car full of kids, and just something simple to take care of the community, that there's no need for a charge, like something like that in and out. You can see the distress and the economy we're in, like, you know, just letting her know that and you know, be relieved, and um seeing business come back from that, her referring to us, you know, being thankful for that moment. So, yeah, it's definitely the heart of this guy here that starts, and we like to feed off of that. So, little things like that, and then you know, being able to build off of that.
SPEAKER_02Cool. For me, it's um just every day seeing customers smile and just enjoy the food and just really put out good food and uh just seeing the employees be able to make a living wage. I've seen one employee who's single mom, she's able to afford an apartment by herself, just serving here, bartending here. So it's just nice to be able to create an atmosphere where people can pay for their bills and you know, you have multiple families eating off one concept kind of thing.
SPEAKER_00Um, just a quick background on me. I was 20 years in retail, um, coming out of high school, you know, some people might have thought I played football. I was too shy to play football, I was too shy to do a lot of things. Um, but seeing people speak and seeing attributes and um just the way people present themselves and picking up on things and kind of creating my own kind of personality, um, being able to speak in front of a hundred, five hundred, a thousand, um, one-on-one, have conversations, just be a good listener. Um, but yeah, very much communication. You know, I think that's a thing. A lot of people have opinions and want to talk, but I think a very key thing uh still to me uh is just listening. So yeah, having being able to listen and you know have that conversation. So definitely like public speaking. I know a lot of people have a hard time with that. So yeah, I definitely think I've like I said, growing up shy, and then as I got into retail and sales, um just speaking to people and knowing how to handle different personalities.
SPEAKER_02For me, it's the same thing, especially public speaking and being able to like talk to anybody that I've never met before, just going up to them. I was never like that growing up. I was just always like quiet, reserved to myself. I was the guy everyone knew, but like no one really knew, you know what I mean? Exactly. And uh now I can go up to anyone, any crowd, and talk and do my thing. And I used to shake when I used to public speaking at at the university and stuff, but now it's just like second nature.
SPEAKER_01Be very versatile, try the one-stop shop. If you have to call six different shops, you can deal with one person.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, kind of adapted like a second small slogan where it's like nowadays we just say we don't say no, and we'll go to the you know, every percentile of any situation to try to find that customer, their need. You know, majority 99 out of 100, we can handle it, or like I said, at least point them in that direction. Um, but yeah, we definitely want to be that one-stop shop. You don't have to call around, you don't have to guess. Um, yeah, that's definitely what we like to.
SPEAKER_01There's some aspects of it too with fleet customers, too. If we can't do it, then we'll at least manage the repair for them. Yep.
SPEAKER_02For for dubs, it's uh just about being different. Uh we're different in the aspect of 95% of our menu is homemade. Uh 90% of our menu is fresh, never frozen. And we use top quality ingredients, we use the best ingredients possible. Um, we don't care how much the ingredients cost, we just like to put out quality on a plate. All the recipes are in-house homemade recipes. We even make our mag bites from scratch. We use fresh green beans, we make our bacon in-house. So it's just that's what separates us. Also, come custom customer service, we're family-based. Uh, everyone knows who we are, everyone knows me, so that's what separates us.
SPEAKER_00I could say start out by um, you know, important person, uh, maybe not everybody's life, but mine, definitely my father, my dad. Um just a hard worker, blue collar, um, military, didn't you know do a lot of schooling, but military hard worker, um, do everything to provide for the family. Um, definitely grew me up on a lot of you know good things, like you know, the more you know, the more you're worth. And uh myself coming out of the company in January, being hired by Sam, I see that every bit with him, you know. The more you the more you know, the more you're worth. And like it's just everything, it just grows from there. So, yeah, definitely my father.
SPEAKER_02For me, it's my mom. My mom growing up, all I can remember is her like everyone's waiting for you to be somebody someday. Everybody knows you're gonna be somebody someday. So that that just resonated a lot and made me have like a fire under my ass to just keep going and going. Um, there's been multiple people in my life who's like changed my trajectory a lot, but definitely the most impactful has been Mom.
SPEAKER_01There's always a way. If you believe in it, there's always a way to make it happen.
SPEAKER_02Me?
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, I mean, as far as that, yeah, one day at a time, one brick at a time, definitely. Yeah, just like you said, believe in yourself and keep going to work every day to like I said, build on something and learn learn something every day to be able to go into that next day and just continue to grow, absolutely, if you believe in it.
SPEAKER_02As long as you're working hard with your hands in your mind and not your mouth, it'll be alright, it'll work out one day.
SPEAKER_00Maybe Heath Ledger. Um definitely um big Batman guy, Dark Knight. Um, you know, definitely great actor. Um yeah, just where his mind was and unfortunate how everything played out. I mean, obviously, most of us hopefully have seen the movie, you know, Joker, the role. I mean, you talk about a person embracing that role, all the stories. Um yeah, definitely like to know a little bit in his mind if he was here today to have a dinner and just be like, man, you killed it. But um, yeah, it's just unfortunate, but yeah, I'd like to know definitely where his head was at.
SPEAKER_02I'll be Gordon Ramsay. Just so I so I can get cussed out, one and two, to pick his mind and see how he owns so many restaurants.
SPEAKER_01I like the water. I like to get on the boat.
SPEAKER_00I like um sports so much, like I mentioned earlier. Um being shy in high school, first thing people say is you know, you played football, what'd you do? I didn't play football, unfortunate. Um, but I have found another love um last year. This year, I'm in the SGFOA. Uh I am a high school um official for football. Um I love, you know, with understanding of lack of officials, obviously, with you know, you can see videos in different parent situations. Um being this kind of business doesn't bother me. So I love the industry to give back to the you know the kids. It's staying physical, active, a good group of guys, um, and yeah, being a high school football official. It's like I said, great to give back. And um, to me, it doesn't seem like an extra job after work because I just love you know sports and football so much. So that's definitely something that I like.
SPEAKER_02I like to get out on the water, I just don't have a boat.
SPEAKER_00Um I know a guy.
SPEAKER_02Um, but for me it's putting my headphones in and walking. I'll walk for hours.
SPEAKER_01What we do, we try to be fair to everybody.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, whether it's a customer, I mean it's been great lately, a lot of walk-ins, a lot of referrals, a lot of businesses passing on to us. Yeah, it doesn't matter who you are, absolutely, whether it's a fleet, a customer, um, yeah, family, whoever it is, yeah, we definitely want to treat you fair and make it right. Um, yeah, it's what it's all about.
SPEAKER_02For us, we stand by our product. We got a great atmosphere. We have got a lot of TVs, a lot of great employees, servers, staff that will, you know, have you in tears from laughing or whatever it is, um, make you feel like home here and we have great food. So we stand by our product. If you don't like our food, you can tell us. Don't be don't be those guys that go straight to the internet. Just come talk to us, you know, and um be a grown ass person. So that's it. Alright. This was a little weird for me, a little different, but it was nice at the same time. Thank you guys for being on the podcast.
