SPEAKER_05

Speaking about uh sports, why don't we kick off a little bit about uh these amazing Knicks right now and their 2-0 uh 2-0 current standings? How do you feel about this?

SPEAKER_02

Chris Ward, I think uh is Chris Ward having the same dilemma that I'm having right now? I want to believe it, but I'm not there yet. So if you're Met fans, no, no, no, not even Matt. It's not even a Met fan. It's it's well, it's there's a Met connection. There is. It's the Donovan Mitchell factor in this, right? So my worst nightmare as a Nick, lifelong Nick fan, was that Donovan Mitchell would be standing in the way, you know, who we love. We've known Donovan Mitchell since he was a kid. Absolutely, absolutely. Um, friends with uh Donovan Sr. Yes, and Euro Hogans is everyone. Uh remember young Don coming to uh coming to Super Bowl parties in his fifth and sixth grade, and I remember eighth grade, I think was the first time we read Super Bowl party, and he had dunked the first time in his life, and I remember thinking myself, oh, this kid's gonna be a pretty good basketball player. Um, we didn't know he'd become what he became, obviously. It's been remarkable, it's been fun to watch, it's been a joy. Uh, you get so much excitement watching uh this little kid that we wasn't really ever this small, he was a big kid, um, grow up to become an NBA superstar, and uh and it's now crashing into my lifelong dream of watching the Knicks maybe win a championship. And so I've watched these two games and um I just want it to be over. Um I want the Knicks, I want Donovan to do well, I want the Knicks to win, but uh I can't really enjoy either side of it.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's it's it's tough. Obviously, there's a personal connection with him and the family, and um however, um my concern is that, and like you said, you want it to be over. Yeah, they cannot let this drag on. They need to at least go at least the Knicks need to go in there and at least split. Because if it's too all coming back to New York, no, it's not gonna be too all closed. Stop stop.

SPEAKER_02

Now we're gonna talk about the Knicks. They have no reason not to sweep this. Like they're so much better. The Cavs after Don Mitchell are not a very good basketball team at all. I don't think it'd be a 500 team without him or without like any of the.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, just I think they have pieces around him that are they have very good complimentary pieces. Yeah, I don't think they have enough complimentary pieces, I think, to overcome what the Knicks personnel is. I don't. But I'm gonna say this to you both right now, both of you being New York people. Um there's nobody beating San Antonio or Oklahoma City coming out of the East. No one is beating San Antonio or OKC. They are too good. Those two teams are ridiculously good, highly efficient, well coached. I don't see either team losing to anybody, either Cleveland or New York, come to the NBA Finals, and I know that hurts a lot of people's feelings. I think it hurts.

SPEAKER_05

It's time for you to go back to Somerville, okay? Somerville with that nonsense.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, what kind of New Yorker are you? Jesus. I I listen, I I uh I to have the Knicks win the championship would be fantastic for the area and for the people that have lost suffered for a long time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It hasn't happened since 73, the last time in the finals, 1999. Yeah, and and it and and that and Prince had already done the song before 1999. Yeah. So now I would like to see, would it be great for the for the city and the and the people in our area? Yes.

SPEAKER_05

The argument in my house with uh with my son is whether I I I go to the finals or I I sell my tickets, and I was like, hey man, do you know how much floor seats are gonna how much floor seats right now for for the NBA finals? For the NBA finals, what do you think a floor seat cost? I'm gonna say I'm gonna say twelve thousand dollars. For a floor seat next to Spike Lee. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's that's that's forty-five thousand dollars.

SPEAKER_05

All right.

SPEAKER_04

You have those tickets?

SPEAKER_05

No, I do not have those tickets. Okay. If I had those tickets, though, I would definitely sell them and be watching the watching the game at the bar. Right. Okay, from Stout right across the street. Guess how much those tickets are going for? How much? 200,000. Jesus. For NBA finals. So my son's like, there's no way, Dad. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to go to the game. And I'm like, listen, man, if if you throw the right number and I will go to the game, and then I will go across the street and enjoy it while watching it. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. So all the hatred from that can can can come my way. But uh, yes, I look forward to the next being in the finals. So now talking about finals, let's uh let's move on and start the show. Here we go. Welcome to the winning moment show. Uh, we are happy to be back here with my guest and co-host and friends. We have a whole audience behind you guys that you guys cannot see. Uh, we won't name names here, but uh I'm joined on the show by Coach Chris Ward, the famous Kevin Devaney Jr., the hardest working man in Section One. I mean, really, probably in America, but yeah, absolutely uh do that. I'm John Lim, your host. Like you guys to like and subscribe. We are doing very well on our social media. Again, we don't get paid for the social media. We are doing it to give kids more exposure. So if you see the account or you're looking at the account now live on Instagram, share it with friends. Uh, the more people we can have on there, the more exposure we can give these kids, which we're about to do right now. Kevin, why don't we kick us off with your picks for the boys?

SPEAKER_02

We can't, we can't, we can't the biggest news of the week. In high school sports right now, Stepanak. Finally got their finally got their uh penalties for going to Chipotle Nationals. And the only penalty, no students, well, technically no students are gonna be penalized. All they had all these potential sanctions. It was gonna be no travel out of state, no out of state competition for any sport for a school year, uh no playoffs, basketball playoffs, basketball teams at all levels, including the B and the J V and the freshmen, no playoffs, uh probation for two years, and then suspension. In the end, it's just a seven-game suspension for Coach Pat Massaroni, um, which he is uh sort of just saying, okay, I'll just accept it and we'll move on with life, but basically only doing it under the auspices that the league will revisit and revise these rules that prevented it from going. I don't like it. I don't think it's I think seven games is if you're if you're going to change the rules, then why are you giving him his punishment? If you're admitting that the rule needs to be changed, then why are you punishing someone right before you change the so they can change the rule tomorrow, but because he broke it the day before it's a penalty. I I just find it I find it just unnecessary.

SPEAKER_05

Do you think the penalty is too harsh or um I think the penalty is too harsh?

SPEAKER_02

I think three games, four games? Seven games you're talking about. You're into January now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah in your league games. It's it's uh it's 25% of your season in CHS double X. Wait, is it seven league games?

SPEAKER_02

It's five league games, two non-league games. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But they play it, but they play like a 28, is it Kev, it's 28-ish?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, they play that in the end because of uh postseason, but in the regular season games, they made 24. So you're talking about it's a third almost a third of the season. So we're talking about two non-league games, two national champ national uh level games are gonna have. Um and uh there are people around the league that don't feel like that was enough. And uh those people are upset that they didn't get enough. So yeah, this thing is not uh it's not totally done, but uh it's uh it's unfortunate that uh any penalties beyond three or four games need to be uh doled out. Seven games seems like a lot. In the end, by February, that's all be forgotten anyway.

SPEAKER_05

So I mean, listen, the good thing is that none of the kids got punished. The kids going into the school didn't get punished. The potential sanctions were outrageous and shouldn't be mentioned in that scenario.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I think uh I do think they'll think is that yeah, seven games is too much, but if there was anyone that can coach these kids and get them ready and not be on the sidelines and still have a chance to have a successful season, it's it's Pat.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, totally. So I think uh Coach Masterone will have this team uh prepared for the season. He still could practice coaching, you know, he's still gonna do that job. He's just not gonna be on the sidelines for games. They have a great staff um with Lexis Nunez, Al Shepard. They've all been with him for a very long time. Yeah, so they'll they'll be they'll be okay in the game. Although it's tough in games. Sometimes it's different when the headman's not there.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Correct. Wait, the question is as Met fans, do you think that you think that coach pulls uh uh Valentine? I know by Valentine with a little puts the subconscious.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, so you don't use this, it's just it's everything's AI now. So you AI your coach in. That's it. That's it. He's gonna be watching on the feed.

SPEAKER_04

They're gonna pieces to make sure there's no there's no mics in the ear. Like, call a timeout. Call a timeout. Time out time out now.

SPEAKER_02

Change the defense. Just change it up. Totally. So uh um, yeah, it is uh it is it's a little nuts, but they uh it's better what better than what it was initially gonna be, Kevin. I think they just won it over with. I think that's what Coach Pat Maxman he wanted, won it over with, and now it's done. And uh, you know, now we uh can just move on with life, and then our spring tournament is just kind of like a big news item in over the spring season when it wasn't basketball season, but uh it's always step neck basketball season, really. It's like Iona Prep football, step neck basketball. When you're at that level, it is every day. Totally. So uh Iona Lacrosse too.

SPEAKER_05

The lacrosse team is is I mean, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Iona Prep Lacrosse won the uh the intersectional championship, won the city, and won the intersectional. They're going to Buffalo to play for the state championship. Uh Timmy Plunk at 90 goals in the season. It's unbelievable. I'm sorry, 80 goals, 80 goals in the season. Um, but still insane. Uh what he's done. It's unbelievable he's done.

SPEAKER_01

Do they go this weekend, Kevin?

SPEAKER_02

No, I I don't know when they go to Buffalo. I don't think they go on Memorial Day weekend. I think they go, I think they're going after. After? But they this the crazy thing about that is, and the same deal with baseball, Iona Prep and Stepanak both had their graduations yesterday. So many of their athletes, their senior athletes, are graduates of the school. And are still playing the upgrade teams because they don't, yeah, that's it. But there's their summer, their their high school career is over. Um, and the baseball team starts their playoffs next week. That's crazy. So, like Juju Guzman, you know, he's he already has Cap and Gown diploma in his hand. He's gonna be playing shortstop bat and first uh next week. So awesome. Yeah, but uh he's on his way to Maryland, but we'll play a little couple games for Iona before he leaves, hopefully trying to win another championship. That's good.

SPEAKER_01

If they win the city, that's it. They there's they don't play the play.

SPEAKER_02

There has been a state tournament. So they play the the champion out of Long Island, so like Shamanad or whoever's NFT St. Dominic, whoever wins that, right, is in a bracket um with the the New York City, so the Catholic League, the Iona Prep, St. Francis Prep, uh, St. Peter's League, and then there's uh the Monsignor Martin League of Buffalo. Um they're that champion. They've played a tournament in the past. I think they're doing it again. I don't know why they went.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, like how they did in football and basketball.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they do the same thing. Yeah, they do the same thing. Um they're in lacrosse, they're in all sports now, Catholic State fines. That's great. That's awesome. Um, but yeah, for the section, the best the lacrosse tournament is getting going. Um starts up actually on Friday, Friday, Saturday, the two uh first rounds. So most of the top teams are getting buys, they don't play until next week, so they get to spare themselves from this bad weather on Saturday. But uh, you know, the the Boys La Crosse tournament ended pretty much how we expected it to. I mean, the regular season ended it with teams being heavy favorites. So in our first class, class A, Mamarinick, they go into the postseason number one seed. They're 9-0, 13-3 overall. Uh their three losses have been by a combined five goals. They lost by a goal to Darien, a golden Manhasset, and then by three to New Canaan in the game that was actually kind of closer than that. They were up on New Canaan. They've won eight in a row, four-hour against class AA schools uh this season. They won those gains by a 74 to 10 margin. So like none of them were close. Insanity. No, Brian Auker, who we're gonna talk about later, he's uh 62 goals. There's just so much depth in this team. I think they have six players with 40 points or more. So between goals and six. That's incredible. Yeah. Um Carson Winners with uh 31 goals. He's second on the team with Brian Auker. Um, and then Jude Meiser, 27 goals. And so they're the clear favorite. And then if you ask me who's the biggest threat, I don't know if anyone's a threat. I don't know if you can say anyone's a number. I mean, whoever they face in the championship, it would not be a surprise.

SPEAKER_01

You said six with 40 points plus. I believe that's what it is, yeah. That's like having seven, six, seven guys, eight guys that average almost a double double figures in basketball.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, who you pick your poise. Yeah, you're gonna be. That's coach's favorite teams. His favorite team is when when the ball is distributed properly.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, no one drops 25, everyone drops 15.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

If you're gonna pick a Cinderella from this, I guess it's gonna be White Plains, the number two seed. And and you know, I think it's you know, Mark Armagita, what they've done this program and and the way they've grown, three players with 70 points or more. So they have scored a lot of goals. They have not faced obviously as tough a schedule as Memarinick. Chris LaRosa leads the team 47 and 27. Um Patrick Dooley's 49-24, and Andy Ryan's 24 and 47 assists. So those three guys are right neck and neck with each other in terms of uh the points they put up this season. If you ask me who's gonna go in the championship, I'll take Memarinick. And I'm gonna have against Scarsdale. I think Scarsdale's schedule, I think the Scarsdale, White Plains, if White Plains is able to win that game, that'd be a huge thing for the program, especially considering that the proximity of these schools, the rivalries they have in different sports. Of course. And uh so, but I think Scarsdale is just a little more battle-tested and uh ready to.

SPEAKER_01

And White Plains, traditionally, Kevin and John, has not been where they are now. This this coach has done a fantastic.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he has, he really has, and they've Unreal. And they've uh again, they have not faced this tough a schedule, but they've been continuing to build over time. And uh I think what Section One did this year with lacrosse with the power league and you know, allowing schools to play the more competitive schedule and not really affect their seating and allow teams like White Plains to go and have, you know, 15 wins in a season and just kind of build the culture of a program, it's it's been a good thing. I think the sport is in a very good place considering, you know, the uh the very clear socioeconomic challenges of the sport. You know, you have your higher income communities are very good on the cross because it's a it's a sport that sort of requires it um with between travel and equipment and training. The equipment, the equipment's crazy.

SPEAKER_05

My son broke his stick and I was like, Yeah, you better get some crazy glue.

SPEAKER_02

What are you doing? So yeah, it is it is a sport that is uh it's it's tough in that regard, but uh White Plains has continued to improve the program and uh they're in a good spot. But memorinick to me is the team to beat. You know, Yorktown is in class B, uh, the team to beat. I think they knock off Horace Greeley in the championship after losing to them last year. But um, it's gonna be a little closer than we thought. You know, they're 9-3 in section one. Their losses are Somers, Memarinick, and Rye. Um, again, another team with great balance on the stat sheet. Uh Frankie O'Frias leads the team, 35 goals. JT Carney has been so solid, you know, as a distributor and finisher as well. Uh, and they had the best goalie in section one in Hunter Mesatesta, uh, all-time leader in saves. So, you know, they have the pieces. Um Greeley, though, poses the challenge. I mean, and you know, the question all year for Greeley was do they have the depth of scoring around um around their their main guys, Luke Desi and Thomas Pollard? And um we're seeing that emerge a little bit more in the last few games in the last week or so. Um and they only lost by a goal to Yorktown back on uh April 29th.

SPEAKER_01

And and and I want to go back to Yorktown for a second, and now I'm gonna move ahead to uh Greeley. Kev, you're talking about a Yorktown team that possibly has has lost will lose of those three games between Rye and Somers, they might be state champions. Yeah, Mamarinick might be state, so they might might have lost those three losses or potential state championship level programs. Yeah, and those games are all close. And then going back to Greeley, who's the X factor for who needs to show up for Greeley other than Pollard and Desi? Who who's who's your guide that you think, you know, if this kid shows up or he's coming along this year, who's the guy that can upset the Apple cart and beat them in the section final?

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna still I'm gonna say it has to be Desi. I think Desi needs Desi Um last year in the championship, they went on a run in the second half where they won the face-off, scored the goal. I mean, we're talking about uh scoring within seconds of each other, you know, less than 20, 30 seconds. Wow. And that was all because of just speed and ability to finish. And Luke Desi is the guy that's gonna have to do that. So if they're gonna win, it's gonna, it's gonna require a seven-goal game from Luke Desi. It's gonna be tough, though. It's gonna be too much. And it's hard to say that because they only won 9-8. And so you're talking about seven goals against the best goalie in the section. Right. Right. That's gonna be tough on kind of brilliant uh for them to.

SPEAKER_01

He's gonna have to, he's gonna have to give a Herculean effort.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and it and I don't want to, I hate putting on one guy, but he has the potential to to to take over a game like that. So it's gonna require winning face-offs and scoring goals quick. Because so much of a of a Yorktown Greeley game is I don't say it's mental, but it's it's it's momentum and it's it's getting into the heads of and getting a lead on Yorktown. Um, and you can't if if if Yorktown gets up even three three nothing four-one, they're not gonna win, they're not gonna lose. They're not gonna lose.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I mean, listen, their goal, their goal is light, lights out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and their defense is great. So they I just you know they could play a lower scoring possession style game and grind you out. And grind you out. And the reason why they they can't you can't do that against Rice Somers and Amerinick because they just don't let you, uh, because the physicality that they have. But Greeley is not gonna be able to kind of physically over be overmatch them physically the way the other teams can. So um that's where getting ahead early and and kind of playing the momentum game is key for Greeley.

SPEAKER_05

Is there is there a Cinderella here in your class B?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I'll take, you know, the I mean it's weird to say the number three seeds Brewster as the number Cinderella, but I guess you're gonna have to say them. They have one of the best uh goal scorers in Luke Cunningham. He's put up 98 points in the season. Amazing. Uh 42, 50, great full goal score. He's more assists, 56 assists. So he's one of the great playmakers um in the section. I think he's fourth in the section. Loh did uh their updated stats this week. Mike Darty does an amazing job of tracking his. He does a great job. He does a great job. So um credit to him. All these numbers we're giving you are all taken off the Lo Hud. Um, and I appreciate Mike because the amount of time to do that to track it down. Absolutely. Um, so but uh they won their final six games to go 12 and 4 in the year. Great year for Brewster. Listen, they're a notch below Yorktown and Greeley, but uh they're they're not that far off. And uh Cunningham's, again, one of those guys he can take you over. So I think if you're Yorktown, you're kind of happy Brewster's on the other side. Get Brewster on the other side of the bracket. Let Greeley and Brew duke it out in the semis, and uh you kind of roll onto the championship.

SPEAKER_01

Kevin, is Luke Cunningham a face-off guy or or you know, where he can get it, control it, and then go score with it?

SPEAKER_02

Not like that. No. Okay. No, no, he's not. Okay. So um, but he's he's definitely one of the guys, you know, he's uh this just a controls like a point guard, very controlling of a game. You know, they get they get possession and he's he's the guy. So it's gonna be a matter of getting the ball out of a stick. That's the it's the key for anyone that faces Bruce. Mate, give it up and not let him get it back. Uh class C, this is the most interesting one. This is, you know, this is the season now. This is the revenge season for Rye, right? So they lose to Somers last year in the championship, and their run of championships ended. And, you know, Rye had had won the section, not been able to win the states. They watched Somers beat them, and then Somers was on and wins the state championship. So for Rye, that's tough. And it there's so much, there's so many competitive athletes on this Rye team that play multiple sports, and it's a it's a unique spot for them to be in because in football, it was all about the showdown with Somers, and it was like whoever wins this game is gonna win the state championship. And it's exactly how and there was really no favorite in that game. They're kind of like, you know, 1A, 1B, right? Um, and then you had basketball, they go into basketball. Nobody thought they were gonna win. I mean, I did. Nobody really thought they were gonna win the uh we didn't pick, we didn't pick Ryan. Yeah, I think so I like Rye. Um, and Rye goes and wins the championship, but they were, you know, obviously, you know, they had to pull a couple upsets to do so, beat Suffren, beat Clarkson North, these a lot of these same kids, and Shoemaker and Miller, the main guys. Um, they do that, they win that championship. To pull off this three P would be pretty amazing. Unbelievable. They are they're they're a considerable favorite considering that they beat Somers back on March 28th. Remember what March 28th? It was freezing cold. I remember disgusting.

SPEAKER_01

We were here, it was freezing. The wind was blowing off the what's the piece of water over here, the Long Island Sound.

SPEAKER_05

Long Island Sound, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was blowing off the Long Island Sound, absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

12-4 win over Somers back that night. Uh decisive win. So all the pressure on the world is on Rye now, which Somers loves. Yeah, of course. Because Somers has done nothing but improved since then. Tristan the Glacius, Cam Vilanti. Now remember, Cam Vylante was injured the first matchup. He was also injured the basketball season, also injured in the football season, so he didn't get to play that. So uh Somers, you know, has you know a little chip on their shoulder going to this now, and they're loving that that Rise kind of everyone's pick to win. Um Somers gets a very rarely, these last five years in in most sports, been been an underdog like this. So these athletes are uh excited for that. They've won five out of six going to the playoffs, and so it's gonna be one of these two teams that wins.

SPEAKER_01

And then we're talking about John, Kevin. Two months ago, yeah, that game took place. Yeah, I'm sure that Somers, with their coaching and their players, have evolved and improved tremendously. And I know that they're probably uh uh slobbering it the bit to get another shot at Rod.

SPEAKER_02

Jordan Hirsch is uh has a lot of uh locker room co locker room stuff to use. He loves doing that.

SPEAKER_01

And Coach Hirsch is uh we as we know personally, he's a he's a massive. Master manipulator psychologically of getting his kids ready to play.

SPEAKER_05

Yep. Listen, when you're the underdog, you have so much power to get motivated to that case, especially to Kevin's point where Rye is having a year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Right? They're having a year across the board. And it's it's yeah, there's a lot of motivation for Somers to come out.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. Uh the Cinderella team in this is going to be John Jay Cross River. They're the fourth seed. They gave Rye the toughest game in the regular season of anybody, including Somers, 10-7 loss. So they're they're kind of right there with them. That was back on April 16th. So they have a great goalie. Blake O'Callahan, third in the area in save percentage. Very impressive. 68%, 68.5%. And then uh James Tese, who I think is going to be maybe one of the best athletes in the section next year. Um in uh in in football on the cross. To a junior, yeah, junior. Yeah. I mean a sophomore. And uh he has 56 points in the season. Wow. So uh Jay is a threat uh to to um to Rye in that semifinal if the two teams advance. Jay's got to be Byram Hills and Rai's gonna win. So um, yeah, I think Rye will be there. Jay should be there, and uh that'll be a good matchup. I think it'll be a little underrated uh matchup in that one. In the championship, though, I have Rye playing Somers, and uh I think Rye does it. I think Rye pulls this off, wins all three seasons.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna I'm gonna say this to both of you now. Whoever wins the section championship, yeah, probably gonna win the state championship.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think it's a fair it's a fair bet.

SPEAKER_01

This is this is the de facto state championship in our area in order to get out and win the overall state championship.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. They'll get over it.

SPEAKER_01

They'll get over it. Don't get me go into Class D.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. Um, where uh also pretty competitive. You know, we thought Bronxville all year long was gonna be the team at the end, but uh Pleasantville beat them in the regular season. They're uh on a seven-game winning streak, started the season now and three, and uh they've come back, won seven in a row, and um including a 11-8 win over Bronxville. So that game was all about the face-off and uh David Hudzzinski just uh getting the job done, getting the possession, and uh letting this this depth of uh playmakers that they have in this pleasant. Let's get to numbers. I know the numbers are incredible. Brian Daugherty, 50 goals, Brady Feeney, 39 goals, George Kenny 37 goals, and of course Mateo Petrichone leads the team in points with 33 goals and 44 assists, 77 points. So he's uh you know, they have all the pieces up top. I mean, this team last year uh made it to the section final, losing uh um, you know, that great senior class they had the year before that went to the state final four. Uh, but uh they have the pieces now to get back to that state final four. I don't think they can win a state championship, but uh, you know, they are they're right there. They've uh re-emerged as the uh favorite. Bronxville, the biggest threat, of course, uh, rebounded from beating Pleasantville, losing to Pleasantville. Uh, they beat Westlake Putt Valley, so they're, you know, they're right in the mix there again. They're kind of in a good spot. A lot of these, a lot of these lacrosse players also play in the football team that won a state championship. Um, Nick Martinelli has 64 points in the season. Uh Patrick Plunkett, 32 goals, and then Landon Hammerling has just been terrific in goal. They have a lot of football players on defense that are just the physicality of the defense. I was a little surprised they beat Pleasant that they lost to Pleasantville the way they did. Um, so I think round two could be interesting to see if that how that game changes and uh you know what they have up their sleeve.

SPEAKER_05

But we say it all the time. It's it's it's face-offs, right? You win the face-off, you control the game, and most likely if you win the most face-offs, you win the game.

SPEAKER_01

Kevin, was was the Pleasantville first Pleasantville Bronxville game more of a speed game where it was more finesse and they were able to move the ball and take advantage of maybe turnovers and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Unfortunately, I I kind of didn't tune in because I didn't think it was gonna be close. I thought Bronxville was gonna just kind of handle them. Right. Um, and when I saw it was close, I was I tuned in. Um what I saw, it was a lot of just Pleasantville having the ball. I mean, it was a lot of Pleasantville possession. Um Martinelli, they they really limited Martinelli's uh uh ability to kind of you know dodge and get to the cage. I mean, that's you that's his game, and he's able to finish. And uh, you know, they really limited his ability to to kind of get into the circle. So I don't think um that's gonna be a tough thing to do again. Um, you know, he didn't really get as close as he as he's as he's able to. So um I think the physicality of the defense is gonna be the key for the that's my whole thing.

SPEAKER_01

I think uh and my thing for Bronxville is I want to make this as physical a game as possible. Make it a football game. Right. I that's exactly why you're you're you're hitting the nail on the head. You make it a football game, get a football game, get Bronxville all the all the edge there. Seven, seven to five, like a seven to five type of deal, yeah. Six to four type of deal, like an ugly, yeah, mixed it up type of match.

SPEAKER_05

But you don't need it though, because again, it goes down to face-offs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, totally. So uh the Cinderella team is gonna have to be Wesley. Wesley almost didn't make the playoffs. Uh they had to win two of their final three games to get into the playoffs with this talented team. They obviously play an extremely difficult schedule. They get a they got a 0.5 added to their index um automatically because of the league they play in, um, which is a it's a hefty number, but they still have to qualify and they had to win two of their final three games to do that. So they do that, they get in. Um they have a terrific uh dynamic goal score. Another football player in Nikki Denapoli, who was a quarterback in football, 61 goals, 37 assists on the season. That puts him fifth in points in the region. So he's been uh he's been terrific. So they're a sixth seed, they're gonna face Irvington in the uh in the quarterfinal next week. I think they beat Irvington, and I think they, you know, they go on and they give Bronxville a challenge. I think they, you know, I think they they're a little bit of a scary matchup in that regard. But uh also wanted to shout out, we got to shout out Vahala. First year program. They're playing today in their uh their matchup. Uh they're playing against Haldane. They play double overtime when they play in the regular season. So they should be a good matchup today. Um, but AJ Pesci, 67 goals, 24 assists. Jeez. Um in their first year of the program?

SPEAKER_05

First year of the program.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's not the first time playing Le Cross. No, it's not, of course not. But for him to have 91 points uh in a first-year program, it's uh it's pretty remarkable. So he's he's been he's been awesome. Um and uh you know, congrats to Vahal on a great season. Championship, this is the pretty much I you know I'm picking the favorites. I'm picking Ryan, I'm picking Yorktown, I'm picking Amerinick. I might pick Bronxville here. I think round beating Bronxville again is gonna be really difficult. I think Bronxville beats Pleasantville the second time around. I think they may have to figure out the face-off thing, which if they don't figure if you know you'll know early on, if they're not winning face-offs early, if David Hazinski's, you know, he gets gets into that groove, it's it's hard to beat him. Um he's as good as there is in the section. Um if they're able to figure out the face-off situation, I think Bronxville's gonna see the edge back and they win.

SPEAKER_01

I think that Bronxville, like I said, makes it a football game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I think on initial face-off, if it's a loose ball, it comes down to who gets that ground ball off the loose ball. Yep.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's all about physicality. Well, the great news is we will actually be covering the championships live on location uh there together, and uh we'll see if your picture will actually run.

SPEAKER_02

So all the games be on sports engine, obviously. We'll do the full productions of those. Um all championship games, including Saturday's Flag football championships, be on Sports Engine as well as uh Boys and Girls of Club.

SPEAKER_01

So that's Capital S and Capital E on your phone. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Uh download the app, you can watch all the games. Absolutely. Yeah, it's worth the monthly free.

SPEAKER_01

I I've even been well, I've had assistance with downloading the app. Yes, of course, yes.

SPEAKER_05

Watch the games, come see the games, we'll be there. Uh it's gonna be a lot of fun, whether whether or not.

SPEAKER_02

All right. Uh wanna go girls, girls, yeah. Absolutely. Some of the boys in that there's some clear-cut favorites, including in class A was Suffron, number one seed, defending champions, lost to Nyak in the final week of the regular season. 13-10 actually was a better game than I thought. I thought Nyak, not uh I mean, obviously Suffron's talented team, but I thought Nyak, the way they've been playing, had was gonna kind of separate themselves more from everyone in the section, but they just they haven't. So um Suffron played them well, and uh Nevin Sullivan, that's all it is. You talk about uh you know face-offs and uh and uh draws in uh girls across control. Uh the draws, Nevin Sullivan is as good as there is in the section. So um as long as she's taking those draws, Suffron gets possession and they're tough to beat. Now, obviously, shot clock changes things. Um years years ago, there was a championship game. I remember watching Suffron against Wappingers, and Suffron had a one-goal lead and sat on the ball. They won, kept winning the face, they won the faceoff, sat on the ball for the final like four or five minutes. That's off. I remember watching the production, uh, the championship on uh on then local live and hearing the Wappingers parents just screaming uh about this. And uh they got their wish, they got the shot clock, so that changes things. But uh to me, Suffering is just far and away the best team. So uh their biggest threat is that Wappager's team at number two. Um they got a good draw. Suffering and memoric on the other side of the uh of the bracket. They got a great draw. Um they lost to memarinick 18-11 in the regular season. So they don't have to face memoric, they're the five seed memoric. Um Ava Feliciato has been so good. Um and then the thing that I've noticed with with um with Wappagers all season and when they post their stats, they've had several different players doing draws. And to me, that's by design. That to me says they're preparing, if not relying on one player to do it, um, and they're going to try out different players and see how it goes.

SPEAKER_01

If they make it that jabby, and if somebody is is is doing well and they got it going at the draw control, yeah, one of those one of these three young ladies that you're gonna mention is gonna stay on draw control throughout most of the years.

SPEAKER_02

Mackenzie Cruz, Brooke Cameron, um, and Morgan Jackson have all had put up, you know, have won draws this season, and uh I think that's gonna they're gonna ride the hot hand.

SPEAKER_05

Do you think it's do you think it's the hot hand or do you think it's more like uh like like in baseball? Lefty, lefty, righty, right? No, I don't know. I think it's gonna be a hot hand.

SPEAKER_02

I can too. I haven't seen it firsthand to say uh for sure, but just just the indication is that they have been they've been working. This is a big uh factor uh for them to have a chance to win a sexual championship. Because Nevin Sullivan's second.

SPEAKER_05

Well, if they make the finals, we will uh we will see it live. Yeah, we will. Yeah, we will.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Lakeland Patterns is my Cinderella team as a 10 seed. They gotta face Clarkstown South or Clarkstown as a number seven seed. And uh if they win that, they don't lost Wappingers by a goal. So if they get that uh 10-2 matchup, it's gonna be interesting. Wappingers.

SPEAKER_01

That's not gonna be the um the layup 10-2 matchup like it normally does.

SPEAKER_02

We gotta get there first, of course, beat Clarkstown. But uh so to me, Suffron wins the championship. I think they beat Wappingers. I think Wappinger survives, gets to the final, and uh Suffron ultimately wins another championship in Class A. Uh Class B, Nyack number one seed, defending state champions were. I don't mean to laugh, but yeah. Well, they won Class C state championship last year. So moving up to Class B is a little different story, but uh they move up, they should be the section champion this year, um, number one seed, and uh no real reason to think otherwise.

SPEAKER_01

Uh why are you laughing?

SPEAKER_05

What was your laughing for?

SPEAKER_01

Because I'm I saw where the biggest threat to them, and Kevin's gonna talk about it, wasn't really a it wasn't really a Well it's Yorktown.

SPEAKER_02

Yorktown's the biggest threat, it's the three seed. Yes. And they played each other in the regular season in Nyak, beat them 17-11. Um this Yorktown defending Class B champions in Section One, obviously, because Nyak and Rye were in Class C. Um, so they go from being defending champions with a young core, basically a lot of players back to now being a severe underdog, um, which is just to be a product of the alignment change for Nyak. Um but Sydney Satrielli, eight goals against Pelham, uh, six goals against Pleasantville, the sophomore, just so talented. Anything can happen in a championship game. I know, but I mean Casey you want to bet against Casey Cummings. I know, or Abby Gould. No, definitely. Abby Gould. I mean Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I thought you were laughing though because you were uh you were gonna bring out Kevin's Rockland County bias. No, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

I have to bring my plastic thingy to get across over there, and then we go from there. Velcro's onto the windshield. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

Somebody could coach an easy pass.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Uh Fox Lane's the Cinderella, despite being the number two seed, 15 and one and the two seed in the Cinderella, but you have to say so because they haven't faced the schedule at night, and Yorktown played. Um their only loss was to White Plains, 9-8. So um they don't have the resume, but they do have quality wins over Mamarinick, Brewster, Somers. But Fox Lane to me is the you know, I'd be surprised if uh they were able to pull off the upset against Yorktown in the semis, but uh, you know, so they they they're they're a confident group. And uh Dylan New and they have uh, you know, uh Cormore, so they have they have great talent. I don't think the depth of talent, though, to to compete.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, Cormore gives you an opportunity to win any match that you're on the field.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I think that's a good thing.

SPEAKER_05

Nyak is is they're just way too tight.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think a Nyak Yorktown final and a Nyak win. Yeah, I I I I go with that too. Um, you know, C is, you know, we'd say heavy favorite Rye is number one. They're the number one team. Um, the door is open now for with Nyak going to Class B for them to reclaim the Class C championship, which I think they will. Annie Toulouse um it's been really underrated, four goals um against Urslin. And then on a given day, anybody on Rye can lead the team in squad. I mean, anyone can have three or four goals. And uh, you know, between Mia Housen, Bo Whaling, Mary Everlyn, uh, Stella Moresca, obviously Paige Ebonino's back. So this team's just so much depth, so much talent. It's gonna be tough for any of these teams in class C to compete with them. But, you know, the biggest threat is gonna be Pelham as the uh number two seed, lost to Rye 15-7 in the season opener. So again, Rye Boys beat Somers the season opener back in March. Way back when it's almost like two months ago. Doesn't count. I don't remember what March 23rd. I know I remember that Saturday night Somers Rye game was like because it was just dreadful weather. I assume it was cold back on March 23rd as well. It was.

SPEAKER_05

It might have been snowing, it was snowing around St. Patrick's.

SPEAKER_02

Just been just physically overmatching every defender that she's gone up against. Um they've won 10 out of 11. And the thing is, you know, we can we could say they lost, oh, they lost the Rye 15-7. They only lost a Nyack by a goal uh in the last two weeks. So So that that's what I'm saying. This is not the same team as it was. So Pelham to me is uh a legitimate threat. Uh it's a Rye. Cinderella team is Easchester. I uh all the year I've been to Easchester, graduated in 1998. I don't ever remember them having a first of all, I don't remember them having a girls across team, um, but not a very good one like this. Number three seed, uh, 13-3 on the year. Uh it's been a huge jump for this program in general for what they've done. Um, and their only losses uh were to teens by a combined 36 wins. So they're all double-digit win teams.

SPEAKER_01

I've been here for 24 years. I don't ever remember anybody ever mentioning East Chester Girls Across. No.

SPEAKER_02

Ever.

SPEAKER_01

No. 24 years. Until now, until now.

SPEAKER_02

They'll get that semifinal. They should get to the semifinal and face Pelham uh, you know, school down the road, down the hutch, and uh and and face off in the uh I don't know if they can beat them, but I think they challenge them a little bit more than people think.

SPEAKER_01

Probably, but I think Ramby has something to do with it at the end. Yeah, Rambi is Ramby, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Uh coach, 20 24 years in New York, and and you're still rooting for our next to loose. Jesus. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

We gotta listen, guys. That was that was an inaccurate statement, Claudio. Yeah. No, I think. Claudio is good at a video tape. That was an inaccurate statement.

SPEAKER_05

Little Warner Wolf? Warner Wolf. Absolutely. Bring it back to the video tape? Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

So Rye, I'll take Rye to win, uh beat Pellham, but I think it'll be closer again than 15-7.

SPEAKER_01

I think it'll be I think it'll be two goals one way or the other. Wow, okay. Interesting. Uh Class D.

SPEAKER_02

So you're taking Rye or you're taking Pelham? Taking Rye.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Class D is interesting. Pleasantville, clear cut number one. Uh they were 13-0. They're now 13-3. Lost their final three games of the regular season. But we talked about this that they were really weren't challenged at the first 13 games, and they were very much challenged in their last three against Yorktown, Rye, and Pelham. So uh three quality opponents lost all three.

SPEAKER_01

Were the were they relatively close?

SPEAKER_02

No, the last two, Pelham and Rye were not uh close. I think Yorktown was the closest of the of the three, um, and if I remember correctly. And so, you know, they they've got to get back on track, but I think this was probably a good thing for them to get themselves prepared for a section championship run and maybe even a state title run because um they have the talent to to do both. And the number one, the biggest threat and is also the Cinderella is the number seven seed Bronxville. So Bronxville plays this impossible schedule for a Class D school, and uh none of the other Class D schools within Pleasantville uh really play anybody remotely as as as tough as Pleasant as Bronxville does. So they played only and the other thing is they only played 13 games. So they they're allowed 16. They didn't play three, they should have picked up three Section One games uh against a competition within their class just to kind of boost their record a little bit, but they didn't. Um and uh they lost five out of six to end the regular season, including an 11-10 loss to Bronxville. Briarcliffe. So Briarcliff's the number two seed, and uh I think beating Bronxville again is gonna be really tough for Bronxville if they if they're able to get there. Bronxville's gonna beat Albertus Magnus in the in the first round. So another team that faces a very difficult schedule. So um I think Bronxville finds a way to beat Briarcliffe and then they play Pleasantville in the championship, and uh I think Pleasantville wins, they beat them in the regular season. But um, to me, that's uh the only literally the only seeding thing that I've noticed in all five sports in the spring. Section one figured out their seating formula so well, and this is the only thing that I was like, uh this only team that seems out of place um of all the teams in the section. So in all sports. So I think uh Bronxville will make the final, beat Briarcliffe in the semis, and uh lose to Pleasantville in the championship.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean and and John and Kevin, Bronxville Girls Lacrosse has got tremendous pedigree, tremendous history, tremendous tradition. Um I I still think Pleasantville is going to, because of their offensive production, I think Pleasantville will outscore them in the final.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_05

No, I think. Yeah, they gotta come with an edge though. You lose three games to end the season. That's a that's that's a bad company.

SPEAKER_01

I think for we know those, we know, we know some of those girls. I think for them it was a a chance to have an eye-opening experience to probably humble them a little bit and say, listen, there's we have work to do, and I'm sure they're gonna be ready for the for the section playoffs to start. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

Listen, man, that's why we uh that's why we play the game. It actually be it would be a great final for have the boys and girls, Pleasantville, Bronxville, Pleasantville, Bronxville. I love when that happens.

SPEAKER_02

Fortunately they're they're on the opposite, you know, one's in the ones in Rockland and one's in uh I know I I liked it more when Westchester, uh when Lakeland and Yorktown hosted the championships. Now it's Nyack, and Nyack's got a great facility, but uh Nyack and Yorktown host it's but fortunately they they put the classes on different days, so they're not gonna be conflicting schedule wise. So A and D and B and C are all kind of opposite with each other.

SPEAKER_01

Right, the boys and girls will conflict, but yeah, different classes. And from Nyack to Yorktown, if you go over the bridge, you go up the what's the Palisade Parkway, you know it's not as far as people think it is. No, it's not plus that GPS helps.

SPEAKER_05

I think uh you're taking the Taconic coach, but yeah, fine. Taconic, yeah, you'll use the GPS in that scenario. Absolutely. Uh we will be covering both of those sports. Yes. Uh so we'll be splitting ourselves, not using Coach's GPS, of course, using our own to get to the games. Uh we'll be there, come out and see us. And uh if you can't make it out, then of course you can watch it on Sports Engine. But it'd be a lot of fun. These games are very fun, and and I I love covering them live on location.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, it's a lot of fun. I we're very uh very welcomed when we come to explain. We saw at the basketball. So it was great.

SPEAKER_01

Everybody's fantastic. Everybody's fantastic.

SPEAKER_05

And section one puts on a great, great championship. I mean, to their credit, to Mr.

SPEAKER_01

Santa Barbara and his group do a fantastic job.

SPEAKER_05

Todd, Daniel, Jesse. They all they do a phenomenal job putting that together, and uh being part of that's gonna be gonna be fun. Speaking about playoff times and another one that we will cover when it comes uh championship time. Kevin, let's move to uh let's do some softball.

SPEAKER_02

Softball playoff brackets were out. Um Class AAA is by far the most wide open class. Um actually, I shouldn't say they're all pretty wide open. I don't know if there's a clear favorite um like head like lacrosse. Like it's not the same. Um, but in triple A has the most teams that guy would not shock me if they won. I could I could see any one of six teams winning. Um North Rockland's gotta be the they've dominated. They haven't given up a run the last four games. Uh Tara Murphy has been so good at the plate and and obviously as a as a pitcher. She's put four straight shutouts together, and North Rockin' is talking about a team that's just on a on an ascension here. So they get to be the number one seed, they get to avoid um having to beat, you know, they're gonna have to beat catching more white planes in the semis, and then probably have to face Clarkson South or Arlington in the championship. But uh they don't have to run a complete gauntlet compared to the other teams. So um it's one last game, I guess is what we'll say. It'll be the number one seed. So uh North Rockin to me is the is the clear favorite that they're gonna get back, and they're gonna play their they play the championship at North Rockland. So um that gets a little home field there. The biggest threat is uh, as I said, everybody. It's like everybody, everybody in the bracket is a threat because you know you could say Clarkstown South, number two, Arlington three. These teams all beat each other, catch them white planes, all beat each other in the regular season. And then you have number seven, Mamarinick, who didn't really beat anybody, but they kind of competed with everybody. So they're also a threat. So I don't think there's any team that's a that's a rollover in this bracket. Umarinick is a Cinderella team, I guess, as a seven seed, they can on the on the right day can can knock off anybody. But if you ask me the championship, I'll take a North Rockland, Clarksdown South, all Rockland final, and North Rockland wins.

SPEAKER_01

If rock if North Rockland gets to the final and it's a nice sunny day over in beautiful Thiels, New York. Yeah, that gorgeous turf complex. That place will be rocking.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it'll be good. Uh they always draw a good crowd for softball for the championships. It's a great venue. I encourage anybody um to head over there and uh and check out the facility there because it's what they've done, just tour the campus. It's uh it's pretty awesome. It's very impressive.

SPEAKER_05

It might be number one, number one in the section.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I think it's maybe number one in the state. I don't tell you I if you see the aerial views that they just put out, um, Dr. uh Chris Felicello, their superintendent, he says he's done an amazing job of just having a plan of of renovating the whole campus, and it's um unbelievable. So um they've done a great job, and uh they're gonna maybe add a championship to their to their collection in their first season with the new field. Plan at home, playing it home. Class double A is one that could be could be pretty wild. So E Shess is the number one seed. Um, they are the favorite, we'd say. Um just Because the fact that they are the number one seed. And also when you look at the bracket, it's Yonkers and Saunders. They get a bye in the first round. There's no 16 seeds. So that's saves them right there. Then they play the winner of the way the seeds worked out, Yonkers and Saunders. So we're talking about two of the Yonker City teams and getting to face one of them. Now they've they beat Saunders 4-0. So it wasn't like it was a they blew him out. But um it's a it's an advantage, right? So they looking like they're gonna just kind of get to the quarterfinals and then the fun starts because you're gonna have the to me, the biggest threat to Easchester, the biggest threat to winning is Urslin. It's still the number five seed, two narrow losses, an extra inning loss um to Easchester, and then a walk-off loss the other time. So that's scary. If it to beat for Easter to have to beat Urslin three times is gonna be it's gonna be a pretty hard to beat a team three times.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because we all know. Some of us know firsthand.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, it is, Coach. So uh I want to bring it up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so but uh I listen, my uh my concern, Kevin and John, is for Eastchester, they're so young. Yeah. And and what does that do? What is their psyche if there's another Ursuline?

SPEAKER_02

Well, it's funny because they're they're so young, but Sabrina Cosgrov, there's their sophomore pitcher. Um, she's pitching for two. I said, So she's like so she's she's been so good, and um, she's been part of a this offense that's put up, I think there are over 30 home runs this season. It's like insane how many homes it's crazy. Um and she's been there been their ace for now four years.

SPEAKER_05

She's like when Luca was a rookie coming into the league. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So she's uh she's pitching 12 years old. Her first game she's pitched when she was 12 years old. That's crazy. That is amazing. Um so she's uh she gives him uh uh an Against 18-year-olds.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, against 17 and 18-year-old girls. She's pitching at 12 years old. 12 years old.

SPEAKER_02

Ava Papaleo, by the way, head to Virginia from Ursulin. She's continued to just rake. She's been so good at the plate. So uh Ursulin's scary. Um, the Cinderella teams, any of the double-digit seeds, you can take Rye, number 14, Fox Lane, number 10. Um, you know, that's that's just those are scary matchups, especially when you consider that Fox Lane is gonna face Mayapack, who I think they beat in the regular season. Right. And then Rye's gonna face Yorktown, who they played um as well. So those are none of those are easy matchups. So Easchester again, like Eastchester should look at the rest of this bracket and be like, thank God we don't have this route. Like the first round is gonna be hard for some of these teams. Absolutely. And uh the tournament gets really stutter for Easchester in the quarter.

SPEAKER_01

So just real quick, Ursulin and Eastchester on the same that would make do would they meet in the semifinal? The semifinal semifinals. Semifinals. Yeah. So it'll come down to will Cosgrove be able to neutralize Papaleo in situations where there might be runners on base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's it. I mean, it's really what it is. They they were I think their game, their last game was I think they won extra innings. It was like they scored seven runs in the inning and then ended up winning by by a run. So they ended up like holding on. It was crazy games. So um they have to swing the bat. You know, Easchester is my one criticism. I'm picking Easchester to win, beating Yorktown in the championship. My only criticism of Easchester is that they sort of wait too long in these games to hit you know a couple walk-off home runs. They've had a few seasons. Walk-off wins are hard to do in the postseason. Yes, they are. Um, and so you do it in the regular season, it's hard to kind of keep that up. So they got to swing the bats early in these games more, uh, not rely on to drama late that they've done all season. That that's that tends to run out.

SPEAKER_01

It'll hurt you in postseason.

SPEAKER_02

The class A, Somers is the number one seed, 16-1 in the year. Only loss was the Yorktown. Um, Katie Cole has been awesome. Caitlin Fitz as well. Those two have been swinging the bat really well, especially late in the season. They've been two of the best hitters in the section in the last month. So to me, Somers is the favorites. Uh, Pearl River is the threat. Ashlyn Ryan uh in the circle has been continued to get better and better. Um, Pearl River is in Chris Wolgard, the head coach, has done a great job of going out and putting together as as difficult a schedule as possible to get his team prepared. They ended up surviving it, being the number two seed. Um, you know, the the worry is Albertus Magnus in the quarterfinals potentially is the number seven seed. Albertus obviously moving up after winning a bunch of championships in class B, moving to class A now. So Albertus is a threat. I mean, that's not talking about it. They've been so how long? I mean, they've been good forever always. Yeah, a decade, yeah. So um we're talking about having to beat a team three times again, Pearl River, so it's gonna back against the wall. Um, it's gonna be in that matchup. I think Tap and Z, not a bad spot. Uh as a number six seed, they they kind of had a little bit of a stumble late in the season. Uh, but Haley Arvidson gives them a chance every time as a hitter and as a pitcher. So um TZ is kind of lurking there as a number six seed. I do think it gets to be a Pearl River Somers Championship. I think Pearl River wins. I think uh Pearl River beats Albertus, and that momentum is going to carry them through the uh postseason.

SPEAKER_01

I tell you what, that'll be that'll be a great game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, definitely. Uh Class B, another wide open uh playoffs. Dobbs Ferry is the number one seed. You know, Hastings came in, returned pretty much everybody from a championship team, but Dallas Ferry beats them twice in the regular season. And uh Cameron Addis is uh leading the way. Uh, had a great senior season for them for Cameron. So Dallas Ferry's the number one seed. Biggest threat has got to be Haldane is the number two seed. They went 15-5. Allegra Clemenson um has gotten so good uh in the circle pitching. I mean, just uh uh pitching uh the way she did against Tuckahoe, one-nothing win against them, and uh she's a 40 B game. Yeah, it's that wood. So head to head, um, she's answered the bell. So Allegra's been uh terrific. The Cinderella team, I'm gonna give it to Hastings as you're Cinderella defending champions with everybody back. And what makes Hastings so dangerous is the fact that they won dramatic games last year, including that section championship. Um so for them to uh to kind of walk it off the way they did and and win the way they did. Um it's uh you know, they're they've done it before. So to me, that makes them very dangerous. Um my prediction for a championship, I'm gonna say it's gonna be uh Dobbs Haldane, and I'm gonna take I'm gonna go talk, I'm gonna go Dobbs. I think Dobbs has proven it throughout the course of the season that they've uh they've put all the pieces together. They're probably the most complete team of all the teams of Glass Bay.

SPEAKER_01

I I'm gonna. Coach, what do you what do you think about this? I think I think if Allegra Clemenson, if she's on the bump, and and she gets off to a great start, gets ahead and the count against Dobbs Ferry, the longer that game goes, where Dobbs Ferry's bats stay, you know, are neutralized, and they give Haldane hope, I think Haldane can pull the upset.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Uh okay. Listen, uh, that's uh that's why we play the game, and we will also be there, coach. So if those two teams are there, uh, you know, whoever loses uh between you and Kevin, you guys will buy dinner that night. Works out good for us, Claudia.

SPEAKER_01

Now, do I buy dinner for Kevin Devaney himself or do I have to buy for all the Devaney family?

SPEAKER_05

Well, that's a different story. You gotta buy for you gotta buy for everybody that's there. All of our all of our interns, all of the family.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have to buy for the kids and Mrs. Devaney and and uh Kevin?

SPEAKER_05

Listen, there's five of them. That's a lot.

SPEAKER_01

And they they eat. The Devaneys like that. The kids they're they they're they're gonna eat now. Growing, growing children. Growing children. Bring the right credit card coach. Bring the right credit card. I'll bring the right credit. I'll bring I'll bring the credit.

SPEAKER_05

The one that's like, you know, bounces the metal one, not the plastic one. You know which one you're talking about. Yeah, I do know which one.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

All right, moving right along to what has become uh my favorite segment of our show this spring and your favorite segment of the show, considering all of the the attraction and love that we get on Instagram and YouTube for our uh our top 10 honor roll. Uh, it's been really great. Shout out to our our team for all the graphics. They've done a phenomenal job putting this together. And shout out to our research team, okay, who's uh who does this every single week and puts this together for us. We uh we really, really appreciate all their efforts. We'll go a little uh round robin here. Coach, I'm gonna come to you first. Uh this young man from Maronick uh Boys Lacrosse, Brian Oaker.

SPEAKER_01

Part of the golden generation right now at Mamarinick in high school sports. Mamarinick Boys Lacrosse, Brian Auker led Mamarinick to statement wins over Yorktown 10-5, and North Rockland 16-4. Three goals and win versus Yorktown, four goals to assist versus North Rockland. All state football player headed to Boston College and the Flying Eagles.

SPEAKER_02

He's not gonna play. Currently, he's not planning to play any sports in Boston College, um, but he could play club. I mean, and who knows? He could play. You never know what he is special athlete.

SPEAKER_01

It's not like Boston College doesn't need depths. No, definitely not. Definitely not. I'll put it out there that way. No offense to all the Boston College graduates to watch on.

SPEAKER_02

He's been fun to watch, man. He's been just terrific. Both ways, football. He's been he's had a great year as a senior.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, congratulations to him. Uh, we're gonna stay with some across. Somers, boys lacrosse, Kevin, Cam Violente.

SPEAKER_02

Cam Violante, my man. Four goals, three assists, and a win over John Jay Cross River. Then he had two and two against uh in a win over Pelham. Somers is kind of peaking right now and getting better and just kind of lurking. And Violante is one of those guys. He's been around this. His older brother uh was a stand-up basketball player and football player. He was on the state championship football teams as well. Cam was, and um, you know, helped Somers raising a 9-7 fourth quarter deficit against Pelham, so they had to come back and win that game. Coming off the injury, this is uh this is his chance, man. He's headed to Maryland and uh this is his chance to kind of put a cap on his uh high school career. They obviously was interrupted by injury.

SPEAKER_01

Going to a fantastic lacrosse program. This is a family steeped in Section One history.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Well, listen, uh, I I I love seeing this name here on our list from the Rye Boys Lacrosse, Will Nishalik.

SPEAKER_01

Will Najalik. Did we say did we? You said it right.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I love seeing this name in the list, and I think it's he knows how to say it.

SPEAKER_01

Will Najalik. Yes, we love you, John Limb. Combined week, seven goals, uh, 11 assists, five goals, six assists, and an 18-4 convincing, resounding win over Pearl River, two goals, five assists, and another absolutely uh definitive statement win, 17-2 over Tapin Z. He's only a sophomore. 46 goals, 34 assists, 80 total points this season. And the future is bright and very positive for Rye going forward with this young man uh um at Rye Lacrosse, and obviously with him on the field, they have a chance to beat anybody.

SPEAKER_05

Right, absolutely. And uh, yeah, well, I apologize. Uh my notes were given to me wrong. My bad. Uh we'll make sure we fix that for next time. Moving, moving right along and staying with some lacrosse, but going to the girls, Kevin. Uh Ella Gold.

SPEAKER_02

Ella Gold, yeah, she's done every game. I mean, she had six goals, two assists um against uh Sufford in that win. And obviously, it's a it's a huge win for Nyack to be the best team in Rockland County, and obviously Suffron being a class A school, Nyack defending champions on the smaller side school side, and for them to beat Suffern was uh was a nice momentum boost for them. They didn't need a momentum boost going to the playoffs, but they have one now. And um, you know, they she's been just every game in, game out. Every time you look at the stat sheet um and the and the numbers she puts up against the competition they play, where they're facing, you know, they're facing New Caney and they're facing Darien, whoever they're facing, um, top teams around the country in this part of the country. Um, Ella just she delivers. And this whole team does, and uh, she's been like the catalyst on the offensive end. She's a sophomore. Only a sophomore.

SPEAKER_00

It's amazing what that community has done because it's not a big community.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's gonna be tough after this year. You have a lot of great senior class of players, and she's gonna have to carry the torch a little bit. But uh, you know, I still think they'll be they'll be heavily in the mix. Um, but uh it'll be kind of her show after the season, really. No doubt about that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. We love seeing these young players on this on this list. Uh coach, moving to you. Maeve Trainer.

SPEAKER_01

Maeve Trainer, new Rochelle Girls Lacrosse. Six goals, two assists, nine draw controls versus Tucko. She scored the double overtime game winner, and she is certainly a name to remember. Six foot tall, athletic, yeah, and only a sophomore. And by the way, no relation to the singer.

SPEAKER_02

To the singer. No, it's not to make a trainer. Correct. No relation to the singer. So the thing about Mave Trainer is that like we haven't talked about her much, and and obviously Nero Shell doesn't get talked about much. I don't think they uh I'm not sure whether they even are seated in the in the Class A playoffs, but the uh the recruitability that she has, if that's even a word, uh she's gonna catch some eyes this summer, I think, when she goes out and plays.

SPEAKER_01

The top 10, 15 programs in Witness Lacrosse in our country at the Division I level are gonna take a long, hard look at her.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, definitely, because it's just the height alone. So um she makes them uh she's a very intriguing prospect out of Nervous Shell.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, she is. And again, she's only a sophomore. Uh so uh let's uh let's move around this county here a little bit and uh go with uh Putnam Valley softball, Kevin, uh Kate McQueen.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so we didn't even talk about them in my class B breakdown, but they're right in the mix, Pud Valley, because of Kate McQueen. She the junior recorded a 300th career strikeout uh against Lakeland and a loss, and then threw a career, first career no-hitter against Valhalla, complete game shutout with six K's, also drove in a run. Pud Valley's a nice little run. They're the three seed, 14 and 6, and didn't mention them at all, which means they might have to go out and win the championship. Because uh Kate McQueen is just the way things go. So uh, but Mulkween um gives them uh gives them a definite chance, and again, it's how well you pitch this point of year. Pitching and defense in that level in class B. Everything. Yeah, everything.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, 300 strikeouts as a junior is a beast. She'll definitely strike out coaching two pitches. Yes. Uh coach, stick with sticking with softball. Ava Ritterman.

SPEAKER_01

Ava Ritterman, Ava Ritterman, White Plains High School softball, recur recorded her 100th career varsity hit in a 5-2 win over Fox Lane, hit the game time sacrifice fly in a comeback win over R. C. Ketchum, delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in a 10-9 win over John J. East Fishkill, and she is committed to play at Keene University. Um, senior infielder, gonna be over there at Keene University at the Division III level. Um, normally a very strong conference in softball, the NJAC.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, definitely. And uh I've been over to Kane University a few times with this softball. Um and the complex they have there, the field is everything's really nice. Really beautiful place.

SPEAKER_05

Um Kevin, this next player is uh you've you've seen her play. You've seen her. Many times, yeah. Many times.

SPEAKER_02

Amelia Manetto. So Amelia Monetto's not only does she go out and score the only two touchdowns in a uh 14-6 upset win over Han Hutt in the first round of the playoffs for Byram Hills flag football. Uh, last Saturday, she scored, I mean, two electric touchdowns, uh just dodging and avoiding tackles. Um, she did it after playing in an AAU tournament in Atlantic City on Friday night. That's amazing. Got in the car and drove three hours. Three hours to play, missed a couple AAU games on Saturday, and then drove back to AAU Sunday to finish the tournament out, and our team won. They won all four games. So um she followed it up by a two-day extravaganza uh against Dobbs Ferry because it was interrupted by rain or by thunder in the semifinals. They go and they beat, they upset the number six seed, Dobbs Ferry, to make the championship. She had four touchdowns and a 32-20 win to make it to the Section One Championship game, which is obviously against Westlake, Briarcliffe on uh Saturday. And uh they're going in as the number seven seed, the Cinderella team. And uh good news for her, no AAU conflicts this weekend.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, listen.

SPEAKER_02

What do you think about that having to go back and forth between the AAU? I mean, like that's incredible. Yeah, quite freshman. Freshman, freshman only, yeah. Yes, that's incredible.

SPEAKER_01

And credit to the family. Credit to the parents, credit to the parents now. Okay, Dominados for going back and forth to Athletics. To Atlantic City. To Atlantic City. It's not like they're sitting down there betting and keep winning, and we gotta keep coming back. Send the limo, send the limo with the plate.

SPEAKER_02

She was great in the Friday night uh AAU game, too. So it was tough to kind of walk away. But you know, I give her credit too because you know, basketball's her sport, flag football is uh something she does with the school. It was conflicts, and she uh chose to go and be with a team and six touchdowns in two games leads to a championship.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely awesome.

SPEAKER_05

It's like uh like like Deion Sanders flying out. She don't have no helicopter down there. Coach, that's uh let's stick with some baseball. One of your favorite sports. Uh Drew Worcester.

SPEAKER_01

Drew Worcester, Pearl River baseball. Help Pearl River lead to playoff upset wins over John Jay Cross River, 10-3, and 19-1 Tappen Z, three to nothing. Two for three, double three RBIs versus John Jay Cross River, six and two-thirds, shutout innings with nine K's versus Tappen Z.

SPEAKER_02

What did we talk about last week about Tappen Z being on one seat? All they have to do is get to the semifinals because no one's gonna beat them twice. And the scariest matchup, I said that last week in my in our previous show, was about the biggest threat is whoever is waiting in the quarterfinals, especially if it's gonna be Pearl River, Pearl River wins, and then Pearl River beats them 3-0. It was almost like you could see it coming from a mile away just because that's the way baseball is. Um, and for them to beat Tap and Z like that, it doesn't, it's it's a stunner on paper. Absolutely. But not really. Didn't surprise me.

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, well, we talked about it last week. We said that this could happen, that this could happen because we felt like, right, John, that Pearl River was playing with house money and all the pressure was on Tap and Z. Yeah. And and and you know, took place.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, listen, pr pressure, pressure bust pipes or makes diamonds in this case.

SPEAKER_01

Listen, I'll I'll say this again. The fourth best team in the region, when I played in high school, my senior year ended up being the first best team, the best team in the state of South Carolina. Yeah. Coach, where'd you go to high school? Somerville High School, Somerville, South Carolina. And unfortunately, and unfortunately, that was Beaufort High School. The Eagles won the damn state championship.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. So now it's down to Pearl River, Pleasantville, and one semifinal. Barm Hills. And uh who are they playing today? Barm Hills is playing uh the B. Westlake. I'm gonna remember it. Uh Pelham. Pelham. Thanks for the help. Big assist in the back now. Yes. Big assist in the back. So any one of those four teams, throw him in a hat, anyone can win.

SPEAKER_05

Now you know where he gets all the stats from. But before we continue on that side, let's grab a huge assist. Let's hit our our last one for rounding out the top ten. Uh Kevin, Gil Krause.

SPEAKER_02

So are we gonna acknowledge that my last two picks here for this were guys exactly how I predicted things were gonna happen? Um I said proliferum would be tap and Z if they got another chance. And then this one I saw coming as well because of pitching. Gil Krauss, number seven at Scarsdale. I said if they get to number, they can they get through Porchester in the first round, which I knew they would, they're gonna get to go to John Jay's Fishgill, and they're gonna have all their pitching lined up, and that is very dangerous for John Jay's Fishkill. And Gil Krauss, the main reason why, headed to Colby, the senior dominant pitching performance in a 3-0 win, six and a third shot at innings, 13 strikeouts, added uh just two hits and one walk, and then the uh they struck him out 14 times in the game between the two pitchers. And uh they won. We talked about this one last week. And now Herat is up next. But yeah, he came in relief at the final two outs. So, but yeah, they'll be so they're gonna. Who do they have next? Right, who do they have today?

SPEAKER_01

They have Mamarnik. And Herat is on the bump.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so it should be Herat. I'm like definitely not gonna start, but either way, we'll we'll know. Um, but Kraus is gonna be now it's double elimination because now they got to Krause, no matter what, Krause depends on Tuesday. So he's gonna be on full rest on Tuesday. Unless they try and throw him today, but I don't know if they can. Um because they pitch count. Yeah, pitch count. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

What's what and just for the viewers, I think it's like 80. So time out. I don't know. I don't I'm not trying to put you on a spot. No, no, I know. I think it's like 85 or 90.

SPEAKER_02

I I never remember what if it's three nights or if it's three days. Because obviously the last round of the city.

SPEAKER_01

I think it goes by by how many pitches you throw is how many days you have to you have to um sit. It's like Ronald's vacation restaurant. He can't pitch to them.

SPEAKER_05

Like seven, set, seven nights, six days, seven nights. Is that something like that?

SPEAKER_02

Something like that, the vacation. Like a Caribbean crowds is our last uh our last uh Joe Krause the lefty.

SPEAKER_05

Yep. I mean, 13 strikeouts and six innings, you know. That's that's really impressive.

SPEAKER_01

Greg Maddox of Section One, that's what he's he's the left-handed version.

SPEAKER_05

Yep, yep. Uh well, listen, this is why uh this is why we do the show. This is why we play the games. It's gonna be a lot of fun for this championship, Section One Championship uh run, which starts tomorrow. Um, well, actually, when you see this, it happened yesterday because you'll see this on Sunday. Uh, we're excited to be at all the team sports. We have a lot of covers to do. Uh, we'll be there. Come stop by, say hi, thank you guys for watching our show. Please make sure if you're listening to like and subscribe. If you see us on Instagram, please uh like and follow. Share this with whoever you can. Again, it's about the kids, it's not about us. The more exposure we can give them, the better chance they have to get recruited, and that's what the show is about.
