SPEAKER_02

We're Emily and Kyle. We started as coworkers in late night television and now we're best friends exploring NYC and our FYPs.

SPEAKER_00

This is an interview show about obsessions. Ours, theirs, and maybe yours too. Welcome to We're Obsessed With You. I'm not going to work today.

unknown

Boop!

SPEAKER_02

Hi Emily. Hi Kyle.

SPEAKER_00

How are you?

SPEAKER_02

I'm fine.

SPEAKER_00

Hi everyone. Welcome to the Wowie Offices. This is We're Obsessed. We're Obsessed With You. I'm Kyle O'Donnell.

SPEAKER_02

I'm Emily Himes.

SPEAKER_00

The show where we talk to, that did not make any sense. This is the show where we talk to the people we're obsessed with. About the people we're Oh my god. Episode 21, guys. It's not working out. The show where we talk to the people we're obsessed with about the things they're obsessed with. Yeah. I wanted to talk about something heavy. No, it's not heavy. Um, but today, when we film this, marks one year of me not drinking.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

I know it's kind of crazy to me.

SPEAKER_02

Congratulations.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. It's so funny to say for me to like take pride in it because it's literally just not doing something for a year. But the more I like think about not drinking, the more I realize like how pervasive it is in our culture.

SPEAKER_02

It's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Like if you tell if someone were to say, Oh, I'm not eating dairy, I'm not even eating grain, it's acceptable. But when I tell people that I'm not drinking for a moment, so many people have asked me if I'm in the program. So many people have asked if it's a health issue. And so many people have assumed that it's like because of like a physical thing. And let me tell you, nothing has changed physically. If anything, I my body has been falling apart over this past year. I was expecting after a year I'd have abs. My hair would be like Samsung, like I would be snatched.

SPEAKER_02

You are snatched.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. The truth is the like emotional side of it is what I've really noticed and I feel like I've benefited from the most.

SPEAKER_02

You feel like your patience level has evened out a little?

SPEAKER_00

100%. Yeah you know me, I'm quick to rage. And not drinking, I think, especially like in a work environment or something like that. I'm just like I have more acceptance of it. And actually, because Mother's Day was coming up, I've been thinking a lot about my mom. And my mom was in the program and didn't drink for like 30 something years or 30 years. And I've been thinking a lot about the serenity prayer because the serenity prayer was all over my house. Like, oh my god. I thought everyone had like we're an Irish Catholic family. Like, I thought everyone had the serenity prayer everywhere. It was framed, it was on our refrigerator door, it was up the stairs going up. It was every do you know it?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_00

God grant me the serenity. Oh God, now I can't even remember it. But it's like the point is, there are things I can change and I'll change them. There are things I can't change and I can't change them and accept it, and the wisdom to know the difference. Yeah. And I think it's actually it's that I've seen be true over the past year of not drinking. I'm just like, wow, I can't change this person's behavior, but I can change my reaction to it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's hard.

SPEAKER_00

It's really hard.

SPEAKER_02

It's really hard.

SPEAKER_00

It just like, I will say not drinking, it just like it softens a lot of the edges.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I do think, I mean, even this year of you doing it, there's been like way more of a boom of people not drinking at bars and restaurants. So I do feel like at least you can find some good cocktails.

SPEAKER_00

If anything, I'm more social than ever because of the energy to be social.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You wanted to talk about some cool sightings at work this week.

SPEAKER_02

I had some really cool sightings at work. Well, actually, wait, to go back, you thought everyone had the serenity prayer in their house. I thought everyone had a baby grand piano in their home.

SPEAKER_00

We never said we were relatable. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Or a piano. Like, even if it was like the high back piano. Yeah. We had one. My both grandparents had one. So I just assumed everyone had a piano.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you come from a musical family.

SPEAKER_02

I do.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Do I play? I did play, never practiced, so I don't know how to do anything now. But yeah, I just thought that. So tell us what you guys think everyone used to have growing up.

SPEAKER_00

That is hysteria.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I felt real stupid when I realized that was not the case.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. You don't have a baby ground.

SPEAKER_02

How embarrassing.

SPEAKER_00

So your sightings are working.

SPEAKER_02

Um yeah. So I work at 30 Rock. And yes, I work at Lane O'Seth Myers, where guests are coming in and out, and we have like we had really cool people on this week. But that's not what I want to talk about. I saw like kind of iconic things happened within two days.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Wednesday, the king and queen were in town. Yes. And oh, they were at 30 Rock. They were at 30 Rock. So after our taping on Wednesday, they it was around five o'clock and they were going to the Christie's gala. And we have a beautiful view from the eighth floor over to Christie's. So our photographer like was running and he's like, Come, it's about to happen. I was like, what is even going on? Anyway, we stood and we watched, we were waiting, and then I see a woman get out with perfectly like bobbed, like white hair. Yeah. And I was like, that's Camilla. And then she went into like a little pipe and drape, and then she came out, and her and King Charles just walked right in. So I saw them. Oh which was kind of like and I took a video, but I didn't send it to you because I was like, I'll just talk about it today.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, insert it here if you're watching the YouTube.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so that was really cool. And then the next day on my way to go meet Sam for her birthday dinner. Happy birthday, Sam. I saw two of the um Artemis two astronauts. They were leaving 30 Rock. I have no idea what they were doing, but they were leaving 30 Rock. That's major. That's major too. I was like, this is my eyeballs have seen so many cool things this week.

SPEAKER_00

That is so cool.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That was not even on my bucket list.

SPEAKER_00

Right. To see an astronaut.

SPEAKER_02

To see an astronaut. And they like literally like just came back.

SPEAKER_00

I gotta say something about it. In general. I was talking to my aunt recently about the political state of the world and that I get down in the dumps when people don't respect certain institutions. Like at the end of the day, I'm an institutionalist, and I believe that we should we have to hold these institutions with respect because otherwise, what's going on? And I love, even though I hate space, I love that astronauts still are commanding respect in this country.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, what they're doing is insane. You only like see it in the movies, and you're like, what? They're in space.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. But I want to talk about my obsession.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, talk to me.

SPEAKER_00

I am so obsessed with a TV show that no one is talking about. Let's do it. And I don't understand.

SPEAKER_02

Let's give them something to talk about.

SPEAKER_00

The testaments.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

The sequel to the handmaid's tale are prequel. No.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, it's a sequel?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, I'm such an idiot. I thought it was a prequel.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's a sequel.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, keep going.

SPEAKER_00

The testament's on Hulu, and it's based on Margaret Atwood's 2019 book, sequel of The Handmaid's Tale. And you don't have to have I was telling people at work and they're like, oh, but I gave up on the Handmaid's Tale. You do not have to watch The Handmaid's Tale to love this show.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, you can go on clean slate.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. It takes place about four years, I think, after the finale after like the events of the TV show. And it is incredible. Chase Infinity is the main woman.

SPEAKER_02

She was just in one battle after the another.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Incredible. And Dowd is back as Aunt Lydia. And it's a softer Aunt Lydia. Like things have changed for her.

SPEAKER_02

She's on the short list for Best Supporting Actress. And Dowd. For Emmy. Yeah, for Nemi.

SPEAKER_00

Amazing. Obviously, she filmed this right after The Handmaid's Tale, but she's such a good actress that you see the age in her. You see this woman's what has happened to her.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Mabel Lee, star, she's another supporting character. And then Lucy Halliday, who I do not know. She's kinda she and uh Chase Infinity. It's a two-hander. It's really about the two of them. What I love about the show specifically, I love all dystopian things, but this is about girlhood. And we love girlhood. We're just two girls. This show is about like trying to find the I don't even know how to describe it. Like the feminine joy in a desolate landscape. In a world that wants to be so awful to you. What is it like to be a teenage girl with your first crush, with friendships? It is amazing. Oh my god. It's like it's so weird to be like it's a very heartwarming show when it's in the backdrop of the bleakest, darkest of times. I love the show. It is so gorgeous. The cinematography, stunning, the costumes, gorgeous. And I do like being it's sick to say, but I like being in Gilead again.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

It's really sick to say, but like that is sick to say. The choreography of the world is so stunning. The rules.

SPEAKER_02

They do a really good job. Yeah. Like how do you think how many episodes are out now? Or by the time?

SPEAKER_00

Now I think there are five.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. We're like halfway through.

SPEAKER_00

So good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What are you obsessed with this week?

SPEAKER_02

My obsession is this is very New York centric, but I will like loop it in for those people who are in Mexico City. Um, I went out last night to Barbette, which is in Carroll Gardens, very close to your apartment. And it's a great little restaurant that is very it's American food, but it changes the menu all the time. Yes. It's fresh, love it, seasonal, really cute. Um but one thing that doesn't change there is on their dessert menu, and it's the yellow cake. It's I I know. I don't it's a classic yellow cake with chocolate frosting and flaky sea salt on it.

SPEAKER_00

It's what you think a boxed cake mix is going to taste like.

SPEAKER_02

And if you close your eyes and pretend a boxed cake mix could taste like this.

SPEAKER_00

It's so good.

SPEAKER_02

It is so good. We went with a friend who doesn't like cake, and I told her ahead of time, I was like, I'm so sorry. I know you don't like cake, but like I'm getting. I actually brought her a killer brownie in my bag and I gave her a killer brownie so I could still eat the cake. Um, it's so good. And while we're eating the cake, they also have a little bar. And I was saying to my friends, I was like, I wish you could just come and sit at the bar and have a slice of cake and a drink. And the girl next to me leaned over, she goes, I'm so sorry. I don't mean to be eavesdropping, but you can. She's like, I do it all the time.

SPEAKER_00

I've done that.

SPEAKER_02

Well, so so many places I think like restaurant bars, like, do they like that? Do you want? I don't know. So I feel like some people don't get the vibe of that. And so this place does. So I think everyone in New York should, or if you're visiting, go and have a slice of cake there and have an after dinner drink or a mock tail, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. What I love about that cake, it is the proper cake to frosting ratio.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

It is a one-to-one ratio. Huge slice of cake, huge mound of chocolate frosting. And it's like a whipped frosting, so it's very light.

SPEAKER_02

It's so good. And then I was wondering, I was I did try to look up like great places to go and sit at the bar and eat the dessert. Um, in New York.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and I had a few places come up, Clawed in the East Village, supposedly has like an amazing chocolate cake. So people do that. And then Sip and Guzzle, which we were just talking about in the West Village.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They have a soft serve. I mean, and since you can't get into any soft serve place in New York City, maybe Sip and Guzzle's your best bet.

SPEAKER_00

It's so delicious. It's great. Let's talk about today's guests.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, she's great. So fabulous. She's so fabulous.

SPEAKER_00

Unbelievable. We have Liv Schreiber, not Lev Schreiber. Yes. Liv Schreiber on the show today. She is a content creator and she has so many incredible businesses. Hot and single.

SPEAKER_02

Hot and social.

SPEAKER_00

Hot and social.

SPEAKER_02

Camp social. Yes. And we're going to talk to her about all of those things.

SPEAKER_00

Her mission is to make connections, whether it be romantic or with female friendships. She's so chic. She is, she's everything I think I am.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Everything we are.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But not.

SPEAKER_00

We love her. We want to remind everyone that we are on YouTube. If you're listening at We're Obsessed With You, please watch, subscribe, run it in the background while you're doing other work. Get those counts up. We're on Shop Buy. So any product we talk about on the show, you can shop directly.

SPEAKER_00

SPEAKER_02

That's your homework.

SPEAKER_00

It really helps us. It takes you all of one second. So please do that. We'll be right back with Liv.

SPEAKER_03

Yay.

SPEAKER_00

Liv Schreiber, we're obsessed with you. Welcome to the show.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, I'm obsessed with you.

SPEAKER_00

We're so excited to talk to you. We've been chatting beforehand and it's been fabulous already. But the way I personally came across your page is because I saw a bunch of my friends commenting on Hot and Single. Like all my female friends are like, hey, I'm available. So that's how I like got into your world. And now I'm like fully, fully into it. You're so fabulous.

SPEAKER_01

You're fab.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Um, tell us about Hot and Single and how that came to be.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm so excited to be here. Thank you so much for having me. You guys are so cool. And I just want to be your friend. Okay, so um, now that we're friends, so Hot and Single is all about connecting people. I moved to the city, I graduated a year early from college from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Go Badgers. And I didn't know anyone. And I was like, people I thought were supposed to be really friendly. And then I went into a few bars and no one wanted to talk. No. And I was like, what's going on? My mom and dad were here in the 80s. They raved about it. That was my bedtime story. You know what I mean? And then I'm like, but that that doesn't, that version of New York doesn't exist anymore. So I wanted to always be posting on social media, but I didn't know if I fit in with the fashion girlies or like, what's your lane? Yeah, I didn't really know my lane, but I just love people. Right. And I started posting that my twin brother was hot and single. Did you appreciate this? No.

SPEAKER_03

Didn't you appreciate this?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely not. Rude. You know, brothers, they like never not grateful. Be grateful, brothers. Um, and so I would post about him and I started generating in-person events and parties to have girls meet my twin brother and also other guys. Because there was nothing aside from like a meetup.com that was gathering people in a in like a cool way. Yeah. I was gonna say meetup.com like is lame. Like you don't want to do that. Yeah. And also there's a part to gathering and coming solo, which is my rule, come solo and leave as friends or more, even though people sometimes don't come solo, but it's okay. Um, but it's an energy, you know, and like there are people who take their best friends to the bathroom with them. And I want to be around people who are okay, like and confident walking into a room and kind of just being their representative and like meeting other people.

SPEAKER_00

I I what I love about this concept as well is that everyone's buying into it. There's, you know, everyone understands what this is supposed to be and are more open to connections.

SPEAKER_02

You know you're going to an event that everybody's looking kind of for the same. Right. They're not just going to a bar where you're like, oh, they're with their friends, they're here. I can't get in on that circle. Like everyone's open.

SPEAKER_00

There's like a generosity of spirit in a way to like be open to meeting people. Generosity of spirit.

SPEAKER_02

He's been on a roll today.

SPEAKER_00

I think like self-help era.

SPEAKER_02

How do you find these men? Like, do you how do you find them in the water?

SPEAKER_00

This is so crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks. Um I I just meet like great people all the time. I don't know. Some people can like kick a soccer ball really well. I'm good at finding hot guys. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

And you're really good at talking to people. I gotta say, like you're really good at talking to people.

SPEAKER_01

You make them feel comfortable. Yeah, I feel very comfortable. I just like love, I love people. And I I really think it's my why I'm here. It's my why to connect them. And everyone deserves someone who lights them up. And like I believe that that person exists for you. I love them. And you seem like a great person. And when I find guys, I will only film a guy who I would set my friends up with or who I would date. Like I would a hundred, if I were a gay man, I would date you. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Thank you.

SPEAKER_01

And if you're both and we'd be fabulous together. We would be my grandpa, R I P, he um, I have a gay best friend named Brian, and who's also single, but you guys he eats boy keboat when I'm gonna. Oh, yeah, no. But my grandpa always said, Liv, I wish you were a gay man, because then you can marry Brian. Like he was so upset.

SPEAKER_02

So anyway, um, yeah, I find guys everywhere. So when people comment, there's so many people commenting, like, my friend would be great, this and that. How do you decide who like there's so many people to go through? There's like a vetting process.

SPEAKER_01

How do you go through? So I ask everyone to comment about themselves, and the most important thing is why you'd be a match. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because if you're just like, I'm 42, I'm single, yeah, and I'm a gay man, like that doesn't tell me anything about you. That's just your stats. Yeah, that is we don't need your baseball stats. Yeah, I'm not putting you in a game, you know. So I really want to make sure the comments are clear because what people don't know is the men who I feature are going through the comments. And so, you know, they're receiving thousands of DMs from women or men, and I don't gatekeep anything. I say he's tagged on the video and like you shoot your shot because I want to empower people to like just go for it. And if they don't answer, like that's their loss. Right. You know your value. Right. And I'm just trying to increase the odds because dating is just a numbers game.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

You know, that's what my brother-in-law says who's single right now, so he needs to be on this as well. Uh, he's always just like, it's a numbers game. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, there's that article that came out about how we should all be smoking cigarettes again. Yes. And a big part of that is the social aspect of it. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think people should be smoking cigarettes.

SPEAKER_00

No, we need to find something that gets people off their phones.

SPEAKER_02

A nose in either.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. All that.

SPEAKER_00

But I think we do, at the end of the day, we do all crave that human cigar.

SPEAKER_01

We're mammals. Like we are not supposed to be in quarantine. Like, that's not us. Right. That's not how we were designed. And so no wonder loneliness, depression has skyrocketed and people feel siloed because that's not how we're supposed to be. So it's about like creating your village. I'd also say I met my husband Kyle in the elevator. Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, wait, explain the what you did the night before meeting him.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

You really did your research. We're like amazing.

SPEAKER_00

I love you guys.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I don't think I've ever had this much fun on the podcast. Which is probably because I was like, okay, only until three o'clock. Like, I'm I'm here. I'm here. Okay, like I really like the podcast. Um, I the night before I met Kyle, my husband, I was going through a breakup. And I totally was, I was 25, and I was like so stuck on this one guy being my life. And going through a breakup, I think you can probably attest, like you, you're almost living for your future. Like you really have this caricature of what you think life is gonna be, understandably. Yeah, and so when that ends, you're kind of just like I don't you don't even know what your life's gonna be. Right. And it can be really difficult, especially because you had that castle in your mind. Yeah. So um, I recommend taking a piece of paper. Okay. And I'll walk you through. Oh my gosh. I love it. All we're gonna do is we'll take a pen and it'll take us some time. This is so fun. I'm gonna take the pencil, let's do it okay. Here we go. So what you're gonna do is you're gonna really, and I recommend doing this like in a space maybe by yourself, but this is just purely demonstration.

SPEAKER_00

TV magic.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I want you to just write down something that makes you happy, like him would be. And let's say you're trying to manifest him. Like, okay, maybe we could give him a name or my person, my guy, whatever it is. And you have to think about how you're feeling while you're with your dream guy. Yeah. While we're writing this, it's you're it's really about like feeling excited. Like we're gonna pretend he is here. Yeah, he's at the table with us. Yeah, we're manifesting your dream guy. Perfect. Your next one. Chill. They haven't gone away. And we're gonna think of like, okay, um, what let's think of the topical things first because then it's easier to get deep. So, like, is he tall? Walk us through this. Oh, yes.

SPEAKER_00

I would like him to be tall.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, like how tall? Like, get really specific.

SPEAKER_00

Six, one.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, my height.

SPEAKER_00

Two, six, four.

SPEAKER_01

Great, love it. And what color hair? Is he bald? Is he black? Is he what like what is he?

SPEAKER_00

Oh God. I I really don't have a type. My type runs the gamut. Um, I just like someone that looks put together, whatever that means. Like it doesn't have to be preppy, but it just someone with a perspective and a point of view when it comes to style.

SPEAKER_01

Having a style perspective. Oh my gosh, you have great vocab. Oh my god, thank you. It really does. Sometimes we're like, what does that word mean? Yeah, it's that's I love that. Um, okay, style perspective. And uh what do you feel? He's right here with us. So what do you feel like when he's in the room? Do you feel calm? Do you feel solid? Do you feel excited?

SPEAKER_00

You know, this I always like whenever I have a crutch or something, I can't help but giggle. Like I feel like giggly and bubbly, like cutesy. That's what I'm like. Oh, I really am just a girl at heart. Like I'm just a teenager.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's nice. And when you're giggly and bubbly, what are you looking forward to doing with him? Like, is his family abroad and you're excited to travel with him?

SPEAKER_00

Or oh, oh, that's an excellent question. Thank you. I don't know. I guess I want to I want to be in every situation, just like feel connected to someone and like have an anchor in that way. So I don't know what that would like.

SPEAKER_01

He's an anchor. Yeah. He's an anchor. And because he's in the room with us, so he is.

SPEAKER_00

He is an anchor.

SPEAKER_01

And are you what are you? And um, where are you going this weekend with him?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we're almost done every time.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, we can get away.

SPEAKER_00

I would say this weekend we are we have like some museum date. Cute and then going to like a New York diner and just watching people.

SPEAKER_02

Love. So not the next game tonight? Not the next game.

SPEAKER_00

No. Like we are having like we're having an upper west side day. I don't live there, but like we've ventured to the upper west side to do something.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Love. Oh, I have the chills. Okay. And then now we get deep. So this is pretty topical, right? Like six, five blue eyes, da da da da.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Now looking for a man in finance. I went abroad with her, actually. Oh my god. Yeah, she's really nice. I'm happy for her. So um, shout out, Meg, you're great. Uh now let's talk about the deep stuff. So is he close with an aunt? Is he like, does he have siblings? Um, is he religious? Is he like really think about what is he?

SPEAKER_00

I really need someone that that's like intellectually curious.

SPEAKER_01

Love, I that was on my list.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

It's very important.

SPEAKER_01

And would you argue like um challenges you mentally?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I need someone that I can like kind of spar with a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That's great. And that's actually really important. A lot of single people forget about the mental part of what they're trying to manifest. You could have like a hot bod, hot everything, perfect castle in Romania. But if you're not, if you're boring or like you don't challenge someone, it it can, it doesn't work. You need mental stuff, it is very important.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

So we are so excited. I feel like we can take all of our these, we're gonna like lighting on fire. What we're gonna do is we're gonna we feel like you, I feel it. I now I really have a sense. Like, do you feel it? Yes, I do. I feel like he is, not even kidding. Like, I really I feel like I really know him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And we're gonna take this and you're gonna sleep with it under your pillow.

SPEAKER_03

Perfect. Excellent.

SPEAKER_01

And you're gonna like really feel the feeling tonight when you go to sleep. You're gonna take him with you, and you're gonna feel a feeling of just like going to bed, feeling like you met this person.

SPEAKER_00

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

Like creating this person in your mind. Yeah, yeah. Like he's here.

SPEAKER_00

And so you did this.

SPEAKER_01

So I did this.

SPEAKER_00

And the next day.

SPEAKER_01

And the next day.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god. I actually don't know.

unknown

I'm gonna go.

SPEAKER_03

And then it's mad at me.

SPEAKER_01

The next day, we I got up, went to work, went to take the garbage out to the basement. I just moved into this new building, the elevator doors parked, and he's standing right there. Oh I'm like, Unbelievable. I'm like, hi. And in my head, I'm like, oh my God, I Uber Eats the husband from the universe. Like, this is actually, yeah. I knew right now. Come yeah, I knew.

SPEAKER_02

Did he speak Spanish? Because one of the things on your list was like he needs to speak Spanish. Wow. Speak Spanish, which was on my list.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he had to build a fire.

SPEAKER_00

That was another thing. Yes, yes, yes. I love that you said that.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, oh yeah, I don't know how to do that. I would like the man to do that perfectly. Like be manly, you know, like do things. So he can't. So actually, like on our first date, I was like, so, because I was so freaked out that this had worked. And even if it's a coincidence, like that's a big freaking coincidence. Yeah. And as oversight, are there really coincidences? No, so many everything happens for reasons. Everything, yeah. There's kismet in the world. And so um, I said to him, I'm like, so um, do you like build? Can you build a pot?

SPEAKER_00

You know, elevator child. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know, he's like, no.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, okay, you know. I I love that there were some things he couldn't do, but you were like, I'm gonna continue anyway. Yes. And you know what?

SPEAKER_01

In my wedding vows, I actually said that there was so much there that I could have never imagined writing. Like, he is so much more than than what I wrote down, right? And what a blessing that is. Totally. So that's okay if you can't speak Spanish.

SPEAKER_02

He tries, and that's important. Now, you have been responsible for how many marriages now? So far, five. That's insane.

SPEAKER_00

Amazing. That is this is your calling.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, 100%. Did they did all five invite you to their wedding? No.

SPEAKER_01

Did anyone two but the other three like were early on setups from high school, from college before I got in the swing. Yes, yes. And then now I actually have so many people going out seriously. Love. I want to say eight couples went home for the holidays to meet other people, but now I have matchmakers in my database who are constantly matching people every day. Oh my god. So I don't know, like some of them aren't formally introduced by me because I'm not putting them in a group chat, but a matchmaker is. Yes. So I don't know if I should count it. I think you should.

SPEAKER_00

This is you're putting it out in the universe. And also, you're manifesting love for other people, which is so fabulous.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a good time.

SPEAKER_02

So you you have this, you're trying to help people find love and their partner. But then you also, I love this. You haven't forgotten about how important female friendships are. I mean the men die first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Like, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I love my female friendships more than I love that.

SPEAKER_02

Me too. The straight men die first. Exactly. No, you need them in your life. So you have also started camp social. Yes. Tell us what that is.

SPEAKER_01

Camp social is really the other love of my life. I love camp. I went to Sleeway Camp uh growing up every summer, seven weeks away from the parents.

SPEAKER_00

Where'd you go?

SPEAKER_01

I went to Camp Starlight.

SPEAKER_00

Where is that?

SPEAKER_01

Um the Poconos.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And uh it was just so great. And so, you know, we get to New York City, we're working, everyone pretends to be cooler than school. And I love the surf lodge, don't get me wrong. I think it's a great place. But I'm like standing there and makeup and my hair looks good and my outfit and we're taking Instagram pictures, but it's like that's work. And because I have a following on social media, I really feel like a lot of the fun that women define themselves as having in adulthood is actually work. Like you go out, you get dressed up, you make an effort.

SPEAKER_00

The expectations of a woman.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just exhausting. Like, I don't want to go to dinner when you should want to go to dinner with your friends. That's a brother. I'm like, that's what she says. It's it's not that fun. Yeah. And so I just was dreaming of a place that I could go where I didn't have to be this like bitchy prototype of me. Like I just want to like take my blowout out and just like run into the lake and be a kid again. Yeah. So I created it and I didn't expect anyone to come. And we're on our um fifth and sixth camps with over um 4,000 women connected so far, with a thousand women coming out this summer of all ages.

SPEAKER_00

I that's what I love about it, the intergener generational friendships of it all. I think I'm lucky in that I think gay men are more open to intergenerational friendships. But I think like for most heterosexual people, there's you're not running into people that are older than you outside of the other.

SPEAKER_01

How are we making those friends? Yeah, and how are we learning from each other? Unless you have like a great mentor, which I feel grateful. Like I've stayed in touch with women I always admired as a kid. And that so that's where I get my my intergenerational love or from my mom and my grandma. But a lot of women don't have that. Yeah, and so to be able to go to camp and go solo, and yes, we group bunks by age so that the girls like have friends their age. Of course. But then everywhere else around camp, it's just about doing activities that you want to do. So you're standing in line next to someone from Mexico City, next to someone from Oklahoma, and like one's older, one's younger, but you're just vibing. Yeah. Love.

SPEAKER_02

I love it and we're chatty. I like love meeting new people. It's so fun. It's important. Yeah. What kind of activities are there?

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, what's their I am always like kind of talent scouting because I always like to go to different workouts and see who is great energy. Yeah. Who would I want to spend a weekend with? So we're flying in jabs by Gina from Italy.

SPEAKER_00

Major.

SPEAKER_01

So she'll be there this summer. We have an astrologer coming. We have Little Words Project, the founder. We have Siroc and Bier brand Schaffer Hoffer, which is German and I never know what.

unknown

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

Bloom is a huge sponsor. So doing our pool party. And you know, it's cool because um you could, it's for any personality type. So let's say you want to go read by the lake. Go do that. Yeah. Do your thing. Or go rock climbing and do archery and go paddleboarding and tube. Something for everyone.

SPEAKER_00

This is amazing. Yeah. We'll be right back with your obsession, but can you tease us with one word?

SPEAKER_01

Mom.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I love that. We'll be right back. We are back. This is a mom-themed obsession.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. What is your obsession? We love our mothers. So, my mom and dad, they started a handbag company together. Oh my god. Very good. Together?

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Wow.

SPEAKER_01

My dad was in the leather business, and my mom saw him carrying boxes and thought he was like someone's helper.

unknown

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

And started speaking in Spanish to him. Oh my gosh. This is where it's all come from. The Spanish. Exactly. And he responded back in Spanish, like, yeah, I'll help you with your boxes, because they were at a trade show and she was working for a kid's clothing company. And then they fell in love. Another meat kid. Another meat kid. Oh my gosh. Oh my god. So my obsession is a bag I designed with my mom. Oh, that is so fun.

SPEAKER_00

I love that.

SPEAKER_01

This is so fun. I'm bringing it to my mother-in-law on 72nd right after this. Oh, how perfect. Um, because she just had knee surgery and she really's brutal. And this is the Lindsay tote named after my neighbor. Um it has a laptop in it. And I designed it with my mom because I'll just explain to my mother-in-law. Open her get. I designed it because I wanted like a cool work bag.

SPEAKER_00

I was just talking to someone about the other day about the like dearth of good bags.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

The dearth. Also, there's no good bags. New York City, especially. You're on the go. You have a phone, you have your card. Hidden phone pocket. Hidden phone pocket. There's a hidden phone pocket.

SPEAKER_03

Snake skin.

SPEAKER_02

That's amazing. Yes. That is amazing.

SPEAKER_01

It actually looks like snakeskin. It's leather foil made to look like snakeskin. It has one of these. Glove. What are these called a keychain? It's a keychain.

SPEAKER_02

And the word is keychain. No, I wouldn't have done what it is. I just love these little things now. I used to not know what to do with them, and now I know what to do with them.

SPEAKER_01

So that's the thing I'm obsessed with. How was it working with your mom? Oh, it's the best. I only had to beg her for about five years to make this in me. And then finally they listened and they're like, fine, live. Like, and it became their best seller. And now I'm like, why did I not call it the live? Yeah, absolutely. Like, what the heck?

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna make a better one.

SPEAKER_01

What other bags were they doing? What other bags do they have? What do they have? They have tons of bags, clutches, walls. What is the name of their company? Batico leather. Batiko leather. Um, and I didn't mean to plug their company. And uh, it's just, you know, when I see um bags designed by my mom and dad, like at the airport, if I see three of them, it's like good luck. Oh my god. You know the fact that you see three of them, like this is so cool. It's fun. Yeah, and it it's like you see someone you love, like a representation of them walking around with someone else. And it makes me really appreciate the things that people create. Like, even if it's just this mug, like someone's aunt like made this and they're really proud of her. And we're holding it and sipping it, not knowing the full storytelling.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yes, yeah, poetic. There's something about a bag, too, especially like a bag. This is an everyday bag. This is when you're bringing it to work, you're bringing it to the airport, you're bringing all around. These bags, like you have them for years and years, and sometimes you get a bag, like I have one from Madewell that I'm like, I I don't really like it, but I'll use it for a year. I've now used it for like three years. And it's just like it's it's part of me. Yeah. And people have my friend last night was Julia, actually, our producer, has a long shop, and she's like, I'm really ready to like upgrade and get like a cool bag that I can have. Because like these are commitments that you're making that you have for a really long time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then you love them. Like, this is so much nicer than my bag. And long shop. Well, now you're gonna go online and look.

SPEAKER_01

What other colors does it come in? Oh, it comes in every color under the sun. Fabulous. And it's it was really important to me to design a bag with a thick strap and like the proper girth. Because let's say it's winter time, you need you have a big jacket. Yeah, and when you have something really heavy in here, you don't want it to feel like it's lugging your shoulder.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So the width of the strap is really important, and then a magnetic closure, because the zipper, a zipper closure sometimes is complicated or you can't get into it faster. Yes. So, like the right amount of strength of a magnet was important.

SPEAKER_00

This is such like a New Yorker bag. Like you know, like you know what we go through on a daily basis.

SPEAKER_02

So much thought is in, like, has been put into this. So that's it. Oh my god. I love it. Thanks.

SPEAKER_00

So was your mom wait, so this is your comp your mom's company with your dad? Yes, fabulous. So, how long have they been doing this?

SPEAKER_01

For my whole life. Yeah, I grew up with leather skin on my kitchen table. We go to the factories, like my dad sniffs leather. Oh my gosh. Can you smell it? Let's see. Yeah, you can smell it. Oh, yeah, sniff test. Um, I grew up like playing in cardboard boxes in the warehouse. Oh my gosh. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Does it make you when you're shopping for things now for yourself, then are you do you feel like not a snob, but like you just you have you more knowledge?

SPEAKER_01

I actually have like very few bags because I grew up with so many of them. Yeah. Um, I stick to my Lindsay toe over there. And I would say when it comes to designer things, because I post what to wear on social media, like I really want people to get the best deal. Yeah. And I know where everything is made. Yeah. And I know that Chanel makes her same stuff in the same factory, someone else. And it's like just about branding and marketing. Right.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So to me, I'd rather wear a great Aritzia trouser than the same one priced triple the amount. Totally. And for women, especially for pregnant women too, it's so important to know if you're wearing full-on plastics. This is a whole thing I'm kind of getting into with like workout clothes, especially. We're sweating. Yeah. But are we in all polyester? Like seeping into your body. Right? Right. Yeah. So a lot, I think there's going to be a resurgence of like cotton workout attire, cotton thongs, like all things that are a bit more organic. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm guessing that you attribute your entrepreneurial spirit to your parents. Definitely. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So cool. I mean, I'm unhirable. I didn't have a choice.

SPEAKER_00

You have to forge your own red. And you have.

SPEAKER_01

Like, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What do they make of all the social media success? Do they get it?

SPEAKER_01

No. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They're like, we want you in an office.

SPEAKER_01

They don't because they know I would be fired.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think they're they're proud because they know that I know what I need to do. But um, they, you know, when I first started posting, my mom's like, I don't get it. Like, why? Right. She's such a they're very private people. And so they're like, why? Don't be flashy, don't show off. I didn't understand. Yeah. Um, but yeah, now they have like my mom called me yesterday. My friend's daughter is single. Can you set? I'm like, mom. Okay. All right. Sure. I love it. Did you end up setting your brother up with who he's with now? Actually, um, they're in a new relationship. But I will say the girl was at my wedding.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

But not with my brother.

SPEAKER_02

My gosh.

SPEAKER_01

Scundle.

SPEAKER_02

That's good. Well, you know, for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. You can cut it if you want to see it. Yeah. No, you could keep it. Yeah. I love her. Yeah. But be scared.

SPEAKER_00

Don't sit out alive.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, don't say it. You're great.

SPEAKER_00

We're running out of time. So we want to do a lightning round to get your takes on some more hot topics.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, your brother's gonna kill me.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? That's what twins are for. Yeah. Simply tell us if you're obsessed or over it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I'm gonna start. Splitting the bill on the first date.

SPEAKER_01

Over it. You know, never. Don't ever do that. Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_00

Girlhood.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Obsessed. Orange juice with pulp. Is it fresh? Yes. If it's like very fresh, then yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The only way to do it. Yeah. Doodles.

SPEAKER_01

Like golden doodles? No.

SPEAKER_02

Brunch that starts at 3 p.m. Do you see my purebred?

SPEAKER_03

Try back a bit.

SPEAKER_00

I sniffed you out.

SPEAKER_02

Come on. Hello. Brunch that starts at 3 p.m. Sure. Anytime. I mean, I'll eat before. Yeah. You have to. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Substacks.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, same.

SPEAKER_01

Red light therapy masks. Obsessed, but I always forget to do it.

SPEAKER_00

Double dates.

SPEAKER_01

Does it really even work? I know. Double dates, yes. Obsessed. S'm'ores. Well, obsessed only if it's like with my gay best friends, honestly. Because they're like really fun. Like if it's a boring couple now. Absolutely not. Obsessed. I know. Dread it. Yeah. S'mores. Yes. Obsessed. Do you have them at camp? Oh my god, we have them at camp and we have custom s'more skips. How adorable. Oh my god, obsessed with camp photo.

SPEAKER_00

Polka dots.

SPEAKER_01

Um as a top, yes. Dresses I'm over.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's a very like rockabilly 1950. It's like a polka dot dress.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we got a little too into it.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Like I feel like Martha from Ladies of London would wear one, though.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Are you watching Ladies of London?

SPEAKER_01

And I saw um maybe 10 seconds of a clip of Ladies of London. You have to watch. You'll be obsessed.

SPEAKER_00

It's the best.

SPEAKER_01

It's so good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay. There goes your weekend plan. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. One final question.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Three, two, one. Are you obsessed with us?

SPEAKER_02

I'm so excited.

SPEAKER_00

This was so fun.

SPEAKER_01

This was so fun. Thank you so much for that. Can you move into my apartment with me? Okay. Okay. Can you live in our house?

SPEAKER_00

We'll do double dates. I'll get set up on Hot and Single and we'll do double dates all the time. Thank you so much, Liv.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Oh my god, guys.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, thanks for tuning in.

SPEAKER_02

Are you obsessed with us? Please like, comment, and subscribe.

SPEAKER_00

Bye. God grant me the serenity to the thing. The courage I can. And the reason the difference is keep coming back as it works if you work.
