What actually happens when your content goes viral?

In this episode, we're talking about the difference between getting attention online and actually building a brand people trust, remember, and stay connected to. We dive into why so many creators and business owners are chasing virality, trends, and views without realizing that the content surrounding those moments matters even more than the viral post itself.

We talk about what happens after someone discovers your content and the subconscious “profile audit” people immediately start doing when they land on your page. We break down why clarity, consistency, personality, and perspective matter so much more than constantly trying to crack the algorithm, and why attention without depth often leads to missed opportunities.

We also get into the difference between sustainable content and dopamine-driven content, the role of trial reels, and why some of the strongest brands online are not necessarily the loudest ones. This episode is a conversation about building a brand that gives people a reason to stay long after the viral moment passes.

Legacy isn't built in grand moments. It's shaped quietly through the choices we edit every single day. Welcome to the Legacy Edit. This is where identity, relationships, and business stop competing with each other and start working together. Because you can't build something sustainable if your life isn't aligned behind it. Here we have a real conversation about what it actually takes to grow the mindset, the standards, the decisions, and the rooms you choose to be in. I'm Sarah Nicole, the Legacy Architect, and this is where we refine how you think, why you move, and how you build so your life and your business reflect it. So let's get into it. Hello, hello, hello, you gorgeous human, and welcome back to another episode of the Legacy Edit Podcast. I'm your host, Sarah Nicole, and today I want to talk about something that I've been seeing talked about in some of the communities that I'm in and how it's affecting business owners and their online strategy. And that's viral content versus sustainable content. Now, something I find interesting about viral content is that most people don't actually realize that when something goes viral, the content, the reel, the TikTok, like the actual content itself is not what's creating the conversion. It's everything that happens after that viral reel is seen, right? Because let's think about our own behavior online. If you see a reel or a video that really resonates with you, or even one that you strongly disagree with, what's the next thing that you do? You're gonna go click on their page, right? Every single time you're scrolling your for you page, you're looking at, you know, try like the the reels, you know, and and you see something that clicks, and then you're gonna go to the page because you wanna know who this person is, what do they actually do? What else do they talk about? Do I like their perspectives? Would I follow them? Should I be following them? Would I buy from them? Do I trust them? Right, and honestly, that's kind of what gets lost in the sauce when people talk about content strategy or when you're looking at your own content, right? Because uh when you're looking at your own content strategy, because I feel like everybody gets so focused on chasing virality, chasing trends, chasing views, trying to crack the algorithm, right? That they tend to forget the rest of the content actually has to support that attention that they're asking for, right? Like if you're if you're out there searching for the next hit trend and you happen to go viral, does the rest of your content actually support that attention? Now, that's not to say that trends are inherently bad. Like, yes, trends can absolutely help your visibility. The viral reel or the viral TikTok, it can absolutely open doors for you. I'm not anti-trend, right? I do think that trends are very, very useful. However, if somebody lands on your page after a viral trend and your content is confusing, it's inconsistent, it's random, or it just doesn't clearly communicate who you are, what you do, and who you help, you are losing so many opportunities without even realizing it. Like you are missing out on potential clients, you're missing out on collaborations, um, podcast listeners, you're missing out on community, you're missing out on sales, right? Because if you're relying on your content for a lot of your sales, and your content doesn't support who you are or communicate that, you're losing those opportunities, and all of that is because the attention that you got from that viral reel, it had nowhere meaningful to actually go, and I think a lot of people tend to mistake attention for connection, and attention is someone just watching the reel, right? You're looking at your at your numbers, at your views, at your likes. That's all just attention. Connection is when somebody actually stays in your world after they've found the viral content, after they found you from that viral content, right? And those are two very different things because the reality is a viral reel can introduce you to a new audience, but it's not gonna tell them who you are. Your everyday content is what tells them who you are and why they should stay, right? The way that you speak, the things that you're repeating consistently, the problems that you care about, the stories that you tell, your unique perspective that you have about, you know, life or your niche, right? And the way that people actually feel when they do come to your page, because those are all of the pieces that actually build the trust. And now some of the biggest and strongest brands that I know are not people constantly going viral or people who've really gone viral at all. Most of them have smaller audiences, but incredibly strong communities because the people in their world understand exactly who they are, what they stand for, and what kind of space they create online. Meanwhile, on the other side, I have seen some of the biggest creators, right? Like you look at their vanity metrics, and you would think they have to be some of the most successful people. They are getting millions of views, they have hundreds of thousands of followers or even multiple thousands of followers, and they still can't convert because their audience is connected to entertainment, right? They're connected to those viral reels that entertain them, but they're not connected to any identity, there's no depth to their content, and there's no trust between the audience and the creator. And I think that's where focusing on sustainable content really matters, not just dopamine content, not focusing on how do I get views today, but content that actually keeps working after it's posted. Content focusing on content that actually gives people a reason to stay after that curiosity, after that viral reel, after that like moment of hmm, what does this person do? Who is this person, right? After that that that moment gets them to your page. Um, and one place that I see this too is even with trial reels. Um, you know, I've been playing around with trial reels myself, and you know, it's hit or miss. And but the goal with trial reels, it should never just be to get like just to get pushed onto random people's feeds. Okay. The goal is to actually attract aligned, um, aligned individuals and then give them enough clarity and consistency in your content that they understand your world once they arrive. Like they they don't have to do a lot of digging to figure out if you are actually aligned with their views and their thoughts and and their perspective. Because if somebody binge watches your content for 10 minutes, you know, and they still don't know what you do or who you help or what your brand actually stands for, people want to blame that on the algorithm, but it's not an algorithm problem, it's literally clarity, right? You know, algorithm algorithm helps you get people to your page, but if you're not clear um in your content, they're not gonna stay, and I really think that we are entering a phase online, we're going kind of back to where the depth of content is really going to start mattering more and more because I think we're kind of at the point where you know people are exhausted by empty content. People want depth in their content again, they want to see your personality, they want to see your perspective, they want to see real, and they want to feel like there's an actual human behind the content with everything, with everything being AI and AI blowing up all over the place in every way, and the AI is getting so good. They want to feel and see that there's an actual human behind the content, and I think the creators and the business owners who are really going to last long term are always going to be the ones building brands people remember outside of the trends because they communicated clearly enough that people understood them, right? Um, I really feel like people are again, we're tired of AI, and there's just so much mess in the world. Um, it's easy to lose your message in the mess. And I really truly think that those who are focusing on building a personal brand are going to be the ones who continue to grow and um you know be successful online. So uh that's just kind of I've been seeing it pop up, and I just wanted to kind of share my perspective on that, especially, you know, coming from a personal branding uh perspective, a personal branding background, like it is it is so easy for us to use the tools, which it's not bad, to use the tools to help us, um, but they're not there to do it all for you. They're there to be an assistant, to be a cry, you know, to be um a help, a tool. It's a tool, it's not meant to do it for you. And people are getting really tired of the creators who aren't showing themselves, they aren't showing their personalities, they aren't showing what they stand for, who they stand for. Um and yeah, so focusing on your personal brand, I will always wholeheartedly, I can't think of the word I'm looking for, um, not I guess we'll go with petition. I will always wholeheartedly petition to focus on building a personal brand and letting people see who you are because we want to know that you're a real human behind the screen and we want to know if we align with you. So I hope you have an amazing rest of your day. And until next time. Bye. If this episode shifted something for you, don't just leave it here because you can't grow in isolation, and trying to will only slow down what you're actually capable of. And that's exactly why the Legacy Edit membership exists. It's a structured space design to support how you grow across the three areas that actually move everything forward. You, your relationships, and your business. Inside, you're stepping into monthly conversations that challenge how you think and how you show up.
