My mom listens to our podcasts too. Blame her for all this. No, I love this. And then, like, my brother, like my brother grew up watching like SpongeBob and stuff, which I know is like much more um diluted PG. Uh, I remember watching an episode of like cat and dog, because my brother would watch that too. And I was like, this is the stupidest shit in the world. Like, I have no desire to watch this.

Yeah. Good to see you. It's it's been a while. Um, you know, I know we do crying and thriving. Yeah. And I wanted to like point and laugh at us and say jokes on us. Uh, we did this episode like three episodes ago. The whole episode was like idolistic, how our summer is gonna go. Everything was so gonna be organized. It was set. Like this is what the days were gonna look like, and we were like, yeah, it's not a problem working during the summer. We were gonna be so structured, we're just gonna be the most productive months of our lives. And here we are. Good, please. Go play. Out. Here we are. Uh, and now uh our our our podcast is a little bit behind because we haven't been around, we haven't been able to record.

Also, sad for us, we're used to seeing each other constantly, and we've seen each other maybe like four or five times this summer so far. That's true. I mean, it's been more than four or five times.

It's been cra it has truly been crazy, but I'm also really proud of us. Yeah. Because both of us have the personality where if things don't go the way that we plan, that we're like, screw it all! I'm wiping this away and we're we're completely completely done. And so, um, you know, I we we're having grace for ourselves. We're pissed about it. Yeah. Both of us are like feeling like losers and like we um are not meeting expectations.

The firstborn daughter feeling of of just like failure. It's so funny because we constantly are performing for perfection for no one else other than ourselves and the pressure that we put. Also, we give grace to everyone else except for ourselves. We really do. I think I think the reason why I have grace for us on this podcast is because I'm doing it with you. I was just gonna say this.

Oh how are you doing? Uh that that was kind of like my update of like life is chaos, which is kind of both our life. But how is there anything that you want to update us on or mention? Or how are you? How's your summer going? Since I see you like four times total.

Yeah. Um I mean, that was the I mean, I don't know. It's all it's all the same now, right? Like we kind of our our next episode after this is gonna be an entire episode of catch up. Absolutely. I have so many things to talk about in that episode, too.

Um I'm doing good. Uh so my kiddo, like Amanda's kiddos, are home for the summer. We are not doing any summer camps, we are truly just doing, you know, 90s summer, a lot of outdoor time, a lot of watching mom work, a lot of things like that, a lot of co-working, things of those sorts. Um but I would say overall we're doing really well. I told my kid earlier this uh a few weeks ago, actually, I said, this is gonna be the summer that you figure out how to be bored. So good. And he looked at me like I was banana hammocks.

But I was just like, no, I think it's really important, right? Like we are uh boredom is normal, and boredom is actually needed. That's how we learn how to use our brains. We can become imaginative, like we can work through it. We don't need constant stimulation. Yeah. And so maybe this is me like giving myself an escape for not constantly having something for my child to do. But at the same time, I think it's okay. It is it is necessary though. It's necessary for sure. So he's learning how to be bored. We're also doing the reading lessons that Amanda had put us onto. Yes.

It's called 100 lessons to how to read in 100 easy lessons or something like that. It's easy, it's so nice. I love it.

So easy, it works so well. I'm so happy to have this. So we're on lesson 15. Okay, and my child read a sentence. I love it. I mean, it was a really easy sentence, but read a sentence number.

Still the fact that they can decode the sounds enough to read a sentence is huge. And then it boosts the confidence. Yes.

And then after reading the sentence, there was a picture right next to it, and then it was comprehension questions asking what was happening in the picture and everything, which I thought was also really important. For sure. Because reading something is something, is one thing. Yeah, comprehending what you're reading is a whole different thing.

Uh-huh. I love that that it focuses on both. So my kid, I started it during his TK year, but really it was mostly during the summer between TK and Kinder that we worked on it, and he made it through like lesson, I don't know, like 75, and he was reading, and he was like, I'm done with this, and we moved to actual books. Yeah. And you, your child, is also working on it through between TK and Kinder year, and it's working really well. Whereas I really well also trying to work uh on the book with my youngest, and she's still like meh. I mean, she can, but she's not really motivated. And I think that it'll be I'll work on it with her if she wants to, and I'll encourage her, but it might she also might be it might be better suited for between TK and Kinder Year.

Yeah. I I will say that I've heavily incentivized it. So we've talked about it on the podcast before. My child is like me, we are glued to our screens, we love our screens, and because of that, I limit it to one episode of TV a day for my child. Um, that episode of TV m were weighs more than gold in my child's eyes. And so I've let them know that hey, in order to get our episode of TV, we we should do a reading lesson. And so now in the morning, I wake up to my child eagerly opening the book and setting it out for us to do a reading lesson. Look, Mama. Yes, exactly. Our lesson is is ready for us. And then as soon as the lesson's over, can can I watch some TV? And the TV episodes right now are Magic School Bus. Okay. So honestly, really.

I'm shocked. So uh we were on Zabumafu, we moved on to Wildcratz, and now we're heavily onto Magic School bus. Love it. So, all good things. Very PBS heavy family. Okay, we are pro PBS. We're PBS Passport House, you're a PBS passport house too, right?

What? What's PBS Passport? So I really like like information and like educational TV shows as well for myself. Um, and so PBS Passport, I think it's like $70-ish dollars a year.

And it's like really affordable. And it's the it's like Disney Plus, but for PBS. And so it has kids' TV shows and adult TV shows.

But I do have it through we have a PBS subscription. Uh it's five dollars a month, but maybe it is the same thing. Oh, then maybe it is the same thing. But that is through Prime Video. So it's an add-on to Prime Video. You pay five dollars a month for PBS uh kids. It might also only be PBS kids. But then you told me you can get PBS for free. Yeah, I you can get PBS kids for free. So a PBS passport is like why I'm paying for it. Michael keeps asking me, he's like, Can we take this off of our monthly expensive? Next time you come to my house, I'll show you.

So now all of these, like everyone moved away from cable to do streaming because it was so so much better, so much more affordable because you only had to pay for what you were using. This angers me so much. And now, cable, I mean it's it's essentially cable is back.

Cable is back, cable is back and worse. So we were all blessed. I I uh let's rewind to the to the early 2000s when TiVo came to be. Oh, TiVo. TiVo, blessed be TiVo, if we only stopped there. Sorry. Then Netflix comes, and Netflix's like, you don't have to go to a store. You can just have your movie dropped off in your mailbox. We're we're Netflix, we're the cool new thing. But it was the cool new thing. And then they put it all on TV. And they were like, hey, hey, hey, it's only six dollars a month.

It's not that much. I think when we first started getting YouTube TV, it was like it was something ridiculous, like $25 a month. Cheap. When cable was, you know, $80, $90, $120 a month. Yes. Netflix. It's a no-brainer.

From what I understand, I do not want to be held liable for these words. From what I understand, Netflix set up their pricing, not in a in they were in the negative. But that's what we're doing it to kick cable out. Yes. And so guess what? Now all these companies instead of us just paying $90 a month for cable and having access to everything in the buttons.

The issue is he is a glutton for punishment, and he will scrounge for any food possible. And on top of that, Amanda's counters are a little bit lower than normal. This is so funny because I'm short. I'm five foot one. My counters are so high. And I come to her house and they're perfect for me. But and they're perfect for her dog because he just lightly lifts his legs and he can grab literally anything. I know, I know. Yep, it's it's annoying. So, anyways, yes, Netflix, bad.

Um frustrating thing too, which we've talked about, is that Netflix does have some really good stuff that I want to watch. I know. And we'll never watch elusive movies.

Oh my god, so good. So a few weeks ago on the pod, I think it was our car episode. I think so, yeah. Yeah. So Car Chronicles, I think, is what that was. Car Chronicles. We're talking about different books that we like, and I'm how I I mentioned that I'm into some older classics, gothic style novels, and I remember mentioned Rebecca to you.

And you actually read it while going camping.

I did. I was like, so for I I was hesitant. I am not a classics reader. I don't like, I just, they're slow. I can't really relate to them. And I will say Rebecca is a little bit slow at the beginning, especially with the world building and like explaining like a few things. The first couple of chapters can be a little bit slow. And I and I was reading it and I was like, I'm gonna read this because Lenny, she recommended it, she gave it high praise, and I wanna at least read this and know what she likes to read, right? Like I just like I'm like, okay, that's that's that's I'm gonna read this. This is my first time reading a gothic gothic novel. Um, and so it definitely has creepy undertones when you're reading it. Like you can just like it just feels creepy, which I didn't know you could feel creepy while while reading. Yeah. Uh and and uh and then it like starts the story, and I hate the protagonist's man immediately because he can be her father. Yeah, like he treats her like a daughter. And he treats her well like a daughter or like a pet.

Yeah. Oh, like a pet is a great way to describe it. By the way, spoilers on a book written almost like a hundred years ago.

Yeah, 1938. I this is still the first like five chapters of the book. I'm not gonna call it a spoiler when it's like practically, but anyway, I mean, because it's like when you read the description of the book, it says some of this well, not that he could be her father or that he treats her like a pet, but um the dynamics and the way that the author um twists the story and makes it appear one way and then flips it, yeah, and it looks completely different, and uh, but this dead woman is just like the ghost of her just lingers. Yeah. It's so good.

No. It's just like the memories of her. The memories of her linger in everyone. In everyone.

Everyone is every character is very complex. Like so complex. Yes. It's a really well-written book.

I did not think I would going was going to enjoy a 1930s book, and I thoroughly, thoroughly they even like there's some bisexuality in the book. Yes, there is. They there were there was they were ahead of their time. Uh, what was the author's name? Dap Daphne uh Demur.

Demure. Oh man, I'm not the best with knowing those things. I don't know. But going back to Netflix.

Oh, yeah, they they did uh um uh original movie based off of the book. Yeah, yeah. And I really wanted to watch it. And when I went to go find it, it was Netflix only, and I got really pissed.

This is what's so fun about friendship though, right? Is like you can be really close. Like we are very, very close. But we are so different. So different. Yeah, very different.

I don't like I don't like movies at all. And then when it's black and white, and then I'm like, oh my god, just get to the point. I so I read Project Hail Mary, and then I went and I saw the movie, loved the book, enjoyed the movie. They can't go, but what I realized is one of the reasons I love books is because you're engrossed in the story over across multiple days or weeks. And they can go into so much more detail and character development.

You can also go into people's head spaces. Yes. Which you can't do. Yes. Like Misery. Misery by Stephen King, one of my favorite novels. Uh-huh. They made a movie adaptation of it. It's really good. Yeah. Um, but like 80% of the movie is uh being held in a man's head. Of the book, you mean? Of the book. Yeah.

You can't translate that into a movie. No. And so Yeah. And again, Project Hail Mary the movie was so good. And then I just read his uh his third book. I realized The Martian by Matt Damon was based off of uh was one of his books too. Same author as Project Hail Mary. Yeah. So now he's had two movie adaptations, and I I haven't read The Martian yet, but now I want to because I remember The Martian movie was really good.

Yeah. And so the third one is called Artemis, and it's about a heist on uh moon community. It was so good. And then I was reading that uh the movie rights are in development right now or something, so that would be an awesome movie if they can figure it out.

If you end up really liking space novels, I have a really good recommendation. What? Um it's Aurora, and who is it written by? Oh man, let me look it up. By Kim Stanley Robinson. Aurora. So it's a uh space sci-fi book? It's a sci-fi book, and it's a book written from the point of view of the AI of the ship. Of like the ship AI about a mother and daughter's relationship on the ship. And it's a it's a multi-generational space travel book uh ship. So like they left they left Earth like multiple generations ago and they're still traveling to the next place.

Do you think it would be a better read or audiobook? I'm pulling it up on Libby right now. I don't know. I've I've never really done audiobooks.

I would love to start doing audiobooks. That's what I should do.

I I do both. Um right now I'm listening to Home Going. Have you no? Are you have you are you familiar with that one? Home Going. Home Going. Oh my god, it's tragic. It is so you know I love a tragic one. I know. Um so it's it starts in probably the 16 or 1700s. Two sisters um born in Africa, uh, of the same mother, but they don't know each other. And one is born into royalty and the other is sold into slavery in the Americas. And so each chapter is one generation down of each side. So you like get to see how generational shifts happen. Oh my gosh. Just depending on the life that you live. Um super sad. I don't think I could read it because sometimes I have to zone out a little bit while I'm listening to it. Uh, but it's a good, it's a really good listen. And um, I really enjoy it. I I no, I really enjoy I'm no, actually, it's not my favorite book. I don't really enjoy it. It's really depressing. I really enjoy the concept. I really enjoy like the bigger picture of it. I really enjoy how it's making me think. The storytelling. I really enjoy the storytelling. Um, it would be, it's very heavy. Uh and and because each chapter is just one person in the generation, you know, for the listen, it's like one hour per character. And so you get the snapshot of this person's life and then it's on to the next generation.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's a good listen. Um, it would be a much harder one to read. Sometimes the like I know it's not a nonfiction, but sometimes like the nonfiction or the historicals are harder for me to read. Takes me a really long time because it's uh takes more brain power, I guess. You know? Uh so sometimes those are easier listens to me because I can actually get through them.

I can say that. Yeah. I really need to get into audiobooks because I there's some podcasts that I listen to that are storytelling. Yeah. Uh like that you like, right?

Like uh, what is it? Wolf. There's this one pop podcast that I really liked for a long time, and it essentially was a uh chronicle uh captain's log of a man on a spaceship. And it was a podcast? It was a podcast. But it was set in like a Guy Noir style, like reading. What does that mean? Um, do you remember like Guy Noir, like uh like old-timey like detective? Okay. Yeah, like kind of like that.

But it's great because a lot of books you can either read, download for Kindle or whatever your e-reader reader is uh and or audio. So like I think my sister uses it exclusively for audio because she doesn't have an e-reader, so she uses it exclusively for audio. I like different lists. If something has a long hold time, a long wait, then I will like put it on hold and until I get like first in line and then I'll suspend it because you can suspend a book up to a year. Um, and then if something can be borrowed immediately, but I don't, I'm not ready to read it yet, then I'll I have a little you can tag books, so I tag it uh to be to be read so that I can go back whenever I need something that is downloadable right now and my holds aren't coming through. I can just And can I know that you have a Kindle.

Yeah, yeah. I finally found some chapter books that are my son's um like comprehension level. Yay! The uh uh Alien Next Door series. That's so cool. It's really cute. And so he and I all take turns reading pages, although um, since school got out, we have not been reading that one. But he did for summer reading, our uh our library does like a summer reading challenge. You can earn um a book from the library, you can earn a medal, you can earn swim passes to the local um pools. Really a great program here in the Sacramento area.

And then on top of it, in the Sacramento area, there's free lunch Tuesday through Friday. Yeah, yeah. So and that's from 12 to 1. 12 to 1, yeah. And so it just kind of like lends itself to my own.

Uh, and they were super popular because they knew people from all of the different from sports and from you know, neighborhood friends and this and that, even though it was out of school that they don't actually attend. Uh, and it was Corn Dogs and Teeter Tots, and that was way more up their their style of eating. They like were like, oh yeah, we like this one. Um, but going back to the library, the Libby app, the oh, I was gonna say, in order to get, because it's 25 books to get the medal at uh for our library system, my son sat there and read 25 E Z readers to his sister in over across two days so that they could get their medals. It was the cutest thing. You know what's gonna be fantastic is in August when all three of them are in school. We could podcast twice a week if we wanted to.

Yeah. Um I've But for you, May was for me, it was really slow. Um, we've talked about and this is me being super like uh vulnerable, I guess, or very honest with everyone. Like, I'm a single income home, right? Yeah, and so like I don't like touching my savings because my savings is there for catastrophic events. My my savings is there to keep my home afloat, my savings is there to make sure life can continue on, right? Yeah, and when months are slow, my brain starts going to all like the worst case scenarios, right? Yeah, we we were just talking about this yesterday, yeah. And so um, you know, it's just part of our market, it's something that I I've been in this industry for quite some time now. Every single time it gets like this, I go to worst case scenarios in my brain. Yeah, it always ends up working out, right? But it's still not comfortable. No, and it's tough because we talk about how what you do pays in in about six months, and that is almost always the case, but there's just certain times when the market's just not going. Yeah, and so it was a really slow it was really slow, and that was really scary, and it's tough because we're at a time where kids are home with us, so maybe we feel like we're not putting as much as we usually are into our business. We can't. We can't we literally can't, yeah, and so yeah, and it's also tough because I want to be there for my partners, right? Yeah, and so it's I've had multiple partners reach out to me about doing open houses, and it's summertime. Yeah, my child wants to be outside, and I only get my kid every other weekend. Yeah. And so when they're home, I do want to be home. I don't want to do open houses, but at the same time, I know that's I do need to be there for my partner. So it's like a balancing act, right?

Well, and then for me, it's like during these slow times is when I do notice when people use other realtors, right? Like when when times are good, you're like, I totally can respect, like, you know, go for it. There's plenty of us for everyone. But then when you're slow yourself, you're like, oh, that is a a bigger um blythe than it would be otherwise, or you know, like a yeah, yeah.

Absolutely. And it's also tough because it's a mind game, right? Like you feel like because people are choosing you, oh well, I don't want to post anything, I don't want to do anything, but it's like, well, that's just gonna further this issue. Yeah, so and it's like if if you're slow, you should be you should be putting more out there. Yeah. And so, um, so yeah, are we talking a lot about books right now? Yeah. Are we talking a lot about parenting right now? Yeah.

Well, and we will be talking, I we've talked about it now um in between between the two of us. We've talked about it for gosh, maybe two months now of like, okay, we're gonna do an escrow escrow process uh episode. And and I I still we still want to, and I think what's gonna be really great about that episode, whether we play it before whether it's the episode before this or after this or whatever, wherever we land on the escrow process uh episode, whatever. Um I do enjoy educating still. I love educating, but I also notice that our education uh episodes do pour m pourer than these ones where we just chit-chat. Cheeky. Yeah. Yeah. People like this. And so I think it's good to have a mix though, so that when people need education on a certain thing, they can look it up, they can feel empowered, they can be educated. But I don't think there's anything wrong with us doing more of these talks and um and being human. Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, people like this. Definitely. Obviously, we like it. I threw out our complete plan for today.

Can I say too, I just need to toot our horns just a little bit. But I we recently had uh a potential client reach out, uh a former coworker of mine, and uh I talked with them, gave them the spiel, like, because they were like, uh, oh, we talked about this before in the podcast. They said that they are homeowner curious. I think such a cute. It is so cute, so cute. They were like, Oh, we're homeowner curious, or home buying curious, or whatever phrase they used. Uh, and so I was like, Yeah, absolutely. Let's sit down on over Zoom. I'm gonna go through the process with you, make sure that you understand what the process of home buying is, throw you over to Lenny or you know, or another lender if there's someone that is a better fit. But in this case, Lenny ended up being the right fit for them. And what's so awesome is we actually spoke. This client and I spoke before. Oh, yeah, yeah. This was like three years ago. Yeah, probably. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because they were one of the first people who let me do like a um like a buyer consult as like a test when I first moved to the real estate industry. It was so cute, they were so kind. And so, um, so yeah, and like when when I again was meeting with them in the present, I was like, hey, I know you talked to Lenny before, you know, I can we can connect you with her again if you really if you feel like you're a good fit, or if you feel like you want to talk to other lenders to see like, you know, what might be a good and they were like, oh no, Lenny, give give us Lenny. Like we want, we want Lenny. And so um talked to you, understood all of their numbers, went back to think about it, have decided once again that it's not the timing just doesn't work right now, which is totally, absolutely fine. Like, you know, it's all about the timing. Um, but it was so sweet when she when she reached out to me to let me know that they're not ready yet. She had so many amazing things. She said that we were like a power team and that she just loved how we complimented each other and how we were both so education foot forward. Yeah. And that uh working with us, she's like, you guys truly are the dream team.

I had another client who closed and wrote this amazing email, just like saying all these really kind words. And then I had another client ask for my address so that they can send me a thank you gift. That's so sweet. And so even during my slow times to just have those, and it is it helps propel you. It helps propel me and just like resolidifies that how I do things and and how I run my business is how I should be. Yes. Right? Yes. Um, because sometimes I do get in my head like, oh, maybe if I said less, I wouldn't scare people from purchasing, or maybe right? Right. But at the same time, when that client reached out to me, I don't want to be someone who lies to someone. I don't want to be someone who makes things sound easier than they are.

If I go to the farmer's market or the grocery store or anywhere and I run into someone, I want to know that they're possibly saying something good about me, right? And so I will over-educate you. I will be very honest about what your monthly payments are possibly gonna be. I'm gonna be very honest about how much you're gonna need for clothing or what the other options are and why they're good or why they're bad. And that's how I'm going to run my business. Yeah. I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, I'm not gonna make it sound easier than it is. Now I'm not gonna try and steer you away from anything like that. I I do think that home buying is a really good investment. I think that me buying a home when I was 23 was one of the best things I could have done for myself, right?

Because without that first home, I wouldn't be my current home. Yeah. Michael and I talk about that all the time. And I'm gonna be very honest, very, very honest. So I bought my home in In my current home in uh 20, I bought it December 31st of 2021. And so I bought it for 504,000. It's now worth about 580,000 and I owe $363,000. So it for me, this is a really good investment. And my payment, my mortgage payment, again, I'm being very honest with all of you. My mortgage payment, including my taxes and insurance, is a little bit under $2,400 a month. There's there's no way I couldn't have done that if I didn't invest in reality when I did. Yeah. Right. And so when I talk to people, I tr even though I'm very anti-capitalist in a lot of different ways, this is the society we live in. Right. You have to take advantage that we are under. Yes. Because I have this knowledge and this background, I'm going to do my best to help the real lay people move forward in it.

But again, I sleep really well at night knowing that if that's not the place that they're in for their family, that's okay.

Well, and that's I I had so I do as an agent, I've done eight transactions the last two years, which is like a good, it's a good amount for an agent. I know it sounds like a low amount, but um for an agent, if you if you're doing eight to twelve transactions a year, you're you're pretty solid. You kind of understand what's going on and yeah, can help your clients appropriately. Um and at the start of the year, I was on track to do that again this year. Yeah. And now I am gonna be lucky if I get to do half of that. I mean, we're still only halfway through the year. A lot can happen the second half of the year. But uh that was kind of a kick in the pants for me of like, oh, I'm gonna have a down year after two years of growth, I'm gonna have a down year. Well, it's being okay with that too.

Yeah, and let's not taking it personal. It's not personal. And let's also face it, we are in, and I feel like we talked about this so many times, and I feel like you hear it all the time. We are in unprecedented times. So on top of where interest rates are and everything, yeah, if you don't have to move, it's probably not best. It's probably not best, right? I mean, we are currently at war, which also doesn't help. We have like all these things that are currently happening that make it harder for people to make a big decision, right? And so these are just these are just where it's at. This is the reality. And so again, I'm gonna be really honest with people and people who do need to move or do need advice or need to do certain things, I'm here for you. I'm gonna help you as best I can. But I'm never gonna pressure somebody. That's not gonna be me.

Um, I don't like large tomatoes very much. I mean, they're good. And if you're talking about juicy, it's like, okay, I think it's just that I love cherry tomatoes so much. Like, I just I I sent my son out to the garden yesterday. He's like, I want, um, he's like, I want a bagel with cream cheese for dinner. I said, that's fine. Nice. Go out to the garden and pluck some uh cherry tomatoes too, and that's gonna be your healthy portion of your dinner. And so he went and he plucked a bunch, and I just like how poppable, like it's like candy. And then when they're like sun-drenched and they're still warm from the sunlight, it's just it's like eating candy. Yeah. And I like how poppable it is. And I I think that for the larger tomatoes, there's more work involved. That's true. Because you actually have to cut it and then figure out how you're gonna present it in incorporate it into a meal, and when it's just the cherries, it's just like, no, this is the snack, this is all it is, and it's entirety.

They're so good. And so I've been making something with my garden almost every day. Yeah. So I made a sandwich. So there's a neighbor in there's a woman in the neighborhood who makes sourdough bread. So I got my garlic sourdough bread. And then I have some sprouts that I've been growing in a jar. So sprouts are great, by the way. If you buy the seeds, you can grow them in a jar. Uh, you have to like drain out the water every day. Yeah. I do it twice a day, but it takes about five days and you have fresh sprouts. Okay.

So and they're not like more prone to bacteria or anything. Mm-mm. Okay. Because I I'm draining, I'm cleaning the water. The water.

So you're like twice a day. Rinsing up twice a day. Okay. But I have, so it's uh garlic from the neighbor, and then I have uh marscapone. I really like marscapone, and then I have pesto. So I have marscapone, pesto, and then I put the sprouts on it, and then I put the grape tomato on it and a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Delicious. Delicious. Been eating that a lot. Another thing I've been eating, I've been getting the golden beets from my garden because those have been ready. Oh, okay. I've been cutting those, slicing those up really thin. I've been putting that with uh basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar, and making a nice little salad with that. And then I I'm just using my garden right now, and I'm feeling like really cool.

But because he wants to plan and organize everything, um, I don't think I utilize it as much as I would if I were because if I if I were planting the garden, I'd be like, okay, and I have a plan for this, and I have a plan for this, and I have a plan for this. But he has a plan, which his plans are good. Like he wants to like pickle stuff and whatever, but um also sometimes like the beans, they just end up on our counter and then they all go bad before we can use them.

They would grow like crazy, and the kids and I would just go out and snack on those. For some reason, I don't know if like the the soil um like chemistry changed or whatever, but we haven't been able to grow them as well as we used to the last couple of seasons. Michael tried to like add nitrate. Oh, he tried to like swap out the planter boxes to like plant it in a different planter box than the year before to um, but for some reason, I don't know. I don't know if he's putting nitrate in. Yeah, because legumes need nitrate in the soil. I mean, the beans are the green beans are going ham this year. I don't know if he planted peas this year. Oh. He might not have done it this year. He might be trying to give the garden a break, but but it's but I feel like a lot of people like we we've talked about our neighborhood before.

Our neighborhood is very cute. Uh so I actually have uh some neighbor moms and their son coming over to today for dinner and swimming at my house. Awesome. And they were like, hey, you wanna swap tomatoes? So they're bringing tomatoes and we're gonna swap today. Oh, and so it's just like even with all the muck and mud of the world right now, I feel like there's still like really good things to like grasp onto. And I think community is one of them.

Well, I was just gonna say, last thing, last thing, last thing today. Uh, or it doesn't have to be, I don't know. Whatever you want to do. Um I'm reading one of the books I'm reading right now is Democracy in Retrograde. And it's about uh, and the chapter I read yesterday was on hopelessness, hopelessness in um in civic duty, hopelessness in whatever. And one of the questions they pose questions for you to think through and to process and stuff. And one of the questions was do you think differently about community versus like civic, like how things are moving in a civic form? Um and thinking on that, I I am more hopeful when it comes to community because community is more tangible, it's more like right here, it's what we can control. Yes. And I feel like a lot of times when it comes to politics, that things feel really out of control, yeah, or that uh money talks more than anything else. And when it comes to community, it's kind of the opposite. It's about bartering and taking care of one another and holding on to one another. And I just I think that's really beautiful. And I'm trying to hold on to that and remember and build community.
