Uncle Mike’s Book Club discusses Chapters 7–8 of Blood Bound from the Mercy Thompson series.
They discuss de facto rank changes in Adam’s pack over the years (and how that relates to Pokémon), a theoretical Pride Parade in the Tri-Cities, the origins of Uncle Mike’s Tavern, leaving a message on an answering machine, and, once again, how large Mercy’s single-wide trailer apparently is. After checking out Warren’s condition, Mercy gets a call from Marsilia to help defeat the sorcerer, and we finally meet Uncle Mike and learn how bad everything really is.
Random things mentioned: Pokémon (okay, a lot of Pokémon), Star Wars Rebels, Arrested Development (with Star Wars, somehow?), Out and About in Pasco (https://www.facebook.com/ClubOutAndAbout/), Police Academy and the Blue Oyster, Benson Bubblers in Portland (https://www.portland.gov/water/about-portlands-water-system/bubblers, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benson_Bubbler), old-style answering machine tapes, bounced cheques, a theoretical South Park crossover with Mercy Thompson, Star Wars Rebels and how boring Kanan Jarrus is (spoilers!), then crossing that over with Arrested Development just because we’re us, back to Pokémon, AFK (away from keyboard), Pokémon again and how sorcerers are super effective against werewolves… how Uncle Mike exists to answer all the readers’ “what about…?” questions, “Ask Uncle Mike if Effluvia Is Right for You,”
Listener question:
As always, there are potentially spoilers for every book published in the Mercy-verse: the short stories, the Mercy Thompson series, and the Alpha and Omega series (everything through Blind Date with a Werewolf, anyway). It’s okay if you aren’t caught up, as long as you’re okay with spoilers for books you haven’t read yet.

Intro
SPEAKER_01Welcome to She Who Wrenches, a mercy verse reread-along podcast. I'm Brittany. I'm Eric. And I'm Kelly. Today we're mostly talking about blood bound, but everything through Blind Date with a Werewolf is fair game, including fair game. Spoiler howl. Ow! In case you don't remember, this is the one where there's a demon-riding vampire and Mercy's life is saved by an insulting Christmas carol. We're gonna start with chapter seven after Recap
Recap Guy
SPEAKER_01Guy. And now it's time for Recap Guy!
SPEAKER_03Tom Black with the Lupine Post arrives at Mercy's garage inquiring about Adam and werewolf mating habits. Mercy says to check out Adam's Only Wolves page. Honey growlits at Mercy. Clearly not a Mercy fan.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I liked that one.
SPEAKER_03Mercy says it may sound corny, but Adam is a control freak on a leash, but a good alpha and dad. And then that's when we learn about Black's teen wolf and how he has to chain her up for her monthly visitor. Then Black pulls a gun on Mercy and says he would like to speak to the manager, so Mercy dials 1-800 Ask a Wolf and talks to Bran to try to find Tom's daughter a forever pack. Aww. And Honey changes into her wolf, and Tom Black is all, Where have you been? Nope.
SPEAKER_00I was with ya, and then you went there.
SPEAKER_03Nope. Nope. Tony and Mercy are having lunch using Gabriel's lunch money that Tony took from him while during his bully days at Gabriel's high school.
SPEAKER_00I like the headcanon of that. I'm keeping that. That's good.
SPEAKER_03Tony wants to know more about Zee and Adam, and Mercy says she could tell him, but then they would have to kill him.
SPEAKER_00That is the deal she made with the Faye.
SPEAKER_03And with the recent heat and violence spike, Tony asks if the Faye are responsible for the climate change. And Mercy says he shouldn't stir the Faye or he can iron kiss his ass goodbye. The judges will allow it. And then she also tells Tony to talk to Adam about the werewolves because he's a straight shooter and won't piss on his leg and tell him it's raining. And that's all I have recapped. Well, that's about all we covered.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That is one advantage to not getting very far in an episode is that we don't give we don't give recap guy a lot of room to operate.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we gotta shorten recap guy's leash.
Actually Start on Chapter 7: After Lunch with Tony
SPEAKER_01So after lunch, they go back to the shop and Gabriel's like, hey, Adam called and left a message. And of course, um, again, showing the time, Mercy didn't take her cell phone with her to lunch.
SPEAKER_03And she left her pager back there too.
SPEAKER_01And and so that's why Adam had to leave a message with somebody else, because she has a cell phone, but it was the days when maybe you didn't take it with you to lunch.
SPEAKER_03Ah, those were the days.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, it didn't play any. If it played a game, it was barely number one.
SPEAKER_03But then how do you talk to somebody at lunch when you're not on your cell phone?
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's an ancient skill.
SPEAKER_03Nowadays it's accepted that when you go to lunch with somebody, you just look at your phones.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was a different time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It was a simpler time. Before you just stare at your pager.
SPEAKER_00Potentially true.
SPEAKER_01But could you scroll only wolves?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, check your only wolves page.
SPEAKER_00Not on your pager, sadly.
SPEAKER_03Whoa, check out this wolf. He's got eight pasties on.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Okay. Yes, move on.
SPEAKER_03That went off the rails quickly.
SPEAKER_00Meanwhile, back at the airport Ramada. Yes.
SPEAKER_01What Adam called to say was Warren's in bad shape. Come to my house. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER_00Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
SPEAKER_01Do not. And Mercy's like, oh, hey, uh, maybe nobody thought to call Kyle. Guess what? Nobody did.
SPEAKER_03And they apparently weren't dating at the time, which I had forgot.
SPEAKER_01They were like kind of on the outs, but still kind of liked each other, I think. I think it was icy. That it was like, oh, you lied to me, and blah, blah, blah. Um, but we haven't really been around for that whole period. So Kyle comes like right over.
SPEAKER_00Also, did not Pasco did not collect $200.
SPEAKER_03I think they arrived at about the same time, too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because they walk in together, don't they? Yeah, they go in together.
SPEAKER_03Well, wasn't there the bouncer saying?
SPEAKER_01Don't you come in, she's not back.
SPEAKER_00Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Honey, after their previous encounter, defends mercy as part of the back.
SPEAKER_00Throws hands. Wait, let me try that. Throws paws.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, throws paws.
SPEAKER_00Goes and is like, yeah, I'm a I'm a bit messed up, but like this is the right thing to do. I really appreciated the moment of like sort of realizing where in the hierarchy everything kind of actually is, and is like, I don't like, you know, I don't like it, but is still putting pack first, so is still kind of helping. This doesn't have anything to do with how you feel about her because he claimed her in front of everybody. And so whether you like it or not, you know, she gets into the champagne room. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And and I don't remember who this guy is. Yeah, neither do you want.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know if he gets a name. Like, I can't remember. I just feel like yeah, he's just, you know, some dude.
SPEAKER_01But like, if you fast forward to now in the current released books, there's no way she doesn't outrank him. Right. But this is before they took a different look and started like rearranging um for sex. So now she's like behind, I think she's behind uh Daryl. And then it goes, I mean, no, Daryl and then Warren theoretically.
SPEAKER_00Um Well, because Warren wished it so, I think is where that is. Yeah, Adam. And then like it goes, Adam, Daryl, Warren, asterisk at Warren's pleasure.
SPEAKER_01And even like, even now, just in the last like book, probably Sherwood's sort of fake rank is also going to be somewhere right below Warren, but above Honey. It's sort of like But still, no matter who this guy is, now Honey outranks him. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like there needs to be like halves, I feel like. And you know, you can be second and a half or third and a half, you know, because it's like, I know I don't outrank this person, but the next person down, I know I outrank you, but I don't think I get the the whole number to like slide into that spot.
SPEAKER_01Funny, because like Adam's pack, more than it seems like any other pack, has started to adopt more like true dominance. Yeah. But by having the females go in, except they have these two weird ass outliers.
SPEAKER_03Kelly got a joke or something there. True dominance.
SPEAKER_00It's it's um well, it's it's battling in Pokemon Go. It's when it's the meta of what's happening in the pack right now was all I could think of. So that's what it is. Like, somebody got a new moveset, and now suddenly they're fourth.
SPEAKER_03Or also now that Adam's got that monster, he does a fusion. Oh, even abused Kyram if ever I saw one. Or Zamzenta.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Zamzenta.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I'm going Kiram because that monster, black monster. It's a monster. And it's black.
SPEAKER_01Zamazenta is a little more elegant. Yeah. I think.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, even it's much nicer.
SPEAKER_01It has an emphasis on defense, whereas I don't think that defense is Adam's monster's primary uh MO.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure it knows the definition of.
SPEAKER_03It is just all attack all the time. Hey, we start a new podcast, Pacquymango.
SPEAKER_00Oh, is he out now? I think that's it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm gonna go. It took a while. But now you hear it.
SPEAKER_00It took a while, actually, longer than I thought. It really did. Um, apparently we were feeling really generous today. But yeah, it's like the seasons of Pokemon Go battling. Uh something gets a new moveset, and now all of a sudden it's like the top-ranking that type Pokemon when you're doing stuff. Like, that's exactly what's happening. Is like Honey picked up a new moveset, and now she's like way higher in the pack.
SPEAKER_01Sherwood got a new moveset called Remembers Who the Hell He Is.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Called Reverse Amnesia. And yeah.
SPEAKER_01And all of a sudden, he's ranking number one.
SPEAKER_00So what's Pirate's rank? Because I think even Pirate outrights this dude on the steps.
SPEAKER_01Oh, probably, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Back to uh Warren's injuries. Meanwhile, at the airport Ramada, which is now just gonna, I'm gonna make that a thing, and it's just gonna be the catchphrase for yeah, we've gone really far afield, and let's get back to the actual story we're discussing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They go in, and Honey actually seems really happy to meet Kyle.
SPEAKER_00Like And mentions, like, he's talked about you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm so I'm so happy to meet you. And Warren is not recognizable as Warren expensive smell. Yeah. Messed up. Because he is in such a bad way.
SPEAKER_03He's had some work done.
SPEAKER_01And not in the good way. Not the good way.
SPEAKER_03Worked over.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Somebody, somebody gave him the business and he was in that dumpster fire.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Jeez.
SPEAKER_00Is that a joke about how he was found in a dumpster?
SPEAKER_03Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00That was really there's a whole bunch that goes on there, and I sort of really enjoyed imagining the conversations between like Warren and Honey about whatever that would lead to Warren talking about Kyle in the first place. Just it completely changes, I mean, depending what you thought of it, if you thought about it much at all, changes the dynamic between Honey and like all these other people, and you sort of get this additional piece of information, you know, that kind of characterizes like, oh yeah, here's a reminder that like all of these people have relationships that don't have anything to do with Adam directly, anything to do with Mercy directly, you know, like yeah, honey and Warren having a relationship has nothing to do with Daryl, has nothing to do with Kyle, aside from the fact that they may come up as conversational topics. And like those kind of reminders and seeing kind of the the results of that interaction. It's not fallout because it's not bad, but like the the the ripples
Is Kyle the Whole Tri-Cities Pride Parade?
SPEAKER_00out from the fact that they have this relationship and got along well enough for Warren to be like, I I have a sweetheart and he is fabulous because you are, I think, legally disallowed to call Kyle anything else. So it's possible. Yeah, I think Kennewick may have passed a law. Okay, it's possible. Yeah. I mean, I think he is the pride parade in Kennewick as far as it goes. Yeah, he like just takes the top off the car and drives real slow down Clearwater Avenue on an afternoon in June with Dick and Jane in the back. That's the parade. Okay. All right. And I'm absolutely imagining that now. So uh enjoy that, people who know anything about Tri-Cities. Uh yeah. Kyle cruising along in front of Columbia Center. Like, yep. That's what's
The Actual Building That Inspired Uncle Mike’s
SPEAKER_00up.
SPEAKER_01Actually, if we're gonna talk about repressiveness in the Tri-Cities, it might be a fine time to mention, in case people don't know, the building that inspired Mike's Uncle Mike's tavern was a gay bar that was a little undercover so that it wouldn't, you know, was it had this aura of secrecy around it.
SPEAKER_00It is aggressively inconspicuous.
SPEAKER_01It is trying.
SPEAKER_00And even now it has a sign out the front that says out and about, but it still is like But in life, there are no windows. If you give it a clever enough name, people will just chalk it up to be in a strip club and leave it alone. Or walk in and be very unpleasantly surprised. You know, police academy movie style, the blue oyster. The blue oyster. Yeah. So like it's gonna be one or the other, but like, yeah, I re uh I think I carried because it's in Pasco. This is the other piece of information about Uncle Mike's, is that the actual Uncle Mike's is in Pasco. And I believe when we were there, I said it was like we may not want to linger because the cops might be suspicious of a lady driving an automobile.
SPEAKER_01I did feel like we got some looks standing out taking pictures with our walking stick.
SPEAKER_00I mean, standing in front of a building with a stick and posing for a photo, I mean, yeah. That's unusual even by Portland standards, but like nobody's gonna pull you over for it. And in Pasco, I cannot guarantee that won't be the case.
SPEAKER_01That is unusual for Portland standards. I have walked down the streets dressed like a Jedi without people betting an eye in Portland.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, because it's yeah, but you weren't posing for a photo, that's my point.
SPEAKER_01I I was actually.
SPEAKER_03Well, not when you're walking down the street, that's my point. Looking at bestie bubblers.
Benson Bubblers
SPEAKER_01For anybody who knows Portland, my nibbling thought that uh Benson bubblers were called Bessie Bubbles. Big old Bessie Bubbles.
SPEAKER_00Which I think is a better name. Like, let's be fair. It is, it is a better name.
SPEAKER_01It is, which are like fancy drinking fountains, is the best description. They are, yeah. Meanwhile, at the airport Romana. Oh, Samuel says that like Warren can survive if he has a reason to fight. So like keep talking to him. So Kyle just sits right down on the floor and starts like telling him stories about playing baseball.
SPEAKER_00I played little league baseball as a kid, and I feel like all of the stories Kyle was telling could have been stories about me playing T-ball. I wasn't, I really, I was 100% enthusiasm, 0% technique. I enjoyed it, but like a lot of like very young kids, you know, like whoever you put out in in right field would sit down and like pick flowers out of the grass, things like that. Like, yeah, it was very much a bunch of kids being outside for an extended period of time. Uh, and if a group activity that is coordinated happens as a result, you know, so much the better, but like nobody's holding their breath, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, my dad was my t-ball coach in second and third grade, and he'd have us go play cat, you know, play catch or do running drills or something, and he'd go out to his truck and have a beer and a bong hit. I don't think I knew he was the coach. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is that I I think that might be all t-ball coaches, but I'm not 100% sure I think so. Maybe more most of them are s were subtle about it. Maybe in the 80s, maybe in the 80s it was just you know, understood that that was what was happening.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Team Mascot was a bong, which is seemed wrong, but we didn't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so Kyle's telling T-ball stories.
SPEAKER_03So the Ramadan.
SPEAKER_00Probably about the tragedy of the uniforms is probably his starting point. Yeah. If and I had to guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if you're giving Kyle enough credit. It sounds like he was pretty serious about it, but you know.
SPEAKER_00I mean, he could have really meant it and still just sucked rocks.
SPEAKER_01Because like I, that was totally it's possible, but I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00He also could have no. Yeah. We don't we never really get to hear any of the stories, and now I'm just kind of curious about Kyle's checkered baseball past. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Whereas he's like, Well, did Stefan come back? And because they were all out hunting Littleton together, and then like a female voice is like, No, she he never came back, and then hangs up very softly.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because she called, yeah, she calls the house. Yeah, she calls hi. Yeah. I also appreciated this is another one of those moments, like
Back at Adam’s with a Very Injured Warren
SPEAKER_00an answering machine that people can hear while this is happening. Like, let's start with the landline. Number one, she called the house. Number two, there is an answering machine that is the old style answering machine where you can hear, you know, whatever the greeting is, and then, you know, whatever silly thing you bought off the TV to be the funny recording on your voicemail, and then you can hear the person recording the message to tape. Ask your parents. And it is really it was a thing when I like the first time through the books, I was like, oh yeah, that was a that was totally a thing. Because you could listen and then tell, like, do I want to pick up this call or not? Like, it was really nice. Because in the days before caller ID, you didn't have an option. So somebody heard her calling, and I also liked that she sort of went in presuming that's what was gonna happen, and was like, We're looking for Stefan and we want to know. And yeah, somebody comes back and's like, well no, and then like failed.
SPEAKER_01One time Caitlin and I used it on purpose and recorded like a long phone conversation that was like a story, and like it was a murder mystery, but like we didn't know that going in. I don't even know why we started recording it. I don't remember that. But then it sounded like a good idea at the time. A reverse murder mystery, and I'm sad I don't know where that tape went. That's a bumper, because that would be cool. We did some weird stuff with that, like on purpose. Anyway, meanwhile, the airport Romata.
SPEAKER_03We need a sting for the airport remotta, like the Batman thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh
Answering Machines with Tapes
SPEAKER_00yeah, so Stefan has evaporated. Like, we don't know where he is. Uh, I don't know if Mercy checked her closet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's true. Which one? Because it's a mobile home. It's got a bunch of huge closets.
SPEAKER_01Lots of storage space.
SPEAKER_00He could be asleep upstairs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Anywhere. Or in the basement.
SPEAKER_00Perhaps in the basement.
SPEAKER_03Bathroom closet?
SPEAKER_00Because it was huge. The bathroom closet. So that we amuse ourselves. So he's so for all we know, he's napping in the east wing of Mercy's single wife.
SPEAKER_01The east wing of the single leg.
SPEAKER_00Yes, the east wing of the single leg.
Is Stefan in the Spacious East Wing of the Single-Wide Trailer?
SPEAKER_01So Adam's like, well, look, Stefan had already been kind of dominated by Littleton before, when you know, you were goth coyote. And so Warren, that means Warren's the best potential fighter, and that's the one that he's returning.
SPEAKER_00And and we only know him because we can smell him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. So he's like, this is a challenge, and you know what happens if you challenge a alpha?
SPEAKER_00And he's given us the mindset of this guy. That was the other thing that was interesting about this. Was like, I took your best dude and did this so there would be enough to return to you. Ha ha. Like, and he's like mocking them and not not taking them seriously as any kind of threat. So we get a little profiler from Adam on that front. And I just remember thinking, like, everything we know about Warren is uh that he's a badass. And that he has managed to survive a very long time as a marginalized member of a marginalized community of a marginalized community. If we know three things about him, the third thing is he's badass. This is so this is what has happened to him. He's been basically reduced to rubble by the ray of sunshine Corey that you know is is running around town, you know, bouncing bouncing checks and making mayhem everywhere he goes. Because this is still the era of bounced checks while we're while we're making jokes about people in their pagers.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Also, Stefan's a very old vampire and he fell to it twice.
SPEAKER_00I don't think we knew at the time, but we know now he can teleport and he couldn't get himself out of that situation fast enough to not to not get got. So he's MIA.
SPEAKER_03And Ben is MIA.
SPEAKER_00We have no idea. Literally, not hide nor hair of Ben has been found anywhere. For all we know, he dead. And for all we know about Stefan, he dead. And all we've got is like the last little bit of Warren, and that's who we're can't say anything. He can't anything, anything.
SPEAKER_03Nope, he can't anything.
SPEAKER_01He can occasionally breathe.
SPEAKER_03He can't even.
SPEAKER_00Literally can't even. In this case. Literally can't even.
SPEAKER_01Uh so Mercy talks to Adam, like, hey, so what do you know about demons? And he like gives her some actual information, but then also is like, yeah, but did you see what he did to Warren? Maybe don't go after Littleton. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Maybe, maybe this is not one for you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It makes me sad when Mercy's like lashing out at Kyle.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01Like worse monsters, but it was like, no, really, like what what his issue was was being lied to.
SPEAKER_03Um Yeah, she turned into Cartman.
SPEAKER_01Like, goddammit, cow.
SPEAKER_03South pack.
SPEAKER_02Oh no! Oh no. Oh no.
SPEAKER_00So another podcast. That's what I'm gonna be thinking about all afternoon. Yeah. Coming soon. A new t-shirt design from smokescreen printing. Yeah. Yeah. South pack. Yeah, Southpack.
SPEAKER_01Uh and then Adam like kind of like uses the alpha mojo to calm her down, and then she's like, damn it, he did it again.
SPEAKER_03You killed Stefan, you bastard.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_03But he comes back because he's undead. He just comes back every episode. Yeah, he's undead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, it does work. It kind of works.
SPEAKER_00See, it really does. Yeah, like I said, this is what's stuck in my head the rest of the afternoon, so I know what Eric's next shirt design is gonna be. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh honey hangs out next to Kyle with a bruise on her face because Guy done put her in her theoretical place that won't actually be her place for long. Paul comes in, and we get lots of opportunities to not like Paul. Basically, up until he dies, we don't like Paul, and then we're like, oh, you're kind of cool. Oh no, you're dead. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Wait, did he turn decent? Oh no, he turned dead. Bummer.
SPEAKER_01He was it was a little bit like like spoilers for uh uh Star Wars Rebels, but um the Jedi I found boring. And and I was like, oh, he's really interesting in this episode. And Eric goes, he's gonna die in this episode. Sure did.
SPEAKER_03And I didn't know that ahead of time, I don't think.
SPEAKER_01Like, he's gonna die. He's too interesting. He's like the Anne of Jedi, and then like all of a sudden, all of a sudden I was like, oh, look at him being all interest. Oh, bye.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he went to the Milford Jedi Academy. Oh no. Everybody knows a Milford Jedi.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. Instead of losing a hand, he loses his eyes. Yeah. Okay, so how many crossovers are we at? Back at the Ramada. So Paul comes in and is like, hey.
SPEAKER_03Did Tom Warren?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like with the attitude that he's gonna challenge him, and Adam's like, hey, when he's recovered and he's healthy, you can challenge him. And Paul looks stoked because he thinks he's gonna beat Warren because he totally doesn't understand how dominant Warren is or what a badass he is.
SPEAKER_00I do appreciate his entrance. Like when he's dead, I get his stuff. Like, you know, like I'll just take his desk. I get all the toys in his cubicle. Like what? You know? Like that's really how he comes in. Very, very like mercenary about it, you know? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, and Mercy's like, oh, there's not a lot of like really sanctioned fights, which I feel like maybe isn't true later, but whatever.
SPEAKER_00Like, oh, that's really unusual, but she also knows that uh Warren will don't wipe the floor with basically anybody up to and probably including Daryl. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, probably not including Sherwood, but yes. Weird pack.
SPEAKER_00Uh he yeah, he's meta.
SPEAKER_01We don't there's also no Sherwood at this point.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, also Sherwood just take off his leg and beat him over the head with it. He's like the Arceus of Pokemon.
SPEAKER_00That is true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I say that like I really know that much about Arceus because I've only played Pokemon Go.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, we can finish a chapter. I swear. Yeah, we're gonna get a chapter, right? We do get confirmation that uh Ben is AFK. We have no idea where he is. No one knows for certain. We also uh hear about how um in the process of like Mercy making the call to the answering machine, we've got no Ben, and we get the story of literally Warren was found in a dumpster, and Uncle Mike called and was like, Hi, I've got something to return to you. And it's not because you left your credit card at the bar when you went home last night. And Samuel ends up on the scene like assessing the situation to let us know there are reasons he's not healing, and a lot of it is like like silver-based, and so Yeah, he's cut with a silver blade. Yeah, and then and then we get to the point where like, okay, so now we've got Warren in front of us. We know Ben is nowhere to be found. For all we know, Stefan is asleep in the East Wing, and and who's left? Oh, right, nobody. This is exactly how far we up we are, up a creek without a paddle. And this dude is still at large, and it is still stupidly hot in town, and people are still losing their minds. What little bit Mercy knows about this is basically that she should not be telling anybody else anything about this, because it will end badly for them too. This is the end of the two towers when everything is dark, and the bad guys are winning, and it does not look like that's gonna change, roll credits. That's where we're at right now.
SPEAKER_01And then, so like after a while, Mercy goes home because there's only so much she can help and she gets to sleep and stuff. And so she does, she's not doing great, and in her not feeling great about stuff, uh, stress cleaning in in her dark hour, who is to call but Marsilia, the vampire queen. Because her day was going so well up until this moment. Yeah, awesome. And I really enjoy that her first thought, because I know I know many people in my life who this is a pet peeve for is please hold. I called you, but please hold while I get other people, other person on the phone. And I I love I love Mercy's poor choice of response, but I still love it of well, you can tell her to F off and hangs out the phone. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Let me tell you where to put your hold music. Thanks, bye.
SPEAKER_03Does this sound like a dial tone?
SPEAKER_01Oh, you missed those? Yeah. Dial tones? I feel like people still know what they are because they're still in movies, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, ask your parents. I did like the the moment of like Marsilia just being a bridge to melon farming far today.
SPEAKER_01Like, it really just gave me like uh uh until Marsilia says the magic words we need your help to kill the sorcerer. Ooh, now Mercy gets to play with the bigger. If she'd said anything else, Mercy probably would have hung up the phone again.
SPEAKER_00Yep. She gets to go tap dance on a landmine.
Back to Warren Again, and Cory’s Profile (Start Chapter 8 with Uncle Mike)
SPEAKER_01There's no way we're finishing this chapter, but I want to start it because we can. Yes. So they're gonna meet at Uncle Mike's, the Fay Bar, where things people meet to do things that are exciting.
SPEAKER_00Where not necessarily people meet to do things that are exciting.
SPEAKER_01Oh, where uh creatures meet. Anyway, sentient creatures drink there. Beings. Beer. Mix well. The Faye bouncer is not a fan. And says humans aren't allowed in here. Get the behind me human. Yes. Yeah. Get some bae magic going. And um Uncle Mike comes out and stops it, which it turns out is good because it was gonna be some death spell. It was a death.
SPEAKER_03He was gonna kill her just because.
SPEAKER_00A shiny ball of death because he couldn't even either today, apparently.
SPEAKER_01Like, yeah. It turns out there's a lot of can't even happen in the Tri-Cities with the sorcerer in town. Who knew?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I know. It's wild.
SPEAKER_00It is. It's really crazy.
SPEAKER_01So Uncle Mike has a chat with Mercy.
SPEAKER_00And is this our first scene really talking to Uncle Mike? Like it's the first time we get him at we get him at length. We recognize he's the dude that runs the place, but that's really all we get before now.
SPEAKER_01I've heard Patty in an interview saying, Uncle Mike is there so that people don't say, but what about? So people aren't like, okay, the sorcerer's driving you crazy. Why can't you just have these magical creatures that live nearby take care of it? And he's a good idea. Which is exactly Mercy's question. Yeah. All the questions, because Mercy's gonna ask those questions for us, the audience. And I really like that, but also I like Uncle Mike and how he handles them.
SPEAKER_00I and I I appreciated that she was asking all those questions, you know, um, but really went toe-to-toe with him about it. Like, you know, if you could bother, then maybe we wouldn't have this problem, you know.
SPEAKER_03That's where we get to my favorite word. Fluvia. Like so much a fluvia. And he starts laughing at Mercy. Mercy's like, what's what's so funny about a fluvia? Yeah. It's like it's it's a way it rolls off the tongue of fluvia.
SPEAKER_00It's really just I didn't know mechanics had a word a day calendar. And it turns out if you work on Volkswagens, it pays to enrich your word power. So yeah, for that one, you're gonna have to ask your grandparents. But anyway. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I mean, a lot of a fluvia rolls off my tongue when I'm working on a car.
SPEAKER_00Is any of it a fluvia? If you step on a Lego, is that the first word that comes to mind?
SPEAKER_01I feel like no. Yeah, fluvia. Uh the toddler in our life has started saying, in response to how much Eric has been talking about this, started saying, I don't like a fluvia. Yeah. I don't like fluvia. I don't like that.
SPEAKER_03I don't like that.
SPEAKER_00I mean you're not supposed to, so ask Uncle Mike if a fluvia is right for you.
SPEAKER_01Uh he says everyone's on a killing edge. And and he says, hey, uh, so the death toll's way higher than you think it is. Yep. And the reason that the Faye can't do anything is uh they're also susceptible to the maybe not as susceptible as werewolves, but they are still susceptible to the sorcerer, as demonstrated by the bouncer who tried to kill you for trying to come in. Yeah. And the Greylords have said, nope, can't touch this.
SPEAKER_00Two things you need to know is, yeah, they went full MC hammer on all the bay. Can't touch this. Yep. And yeah, oh, you think it's only, I don't remember what number she gives him, but like, oh, you think it's only 18 people. That's adorable, basically.
SPEAKER_03It's like triple that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, which is also kind of like also, you know, another sort of big piece of information, sort of casually unloaded, that, you know, oh, it's way more people than you thought. And there's probably more. The number you thought it was is bad. The number we know about is way worse, and we still can't guarantee that that's everybody.
SPEAKER_01And that's the direct kills, not the like we've made everyone around us super mad and try to kill each other.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And now everybody's worked up, and yeah. So that huge thing sort of gets kind of casually lobbed at Mercy. But also, while we're here, this is where Mercy discovers the scene of the crime. Cause she's like, wait, oh yeah. It smells like Warren up in this piece. Uh-huh. Because he was left in the Uncle Mike. It's dumpster. Because they left him out back. Uncle Mike also said the other interesting piece was like, we're not supposed to go because it's bad for us. But don't take any of your other friends because it'll be super worse for the wolves.
SPEAKER_01That sorcerers are really, really, really bad for werewolves in particular. They cannot control themselves. Yeah, they're super not great for us, which is why we're supposed to sit this out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, wolves are double weak to sorcerers, apparently.
SPEAKER_01That's what it is. Sorcerers are super effective. Yeah, super effective.
SPEAKER_03Use a supercharged effect against Warren.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like Ice and Rayquaza, man. Man, it really is. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, we'll hear more about Rayquaza on Rivermart.
SPEAKER_00This does not surprise me in the least, but I love that we stumbled into the Pokemon Go metaphor for everything. So, for people who are new to the show, um, yeah, that's not going away. Just so we're we've just calved our audience. Yeah. Just heads up. Yeah. Um, and this is all even outside. Like, Mercy rolled up to the bar, and then we have this conversation, and even still, and then she's like, okay, fine. Like, if everybody here has all their knickers in a twist, then will you go, will you do me a favor and go tell Marsilia that like I'm not allowed and I'll just hang in the parking lot until she figures out her next move or whatever, you know. Like, so then he's like, Okay, fine, I'll let you like I don't know what you're up to, but I guess I'll I guess I'll keep an eye on you and make sure you get in. So he takes her inside.
SPEAKER_01We should probably stop before the actual Marsilias so that uh we can go about the rest of our lives.
SPEAKER_03Go play some Pokemon Go.
SPEAKER_01So we made it part way to chapter eight.
SPEAKER_02We're getting about a chapter episode, okay?
SPEAKER_01Plowing through it. So thank you for joining us. Next time we're gonna pick up on till chapter eight. Um but we finally made it into the bar. We we have made it into Uncle Mike's. We finally made it past the affluvia, which I feel like we've been talking about for two months at our house. So I think we have.
SPEAKER_03And we're maybe next time we'll level up.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I was there a month ago and we were talking about it then.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's a fluvia. It's a fluvia. Uh so thanks for joining us. Um, farewell howl.
