Hello, hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to another episode of the Let's Talk podcast. My name is Hannah Covington, and I am so glad to be back with you in officially the new year, even though by the time this comes out, we'll be a couple months into the new year. Because I am a person who is way ahead and had a bunch of content ready for the launch of the podcast on January 1st. Not the ideal plan of when I wanted to release, but there was other big things happening in live, which required me to pick another day of the week to launch this lovely podcast. I might change days of the week. Who knows? But right now I am aiming for episodes to be out once a week on Thursdays at some point. So if you're gonna be an avid listener, that is the day of the week you need to be prepared for. Had zero interest in reading. And most of this reading was happening on my Kindle. There was one whole month I did not finish a single book because my month was so crazy. Which is sad because I think it would have bumped me up to at least 22, 22 books. That's being generous. Because when December 31st hit, I was on my 20th book. Do you think I can read a book in a day? No, I cannot. So that book has bled into the new year. So I was on my 20th book that will turn into my first book of 2026. But getting back to what is my book goal reading this year, I have dropped it down to 50. I probably say it's probably another unreasonable goal. Maybe. And it kind of dived off in college because I had to do a lot of reading for my classes, which was not fun. But yeah, it was one of those hobbies I've been trying to get back into. Some people find it not as a hobby. It is a hobby for me, a very relaxing hobby. Some people think hobbies need to be sports or doing something when reading can be a hobby. That you get to just sit and not go anywhere and read for hours on end, which I have gotten to do over the holidays leading up to Christmas and after Christmas. I literally got to spend hours reading on New Year's Day, which was oh so amazing. And even New Year's Eve, that is, I think the reason I was able to stay up because I read for over three hours, which was amazing. I hadn't done that in forever. The last time I probably read that long was if I was on a road trip down to Balling Green, which has been a very long time, by the way. And usually I was listening to an audiobook with not the accompaniment of the book beside me. So that yeah, it's I have to just find a good book and get into a good system of reading, which is really a great goal to have because there is a ton of books out. You can find books to read and s and series, because there's a lot of good series you can read. I am re-picking up a series if that gives you any bit of a hint. I had read part of this series, and the new season of it is coming out on Netflix pretty soon, and I will be doing an episode on it, and so I had to restart over the books because it had been such a long time, and I'm gonna be comparing the TV show and the book series of which is b which is better, the book or the TV series. Now that's gonna be a fun episode because I hope I can remember everything. I might be recording and coming back to it slowly. So this that will be a coming together episode. I am so excited to do that episode. That might be a couple parters episode. I don't know. I don't know the plans. I'll just have to wait and see see. Yeah, wait and see. My other goal other than reading 50 books on top of it is I have I did this back about six years ago with a group of people when I was in college right before COVID started. We did this and we got to do it together together as a group through an app. And I finished it, and I enjoyed doing it. It was a year-long process and very, very fun doing it with people, and that is I'm gonna reread the whole Bible. It's been X amount of years, I know I can do it, and I'm like, it had just crossed my brain one day of how about I just reread the Bible? I hope I'm not turning people off, but yeah, that is another one of my goals is to reread the Bible. I feel like I can accomplish it. It might be hard, but I feel like I can do it. And hopefully I get it accomplished and I don't like fall off the bandwagon because it is very hard because there is some hard books to get through in the Bible. I'm not gonna talk about that journey on this podcast. I might talk about it on my other podcast I do with a another person. I might talk about it then, but overall those are all the goals I set, and they are some interesting goals I have set because we don't need to fully depend on technology at the end of the day. In order to be happy, we just need to explore our imagination. Is what I'm simply trying to get at is we need to let our imagination run ramp rampant and not be on social media 24-7 and become one of those trolling trolls of always being on our screens 24-7. It's okay to scroll every once in a ra while. I am guilty of it too. I'm just trying to find new avenues of spending time not on social media. And what else do I want to accomplish before I get off this topic? Of course, grow this podcast because I launched it on New Year's Day officially. The trailer came out a hint before Christmas, and the first episode came out on New Year's Day, so yeah, growing the podcast is one of my goals. So I have a lot of goals I want to get accomplished in the new year, and I'm ready to get these goals underway, and I'm glad you guys are on the journey with me and hope you enjoy the episode. And let's move on to what today's true topic is, which is of course about something pop culture related, even though I had to have a real life talk session first, is I know everybody went to the movies over Christmas, because there were a lot of films that came out this Christmas season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I know we went to the movie theaters at least twice before the New Year hit. Um actually even before Christmas hit because I had a free Sunday, which is very, very rare, but with the holiday season, it was easier to not have youth close to the end of the month, and I literally have gotten to enjoy some free Sundays. As of lately, we won't get back onto the normal schedule until the kids are back in school. Isn't that the truth is we don't get back onto normal schedule until kids are back in school and back into sports. Even though the sports were rampant during during winter break, we had a bunch of tournaments. That's when they do all the mini tournaments during the winter break. I have covered a plenty of those. But I am not talking about that, not gonna talk about that. I'm getting back to what I was saying was this was a good time to go out to the movies between Thanksgiving and New Year. I know we made two trips to the movie theater. I have already talked about that first movie. Please go back to my episode before this, which will drop before this episode, which is I already talked about wicked part two in some of Wicked Part One, and that was the first movie we saw in theaters. If you want to hear my thoughts on that, please go listen to that episode. But after we went and saw that movie, and we were out to dinner at a restaurant after the movie, and we had watched all these movie trailers, and we were deciding was there any more movies we wanted to wanted to see that holiday season? And we were going through the list, we had that new avatar movie that came out. Now, did we need another avatar movie? No, we were we were good after the water one came out. We didn't need the fire one, but there are people that are fans of the more modernized avatar. I am not one of them. It's okay. We can all be fans of the Avatar series. And it's totally fine. I am not a fan. I went and saw The Water One, not a fan. But the trailer, the trailer came out for that film. As we were sitting through all the trailers, you have to watch before a film starts. And when we were talking, what were some of the movies we were thinking about? Avatar was on the list, but we all agreed we didn't want to see that. Didn't have an interest. If my niece had stayed long enough, we would probably had to go see it. And we said that's not high on our list. Another one was Hamnet? Am I saying that correctly? Yes, I am talking about Hamnet. Hamnet was one of those films I have not really heard about until it was brought up of films to go see in theaters. Was I open to maybe going to see it? I was like, mmm, possibly. But I'm trying to process of what are all the films that we could all go see and not argue about what would be good and what would be bad. Yes, we're at that point of there's films some of us want to see and some of us do not want to see. We have gotten to that point of maybe two of us want to go see a film and someone else does not. Or somebody go sees a film and before the other people can go see it. We're just at that stage of life. I am the more flexible one in being able to re-watch stuff. Whereas most of the time I am told by certain family members to go watch it on my own if they go see it without me. And that's totally fine. But um I was I'm always like, really? You went and saw it without me? And didn't tell me, but it's okay, it's fine. And the other film, other than Hamnet, which maybe I will get around to renting and watching Hamnet at some time at some point, I don't know. It sounds like an interesting film, it sounds like it's getting decent reviews. Sounds like it might even be up for awards, possibly. If I'm understanding correctly at this point, I don't know. And I don't even know if it'll it'll probably be out of theaters by the point I get this episode out. So I don't know. But the other film that was brought up that caught our attention, other than the Michael Jackson movie that will be coming out in spring of 2026, which we're all excited to go see. And my certain family members did not know about. this film really until I started talking about it and they had seen the trailer while we waited for our movie to start. There they were like, I didn't know they were making a Michael Jackson film. And I was like, yeah, I'd known about it for a while, probably a year. They talked about it when they had first announced the idea of the film and then it died for a while. A good while. And then oh how how do I say this? I listen to more radio shows that talk pop culture where my parents do not and so I knew about this. I had known about it for over a year and they had not and so they were completely surprised and shocked and I was like yeah I know the facts of who got casted and why it's such a big deal and why there's high expectations for this film which when it comes out it will have high expectations I'm not going to get into it. I'm probably going to do an episode on it because I'll probably go see it in theaters but it was one of those we were like yeah we'll probably go see it. And the film that was brought up after that that is the topic of this episode even though we have talked about everything under the sun because you gotta talk about a lot of things but the main topic of this is the Neil Diamond movie that came out Song Sung Blue and we all agreed we wanted to go see it it has had mixed reviews I think it's because of casting of why it has mixed reviews because some people might not like certain people cast at certain people and that's okay I think this is the hardest type of films to do are these move like music movies of music legends even though this was a cover band of Neil Diamond if you watched it you know what I'm talking about which it was an amazing story. I thought Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson did an amazing job covering the main characters of the film they nailed it out of the park in my eyes some people might disagree but that's okay what inspired me to go see this film I think because there is I like a good music like a music movie of some sort and this one caught my attention and also it was an artist you would never think of getting a film no one ever thinks oh Neil Diamond ever and especially it being a cover band there this is probably the first cover band movie to be ever made out of all these music movie interpretations that I have seen since first going to see Bohemian Rhap City when that came out which has been years and years ago pre-COVID wow that long ago it's always caught my interest of watching these types of films. I've seen quite a few of these the only one I think I have not seen was Priscilla which is about Elvis Presley's wife but it was one of those I just didn't have time but but that is a type of film that always catches my interest and my thoughts on the film were were they did a good job covering the couple lightning and thunder who were a Neil Diamond cover band who sang Neil Diamond songs very well and why they wanted to do this cover band was the husband felt that all these people know Neil Diamond for is Sweet Caroline and he wanted to highlight that Neil Diamond also had a lot of other amazing songs that are never highlighted and I'm glad somebody like Lightning wanted to bring that forward because it brings up a good fact of there are artists that become just one hit wonders but also have a lot of amazing music before and after and it needs to be highlighted and that's what the movie I feel like addressed and I really like that part of the film and also they talked about the struggles of being a cover band and trying to make it as a cover band because it's hard for people to make it as cover band as a cover band they had their struggles with money they had some health issues they talked about some of their mental health struggles they have had which I would like to go into that but I would I'm just gonna keep it at mental health to keep it clean and not go down that road and not spoil the movie because I feel like people should still watch it even if they're not a fan of a certain actor or actress they should still watch it. So it was really just talking about the importance of looking at an artist artist artist's full repertoire and not just one song which people fall into this all the time and that they would do anything to get a performance they performed in the weirdest of places they even performed while after getting a severe head injury or not totally being themselves which I'm glad they highlighted that that if you're in the industry you'll do anything to get a gig and keep the gig which I'm glad that was highlighted and it is based off a true story as I as I was talking about they were not originally a couple when they first met they they were doing two different impersonators when watching the film at the beginning and they just ran into each other when they were doing the same gig started talking and then they both understood and fell in love and then thought doing a neo diamond cover band was a smart idea what are my thoughts about films about music acts oh that is a great question and it is op it is opening a big can of worms when I say a big old can of worms it is opening a big can because you're talking cover bands you're talking real bands and Bohemian Rhapsody really was the one that started this trend of doing films like this because it was so successful that more people want to do more films like this going forward within the X amount of years since Bohemian came out and won all these awards and several other films about musical artists and acts have won awards oh there's been so many I there's a few I have not seen yet I have seen quite a few of them I know I'm not gonna watch the one that Timothy Chalamet did even though it won several awards I would like to go see the Bruce Springsteen one possibly it looked interesting but Songsung Blue is completely different than all of those those were most of them that have come out before then were on about a list stars where this was about an everyday couple who came up with a cover band just trying to accomplish a hobby and be happy while working everyday jobs and dealing with real life problems of not having a ton of money having their struggles of working a nine to five nine to five and then doing something they love on the side and also raising a family on top of that they talked about real life struggles and wanting to make it in the music industry to a degree as a cover band and this is the first film to show that and I'm grateful there is a film like this out there and I hope it is opening a door that more people do stuff like this. I would like to see more because I'm pretty sure there are other unknown cover bands or sing cover singers we don't know about that are behind the scenes that deserve a biopic just like lightning and thunder god because I'm pretty sure all these cover acts all have a story to tell that needs to be told to grab people's interest of how do I say this of giving them a chance and enjoying their music because everybody works hard if they're in the music industry and that it's not easy and it's never been easy and people need to respect that yeah people just need to have respect oh it's so do I hope there's more of these oh yes I hope there's more I hope it gra I hope it grabs another director's interest and they find more cover bands or cover acts to I would like to see more films on this in the upcoming years because I know there is cover acts and cover bands that we don't know about or we have listened to and we don't realize it I know we don't realize it and when it comes to who sh should be the next artist or cover artist to get a biopic oh that is so hard because there's so many to pick from and there's already ones in the talks Michael Jackson's getting one which has been the most highly talked about one another one that's kind of sort of been highly talked about is each beetle is getting their own supposedly there's been talk about that for about a year year and a half I would like to see some more modern artists get some what I would actually like to see Beyonce's mom get one since her memoir has been such a hit because people wonder where Beyonce gets her talent she gets it from her mama because her mama knew how to sing and that could be interesting. There's a lot of young artists that I would like to see especially some of them that died young I'd like to see it's that is a very hard question of what would I like to see because Songsung Blue opened a door of there's a lot of cover bands that need to get more respect as is what I want to get at the end of the day. So this was a really good film I highly recommend it. I think it will be up for awards this award season it's already been in talk so possibly being up for awards season up against the Bruce Springsteen film which came out a month before them which I haven't gotten around to seeing it looks really good. I like who they picked to play him and I'm hoping to get around to watching that hopefully but there's just so many films to watch in so little time so little time I hope you have enjoyed today's episode I tried to sum up Songsung Blue to the best of my ability without ruining it hope I have gotten your attention of maybe going to watching this film even if you are not a certain fan of a certain actor so I will see you next time bye
