August Book Report

Here is another book report. August was not my month to get reading done but at least I got a little reading done though

Hello, and welcome back to another episode of the Let's Talk podcast. My name is Hannah Kevington, and you know what this episode is all about. It's book report time, and I'm so excited to be actually putting an episode out in the month of August. August has been a very busy month so far. I just barely finished my first book of the month, which is very exciting. Very exciting. Can't wait to get around to talking about that book. And the other two books I'm gonna try to get read for this month are novellas. So hopefully I can meet the three-book goal this month with reading two novellas, which are very, very short. When I looked on Goodreads earlier this week, which is part of the Powerless series, I put off reading the novellas after reading the three main books, which is the goal I was setting. And hopefully I finished this series in a two-month span because that was the goal I actually set when I first started the series back in July. Yeah, July. So I'm gonna be excited to talk about that, but I want to ask y'all a question before we get started into the book report talkie talk. And I saw this pop up on my social media feed just recently because we're I'm hearing a lot about maxing on stuff, and do you think this could apply to reading? Do you think we could read max maxing? I don't get this term. Please explain it to me because people are maxing out on certain things. Could this apply to reading and bring up like how many people are reading books now? Because apparently that's a big thing right now. Is people are like, should we be upping our reading and our literature amount and spending less time on social media? I don't know. That's a curious question I have because I was super confused when I saw it. I feel like I've upped my reading since last year because I have already read two more books than I read last year. Because I only read 19, and I've actually read three more books than I did last year. I don't know why I said two, it's three. Good lord, Hana, get your stuff together. But like I know I've read a little bit more, and that might be due to the books I have chosen to read. I've chosen reading over watching stuff. I don't know, but could reading maxing be a thing? I'm curious. I haven't done much research on it. I think I find this very curious, so we'll have to wait and see if this is gonna be a real thing or people are just talking to talk. But I am excited to get into the last book of the Powerless Main Trilogy before talking about the novellas, which I hopefully we'll get through before the end of this month. Don't quote me on it. If I get one novella done, that'll be good. If I get both novellas done, that'd be even better. But I officially finished the main trilogy, which is so exciting! I'm so so excited. I thought it would take me forever to finish this series, even though if I had not been too busy, I would have probably finished Fearless a lot earlier in the month, but that's okay. So, yes, I officially finished Fearless, which is the last book of the trilogy. I thought it was really good. It wasn't as doling as the first book. I feel like the second and third books were not as doleing. I really thought it should have needed a fourth book, but we'll have to wait and see. It was a good trilogy. I'm curious now, after finishing it, of do we need a spin-off series for Payden and Kai's daughter? Or even a prequel of some of the characters of adults that get mentioned throughout the book and need to be brought in before these main characters were a big highlight. Because I know it's getting popular to do prequels now. Hunger Games has done it. I don't know. I would like to see some prequels if the author is willing to do some prequels. So, hey, I'm open to the idea of some prequels for the Powerless series because I would like to know a little bit more about Iris and Edric's love relationship and why Iris fell in love with Callum to the story about Peyton's adoptive father and how the resistance came to be. I'm just there's stuff I want to know, and I want to know why Iris came from a different part of the world and how she got pulled into Ilya. I just have a lot of questions after learning about Queen Iris. I want to prequel about Iris' life. If you feel me, you feel me. If you've read the series, you know. You just know. But let's dive into some of the questions I wrote down while reading the book. I want to address. And you probably thought the same things. I don't know. Let's go diving in. Where does the book pick up from? Well, book two left on a very big cliffhanger, and I talked about this cliffhanger at the end of the July episode. If you haven't listened to the July episode, and hopefully I will be getting that July episode out before you see this one. But it does leave off on a very big cliffhanger. I've been I feel like reading this book for uh over a month, but it wasn't. But what I do remember is Kit proposes to Payton and Kai does not take it well. The royal court does not take it well. The only person that is accepting of it is Callum. Now that I'm looking back after reading the full book, I understand the only port person that supported the engagement between Kit and Payden was Callum. I don't know why Callum supported it, but okay. And it has to do with some of the powers Callum possesses, is the best way I can put it. Um yes, it ended on Kit proposing to Payton, Payton accepting it, Kai and the royal court kind of a little confused. There was just a lot of stuff that happened in the book after the engagement. There was a lot of confusion between the core, royal core and payton of like, why am I not being killed for what I did? And now I'm engaged to the new king of Ilya, and I'm like, okay, very confusing, super duper confusing. And so Peydon's like asking a million questions of do I deserve this engagement? When yeah, she does, because you will later find out how close to the end of the book is she's actually technically blood related to kid, which was wild. A lot of crazy things happen between when the engagement happens to the end of the story, and a lot of people get killed, sadly, in this story, which was not what I was expecting. And how does Payton almost get killed? Great question. This has happened throughout the whole story of how does Payton almost get killed, but it happened a lot more in this book than the Fuchsback because of she decided to do another round of trials, yeah, and they thought that that would actually kill her, which did not happen at all, which is very super surprising. I really thought this will kill Payden, it never did, and I will get to that in a minute. But Payton re-went to through the three trials to gain the respect of the royal court and the royal elite society, and she does gain it because she made it through all three trials, and I think the most interesting way Payton almost got killed was on her way to Israel. If you read the books, you know what Israum is, and you'll learn what Israum is. That's all I'm gonna say so I don't ruin the story for y'all. You will learn more about it if you read this series, and I highly recommend if you're a big fantasy reader, to read this series. Really easy read, other than fourth wing. Because she almost got thrown off the ship on the way to Israel, and with the luck of Kai being on the ship because he is an enforcer, he saves her. That was also how she almost got killed by bandits. That was the other one that happened in the book. What do I think of Queen Xyla? She's a character man. Oh my gosh. I actually she was one of those characters. I was like, I wish I gotten to see more of her in the third book, but we didn't get enough of her. Like, we could have a bigger history story about Queen Xyla, but we did not get that story, and that's a-okay. And I wouldn't mind another short novella of Queen Xyla's story as well, after learning a little bit about Queen Xyla, because her conversation with Peyton was a really great conversation because Queen Xyla feels that Peyton is following in her footsteps, which was a really interesting conversation to have. So I would like to have a short novella of Queen Zyla's story as well. There's just a lot of stuff. I'm like, this could be a good novella. This could be a good novella. And what we see these in the near future in the next five to ten years. Just thoughts that run through my head as I read a book. And I know y'all probably had the same thoughts as me of could this pop could this be a possibility? Could that be a possibility? Just read the story and you understand what I'm feeling. And how was Callum related to Payton? That was another big part of the book because we don't find this out until like her wedding day took hit. And this was quite interesting because Peyton saw Callum as another fatherly figure to her after her father died. And a lot of puzzle pieces also get put together from the first book to this book, which a lot of questions got answered. And I'm glad these questions got answered. While I'm like, where's these other novellas on top of that? She finds out that Callum is her biological father, which is very interesting. I'm not gonna spill all the details on that. You have to read the book to find all these details out for yourself. But Callum is one of them that dies in this story as well, and another person that does die as well. I'm not gonna spoil this because we all know that Kit goes crazy in this book. I'm not gonna tell you how he goes crazy. You need to read the book as well. Because what is the relationship between Kit and Peyton? Well, they both find out they're half siblings, they share the same mother but different fathers, which Kit Kit was surprised to hear that right before his death. But did I feel that Kit turned evil close to the end of the story? Yes, right as it was getting into the juicy part of the book where I didn't want to put it down, but I had other things going on in my day, which led to I need to put this story down, go to bed, and get other stuff done. Is there was parts of Kit I felt like, is he turning evil since his biological father died? And we later find out he does something which kind of messes with his bond. I'm not gonna tell you why you just need to read the book to understand because Peyton and Kai worry about him at times throughout this story of like, are you are you okay, kid? Are you okay? And he said, Oh, I'm fine, don't worry about me. Well, we find out through some of his writings after his death that he did something. But I can't tell you until you read the story to find out what he did, because I don't want to ruin the book for you. I want you to read this book because it's so good, it's been a popular series on book talk and book two, so you need to read it if you're a big fantasy person. But yeah, yeah, Kit kind of had some instances of turning evil when you hit a certain point of the book. But overall, this book was just as good as the second. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish I had gotten it done faster, but that's okay. I'm glad I got to read it, enjoy it. Kinda sad, kind of happy of how the book ended. Not gonna give details on that. And I will see you next time when I finish one of the novellas. I'm not gonna tell you which one I have started. You'll just have to wait and see which novella I started. Well, I am back to finish off all of the August reading that I did. I feel that August was not the best month for me to read with all of the stuff going on in my life. I was only able to read one of the novellas that I was hoping to read. I really did try to get both done. It just did not happen. I got the one novella I did get done was the one about Adina, which is Powerful, which is the one that's about that is between Powerless and Reckless. The in-between book of that, and it is Adina's story, and how Adina finds this one guy and falls in love with him, and all the stuff that happens there. Was it a good story? I thought so. I never thought I would love getting a whole book perspective in Adina's eyes, because we really didn't get much information on Adina in the powerless book, and I was wishing, as I was being introduced to this character, I was like, I wish we could know a little bit more about Adina because I thought she was a very lovely character, she's one of those lovable characters that you could get along with in real life, and so I was glad to get that book done in August. It was the only other book I read in August, and so it was a really good book. You follow this book follows Adina and a boy named Makoto, and people do call him Mac. And the cool thing about their relationship is Adina is kind of breaking how Makoto is acting now like in in the present, and how it and how Adina shapes him into a better person, which is kind of like it was it felt like a beauty and beast story to me with how Adina shaped him into a better person. Because I love both their perspectives. But it was so good, good of how he takes her in and they work on this plan, and he becomes protective of her, and then they realize they're falling in love with each other, and then Adina is asked to help her friend, um, the silver savior, which is oh Peyton. Yes, Peyton. It's not Peyton, it's Peyton. Hayden make her dresses for the balls, and so she gets to go to the castle and leaves him, even though she still sneaks out to spend time with him before she ultimately dies. Because I never know knew like when they got to the third challenge of how did Adina end up where she was because you get to the third challenge, and then there's Adina in the middle of the arena, and that's the person they have to kill. And Adina is actually the most innocent of them all. It's almost as if she got punished for being the closest thing of family to Peyton, which is really, really sad. She shouldn't have been punished for that reason, but she was. In the whole story, if you're wanting to know, was Ellie, which was Payton's maid. Which I feel like Ellie makes very big appearances in the books. She's just as well known as Adina is. Because there's a lot of good conversations that happen between Adina and Ellie, and those were some good parts of the book as well. I really like their conversations. I think if Adina had lived, I feel that Ellie and her would have gotten along even if Aiden had married a prince. So that's what my thoughts are. It's just sad of how Adina dies. And the hardest part of the book for me to get to was the part of how she gets tortured. Especially of what happens to her fingers, because it was very much brought up in powerless. And that was the part I was dreading to get to in the book. And it was a super, super sad part. So that is all I read for August because August was a very, very hard month to read in when with the changing of a schedule and just a lot of life changes.
