MSC Seashore Basics And New York Theme

A little vibe show from Port Canaveral, aka the People's Port. What's up, Vacation Nation? Again, this is your boy the cruise coach, and we are about to have a vibe show. Port Canaveral, like we said, aka the People's Port, MSc Seashore, the first seaside Evo class ship ever. So, what you see here is the MSC Seashore on Ocean K. And again, we were gonna come, we were gonna come into this episode saying, here's the hint. Right, Sally sold seashells by the ding ding ding seashore. There you go. So, again, a little play on words, MSC Seashore 2021. So two years newer than the MSC Grandioso, which we did a vibe show on 170,000 in gross tonnage, 5,877 total passengers, 4,540 at double capacity, and approximately 2,800 staterooms. Here's the best part of the MSc seashore, Captain Jesse. What's up? Three, four, or seven nights, uh huh, and certain times of the year you might also find a 10, 11, or 14 night. But you're primarily going to see the three, four, or sevens. So you're gonna have a Sunday to Thursday, a Thursday to Sunday, and then obviously your full sevens. Um, but again, this does Western Caribbean, it does the Nassau in Ocean K. Try it. My honest opinion is if you can find a four night that stays overnight at Ocean K, it's phenomenal. Lighthouse show. Uh, again, New York themed. And so when you think seashore, the best seashore there is, obviously, you think of New England, and everywhere you go on the ship, it's got that New York feel. Absolutely stunning.

Yep. So even the main dining room, right? You're gonna have your Fifth Ave, your Tribeca, your Central Park, and your Manhattan. Obviously, you have access to the buffet and also uh room service at all times as well. Ideal. And what you're gonna see, and we're gonna get into it momentarily, the specialty dining. And that's probably the first opportunity we would say. Um, and before we get into that, we are actually

Aft Infinity Pools And Deck Eight

first stumped the captain. Here we go. What stumped the captain already? Is this picture done from land or is it done from somewhere else? Possibly an obstacle or that's definitely not from land. There you go. I was not in a hot air balloon. No, I was Long Island. I was in a lighthouse. That's right. And uh Ocean K has one of the most luxurious lighthouses. And probably one of the best views you can get of Ocean K is from the aft of the ship. What's awesome about this ship is it goes thin, fat to thin. This is the back half of the ship, so this is the aft. And what do you notice on the bottom part of the aft?

You have two infinity pools, and then right by my picture, you're gonna see the brand new red cactus barbecue joint. So there it is, right there, uh barbecue, top notch. And and I'm not saying just ribs, the brisket was MSC mazing. It was phenomenal. You had cornbread, you had desserts. So, based on that, again, now here's what I will say: the hours of operation was only from like a 12 to 3. So the first day it was not open, the second and the third, it was open. We did a three night, we did a Thursday to Sunday, and it was MSc amazing. You're gonna hear that so many times throughout this episode.

All right, moving on. Oh, this is uh the the aft uh so there you go.

That's so if if we were to turn around and you're taking a picture almost where the the rib spot's gonna be, that's where you have, and I believe it's like 21, they say 21 seats of occupancy on both sides, but it's a true infinity pool. So, like you'd see on the icon classes from Royal Caribbean, it's overlooking the aft. That's the beautiful and stunning uh Port Canaveral, aka the People's Port, right there. And from the top, which is you will see actually, we don't have a video of it, but the bridge of size looks directly down from deck 16 to deck eight, and again, this is on hands down our favorite deck. You're gonna see so many things we're gonna talk about. So, hands down, we would say deck eight is our favorite deck on this seashore ship.

So we're inside. So, you know, we had a unique opportunity. You obviously you have your standard rooms, you have your interior, you have your ocean view, you have your balconies, you have your suites, and you have your yacht club. But this is a unique um ocean view balcony. So this is a category BA. Okay. Okay, and category BA is basically your um uh it's gonna be your array suite. So in your array suite right there, you have access to the uh spas as well. And then you're overlooking, and the cool part is the the actual um balcony here is about the size of an interior room. So you're still gonna see uh a few of the decks as well. So we're on deck nine, so we're overlooking deck eight, like we just talked about, and then you also have the uh if you look straight down from where we are right there, is you'll see the sports bar. And hands down, you're gonna see a still shot. It was our favorite sports bar of any ship that we've ever been on, possibly one of our favorite sports bars we've ever walked into. Oh wow, that says a lot. Yeah, definitely. And there's there's some of the art, right? You're you're talking uh this was a visually stimulating ship from top to bottom, so it's not like your normal, you know, no disrespect, but Carnival has nothing on this. Uh MSC has promised by 2020 35 35 ships. Most of those are gonna be in this world class, but it's hands down one of our new favorite uh spots. I mean, where else are you gonna get? And I'm gonna tell you right now, we paid, we paid for ours. Um you're talking about five and change when it comes down to the room. Obviously, you're gonna pay extra when it comes. We did specialty dining, so you're gonna see all the specialty dining, and even that's a deal, right? We don't really like to talk deals because that's a it's a made-up word in the industry. We talk great rates and we talk about opportunities. And uh again, we were able to get specialtin for 122 bucks for three specialty dining meals. We went ahead and did uh the butcher's cut in the middle, and then we pretty much started and finished with the hibachi. And if you know me, I'm a Japanese uh hibachi tempanyaki lover. Likewise, right?

And the best part was it was front loaded with sushi. So you're gonna see some stuff like that as well. Alright, well, let's jump back in. Uh let's see. Another vibe I love the vibe show idea, right? So yeah, it's so different. And so, okay. So there we go.

Butcher’s Cut Steakhouse Food Breakdown

That is hands down, probably one of the best steakhouses we've ever been in. It's called the Butcher's Cut. Now, here's the one thing we would have preferred to do Butcher's Cut to start and end with the hibachi in the middle, but with the package, you can only do the butcher's cut by itself. Um, you know, or you can a la carte this, so you can go ahead. This, I believe, just a standard ticket is about 60 bucks per sailor. So you figure we paid half, so 122, you divide that in three, so we only paid 40 about 40 bucks to go here. Wow. And it was an amazing meal. You're gonna be about to see it. All right, we're gonna we're gonna jump into it. So I'm a group. So there's there's tons of seating there, right? So if you want to look over the edge of the ship, you're able to. Obviously, you know, they're gonna try to upsell you with some wine and things of that nature. And again, if you like wine with your steak, who doesn't? I it wine's not my cup of tea, no pun intended. Um, but you know, I was on the ship, I was able to to do a I took my mom on kind of a post-Mother's Day trip with this, and she absolutely loved the filet, but she even loved even more than the fillet. It had uh shrimp cocktail, and it was five ginormous shrimp to start, which I don't have a picture of, but you're gonna see so many things right here. So there we go. So this was the appetizer. What do you think that is right there, Jesse? Well, those look like uh little sliders, yeah. Wagyu sliders. Oh. So again, you're talking, you know, you're top of top of the line when it comes to beef. Uh that you go somewhere. Wagyu sliders alone is gonna cost you probably $20 to start. Oh, yeah, easy. You know, and then we're gonna go ahead and get into there it is. Whoa. Nine ounce fillet. Nine ounce. Nine ounce fillet, cooked to perfection. Um no other way to put it. We we did the seaside back in 2023, and you can do the chef's table and do it this way as well. But back then we had a unique opportunity for specialty dining. Back then it was a hundred bucks, and you got it while you were on the ship, so it wasn't like this where you prepay it, but you can do one of these for dinner. So we did the butcher's cut for dinner, and then for lunch the next day, we did uh the sushi, but they allowed a filet to go in with lunch as well. So for a hundred bucks per person, you got a filet for dinner, and then sushi the next day for lunch with another fillet.

And then you're gonna end it with the lovely lava cake, and that's probably the only thing I'm gonna call lovely in my world is lava cake. Uh, and again, it was it was perfect, just enough. Uh, so so rich. Yeah. Yeah, those are always a so

Quick Eats And Teppanyaki Seven Courses

Oh and there's that another that's the that's the other uh complimentary joint chicken uh complementary eatery on board. Again, they listened to their sailors, they said, hey, we want to go ahead and have some options available. Again, only open 12 to 3. So time I would say, hours of operation would be an opportunity. But you have three chicken sandwich, three chicken different, three different chicken sandwich types. Uh-huh. The one I had on had a little bit of uh like sweet mustard, Swiss cheese. I I want to even say ham. Oh, okay. So cordon blue, a little cordon bleu style. And then I also had the chicken tenders, and they were phenomenal. And tenders, huh? Yeah. I bet there's a line for that place, though. You know, um there wasn't, you just have to be strategic, but I will say it's a grab and go type eatery, so you're able to go there, and then right around the corner is gonna be Pirate's Cove, which we don't have any videos of, but if you are a kid, uh-huh, that's where I would hang out for literally the three straight days. Yeah, he might not be allowed in there. No way. Yeah, but so that's gonna be the Tempanyaki, that's gonna be the hibachi. Uh again, no other way to put it. So you're about to see. You thought the spread was phenomenal, but it's seven courses.

I see too many forks and knives. Where's the where's the uh I'm a purist? I want I want to I know you are. I know you are I want I want my chopsticks, and I want them to be nice, I want them to be like ceramic. I hear you.

So obviously you have your your normal salad with ginger dressing. Yeah, mine, it's really just there for visual. I didn't I didn't I was not a salad eater on this cruise. Uh and again, I mean, you're the sushi specialist, so go ahead and lay that out.

No, it looks like a uh tuna, it looks like um a shrimp over the rice, a little Nagori, looks like a little bit of uh tuna sashimi. It looks like uh yeah, a great little palate cleanser.

And then I chose, so that was actually my mom's, that's what she had, and then I chose to not do the miso soup. Right, and then they gave me all tuna, so that times two.

So there's the first part of your main entree. I'll let you, since you were the uh the foodie here.

Well, I I mean that's a mixed um fish course. So it looks like you have a clam on the open uh scallop shell. You got the miso that's a white fish, so that was a cod. Okay, a miso cod, and then it looks like uh that another cell fish, lobster tail lobster tail.

Okay, so again, not a great angle of it, and then you had your vegetables, and what's nice is they kind of gave you vegetables with both. Oh, baby. And then you're gonna go ahead and see right here, so this is like the video. So this is exactly like the video. So you have the hibachi, you have the tempanyaki on one side, and then if you choose to not do that, so we were a little confused because when we got on, we thought we couldn't do the hibachi for two of the three nights. Oh so we did this for the third night, and then I said I went back and I just said, Hey, well, mom's not really a sushi person. Uh, can we do hibachi? And they were like, sure. So again, made made the accommodation.

Oh, and then that's the second half right there. So that's the second half of the meal. Again, you get more than the lobster shrimps, and that's called a shogun. So that was $55. I'm sorry, that was $75 normally. Wow. So because we got the package, it was only a $20 upgrade. Oh, so yes, I ate Wagyu beef and lobster two out of the three meals.

You know, definitely on a diet, summer diet. Spoiled. Oh man, look at that.

And then that's Ola, that's the uh taco spot again. You can do that as well. We highly recommend it. Maybe as soon as you first get on the cruise, is go ahead and and uh and be there. And what was really cool about this when we were walking in, so you walk out of the sports bar, that's where this is, and of course, all the specialty dining. We told you our favorite deck. That's right, deck eight. Deck eight, deck eight, seashore for the win. That's it. So that's probably one of the coolest spots, super chill. Uh, so again, a few months ago, we went ahead on peer pressure portcast. We showed you a lot of South Beach, we showed you uh, you know, different parts of Ocean K, but we didn't show you a hammock.

No, and again, there's not a hammock that I saw.

And the way I'm gonna tell you is obviously the new catchphrase we be smiling on the island because the hammock looks like a mouth that's smiling. It it is a smile.

Ocean Cay Timing And Upsell Traps

we're gonna jump around here. So again, uh something that that we learned, right? Uh-huh. So there's two ways of of doing this. The first is get off the ship and and either first thing or then wait until after noon. Okay, here's why. If you get off first, obviously you're gonna get your your your seating is gonna be choice accommodations. Exactly. Great way to put it. They do they purposely give you value on the ship. So when you get to Ocean K, you have to pay for a few things. They were really slick this time, something they did different than when we were on cruising. Uh, on our door, they gave us a slip this time, and it said um it had umbrella and two seats for $39.99. Well, I had clients on on the ship, and they were like, Oh, you gifted us an umbrella, and you know, and I was like, No, if you notice, if you notice, yes, you did get a gift, but it wasn't it wasn't that. Um again, we do something special for all of our sailors. It was their anniversary, so they got something cool to the room. Uh it was perfect. It was perfect way to end a day at Coco Key. If you notice I didn't say K. Yeah, yeah, right. Um, but it was it was it was phenomenal. But again, when it comes down to the island, just they're gonna try to upsell you on certain things. Right, they purposefully don't have that many available when it comes to it. But these, one thing they tell you about Lighthouse uh Beach and North Beach, all the if you see those there, those are complimentary. So first come, first serve. First come, first serve, exactly. So there's one of the buffets on on uh the island, uh, and again, just like they have on the ship, they do a really good job. So people will say, people will say, hey, when it comes to when it comes to the MSc experience, I always say the opportunity is the food. But I would say dinner in the main dining room is where the opportunity is. Everywhere else, the island, uh, and again, this doesn't open, I think, till till 12 o'clock. You also have the beach shack, right? Um you also have the so the beach shack is 11:30, these are uh 12, but they do a really good job. Their buffets are phenomenal, and what are they known for in their buffets? We had it the pizza. Oh yeah, right? Really good pizza. So really, really good pizza. Italian, it's a European-based company, and they knock it out of the park. So we just talked about the buffets. Then you also have these uh these beach shacks right here. Again, what did I have this time? I made sure that I had the uh I had the the pasta, right? So I I and then of course I wanted something a little different, and I said, hey, you know what? If I'm going to New York, I feel like I'm going to a ball game, I'm gonna have me an old school corndog. So I had a corndog, I had a uh a little bit of uh pasta. Now, one thing is they do try to upcharge you, and they that's the first thing they ask. Hey, would you like a lobster roll for $12.99? So again, not too bad. Um, you know, areas of opportunity, I think they give you so much value on the on the front end. It's okay if they I don't want to say nickel and dime you, right? Because you get on for a nickel and a dime, right? We that was our joke last time. They do a really good job of some upper end opportunities.

Lighthouse Beach Views And Shark Nets

laying out Ocean K. Now, something unique that we heard from so here's one area of opportunity. I I say one, but right one area of opportunity when it comes to to MSc. Because of the language barrier, you go to a lot, you ask a lot of questions, hey, where's such and such? Right. How about the gentleman who gave us the tour up to Lighthouse had no idea where the con the what the island was gonna be called that the construction is being done on? Oh, okay. So he wasn't sure he said he knew what it was supposed to be about, right? But of course, who had to step in? The travel educator and advisor, and I said that's actually gonna be called, and you don't see it here, but you're you're gonna see a nice little snippet at the end. We're gonna end on it, and so what do you think this island was called before it was called Coco Key or Coco K?

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Ocean K. Ocean K. What was it called before it was Ocean K or Ocean Key? Little. How about Sandy Key or Sandy K?

And now it's called Ocean Key or K. Right. And again, I think you did a phenomenal job of a video. So if again, go back to episode uh, I believe four, go back to episode four, and you're gonna go ahead and see how this island was erected. Started in 2015, finished in 2019. Now the limit is through the roof. By 2027, you're going to have uh some types of pools, and you're going to have all these different beaches throughout. Plus, you're going to have Sandy K, which you're going to see at the end, and we'll talk about that then.

So there you can see this is from the island. This is from Lighthouse Beach. Absolutely stunning, right? So you have the ship, lighthouse beach, first come, first serve with everything. Uh, and then here's something we we learned about those nets. Do you know why those nets are there? Keep uh so they said all the big sharks will be kept out by those nets. However, the babies, the two to three feet, they're not gonna hurt you. So you might be snorkeling on the island. Of course, that the you know the little babies can swim through, but sure, no one has ever been harmed, as from what we hear from the two to three footers. Right. Me, a shark, I'm going the other way. And um, that's stunning view from from our balcony, actually. Wow. So we we've got some phenomenal video coming in, some phenomenal photos. So that really is lighthouse point. Uh, you're gonna you know see a uh you're gonna see a video of straight down from the lighthouse and what you see, and again, so many things. Ocean K, Ocean Key talked about the number one tropical island for all of cruising.

Oh wow, that's a lot to to to to say because I mean there's there's some good competition out there, you know.

But I think what it is is what they're saying is it's not truly man-made, right? Now, obviously, the rock position and things of that nature that is man-made, but as you can see right there, this is or this is a walking point, so we were able to walk down, kind of go above Lighthouse Beach, able to see the ship itself right there, deck a you know, uh, I believe right here we're even with like deck four or five, and then you're able to see all of Lighthouse Beach. And what's what's cool is there's a lot of construction going on on the island. Why? Obviously, they're trying to make it better for all the sailors, and who's staying there is those who work on the island and the construction workers as well. So when I say work, I mean the servers, right? The staff, the staff, and then the construction because so much construction is happening. Wow, look at that. And there you go, all the way to the left, you're you're able to see that the now that they call that's like Rocky Beach, right? So that's that's kind of um again, first come, first serve. So when you saw those, uh when you saw those little seating areas, that's where that's gonna be, all the way to the left. And when you and I went back in uh January, we didn't see any of this. We stayed to the right, right? We stayed all the way to South Beach and and uh and all of that, right? And I said, hey, this time I'm gonna explore everything we didn't, right? Yeah, did they do a 5K um that morning too? Matter of fact, there were runners the whole time running throughout the um paths. I wish I could bring my skateboard on those paths, that'd be a fun skateboard. Well, which path would you be on? Would it be the driving or the walking? No, the the driving, not the pedestrians. There you go. So yeah, at least, and that's probably the biggest opportunity is pay attention to the signs, right? But even on a skateboard, you have to be careful because there's so many carts coming in and out. I know.

It's a busy island. It is, you know, I mean uh when 8,000 people descend on it for an afternoon, it's so much infrastructure. All the food has to come off the ship, the people come off the ship, the staff come off the ship, yeah, and we turn that thing into a bustling little city.

That's it. And world class is gonna have about, like you said, a little over 7,000. So times plus the staff, you said it right there. Yeah, and that's that that's that rocky beach. So again, it's not gonna be the beach type, and again, are we spoiled here in Florida with beaches? Of course, right? You go to certain beaches, and that's not the norm, but I think in a in a unique way, that's your calmness of a beach, right? Right, and you can see all the what's on the ground right there, that's some areas that you can see. It was a rock quarry, right? They they they did some digging, pun intended. Um, and one thing else that we learned is they took they wanted to make sure all the ecosystems were still functional. So the first thing they did is removed a lot of the reefs and put them out around the island so that it can still do what it naturally needs to do. That's smart. And that is a beautiful golden hour pulling up. Uh again, that's from our balcony. It's absolutely stunning. And uh that's uh that's that's on your uh arrival as you can. That is on the arrival. Yep, so that's approximately 6.30 in the morning. Uh we had breakfast a little earlier, so we did breakfast about 7:30. So we tried to get this, go do breakfast, and then I had to be at the lighthouse at 9:50. So uh again, wanted to make sure we were there in time, and it was absolutely stunning. MSC mazing. So there you go. That's a simple lagoon in the middle. That's what makes it so nice, right? So you have the lagoon in the middle, you can swim across it if you if you so choose. And and we've had clients say, This is our favorite island. Now, some people will agree, some people will disagree. Are you more tropical? Do you like pools? Right, you know, again, and and it's no different than as a travel educator and advisor, what's the value of worth worth? Right when you think of island,

Favorite Sports Bar And Island Expansion

this is what most people think think about. Right. 100%. So again, MSC Tropical. So going back to like we talked about it earlier, that's hands. If you were to say, What's my top three things? This would be in my top three. That's gonna be a sports bar. What's nice is you can do sports bedding as well. Oh, wow, and what do you think those seats are? And what do you think those seats are to the right? Those are actual slot machines. Oh, so you can see why you like this bar, right? So you're able to, and then seating all the way in the left, you're overlooking the balconies. Yeah, you have you slot machines if you so choose, full wraparound bar, and then what do you see to the top right there? You have a full ticker that talks about all the sports, and this was hands down our favorite sports bar we have ever been in at sea.

No, this this is it flips the script. Yeah, you can't have gambling and and any all that in any other sports bar.

And I think you got double points on the slot machines when you did that there. Yeah. So again, that is actually from the ship as well. So that's hands down our favorite view, and that actually might be from right outside the sports bar.

Yeah, see they got the construction over here on the right side. Exactly. Wow. Look at that. I mean, they are building so much.

They are, and and again, it's it's because they're trying again, they're building everywhere. As you can see, the crane at the end, right? You have the crane behind the ship trying to do what it has to do. So many things on that island, and it's warp speed. You know, not only are they building ships faster than everybody else, I think they're doing the upgrades on the islands faster than everybody else.

Oh, yeah, they've they put so much uh time and labor into this. You can see why housing makes sense. I mean, try think about trying to to have 30 uh construction workers commuting from Miami or Bemini to this island every day. Yeah, but that's like way. And and I I guarantee that it'll turn into either more staff uh housing after the construction's all done. Yeah, or maybe even some overnight. I mean, I'm speculating, but that'd be cool if they they offer, you know, if you get there, get in there at nighttime and and select to do a uh cabana overnight instead of your room. Who knows?

You know, it's it's limitless, pun intended. That's right. And that's looking out from that's the other side looking out from our uh cabin as well. Again, the balcony that doesn't give it any justice, but it was literally the size of an interior room. Wow, it had two loungers, two normal seats, uh, you know, a footstool, and then a table as well. So we were in ah pun intended. I bet.

gonna end with when it comes to the photos. Yeah, so we talked about it earlier. What was Ocean Key or Ocean K originally named? Sandy. There it is. So this is now called Sandy K or Sandy Key. Ocean K originally, or Ocean Key was originally named that. So uh, and again, when we talk to the education side of it, the gentleman was like, We're not sure what's going on here. So, as we've already talked about here on Peer Pressure Portcast, the key is with this, this is going to be available for two types of people. What's the first, Jesse? A yacht club, of course, the yacht club, and then the explora, which is the luxury line, explora one, explora two, and guess who just got is doing sea trials? The explorer three, really, the explore explora four and five will be completed in 2027, the explora six will be 2029, so you're gonna have six luxury explorer ships from MSC, obviously MSC Mazing. You're gonna have 35 ships by 2035. You've got this going on at Ocean Key or Ocean K. They just spent I don't know how many millions of dollars, I believe, in Grand Bahama as well. So we're gonna continue to say it. Our favorite two words here at Peer Pressure Podcast talking about MSc and their growth. Stay tuned.

The whole island, about an acre worth. You see the Sandy K to the right of the ship, you see the ship, you see the five or six beaches, you see the construction all the way over to the last beach. Wow. Absolutely amazing.

And again, that's from the lighthouse. We highly, highly suggest go see our boy Sammy at the lighthouse. Tell him peer pressure portcast, the cruise coach, and Dr. Paradise sent you. Go see him. He was awesome, and we got to ask him, is it key or is it K? That's right. And we already know the answer. It is key, even though it's spelled K. And that is there, look at how low. That is a big balcony. You see what I'm saying? So that's much, much different. I wanted to show the balcony first, then you have your seating area, and then if you go up, you've got the beds, right? Um, and again, the uh stand-up shower, you have the you know, I would say that that's not very large inside the uh, you know, inside the inside the bano right there. Yeah, but overall, again, it depends on the room. You're you're gonna have it one or the other. So you're gonna either have the bed there and flip-flop. So you're always gonna have the couch on one side with the desk and then the bed on the opposite.

And again, this happens all the time. So something I'll let you know is you can see if you get there, and obviously I'm going with my mom, so the bed was supposed to be split, they had it together. All you say is, hey Stuart, you mind separating them? And he literally came in, he made sure it was perfect, he was absolutely phenomenal for us. We gave him a little bit extra, it was spotless inside of our room. Yeah, that's a great little room, and there it is, directly from the lighthouse, looking straight down. You want to talk about a pan? Normally you pan left to right or right to left. How about down to up? That is stunning. How many steps? Okay, oh, stump the captain. How many steps are up the lighthouse?

Oh wow, that's a lot more. 165 steps. What's nice is there's three different tiers. So one of the ladies we were with, she was scared of heights. But by by the time she got to the top, you know, we were kind of helping her out. And that to me, right there, that was worth it again. If you were to say, give us some recommendations and excursions, obviously snorkeling. But that right there, do the lighthouse climb, ask for Sammy, tell him peer pressure portcast and the cruise coach sent you.
