You can write a session plan in fifteen minutes. You've done it a thousand times — you don't overthink it, you don't stare at the blank page, you just do it. So why have you been sitting on your digital offer for six months?

In this episode I'm getting into the one thing nobody ever taught us — and why once you have it, everything changes.

IN THIS EPISODE:

  • Why "I don't have time" and "I'm not techy enough" aren't the real reasons your digital offer isn't done
  • The one thing that separates writing a session plan in 15 minutes from staring at your digital offer for six months
  • Why this has nothing to do with confidence or tech — and everything to do with something no one ever taught us
  • The three questions I use with every therapist I work with to find their offer — and why the answer is probably already sitting in your Google Drive
  • Why your offer doesn't need to be built from scratch — and it’s probably closer than you think
  • The sequence that takes it from idea to something you can actually sell
  • The personal story behind my own MULTIPLE years delays — and the only thing that changed

So get in there, get on that link. You're going to want to be in that room. Okay, let's get into it. Hello, hello, and welcome back to another episode of the Freedom Therapist Podcast. I'm Mia, I'm your host, and I am so excited to be here today because this episode is something that I am so passionate about. You guys know we've been talking all about making passive income, branching out beyond the one-to-one, growing a sustainable practice in your business. If you want to go back and listen to those episodes, the last couple of weeks have been absolutely epic, if I do say so myself. I've been getting so many DMs from all of you. So dive on in there. But today's episode is actually just going to be so supportive and so wonderful as well. And I know that it's going to really connect with so many of you too. So I want to start with a little question because we love to get a little bit uncomfortable on this podcast, especially when it comes to our mindset and all those wonderful limiting beliefs. I want you to think about and sit there for a moment and go, I want you to answer the question of how long does it take you to write a session plan? 15 minutes, 20 if it's complex, maybe 30. There's no judgment here. Everyone's a little bit individual around here, but how long does it take you to write a session plan? When it comes to writing session plans, we don't overthink it. We don't stare at a blank page, we just do it, we just get it done. And I would argue that even if you're a new grad, you've already got ideas. And even if it takes you a little bit longer, you always come out with a session plan. If you've been in this work for quite a while, I would guarantee that probably a lot of you might be like, I don't really need to session plan. I do it in my head, I adapt to the child, I adapt to the client. I just kind of know what I'm doing and I'm able to really think on my feet in the moment. And everyone is different, everyone has their own process. But the point is, we just get it done. We just do it because you've done it a thousand times, because you have a framework, you have a basis that you work off that you know you've learnt in your studies, that you've learned in your experience, that you have a personal preference for, and you know exactly where to start. Now, in answering that question, that it takes us, you know, 15, 20 minutes to write a session plan, how long have you been sitting on the idea of a digital product, a digital offer, maybe a workshop, a paid workshop, a live workshop, something that is gonna support your clients beyond the one-to-one. I'm not talking about the huge course or the huge membership. I'm talking about the simple digital offer. Maybe it's selling a social story, maybe it's selling an ebook, maybe it's selling a workshop. How long have you been sitting on that idea? That's exactly what I thought. And today I want to talk about the why around that because there is so much to unpack here. We often will sit on these amazing ideas. Maybe it's something like a social story that we want to sell, maybe it's an ebook, maybe it's a workshop. It's something that would take us the same amount of time to deliver. But we sit on these ideas so much longer than everything else in our business. And I hear this all the time. I get DMs about this all the time. I hear this through Discovery on boarding calls. And the most common things that I hear all the time are I don't have the time, or I just don't really have the tech skills, I'm not really tech savvy, or I don't know where to start. And I want to so gently with love, but I really want to call this out because I'm always going to be really honest with you. And the reason that I believe in being really honest with you is because I feel like there is so much potential for you in this space. We find time for the things that we have a process for. If you're listening to this podcast, you are most likely running an entire practice, or you're leading a clinical team, or you're a really busy therapist thinking about running a practice. You are across probably multiple funding bodies, client management systems, all sorts of different intervention strategies, all those things. You're not intimidated by technology, but you are intimidated by the blank page. Trust me, I get it. I've been there too. I've literally experienced this as well. And that I don't know where to start feeling that is the one that so many of us get tripped up in. And here's what I know after working with almost 100 therapists on creating businesses that we want to be in for a really long time. I know, pinch me, I literally can't believe that we are nearly at that number two. Like, ah, I can't believe it. Anyway, side note, but here's what I know. The reason that you can write a session plan in 15 minutes, but you've been staring at that Google Doc, that blank page, that piece of paper that you've been drafting that beautiful digital offer, digital product on for six months, maybe more. It's not because we have a time deficit. It's not our tech problems, it's not even a confidence problem. Although there's definitely some probably some limiting beliefs in there too, but it is at the core, it is a process problem. When you write a session plan, you have a framework, you know what goes where, you know your structure. You've trained for years to be this incredible clinician. You have this process that you've followed. And not one semester of our studies covered how to take that clinical knowledge and how to turn it into something you could sell. And so, of course, we're going to freeze. Of course, we're going to be like, oh my God, I don't know anything. Oh my God, so-and-so is going to do it better. Or, oh, I really should have started this ages ago because now someone else is already talking about that thing and like, oh my God, I'm never going to be able to do it now. Like all of these things, I know these. Like, I had these in my brain. I talked to therapists. We we talk about these limiting beliefs all the time, but it was always going to feel like this without a process, right? And so what I want to give you today is the start of that process right now. When I work with therapists on their first digital offer, we always start in the same place. We don't start at the platform, we don't start at the price, we don't even start at the marketing, but we start at the offer itself and we ask ourselves three questions. One, what do you know that your clients desperately need but struggle to access outside of a session with you? Two, what do you find yourself explaining over and over again the thing that you've said so many times that you could say it in your sleep? And three, what resource do you wish existed when you started working with your client group? The one that maybe you've been building yourself, maybe you already have built yourself because nothing felt like it truly fit. And I really want you to sit with these three questions for a moment because these three questions can really shape so much of your first digital offer. These three questions are literally the little breadcrumb sprinkle into our offer. If we follow this along, if we, you know, follow down that yellow brick road, our offer is already there. It is definitely, I'm not even gonna say probably, it is definitely living in your Google Drive, in your downloads folder, in your notes app. It exists. It just hasn't been found or it hasn't been looked at through the right lens yet. And once we know that lens, once we become familiar with that, then we get to do all the fun stuff about creating the offer, figuring out the service delivery, who it's for, what format makes sense, what to price it, how to talk about it in a way that makes people actually want to buy it, that gets you a wait list, that has people banging down your door to download this thing because they want to be in your community. That is the framework, that is the process. And when you have it, creating this digital product, it stops feeling like such a big mountain to climb. Now, I wanted to share this today, and I want to share something so vulnerable and so true today with you all. I wrote the very first draft of my very first digital offer in 2020. I did not launch it until 2023. That is three years. Three years. Are you actually joking? And it wasn't because I was like, oh, I don't have this idea or I'm not really ready. It was because I hadn't had the idea, but I had zero process for getting it out into the world. I had zero place to start. I had zero knowledge of like how to get there. There was no obvious path. It was all brand new, unknown, and so foreign. And it just became easier to just like keep writing down ideas and keep circling back and being like, oh, when this offer finally comes out of the world, it's gonna be amazing. Hello, Mia. The only thing that is gonna make your offer amazing is to test it with your community. And honestly, we're gonna talk about all of that in times to come as well. But seriously, I wasted so much time not bringing that out into the world. And now I bring out digital offers, digital products through my business all the time. Like we have fast-tracked that process. So it is like it is an absolutely well-oiled machine in this business. It is a process, it is fun to do now. It is something that I truly enjoy. And that process literally changed everything for me. It changed my mindset around digital offers, it changed my income, it changed the way I run my business, it changed the way we support our clients, it changed the way we grew our community. It has changed literally everything. And I really want to invite you to think about that because the process was the thing that changed. The process was the thing that sped things up. And the process is the only thing standing between you and getting this offer out into the world, which is exactly why I wanted to run our masterclass on the 19th of June, where we are gonna create and sell your first digital therapy resource together. This is a life workshop where we are gonna turn your clinical knowledge into an offer that generates real income outside of your one-to-one sessions because we literally did not start these businesses to work so hard that we're gonna miss out on the life that we started them for in the first place. This workshop is gonna be the most practical thing we've ever run. It is not something where we're gonna come, we're gonna talk, and we're just gonna like listen. It is so practical. You are gonna walk out of this workshop with your offer formulated and ready to sell. And if you are there live, you're also gonna walk out of there with all of the sales copy because we have these amazing AI prompts in your little sales messaging pack that you are going to get as a bonus if you are there live. I know that we are busy. I know that we have a hundred billable things that need our time, but when we want to create something new, we need to put in the time and we need to put in the effort because nothing changes if nothing changes. And I can tell you, hand on my heart, that creating digital offers, creating digital resources and supplementary offers that fill my ecosystem in my business have truly, truly changed my life. They've changed everything for me. And I want nothing more than to share that with the wider community of therapists. This workshop is gonna be so incredible. It's gonna be so special. I know that you are gonna get so much out of it. As such, we're doing the first 200 seats free. It is on the 19th of June. It's gonna be at 9:30 a.m. WA Perth time. So convert that into your time zone. But this one, you do not want to miss it. Like, I if you attend anything this year, out of anything that we do, make it this workshop. You are gonna get so much out of it that you're gonna learn so much, you're gonna get so many practical tips, and you are gonna walk out with your first digital therapy resource. I'm so proud of it. I know you're gonna love it, and you need to be in this room. This is how we're gonna create the practices that we want to be in for a really long time that truly give us financial freedom, that truly give us that flexibility we started them for in the first place, because you deserve that as well. I really hope that you enjoyed this episode. I hope it's got that little brain of yours ticking over, like mine always does when I start to talk about these things. And honestly, if you think anyone would benefit from this workshop that we're running, if you've got a therapist friend who you know needs to hear this, please share this episode. If you feel called to, please share it on your stories. You know that we are a community that grows through connection, and part of that connection is the world of social media. And honestly, it means so much every time you guys share our episodes online. Like, I can't even tell you. I just like honestly, literally, I know this is gonna sound so lame, but it makes me like get a little bit teary every time I see these messages because we put so much into this podcast and we want it to be so supportive with you because we want more of us staying in this space. We want more of us running businesses that we truly love to be in. And I've loved being here today. If you've got any questions about the workshop, about today's episode, you can find me on Instagram at Miapoco at M I A P O K O and get in there, save your seed before they go up in price, and I will see you next week. Thank you for being here.
