We're surrounded by more information than ever before, yet many people feel more confused, overwhelmed, and stuck than ever.

In this episode, Paula explores the difference between information and awareness, and why collecting more knowledge isn't always the answer. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in mental health, she shares how real transformation happens when we stop looking outside ourselves for answers and start recognising the patterns, beliefs, and conditioning shaping our decisions.

If you've ever found yourself taking another course, reading another book, or waiting until you have "enough information" before taking action, this episode may challenge your perspective.

Discover why self-trust is becoming one of the most important skills of our time and how awareness can help you navigate a world full of noise, influence, and manipulation.

Knowledge is power. Awareness is freedom. Travel is living. 🦋

Welcome to the Dragonfly Perspective. This is a space for seeing clearly through travel, business, and real life. We explore what's real, what's not, and how to trust your own intuition in a world that often pulls you away from it. These are conversations about awareness, discernment, and building freedom in a way that actually feels right. I'm Paula Fern, and I'm glad you're here. Welcome back to the Dragonfly Perspective. I'm Paula Fern, and today I want to talk about something that I see absolutely everywhere. People who are drowning in information but starving of awareness. And the scary part is most of them think that they're growing in some way. They think that they're learning, they think they're preparing, but actually a lot of times they're just hiding. Because information feels productive. We're in the information age, it's everywhere, everywhere you turn. Awareness, though, of whether that information is actually making a difference feels uncomfortable. It feels like a bit more work, but that's where the magic happens. So let's have a chat now about the addiction that nobody talks about. We live in a world where information has never been easier to access. You want to learn something, you Google it. Watch a YouTube video, listen to a podcast, or buy a course, ask AI. And within seconds, you can access more information than previous generations could ever access in years of check-in. And yet, people are more confused than ever, they're more anxious than ever, they're more disconnected from themselves than ever before. Because information isn't the same thing as wisdom and learning, and it definitely isn't the same thing as awareness. Why my mental health background changed everything? I spent over 20 years working in mental health, in psychiatric hospitals, in locked forensic units, and what that means is there is someone with a mental health condition that has committed usually quite a grievous crime. I've worked in community settings, in supported living accommodations, different levels of management within all of these settings. And one thing became obvious during this work. Awareness is actually seeing, really seeing the pattern I see everywhere. Someone says, I need to do more research, I need to think about it, I need more information before I decide. Sometimes that is absolutely true, but most of the time, it's fear wearing a clever disguise. That's the real issue. Not a lack of information, but a lack of self-trust. Now, social media is shouting, it is loud. The news is louder than ever. AI is shouting at us from all angles, experts are shouting, influencers are. Everyone wants your attention. Everyone wants you to believe they have the answer that you're looking for. And in all that noise, people are losing the ability to hear themselves. That's why my work has shifted. I want them to learn how to think and bring that awareness to the forefront of everything. I want them to learn how to recognize manipulation, how to spot conditioning, how to question narratives, and how to reconnect with their own intuition because that's where the freedom is, that's where it starts. So, why the dragonfly perspective? It's something I've talked about before. The dragonfly spends most of its life underwater. Then one day it emerges, it sheds its old form, and everything changes. That's what awareness does for us. Not because your life changes overnight, but because your perspective changes, and when you've got a change on that perspective, the choices that you've got available to you and the behaviour that leads you to those choices dramatically change. When the choices are changed, lives change. The situation might be exactly the same, but you see it completely differently, it changes everything. So I've got a question for you. What if the thing you're looking for isn't another piece of information? What if it's that awareness around what it is that you seek in? What if the answer isn't in another book? It's not in another course, another podcast, or another another expert to follow. What if the next level of your life starts when you stop looking outside yourself and you start paying attention to what's happening within you? That question changed my life, and it could change yours too. If this episode resonated with you, I'd love you to share it with someone. Someone who's feeling overwhelmed or stuck or tracking that information overload. And I know there's lots of you out there that are. If you're ready to experience awareness rather than just learn about it, check out my awareness shift meditation. There should be a link somewhere around this podcast. And if there isn't, just email me at hello at Paulafern.com. Fern is spelled F-E-A-R-N. Hello at Paulafern.com and I'll get that sent over to you. Awareness isn't about becoming someone new, it's about finally seeing clearly enough to become yourself. Who you were before all of that conditioning was piled onto you. Until next time, just remember knowledge is power, awareness is freedom, travel is living. I'll see you soon.
