Living Unbreakable — What Happens After Survival
Survival changes you.
But what comes next is rarely talked about.
In this opening episode of Season 2, Andrew explores the space beyond crisis — the part of the journey where survival is no longer enough, and life begins to ask deeper questions.
After a life-changing heart failure diagnosis, years were spent focused on recovery, rebuilding, and simply staying alive. But over time, a new realisation emerged: survival alone is not a life.
This episode explores what happens when the immediate danger passes, and you’re left facing something more confronting — how to live with intention, clarity, and alignment.
Through personal experience and honest reflection, Andrew shares the moment he recognised that resilience isn’t about enduring everything… it’s about choosing what truly deserves your energy.
This episode is for anyone who has:
- come through a difficult period and felt uncertain about what comes next
- questioned whether the life they returned to still fits
- begun to see their time, energy, and identity differently
Today’s Unbreakable Principle:
Survival is not the destination. It’s the doorway.
Season 2 is about living unbreakable — building a life shaped not by what you endured, but by what you choose moving forward.

Because survival is something difficult doesn't automatically show you how to live again. Sometimes survival is just the beginning of a completely different journey. Welcome to Becoming Unbreakable, a podcast about resilience, emotional leadership, and rebuilding when life doesn't go to plan. I'm Andrew Attak. In season one, we explored survival, illness, collapse, identity loss, and a difficult journey of rebuilding a life when everything changes. But season two is about something different. Season two is about living unbreakable. The diagnosis. The collapse. The moment everything changes. But in my experience, the hardest part isn't always a crisis. Sometimes the hardest part is what comes after. Because once the emergency passes, once a hospital discharge arrives, once the immediate danger fades, life asks a completely different question. Now what? After my heart failure diagnosis in 2018, I spent a long time focused on survival, medication, recovery, learning how to breathe properly again. Rebuilding strength slowly, understanding the limits my body now carried. And in those early years, that was enough. Survival was a goal. But over time, something changes. You realize survival alone is not a life. You begin to ask deeper questions. Who am I now? What matters now? What kind of life do I want to build with the time I've been given? And those questions are often more confronting than the crisis itself. Because survival strips away illusions. You begin to see clearly what drains you, what sustains you, and what no longer belongs in your life. For me, one of the biggest realizations came years later, in 2024, when my body and my work life both reached breaking point. I was doing the work of multiple roles, supporting teams, training staff, holding systems together, trying to keep everything moving. But the truth was, something inside me was slowly collapsing again. Not my heart this time, my energy, my identity, my sense of alignment. And when my body finally said enough, I had to face something uncomfortable. Survival had kept me alive, but it hadn't yet taught me how to live. That lesson came later. When I realized something simple but powerful, living unbreakable is not about enduring everything. It's about choosing what deserves your energy. The idea that resilience means pushing through everything, working harder, enduring more, and sacrificing for systems, roles, and expectations. But real resilience looks different. Real resilience is selective. It asks questions like, is this aligned with who I am now? Is this environment helping me grow or slowly shrinking me? Am I living from fear? Or from clarity? For many people, the hardest moment of growth comes when they realize the life they survived or is not the life they want to return to. And that's where courage begins. Because survival teaches you one thing very clearly. Time is not guaranteed, energy is not unlimited. And your life deserves to be lived intentionally. Take a moment to reflect on this question. What changed in your life after the hardest moment you faced? Did it shift your priorities? Did it change how you see work? Did it change the way you treat your body? Did it reveal something about your relationships? Often, the moments that nearly break us also reveal what truly matters. Not immediately, but eventually. Because survival has a way of clearing away the noise. And when the noise disappears, the truth becomes easier to hear. The unbreakable principle. Today's unbreakable principle is this. Survival is not the destination. It's the doorway. The doorway to a life lived with more honesty, more boundaries, more awareness of what truly matters. Becoming unbreakable doesn't mean nothing ever hurts you again. It means you learn how to build a life that honours what you've survived. If you've walked through difficult seasons in your own life, you'll know that survival changes you. But what do we do with that change is what shapes the future. In this season of the podcast, we're going to explore what it means to live unbreakable, to lead with emotional clarity, to build lives that are aligned, to develop resilience that isn't about armour, but about wisdom. If that journey resonates with you, I'd invite you to follow the podcast so you don't miss the next episode. And if you're new here, you may want to start at the beginning with season one, where this story began. Until next time, remember this survival proves your strength, but living with intention reveals your purpose.
