What happened to when we were just doing shots and getting drunk on this trip? We're gonna do a drinking episode coming up here soon. Are we? It just gets six likes.
Over the years, all of us have probably spent considerably more money than we ever wanted to on tools. And a lot of them fall into two categories. Cheap or not cheap. And today we're gonna be debating on whether it is important to spend the money on a tool or just get the cheap version and ride that sucker out for as absolutely long as possible. We all know what bucket this guy is gonna fall into, but I do think the three of us have some differing opinions on what tools you should be buying on the affordable categories versus which ones you should not. Sam. Yes. You looked down immediately in shame when I made that statement there. Are you are you ready to jump in or are you gonna?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if I am or not. Why is he holding the bread like that? Uh I don't know what what what side do you think I'm on? And I honestly don't know what side I'm on. Do you think I'm on the cheap side or the expensive side? I don't know anything.
SPEAKER_00All I know is that we're here and we're ready to rock and roll. So, Joe, lead us in. What do we got first?
Uh starting out, what justifies spending money on tools? Like when you're going through and purchasing something, what would make you spend something on something luxurious, like a nice brand, versus cheaping out and going something that's you maybe you're not using as much?
SPEAKER_01You know something that uh that does it for me and has nothing to do with the performance of the tool itself, but it's just like a marketing scheme that works on me really well. You either give me a free gift or you tell me there is a limited time deal, like those Home Depot sales around Thanksgiving. Oh, they get you so hard. They just like discount everything to prices you know will not be there for the rest of the year. You can't help yourself.
SPEAKER_00Dude, how I love it. This is so true. Sam is coming here so the three holiday seasons we've spent together, he's coming every time, and he's like, they got me at the depot yesterday. You gotta do another one this year. They had they had like a pack out on sale and it came with a free screwdriver. Like you got a bag of peanuts with the purchase of some used drywall, like they get them every time. I love that you pointed that out. I gotta say, too, like I love, I love a BOGO. Yeah, but even if it's a fake BOGO, like you get in there and they're like, buy one, get one on batteries. You're like, you're lying through your teeth right now, Home Depot, but I want them both. I'm gonna take it.
I'm so I'm with you there. Uh but all right, so a cheap tool, let's just throw cheap tools into the category. Uh we've got like anything used potentially in the hand tool kind of power tool category would probably be cheaper. Then we've also got like your cheap brands, right? We've got formerly the artist formerly known as Ryobi. Uh used to be cheap, now not that cheap, but still cheap in some content, whatever. Um, Harbor Freight products, there's they're three tiers. They got the they got the what, the, the Pittsburgh, the Bauer, the the Warrior, the Warrior, the Hercules, like they got they're doing it all over there at Harbor Freight. Then you've got your elite brands like your Festivals and Joe's favorite, the Hilties and uh Milwaukee. You're big Hilti guy. I do like I enjoy Hilti products. They make some cool products. Yeah, and so what constitutes, was that the question, a cheap tool? Like what justifies spending money on something?
I think for me, I'm gonna try to remove my like business owner brain here because for me it's always uh how do I get the thing that is gonna get the job done with the highest quality and the best value for the you know the tool itself, and then get me the outcome I'm looking for on the project that I'm probably getting paid for. If you don't have the business side of things, you gotta kind of run the same mental model, though, I think. But then what you're also balancing is like how often am I gonna use that tool? And I think that that's a big factor for the home buyer. Yeah. What do you mean, like how you're gonna use it? How often? So it's like so it's like say you're doing a tiling project on your house, right? All of a sudden you feel like um you're an old school Italian man and and and tile has become life, and you want to tile your whole house. Uh, there's certain tools that are just super specific to tiling that I feel like you want to jump in and buy for a job like that. Like, for instance, a tile saw. You're not gonna use that on anything else but tiling, right? It's a one-trick pony.
SPEAKER_04Right?
SPEAKER_00And not wrong, it's a one-trick pony. I and I'm a huge, huge, huge hater on one-trick ponies. Like, I hate one-trick pony tools. That's why mechanics tools are so hard for me, because you're like, I need all these sockets for potentially using them on one trick. Do you hate drywall guns? Yes. Don't like drywall guns at all. But I don't do drywall full time. So it's like if you're just a homeowner, you don't need a drywall gun, personally. I think so. What you're not just my my opinion. But that being said, it's like it's like a weird dichotomy. So like I think you should be factoring on when you're buying a tool is like one, obviously, what does it cost? And then two, like, how often can you use it? Is the tool dynamic enough that you could use it on a multitude of stuff? Right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I definitely think how often you use it is like a major factor. Or could use it. Or could use it, or could use it. Yeah, any cheap to Wyoming is something I don't do that often. Like, whenever I did buy like an SDS drill, I was like, just give me a Ryobi one. Like, I'm gonna bust this thing out like a couple times a year. Like, I'm not gonna invest in like a Milwaukee or a Bosch.
SPEAKER_00Um Yeah, there's that I think that's a huge factor. Is like I got the other side of the equation though, is can you find more uses for it? Like, you ever done that? You ever bought a tool or bought something and you're like, I'm gonna use start using this more often because now I have it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've also had it happen where you purchase a tool thinking that it's not gonna last. I guess is you know, this is just something I'm gonna enjoy for the moment. There's no no long-term commitment here, and then you're like, man, you really stuck with me through some hard times here. Maybe, maybe this this tool is here to stay.
SPEAKER_00I feel like you find something that like you you'll force usage of said like a like a a I think a laser level is like a good example, not a cheap one, like a like a like the $500 Milwaukee laser level. You're gonna go grab that thing for the most unnecessary work. Oh yeah, you have to justify the purchase. Yeah, yeah. So I think that's another element of buying stuff. Um, yeah, so I don't know. Those two factors do it for me. Like, what's the cost, right? I guess. Yeah, what's the cost? How often can I use it? And then, like, is it actually necessary for this job?
Something recently that's popped in my head too, that like I never went down this rabbit hole, but it's kind of there now, and I think about it more often than I should, is can I rent it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't do it for him.
SPEAKER_01Well, I guess it depends I I don't know. I think my mind always goes through the same thing where it's like, oh, if I rent this for a couple days, I've already spent like the value of like 40% of the value of the tool, and if I just bought it, if I got two uses out of it, that already justifies me having this rather than the right.
SPEAKER_00What's the purchase price of the tool that you could potentially start your your your like mental gymnastics of should I rent it?
SPEAKER_01I feel like if it's like around like three to four hundred, like you purchase it and then you're renting it and spending like 150 bucks. Like I'm thinking like a tile saw where it's like, I don't know, now now I'm almost like maybe I should buy one, do some more tile jobs. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I'm going at like a thousand bucks. If the tool's a thousand dollars, I'll consider renting it first. Like a nice, like a sliding tile saw with like all the coutrement on a stand. Those things are nice. Yeah, they're also like 11,000, 12, $2,000, right? But you can get in like a little Ryobi one for like a couple hundred dollars. Oh, absolutely. And literally F up your entire job because it's not precise and it's kind of not that nice. It doesn't have all these features and doesn't have square and blah blah blah. Yeah. And then you have to store it somewhere when you're done.
SPEAKER_01I feel like it's versatility matters too. Like if it is a tool that is something that is like hyper specialized, I'm totally fine just renting it. But if it is something that I could use on multiple applications or it's like, okay, I could do like a number of different types of work with it, then I feel like it's it's more worth a uh a purchase, personally. Joe, what do you think? What are you thinking over there?
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_03You guys whiffer a little bit. Um I'd definitely say how expensive is the work you're doing. Like, invest in a toll in my mind that if you're doing something expensive, it'll at least get the job done. You won't figure something up more than what the job is worth. I've seen a lot of people have had some jank circular saws in my family over the years, and if you just butcher wood, cuts are all up. I don't know, you get a nice circular saw, it makes a difference, at least in my limited experience with building shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I feel like some tools like that though, like I feel like a circular saw has like at least a 50% plus operator error to get result. Like what you're but like buying a nice circular saw isn't gonna get you as much of a better result as like a table saw, I think. But a nice circular saw does give you an opportunity to get a better result.
SPEAKER_03Okay, and then I I agree with the use case. How often are you using it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I definitely like yeah. Can you find a mul can you find uses in your life for the tool? And it's like as simple as that. Yeah. Then you gotta sell your wife on it. Maybe your children, maybe your children's children.
SPEAKER_01Or just tell her it was a free gift. I had so many Home Depot points built up, they just let me take this one home. Speaking of scams.
SPEAKER_00That, what a scam. Yeah, well. The pro pricing is great at Home Depot, but come on with these Joe and I have walked in there and dropped like 10 grand on some of these videos we've shot. What's the highest points back like we've gotten?
SPEAKER_01Like $50 worth. Yeah. And you have to spend like $10,000 to get like the $50. I think it goes like one,
five, ten.
SPEAKER_03You have to have a Home Depot gift card too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Lowe's was always so much better with that, I will say.
SPEAKER_03Lowe's has better, like, you can pull up LI. Yeah. If you're in the DeWalt line at least, Lowe's right now has some killer like buy, you get two five amp hour batteries, then you get two free tools. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I don't know, and they're decent tools. I feel like Lowe's always has the better bundles unless it's Milwaukee.
SPEAKER_01They're trying to suck you in. It's like the pirates. Like they always do all the specials, or it's like, oh, come to the game, we'll let you let you get a picture with the parrot, run the bases, get some merch, we'll let you play in the third inning. They'll let you run the Lowe's for a day. Don't don't don't act like you're going for any of those perks.
SPEAKER_00Although the one reason you go to Pirates games. Going to get high on hot dog day. This man has eaten a dozen hot dogs all by himself. Yeah, so that kind of that's where that's where I'm at. And I and it's funny now that as like I get older, I look back on like a lot of tools that I've purchased in my life. And um I wish I had a better like mental model. Because I got like I just had like I don't know, feelings at the time that I probably shouldn't have had. Like you ever walked in and you're like looking at that, you're looking at that Bosch Cube radio that's sitting there and you're like, I see all these influencers with this thing, and I think it'd be awesome, and I really should I shouldn't spend $400 on this thing. That'd be super nice. And then they get you and they're like, it's an extension cord. It's got multiple outlets on it. It's a tool. And you're like, I need that. Why? And now I own it and I have no idea where it is, and it's covered in dust, and I've done that probably a hundred times.
SPEAKER_01It's over there on the one rack. Is it? Yeah. You know another tool. I wish there was a damn it. I can go to this.
SPEAKER_03Do they?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Alright.
SPEAKER_00I just had to build, you know, a business with pen and boys to get that thing done. Tell me during time lapses that it's it's being used. Damn it. I didn't know what any of this means right now. But I've gotten I've had I've gone in there for those feelings and I've made those feelings purchases. We don't use it when you're here.
SPEAKER_01It is when you're you're out. I'm just blasting music. Sabrina Carpenter, play Taylor Swift. You gotta get those pop hits, get the dope.
SPEAKER_03Blame the internet. We can't have a lot of fun. I blame you for buying that radio because this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't in the shop. Yeah, royalty music. We got that DeWalt one too. Yeah. We got a Ryobi one or a Rick one somewhere. Sam bought me a little DeWalt speaker for my birthday. Just throw a little battery in it, a little portable one. It's actually incredible. Not even trying to be biased. The sound quality and like the loudness of it is nuts. For a toll brand speaker, I was genuinely sure.
SPEAKER_00Toll brand speakers seem like a gimmick, but if you were in the battery platform, they're legit. I'm big on turtle box right now. I got a turtle box. Oh, yeah, that's heard good things about those.
SPEAKER_03You only have to sell a kidney. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Jeff sold a kidney to buy me one for my birthday. Shout out to Jeff, his right nut, and he sold his right nut and his kidney.
SPEAKER_03If he wants the bigger box, don't even ask what you have to do for one of those. That's what he went for. The XL?
SPEAKER_00The XL. I guess sell your plasma. Yeah, he's he hasn't been to work for a month because he has no blood left in his body. No, but they're expensive. I'm just bougie. But I do like the uh the the branded stuff. So those I well, yeah. So go and looking back, I've gotten got with a lot of those like emotional buys or like a bundle buy. Seems like so right. Like if you're in, I you know what? You should there should be some part of the equation on if you buy something or if you don't, on how often are you going to that store. Because sometimes they get you with like you've been seeing something in the corner of your eye. And they got me with this back in the day on like the um on the Bosch combo kit uh angle grinders. Yeah and you'll be walking by and be like, there's only one 90 bucks, whatever, plug-in. It's cool. And then that one day you show up and it's a hundred and thirty dollars for two of them. And you're like, do I have a need for that? Absolutely not. Have I seen that price on that thing for a year? Yes. Give me both. I'm saving the 50. Golly, they're sitting on a shelf. I have no idea where they live now.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you guys have covered
all the new bases, though. I guess in your minds, when is it justified? Instead of purchasing something new, you go to the good old Facebook marketplace. What's that line for like, you know, I don't need this new, let's go try to find it used? Big. The tool's gotta be bigger. Like super expensive, do you think? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I do agree. If it's like a like a like a piece of like heavy machinery, if it's like a bigger plane or a joiner, you're always better getting something like that used. I mean, just from like a cost perspective. I will say when I had my little shop in South Carolina, which is like a like a one-room shop, every tool in there was sourced from Facebook Marketplace. It was strictly at the time, like just for cost. And I feel like you could make some miracles happen with Facebook Marketplace. Especially in the woodworking community, it's wild too, because you get a lot of people that like will get into the hobby and then exit the hobby and be like, my wife says I have to get rid of all of this stuff in like a week, and uh, you you can get some nice deals. Uh I'm honestly cool getting any woodworking tool used. I feel like there it's electric motors, it's you know, it's not much that could really go wrong with it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I'm I'm almost in 90% agreance, and the only place I like don't f with on the tool side of stuff from the used category is going to be like older battery platforms, right? You're usually like running rolling the dice on if you want to grab like an you know something that was like a little bit older in any of them because the batteries are probably smoked, and like that's where a lot of the price goes nowadays in the power tool stuff. But I'm 100% with you on like go build your workshop or wood shop or shop shop and whatever in your garage or your your your dream. Start out with used. There's so many opportunities to get good quality stuff. Um my old videos, dude, those like those shops, you were looking at a 70 to 80 percent used. Bought that bought that stuff really uh wherever I could. Yeah, huge. This is Craigslist days, too. Sometimes you'll actually know what Craigslist is, huh? I used to have to this is when I used to have to text message random people in my life to let them know where I was going and then I was carrying a gun. And if I couldn't find me and I didn't respond in 40 minutes, they should probably call. That's where you used to go buy all your drugs back in the day. If you want to talk about routers and random basements and pipe clamps from random people on the internet, then
yes. Hey, real quick before we get any further into it, I just want to take a second to thank First Form once again for sponsoring this week's episode. Craigslist is really wild when you think about it. Being like the starters of that whole era. You can buy anything, and I'm talking like like things that you can't talk about online. They had some shows about busting people that did that stuff.
SPEAKER_01That's where I got Norman from Craigslist. Yeah, that's nuts. No, I was I've had issues. Like I was desperate to try to find this cat for Kristen for Christmas, and I literally was on every website, Marketplace. I'm like, I haven't been on there in years. I should check out Marketplace. Went on there, chatted with this this lady. It was like two messages, PayPal, like some money, drove out, pulled up to your house. There's a big sign that's like, we don't call 911 with like two silhouettes of like two 1911s, went in. Excellent, excellent place. The cats were great, smooth transaction. I think Craigslist is still dangerous, but from time to time it's okay to use.
SPEAKER_03There's a whole era of them busting people selling illegal firearms on Craigslist. You can buy guns, you can buy people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can get services on Craigslist that shouldn't exist as services. And it's still up and operating, by the way. They've never updated the look of the stuff. No, that's what I hate now. There's a mobile site.
SPEAKER_03Why don't they update it? I don't understand.
SPEAKER_00So Craigslist is like a billion-dollar company with eight employees. Or something wild, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's actually it's nuts. They updated it a few years ago, I remember, just to this purple one. It looks exactly the same. I swear the purple would have been. They added some emojis. Yeah, you can rent apartments through Craigslist. Yeah, you can do all kinds, yeah, you can do a couple of things.
SPEAKER_00They've got Craigslist and every card. Yep. What do you guys want to buy?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right there, for four-sale tools. Do we have any cheap good cheap tool deals on there?
SPEAKER_00See, look, this is what I'm talking about. Air compressor, you got a blower, you've got a very old Chicago electric no longer. So there's a lot of so the snap on Craigslist community is huge. You like I feel like the more people are trying to sell snap on a Craigslist than they are on Facebook.
SPEAKER_01I feel like a lot you honestly find some deals on Craigslist because I feel like there's a lot of older people that you got look at that. Look at that.
SPEAKER_00New DeWalt tools straight off the back of a truck. A drill press. Oh yeah. That's 100% stolen. It still has the still.
SPEAKER_03There you go. Hilty still working, baby. Hundred bucks.
SPEAKER_00So anyway, um, used
tools. Yeah, I think there's a great place in in life and in your workflow for used tools. Now, I I the one thing I'll say about used tools is you've got to be kind of proficient enough to know how to like maintain them a little bit better. Like know what you're getting into. I went, I bought like four routers off of a dude. They're still somewhere in this shop. They're all those DeWalt like DC713s that I had or whatever they were called. That like just that that like run-of-the-mill DeWalt router that was so popular for a minute. I bought three or four of them off of a guy, and then I didn't realize like one of the collets was cross-threaded, two of them were missing, um, like a bearing or something, like the plugs didn't work, like the plug, it was a removable plug, which was a nice feature of the tool. Switch was broken on something or whatever. So, like, you got to be able to maintain the tools a little bit. Um, if you're getting into the used stuff, but that does kind of educate you on how to use the tools better. I feel like that's a good thing. That's a that's a better part of your skill set that I don't have is like you know how to maintain and how the tool should function way more than I do. I'm just like grab another one right in your last spot. This just needs a little bit of white lithium grease, aka Sands. Fix for everything.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I feel like woodworking tools are kind of like I feel like it's something that's like true just to woodworking tools where you do have to be like proficient, like working on the tool as well as like working with the tool.
SPEAKER_00Dude, that's so I remember when I was getting started in woodworking. I remember watching dozens of hours of tool setup videos. Yeah, that's the exact reason. You're like, this is before helical head and um interchangeable blade technology was like more available. Dude, setting up a joiner, I probably put a good 100 hours into like figuring that out. Oh yeah. And it's the worst.
SPEAKER_01That's how my dad's does a straight blade. It's the worst for straight blades.
SPEAKER_00You're off by like you're off by like a 64th Joe. You just you're no you're never gonna get 90 degrees on that thing. Back in the yeah, and then you're in like I was on a jank floor that had like concrete that was like all over the place, trying to like perfectly balance a joiner that I bought on marketplace that had like one belt missing, another one I replaced because I had to figure out what belts were. And yeah, you're totally right there. You're like woodworking tools, need like you have to be an engineer to figure out how to use it. Sounds like he should have invested a little bit more. Probably broke shit. I'm kidding. I literally didn't have money to pay rent, I was gambling to pay
my money. I was gambling for more tools.
SPEAKER_03That's probably out of all the stories you always said, I think that's probably the wildest story. Bro, he tell the audience that story.
SPEAKER_00It gets wilder that I was like bumming rides home from the casino from random people that like lived at the casino. When you're tapping like a 65-year-old woman on the shoulder that's ripping a heater at three o'clock in the morning while you're playing blackjack and asking her for a ride home because they can't get a cab or an Uber didn't exist. Yeah, life was different back then.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_00So when they cut off, they cut off the booze at like 1.30 at the casino, at least they used to. And um, so then you're just you're just literally sitting there with a bunch of other shit birds like yourself, like gambling. Till you go home. And yeah, there was there was a few times where me and the boys were on like either a heater or trying to crawl out of a ditch, and you're like, shit gets weird. And this was pre-Uber. So this is like taxicab days. Yeah. Yeah, it was it was dark. What are you doing tonight? How are you gonna go hang with your friends at the casino again? You get like the like that woman would. I remember there's specifically one time me and I'm on name name his name, me and a buddy were on a late night. It's like four or four thirty of the morning, we're leaving the casino, and this woman offers to give us a ride home, and it's just right right over the river to the south side, and she's like, My daughter, and tries to like solicit her daughters to us. Oh, wow. Like, no, just put me on this, get me over the bridge and let me out of the car. Sandy, and then like, I don't want any of that.
SPEAKER_01That's pretty wild that she's like like cherry picking for her daughter with like some shit bags that she met at the blackjack. And a couple of nice men of the casino for you, dear. These guys could they they were good at blackjack. They were they were good at blackjack.
SPEAKER_00So I couldn't invest, Joe. I was just trying to get by. I was I was scraping, scraping back then. Then I learned business. Now we're here. Do you still ever get the itch to gamble now? I love cards. Really? Oh, yeah. I mean, I gamble with my buddies all the time, but it's on like why don't we ever do any gambling as a team? Cornhole we do all the time. I literally offer you guys money to do dumb shit.
SPEAKER_03No, we've never like sat down, let's have a poker night, just a team. Yeah, no. Boys, we'll get we'll get some cards going.
SPEAKER_01Like I could get behind that. It's like one vice I don't have at all. I have no desire for. It's like cards entice you? No. Like card games? I mean, I I enjoy playing them, but I don't get the gambling rush. Like, I've been to a casino maybe like three times, and I'll like just have a hundred dollars when it's gone. Oh, and you just haven't done it right.
SPEAKER_00You don't do you have any friends that gamble?
SPEAKER_01No. That's your problem.
SPEAKER_00That's your problem. You need better friends.
SPEAKER_01I will nothing. The only thing that did almost suck me in was the uh sports betting. When I won, I I only placed one sports bet, one sports bet.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't even for a lot of money, but I was like, ooh, I could see how this could get kind of so there was no when I was your when I was like 21, casinos weren't like everywhere. You guys had that, and so we would have to travel out of state to go to a casino. So I remember we had two three days off, spring break, my junior, senior year, no, sophomore junior year of college. And me and two two buddies hopped in a car and drove to Canada because you can gamble in Canada at 19. And um so we went up poker and like the World Series of Poker from my generation was huge. So we played a lot of like poker and stud and whatever back in like middle school, high school when we had no money. So anyway, we go to Canada, like you get a little itch, come back, and then like you can't get to a casino unless you go to Vegas or go to like uh like a Riverboat casino or something because they weren't legal. They became legal. Pittsburgh put in their casino, and me and the boys were just like yes, any excuse. We would pre-game and go to the casino, we would post post party, go to the casino. Like, we would find excuses to go there all the time. And there's and just like even if you're playing minimum bets, you your buddy catches like I don't know, a $30 hand of roulette. Like, you're just like it's so the energy was phenomenal. And the the funniest part about Pittsburgh casinos is drinks aren't free. Yeah, like you're buying your drinks, but you go to Vegas and then they are free, and you just don't leave it. Like I've I've been to Vegas multiple times where I was just didn't leave a table. Um and you just sit there and drink for free and eat, like you just get people to bring you food and you just don't leave it. It's it's deplorable behavior, right? But um the uh the the thrill of like being there with your boys, like I've got two buddies that like our thing is the casino. Yeah, and like I'm talking like black, so it's it's hard to explain, but if you don't play blackjack, like blackjack, blackjack has a lot of um of like math that goes into it, and it's a lot of probability. And so there's probabilities that like this guy could win, and I could be sitting right next to him. I have no chance at winning, right? So like you fold, but then your boys like he gets, I don't know, he gets two sixes and he splits the sixes versus a six, and then he gets a five, and he gets a four, and he's doubling down on those two hands, and he's all of a sudden went from like a ten dollar hand, and now he's got 40, 50 bucks out there, and he hits it. It's like it's it's it's an incredible thrill.
SPEAKER_01I could say I I I think you have this gambling itch. I I never really knew it.
SPEAKER_00I don't know how you could be any have any Italian in your blood and cards aren't like a part of it. Because I remember growing up, like my mom and her girlfriends, and like my grandparents, like cards were just always out. Yeah. Like events and family events and all that kind of stuff. Do you ever get into a wild game of AC Deucey? No. I've Joe.
SPEAKER_03I'm not I'm not a big gambler. I think that's you don't have to be. I've been around a family event one time. Really? Yeah. I'm not I I I win money when I gamble. I just I don't have the urge to after I win just go play again. Like I've been to Vegas a couple times. I've won like five, six hundred bucks on a slot machine off of one spin and I've never played.
SPEAKER_00It's only 100% cards or dice.
SPEAKER_03You see, I have stupid luck though. Like I've I'll go play poker and whatnot, and I'll win, and then I'll just quit. Yeah. Like I just don't have the urge to keep going after I win.
SPEAKER_00I was growing up, World Series of Poker was so popular. I mean, it was on its rise up. It was at the pinnacle. They were household names.
SPEAKER_03We had all these celebrities ruin that shit for us. Yeah. They started throwing in everybody you could think of off a TV show all of a sudden playing poker.
SPEAKER_00People were like the Phil Helm youths of the world. Kevin Hart's playing World Series poker. I mean, these guys were making themselves. So it was like a big part of the millennial generation, I think.
SPEAKER_01But my favorite celebrity gambler is Toby McGuire. That man's wild. Is he? Oh, yeah. He got in a bunch of trouble years ago because he was getting frustrated going to these casinos, and he's like, I can't bet enough money. I want to gamble with more money. So he used to have like private gambling like poker uh like meetings at his house. No Toby. Yeah, because paying taxes there private, so you got a little heat.
SPEAKER_03Dana White, hearing him talk about gambling. Oh yeah, him, Michael Jordan, the judge one. But Dana White, dude, is such a he's banned from so many casinos.
SPEAKER_00Jordan gambles outside of casinos. Okay, he does the rewire.
SPEAKER_03He's in there in basements with the mob and losing. Why are they throwing Dana White out of the casino? He runs how dude, he'll he'll go in and like run through millions of dollars in a casino. Yeah. And they just like at the end of the day, they don't want you winning. And so some casinos like probably are okay with it.
SPEAKER_00Like they'll pay you out maybe too but he will come on like a public table and roll like three, four million dollars through the table. Well, which is just like hard the casino, the casinos are all like everything's calculated. They know how much money they're making every single day, every night.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you get that in there and it's just and he's there's videos of him.
SPEAKER_00It's pretty awesome, actually. I mean, I would love to hang out with Dana White. That man's intense. He was pissed after this weekend.
SPEAKER_01It was it was it was so funny. I literally was getting like sitting down because I just wanted to start watching when like Patty Pimblett went up and Kristen's like, I'm gonna get going to bed, let you watch like these fights. I was like, okay. And she didn't even like get her sleep mask on anything. Like, it's all over. What do you mean it's all over? Like, it's all done.
SPEAKER_00Back to the tool talk. Um, I'm way rather if you guys want us to dive more into like gambling and being degenerates, you know, you should probably check out the builder bunker. We should do a degenerate behavior episode of us gambling live online. We can do a live stream on the bunker plane.
SPEAKER_03What's the one with you have to like you bet a dollar amount and there's like the ship rising and you have to like bail out at a certain time after like Steve will do it, does it. I've all I've seen clips.
SPEAKER_00If you don't do any of that stuff, I would just be playing you guys in cards. Dan probably Dan probably got into poker at some point. Like it's like he's the only other 30-something here. Nico. Nico, maybe Nico too, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like call it. Tucker's probably getting into it. I mean, I can see Tucker counting cars. Degenerates, current degenerates.
SPEAKER_00We're all degenerates at one point. But the sports betting had me for a minute, too. Like this was pre pre-online sports betting. I had bookies coming to the like the shop.
SPEAKER_04I remember, uh, dude, you were fucking.
SPEAKER_00I'm so sorry, Sarah.
SPEAKER_01These guys with a baseball bat looking for you outside. Dead serious.
SPEAKER_03But I hate sports betting, but I got into it real heavy before you get back into tools. At one point, it was um before after it was the year the summer after I got engaged when I moved home. And my I remember you were watching like the one.
SPEAKER_00Why are you watching that?
SPEAKER_03Well, one of my buddies moved in and they were living with me. And every Sunday, dude, he's one of my best friends. Every Sunday, he'd be like, You place your bet yet? And I'm like, no, no. And he kept chipping away, and it got into Saturdays where college football, Shador Sanders and Coach Prime, their first season. So we were betting on those games, and we were betting on Sundays. I won a few times and just deleted the apps. I was like, I don't have the apps.
SPEAKER_00That's where you gotta be after. I I had a buddy of mine, he was living in Boston, and we'd be sitting there on the middle of the day on Wednesdays talking about what Mac game we were gonna bet on that afternoon, what parlay we were trying to hit. I was like, and this was this was pre all these gambling sites and stuff that make it really easy and accessible and actually considerably safer. I mean, I was literally sending stuff into a calling a bookie. I was like, all right, we're gonna do we're gonna parlay on you know on Akron versus frickin' Boise State on on Wednesday plus seven. Let me get uh third, and you were like, you had a yeah, physical papers. I had stuff like hanging around. It was deplorable behavior.
SPEAKER_01It's out of control now. Now you can bet on the weather, the golden globes. I remember they had like the poly market up. Calci, poly market. Polymarket and calcium are wild. That's insane.
SPEAKER_03You know what I think? The last thing I'll say is what's nuts is like McGregor was promoting Calci before that fight this weekend. How can he do that shit? I don't understand. The UFC's a different beast, but it's yeah, the the there's like no. I mean, I don't know. It's gonna swing the bets, and then he ended up losing.
SPEAKER_00Wild
world.
SPEAKER_03Anyways, uh, where did cheap tools actually win in the grand scheme of things?
SPEAKER_00Getting back to cheap tools. I think cheap tools win. Like it doesn't matter if you are a beginner or if you're a pro, they win when it comes to getting something done in a in a good cost um when it needs done, in my opinion. I feel like a cheap tool is something you do no research on, you don't give a shit about. You're in the store, you're like, I need that, you grab it, you go. Or you're you're like on a job site, something breaks, you need something, you run a harbor freight, or you run to the depot or lows, you grab the cheap one, you get back on the job, you get going quickly. That's where I think cheap tools thrive. Doesn't matter if you're just getting started or you've been doing it for 15 years.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I definitely I agree with pretty much every point you made there. And uh I think as long as it's it's typically something that, you know, it's it's here to serve a purpose. You have no deep connection to it, you know it's gonna get abused, rashed up, or maybe it's just a job that you're really not that connected to. But sometimes those tools that you rash up and abuse, they hang on for a long time.
SPEAKER_00They live with you for a while. I also so that would be my number one use case for cheap tools, is like that's when they're at their peak. Secondarily, I would say, is like if you're just getting into something and you don't want to dump a considerable volume of investment into it, let's say, like, say like you want to start working on your like vehicle, right? For me, I'm gonna go the cheaper route to invest in like some of these like jank products that we've tested before. Like, they'd be nice to have around like to do things that I don't necessarily know how to do at an expert level. Like, I'm gonna go get the Harbor Freight car jack before I'm gonna spend something on the expensive, super expensive one. Yeah, why? Because I don't really know if I'm gonna need that long term. So it's like another, it's like another area of like it kind of like it's like a it's like it'd be like drinking 80 proof like fireball before you get into like the real expensive shit. You know what I'm saying? It's just like wet the whistle. I kind of like being drunk, you know. This is like an entry-level drug. That's where I like cheap tools thrive there.
SPEAKER_03Very, very crazy comparison. You know the one cheap tool.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna go with a completely different analogy, and then it would have been made me look like an incredibly terrible human.
SPEAKER_01You know what one one cheap Harbor Freight tool that that I will say does kind of give me anxiety are the jack stands. Anytime I'm under a car with Harbor Freight jack stands, I always have this intrusive thought that's like yeah, was it worth it, Sam? You saved like 40 bucks. Was it worth it? This car's about to crush you. It's never happened.
SPEAKER_00But you know, yeah, I don't know. I feel like uh the fact that you are worried, like when you're working on a car, you're so skinny that the car could just be on its tires and you fit underneath it. What are you worried about?
SPEAKER_01Most of the time, unless you get that you got the wheel off, like it's you know, wheel bearing or something. Or you got a point.
SPEAKER_03I think another point too is like how easy can you go get the cheap tools? Are they like sold at a store? I think that's a perk. Like the hardware for it wins, right? Being able to get something everywhere and again and again if you need to. I do think like you get some of the cheap ones having to order online if you have to. Yeah, that's an inconvenience.
SPEAKER_00I think cheap tools online are percentage-wise more scammy. Because you're like, I can't hold it. I don't know what I'm getting. Amazon tools are shows up and it's kind of junk. Yeah. And then you're like, I'm stuck with it. If you're like me and you hate returning shit. TikTok shop, Amazon. Right? Yeah. But like a cheap tool in a store, at least you get your hands on it, you can touch it. You can feel it, you could be like, I know this is a piece of shit, but I'm still gonna burn, I'm still gonna buy it.
SPEAKER_01You could look at it from the other perspective though, which is that like the cheap tools that are in stores, like they have to be like properly vetted, and it's like, okay, it's like a reputable brand, but for that same cheap price, you might find some weird Chinese clone of the tool that's like way more powerful. Like, I feel like you could get a more powerful Amazon Chinese drill than you could, like, I'm gonna go to Lowe's and get a little craftsman one. True. It won't last as long. It might blow up in your hand, but you might get a little extra.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, when that thing's like on fire and the molten plastic is burned into your palm, you're gonna be like, I probably should have touched this before I spent money on it.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. They get people, man, like on Amazon with the fake batteries and all the fake stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we they get us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We've gotten got a lot of wallet feels the pain. I don't know. I was at my aunt's house
this weekend. We help her uh helped her take down a pool and a pool? A pool. She had like an above ground pool. Above ground swimming pool? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is this your first time doing that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Isn't it like insane? It's actually there were so many bees that just get up inside the plastic pieces.
SPEAKER_00It was the worst thing in the world. Dude, like an above-ground swimming pool is like an anomaly of physics.
SPEAKER_03They have like these metal brackets, they poured quickset on the bottom. It was this whole thing.
SPEAKER_00It's like basically just like the minute one part fails, the whole thing just goes to pieces.
SPEAKER_03We ended up cutting the liner and letting it all drain down a hill, but we had that. We had an above-ground pool growing up. Yeah. So we took it down for her, but I I was looking through her uh tools that she had in her garage, and she has all these DeWalt tools, and it's sick, but then she has all these fake batteries for them. She had no idea. I didn't break her heart, I couldn't do it. I didn't want to tell her, hey, you don't use these on your tools, it might not last that long.
SPEAKER_00She's the one that needs that flammable cabinet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_00Whatever happened to that? The flammable cabinet? Remember, we were supposed to get two of those?
SPEAKER_01Sam was hyped. We were at Sam's Club and someone or no, we weren't. I was at Sam's Club when you sent the text message, but uh you said that you stopped. It was such a memorable moment.
SPEAKER_00I think they stopped answering. It was like it was like 9-11 for Sam. He knew exactly what it was. It was the moment in time. It was incredible. We almost had that cabinet.
SPEAKER_03They stopped answering emails. I followed up like three times and got ghosted, so I just I feel like we have a hundred plus lithium batteries in this building.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's it's it's a scare. Yeah. It definitely is scary as all the TikTok batteries are like containers in the back corner of the building.
SPEAKER_00They're like we're intentionally putting them in like oil drums with sealed loops.
SPEAKER_03The worst part is it's near our fuel cabinet in the back with all the flammable shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Don't tell people. There's nothing. Hey, Jerry, we're good, dude. It's all snuff here.
SPEAKER_03Like, thanks, bro. My insurance is. Jerry, it's in a contained correct cabinet for all the five. We actually just moved them to the new building.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's I that does make me sad, though, is you can walk like like your poor aunt probably isn't poor in time in a research. No, for she's barely used.
SPEAKER_03She has a little DeWalt mower and weed whacker, it's what she uses them for, and it's like she'll get her use out of it.
SPEAKER_01But I've met a lot of contractors that'll deliberately get the sheep, they'd rather burn through them. Literally, yeah. They're like, I don't care.
SPEAKER_03My dad does that shit. I got these new Milwaukee batteries. Oh, really? Yeah, they were only 40 bucks. For really, they're like eight and a half amp hour batteries.
SPEAKER_01Like plastics melting off the back. I will say you have like a real clapped-out tool, why not? Why not just roll the dice with it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, if it's clapped out, but like I see people using them on like new tools.
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't do that.
SPEAKER_03They're throwing them in brand new Milwaukee drivers or drills and just letting them ride. Yeah, I wouldn't do that. I don't know. I couldn't do that.
SPEAKER_00The fake battery worries me more than the fake tool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, 100% of the time. Yeah. I don't know. Invest in the battery.
SPEAKER_00You peel them open and then you're like the connectors are loose and there's like some jank kind of like soldering going on in there. Real big, real big fire hazard.
SPEAKER_03All right. Well, this moves us into our Hold on, Joe, before the tool bracket here.
Oh, we have Sam's Snack segment.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, let's take a break before we get into any bracketology here. Because I mean, obviously, oh God. What the is this? Take drunk? Take three of those for three?
SPEAKER_01Take Actually, wait, back over here. Actually, no. Hold on to this. I've changed my mind a third time here. Alright.
SPEAKER_03So I was at uh Don't tell me this is that pickled shit. No.
SPEAKER_01I was at Trader Joe's this weekend and I was like, what should I get for the podcast? And I was like, you know something? I honestly think all of us are gonna get down. That's a nice cooler. Um, but I think this is something free market, right? It's from Rogers, Ohio. We got it for five bucks. It's the Teamsters. He spent five dollars on that. But I think this is something we could all get down with here. I I really do enjoy some kombucha. So I got three different types of kombucha to try. This one, I I've I love this one. This is just the regular Synergy. This is just the regular Synergy one. I've I haven't tried these ones though, so I thought we could sample each of these. This one, I believe there's some cactus in there. I woke up today and I was like, you know what I want? I want some damn cactus. This one's root beer. So you know what kombucha is. Kombucha is uh it's tea that is fermented. So whenever they ferment the tea, it eats all the sugar that's in like the tea, and then it uh creates all these little probiotics. So they claim there's like nine billion living probiotics in these. So it's like the science is very debatable on it, but they say it's supposed to be good for your gut health, they'll cleanse out your liver, it'll help neutralize free radicals in your body. No, I need that. Yeah, you don't want to mess around with that. I like free radicals. I don't like them free ones. Yeah, never no one's a free radical nowadays. But yeah, we can start with just the regular real kombucha. You've never kombucha?
SPEAKER_00Have you ever kefured? You read kefir? Yeah. Uh it's like a cultured um yogurt. Uh same same concept, though. It's like one's real big into caster in a couple years. For your gut microbiome. That's like basically what the kombucha is for. All right, we'll get these poured up. I'm not I don't hate this one as much as I normally hate everything that you do. See, I think this is the this is the funny anomaly of Mr. Pula here is Sam will. Sam will bring in uh like a gas station microwave like churro and then follow up with something that's supposed to make you healthy. This is why you're a cockroach.
SPEAKER_03You've had this on ice for 72 hours, dude. Oh wow, it is like smoking cold and spilling this shit everywhere. So do you do this in a shot or do you slow sip it? Oh, you can drink the whole thing. Yeah, you drink the whole bottle.
SPEAKER_00You gotta sit on the toilet pretty close after.
SPEAKER_03Really? There's lots of things. Have you never had kombucha before? No, I really haven't.
SPEAKER_01I know he I I've had a feeling he did just because he's real into the probiotics and shit.
SPEAKER_03Ashley has.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I've had kombucha because I'm an adult in this late 30s that's trying to stay live. Well, this will do it. I don't even say anything else about that. Huh? Don't bring my gut my microbiome into this.
SPEAKER_01Go get that healthy gut.
SPEAKER_00What happened to it when we were just doing shots and getting drunk on this show?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we haven't done a happy hour yet. We're gonna do a drinking episode coming up here soon. Are we? If this gets six likes. If we get ten shares. Well you can we even track shots. Aren't you out coming up here one of these Mondays soon? Yeah, yeah. So like I was thinking we'll do it like in an afternoon. We'll do a late episode. We'll just try some alcohol.
SPEAKER_00Try it before you buy it. The regular cambucha fruit juice.
SPEAKER_03That's actually good.
SPEAKER_00It's fine, yeah. A lot of ginger. I like that's kind of tart. I could drink that. It's tart. Probably got some um cranberry in there.
SPEAKER_01Maybe some pomegranate. Yeah, these two I haven't tried. I've never, yeah, I don't know how the root beer. I guess we could save the root beer for last. This one is aqua. Oh, wait, this is kefir.
SPEAKER_00Is this just named kefir? Uh aqua de kefir? Yeah. So I think kefir might be like a word used for gut health.
SPEAKER_01Uh okay. It says it's a juicy and succulent and drenched in benefits. Any of you ever been described like that? I've never been describing as being drenched in anything. Oh. Have you ever been described as drenched in something? No, but juicy and succulent, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Glass will be. I'd do a descriptor on a product we sell for somewhere. Juicy and succulent.
SPEAKER_03Hmm. Interesting kick on that one.
SPEAKER_00Tastes like a shitty energy drink. It it does. It's cold enough that you can get it down, but it definitely has like it definitely has like energy drink vibes.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why the carbonation and all it kombucha, it tastes different than like a soda or something. It has like a lot of bite to it. It's naturally carbonated.
SPEAKER_03It's also very cold. So like drinking it is pleasant.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. This one smells good. It literally smells exactly like root beer. Let's see, come on now. It doesn't taste like root beer.
SPEAKER_03No, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. Yeah, I'm not a fan of that one. That one's awful. It's like a poor man's. I don't even know. Yeah, they should have just Why even go to the root, man? It smells exactly like it.
SPEAKER_01You drink it just super sour.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Shoot. There's like a brands that make like kombucha pop.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Yeah, they're I feel like probiotics and protein are just into everything now. They're both good for you. You should get more of them. You know they have probiotic or no, it's prebiotic Pepsi now. No. Yeah, they sell they sell it in. They must be on the struggle bus. Oh, they are. They're trying everything, man. Must be on the struggle bus.
SPEAKER_03Alright, thanks, Paul. That was actually a great one. I do feel mildly refreshed. I do enjoy that.
SPEAKER_00And I don't want to immediately go like crying a corner because I like the refreshing stuff for your snack segment.
SPEAKER_03It's so hot outside, 95. We need something to cool us down, you know. Kombucha. Cool you can. Just the boys and some cool drinks, you know? Mm-hmm. Some cool.
SPEAKER_00The boys and some cool kombucha. Weirdness. How are we weird? What? What
do we got here, Joe? I see something fancy dancy on the case.
SPEAKER_03We have a weird tool bracket here, is what we have. Alright, we're gonna go through in a toll bracket um and we're going to pick which tool you should never cheap out over. What you should should spend your most money on. So if it moves on, it means you should spend money on it and not cheap out. Yeah. Okay. So we can start with Sam. We're gonna have Sam do the whole bracket and we'll work our way over.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Pull up first, uh cordless drill driver versus circular saw.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna say spend the money on the circular saw.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Table saw and ladder.
SPEAKER_01You better pick. Spend the money on the table saw.
SPEAKER_03Uh Jack stands and multimeter. They're so different.
SPEAKER_02The internet? I'm good. Why is multimeter even on there?
SPEAKER_03Just popular tools. I'm gonna say jack stands. Um tape measure and respirator. Come on! It's not that hard. Just pick one. It's easy. Everything's hard for him. Tape measure. Okay, tape measure and jack stands. Jack stands. Wow. Table saw and what'd you pick? Circular saw. Circular saw and table saw. Table saw. Okay, so then you have table saw and jack stands.
SPEAKER_01Give me the table saw. Wow. It was so biased. I don't I don't claim that was the objective. You know what's the funny part about your bracket?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're not wrong. He literally. Your purchase habits would negate every decision you made. Like I know for a fact you're buying the more expensive of the opposite of everything you said, except for table. Nah, no. You're definitely, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I definitely take the table saw over the ladder. I'll take a fall from the ladder.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01The price of the table saw, there's only one option to keep the fingers.
SPEAKER_00What's that? This the saw stop. Well, if it's at the end, that means I can spend the most amount of money on it. He is so literal with these things. For all the imagination you have, for this one, you're like, nope, it's exactly that. The most money I spend is on the last thing that wins the break.
SPEAKER_01It's so hard because I'm just play playing through all these like hypothetical scenarios, and I don't know. I I don't know if I made the right call. I don't know if the call.
SPEAKER_03I want to hear what yours are. Uh cordless drill driver or circular saw?
SPEAKER_00I'm saying drill driver because you're using the tool considerably more often as a general person alive with air going into your lungs.
SPEAKER_03Table saw or ladder?
SPEAKER_00Table saw.
SPEAKER_03Jack stands or multimeter.
SPEAKER_00I have zero need for either one. So let's go with the jack stands. Tape measure or respirator. Respirator. So why the hell would you buy a cheap respirator? You're like, wow, you know, I'm just gonna put this tissue paper over my mouth.
SPEAKER_03He doesn't even wear masks.
SPEAKER_00No, this dude doesn't do anything. I have to force him to wear safety glasses.
SPEAKER_01This is a contract. I use a respirator when I spray, but I'm like thinking to myself, like, well, if we're making a project, would I rather know that everything is precise and at the right size, or would I rather hang on for an extra couple years? Those are the diaper years. No one wants them anyway.
SPEAKER_03Respirator and jack stands. Uh respirator. Then what did you pick? Table saw or ladder? I picked table saw. So table saw or cordless drill driver?
SPEAKER_00Uh cordless drill driver. You're using it more often in a in a just a general respirator or cordless drill? Cordless drill driver. So I think like a normal person is gonna use their drill and impact driver considerably more often than almost any other tool they buy. Like you find yourself in your house, in your shop, under your vehicle, even if it's completely incorrect usage, right? Everyone's using that tool more. I feel like if it was And you can get a cheap table saw and get incredible results. My first three table saws were all used and cheap. Yeah, you're not wrong. My work sucked, but that's me, not the not the saw.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't the saw's fault. I feel like the only reason I put the drill and driver so low, if it was like seven to ten years ago, I'd put it higher up on the list. But like even the cheapest drill drivers we use, it still turns to the left, turns to the right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but like you're not gonna go buy the Timu knockoff impact drill driver.
SPEAKER_01No, but you can get away with a Ryobi, like a Ryobi.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well we're talking Timu versus like the top line. I didn't know. Timu or Festal, like you're going Festal. Oh, you're not I don't know. Since you've ran us both through cordless drill and circular saw. Cordless drill driver. Expected that. Table saw ladder. Ladder. Jack stands or multimeter. The most difficult one.
SPEAKER_03Multimeter. What?
SPEAKER_01You have to adjustify that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You ever use a good multimeter?
SPEAKER_01I don't even know how to turn one on. I I have to be honest, every time I kick a multimeter on, I've got to immediately Google, like, all right, how am I gonna how am I gonna read this now? What do you use jack stands for? Someone changes my oil. I'm with you there. We started on Jack Sits. Ooh. Sorry about that.
SPEAKER_00You just ruined the whole thing. Tape or respirator? Definitely respirator. Alright. So we've got cordless driver or ladder? Ladder. Multimeter or respirator? Respirator. Okay, ladder or respirator.
SPEAKER_03Ladder. What are you should you should invest in a good ladder? I mean, you're not wrong. That's a true statement. I think ladders, honestly, are very important to whatever you're doing. They are.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I will say the ladder fall is the equivalent of like a blown knee in like football. Like every every great contractor has a story where it's like, I was on top of my game until I fell off that ladder.
SPEAKER_02Like how many great. I've also been on terrible ones that I've fallen off. But like I'm not, it's you're a lot closer to the ground. Bull and I over here, the higher rum we get up.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it's more of a flat.
SPEAKER_00I'll get on it. Like, I trust it. That's okay. Wooden ladder's the only thing where I'm like, guys, it's not 1880. My grandfather built this ladder during the Great Depression. Like, nope, they had aluminum then. And ladders were made out of them. Yeah. Very interesting bracket. Is there anything we forgot on there for those of you at home? Like, I'll say that if you wanted to see some tools fight it out in a bracket, please leave us a voice message and we'll potentially listen to it on the air to fight it out. Because uh I can't, I just can't believe the internet thought Jack Stan's and Multimeter should be in the same bracket together. I feel like Jack Stan should be fighting like a uh carjack.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Multimeter should be over there fighting.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna buy you a multimeter for Christmas. You need to think we have like six of them here. You need a good one, John. I think you bought me a good one. It's in the plastic in the back.
SPEAKER_00I don't know when to pull that out. We're not just like do you want me to start jamming in shit?
SPEAKER_03Check if a battery's bad or not. A battery on what? Anything you can imagine. The most useful car. Car battery? You can do it on a car battery. House battery? If you have a battery at your house for sure. Double A? You could do triple. What about quadri? What about nine volt? Uh you can do nine and d's. What?
SPEAKER_00Doubles. Actually, perfect use cases. My wife will buy a hundred D batteries for the holidays every year because we have all these damn garlic.
SPEAKER_03I probably could use the shitty ones for this, but I with all of the problems.
SPEAKER_00If you're telling me that this can solve that, you know, I can just yell at her and even. Anything electrical wouldn't like you guys been having issues with. I mean, it'd be good. It's considerably easier to just buy the batteries. No, I mean, I just I'm not gonna lie. Give uh You guys also have city water. My my uh my electrician buddy. He would always be busting out a multimeter to like get proper readings on all the tool stuff that I've wired up over the 10 years I've done this. I w never once was I like, I need to learn that.
SPEAKER_01I guess I'll say this about multimeters. Anytime I've needed one, I've always been upset that I didn't have like a nice enough one. Like in the video in like videos, it's like, oh, set like check, put the ohms on ABC or D and get your alligator clips. I'm like, I don't have alligator clips or like this or the needle clips.
SPEAKER_03I think I've already converted you guys to multimeter for the case.
SPEAKER_00I think I have two South Point ones in the back and a Klein one. I just have no idea. Oh yeah, we got we got one at uh Roger. Right, we do have the Klein. Yeah, it was my you gifted it to me. Still multimeters. That's a good multimeter. Still digesting those burgers, huh?
SPEAKER_03Maybe. Probably a forever chemical. We have another fun one coming up. Should we tell them the news that we're
moving? What? We're moving at the outro, you know, coming soon, new studio.
SPEAKER_02Don't tell them. Don't tell them that yet.
SPEAKER_00Why the hell did we make this call?
SPEAKER_03What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're gonna be moving studios. Sam, he said the this peacock ought to fly. He needed more space, more creativity. So we got him another chair to sit it in a different room with a different camera. It's gonna be awesome. Comment below. What should we have in the studio? Yeah, that'd be cool. Obviously, this this vibe here, you know, is uh electric. It can be more electric and more multimeters measuring set electricity. See what I did there. Excellent. And that's gonna be a wrap on this episode. Uh share this with your worst enemy and let us know what tool you hated that we talked about today. We'll see you on the next one.
