Welcome to the Voice Notes Podcast. Let's get into it. Speaking of cheerleading, let's get into sports. This is the first one.
SPEAKER_03How about those Nicks? Yeah. 53 years. That is crazy. I was just so thrilled, thrilled for my friend, Swag Lee. I'm telling him because he has been there in that soft row as long as it's like consistently. Like I mean, I mean, I remember even with in the in the hype of the the Bulls and the Knicks rivalry, which is why I am not a Knicks fan, because I do have, I don't have selective memory, by the way. So I will never like them. But I was happy for the city, I was happy for him, I was happy for my true diehard friends. I mean, and I watched the parade, it was pretty cool. Yes, I really like that. So uh 53 years. It was um there's nothing like your favorite team in the world winning. But at the championship. That's what makes it even because they came so close a lot of times. They were in the um, they were in the the the semif um the conference finals and then like the the second round of the playoffs, and they just got so close. They never beat Jordan, of course. Um but uh I just had to put that in there. But yeah, after 53 years there, there is nothing like it. And just the way that they they did it, because the Spurs were definitely the favorite. Yeah, yeah. They were the favorite, they were you know, the the Spurs had gotten through the Thunder, who won last year, you know, and it was a hard fought seven game series. So the way, I mean, everyone was like, you know, the Spurs are going, they had home court advantage, yeah. You know, that the Spurs were, you know, it's gonna be a too tough test um, you know, against the Knicks. And then the Knicks just they took the first two games, you know, um, they took away that home court advantage, you know, um, and then they went into um they went back home and you know, stole that um stole that one game and then came back to San Antonio, and I just feel like they were just like, we are not going, we're gonna win here.
SPEAKER_00I think after the first two games we're gonna win here. I think people, the true fans were like number one in shock. In shock. Like, what is going on right now?
SPEAKER_03I remember talking about to take this. I remember talking to Cliff and he was like, he's like, Nick, we might we might do it in six. Exactly. We might do it in six. Exactly. And I think that really thought that it was gonna go seven, it was gonna go the Spurs way, right? You know, but he was like, I think we got this.
SPEAKER_00But I'm also glad they didn't win in New York.
SPEAKER_03Can you imagine?
SPEAKER_01With the World Cup, with the World Cup, with the World C with the World Cup.
SPEAKER_00Can we imagine? I was in the city last night, and I'm like, I don't even know what this was like when the Knicks I can't even imagine how that was. I know.
SPEAKER_03And you saw what you saw the things that happened when they just won one of the best games. I know. Can you imagine if they won the championship that you know in New York? Good thing they won it in San Antonio, then they bought the championship. Yeah, exactly. That's why. And then you had like a couple of days in order to prepare for the um for the parade. But I am I'm happy for those true, those true diehard fans that have been through the good, the bad, the ugly, the awesome. Stick through it, you know, because there's nothing like it. That's what you've seen in your um lifetime.
SPEAKER_00That's why I tell Kian, you can't give up on your giants. No. They may come back one day and just be you can't give up. You can stick with your truth. Yeah, but you don't talk in a lot of smack. I can't say that. I live in a Met and Jet. Jet, yes.
SPEAKER_02Mike is objective in my house. Hateful! Hateful. I mean, I tell Mike all the time that it's islanders, right?
SPEAKER_03Is the devil or um islanders for hockey? No, Rangers.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Rangers. This year they suck. They were really bad. I don't even know what's going on. I'm like, they suck. Oh my brother, what's happening? No, yeah, it's it's rough. Yeah, this year was a rough year, bro.
SPEAKER_03Me and Mike are always talking about we're always talking about our sports teams. And he was like, Well, at least Nicky, you saw the uh the Niners win in 94. I was like, Yeah, it was like 20, 24, 23. But uh he was like, The Jets? Never in my lifetime have I seen this. He suffers. Oh, well, then I won't complain. No, he suffers. He suffers greatly. I won't complain.
SPEAKER_02And like it's like a constant thing. I'm like, oh, how'd your team do? He's like, they suck.
SPEAKER_03They suck. It is it's it's a thing. It's it's a thing. I don't understand how passionate I am like it's it's not normal to be this passionate about a team. They don't even know I exist. But I am like so passionate. I get so, so annoyed.
SPEAKER_01Have the 49ers won the Super Bowl in your life?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, 94. Yeah, 94. Not since then. No. We just got close. But that's what I'm saying. You just never lost.
SPEAKER_01You never know, though.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I won't keep hope alive. I will always, always keep hope alive. So yeah, so um the Knicks, the Knicks winning. So uh basketball is over. Yeah. Um the World Cup right now. Yeah. So um the final I think is in July. July 19th. Yep. Um, and it's at Met Live. Okay. So that's gonna be crazy.
SPEAKER_00So, Nick, can you break this down for me? Like, how how does is the World Cup like basketball where they narrow it down to two?
SPEAKER_03So I don't so I don't know too much about the World Cup because I don't really watch soccer. I know it's only is it every four years like the Olympics? Every four years.
SPEAKER_02Is that it's like every four years like the Olympics, but I don't know too much about the World Cup. And I just really do narrow it down. Is it a narrow down? I'm not sure. Because they have them like what is in it's in Florida, it's in Boston, yeah, Philly, right? One is in Philly, yeah. So they've been like playing, and then we have our teams that are playing here. Yeah. Um, I'm like upset we haven't had the Scots. I want the Scots here. You want the Scots? No, they've been watching them. I've been watching it, it's hilarious. I've been having so much joy watching the Scots just be Scots with the cones everywhere. I think they're in in um Miami now. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's been a trip to watch them. Or the Norwegians and their rowing. The Norwegians and the rowing! Everywhere they go. Yes. Like, give us the Norwegians.
SPEAKER_00But dude, can we talk about like how hot these soccer flies? Oh, the Nigerian bullying.
SPEAKER_02I was like, hello, what like is this? What are we doing? Uh-huh. How are you doing? Yes, I was like, we are have more edits to add. Exactly. Nicky knows about my fan edits. Oh yes! I'm in the hundreds now. We love the Vex fan edits. Fan edits were? Yeah. At Book Club, I just play like hot videos of hot men. No! But I'll go like through like the and you can tell when I've had a phase. Like I had a huge John Berthall phase. Oh, yeah. So then it'll be like let me switch this a little faster because it's like 10. And then I'll be like anybody, like and I'll it'll be like clips of them in a show or something just being hot. And I played for a book club because I'm like, I think you need to appreciate it. See? I love that.
SPEAKER_03Becca loves uh good thighs. Oh yeah. Yeah, I'm a thigh. She loves one of the thighs. One of the Niners players, Nick Bosa, he has very nice standards. Thin legs. He's hot.
SPEAKER_02He's dumb as bricks. But he is dumb. That's okay.
SPEAKER_03To speak. He doesn't say that. He doesn't need to stand. He doesn't even um, you know, they have like obligations that they have to do after a game. He can't even he really can't talk at all. He's so stupid. Yeah, no. He doesn't like three. And I'm telling you, him coming off that edge with the What's his name? TJ Watt. He's amazing.
SPEAKER_02The JJ Watt? JJ Watt isn't it? J Watt? Yeah. And also the TJ Watt. Oh. I feel the cast. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Mayflaw, of course, is always still still going on. I feel like I'm pretty sure it's all my husband's dies first. I was like, wait.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Second. Yeah. As of today for the bracket for World Cups. For World Cups. So today, South Africa and Canada play, but Canada won. So Canada is now in the July 4th. They went up one bracket.
SPEAKER_00So they do narrow it down. And right now.
SPEAKER_01Canada's the only one, I guess, in the games that'll be like July 4th seems to have July 4th, July 6th, July 4. Oh, they're playing July 4th, July 7th, July 5th. There's gonna be a bunch of games that week, and then that game gives you the next bracket, and that's what goes into the final bracket, which is July. Alright. Okay. Um, and then I just was looking at it online. So yeah, I don't know enough about it, but I do know what I enjoy looking at. Yeah, exactly. And I probably will definitely watch the final.
SPEAKER_02And it's kind of fun about watch parties like the special. The watch parties are fun. And you have to watch it in Spanish, though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you should watch it in Spanish.
SPEAKER_02The sportscasters there? Come on. For like 10 minutes. And it's like in different colors.
SPEAKER_03For them. For the recap and the highlights of the game in them. Like a school.
SPEAKER_02A restaurant and like for Gamboy or Elizabeth. Yeah. Or Noor. St. Noor. And the all the Colombians, they're like, they are like, and it's love. And they have like their own sports casters in the building. Good girl and goal, and he's on the stage. And we're like, where did this guy come from? He's here to just tell everyone what's happening and we're seeing it happening. We have it sometimes too. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_03It's amazing how you get like, and you go for like your country too. You're like, yes, USA! I feel like I'm like that when the women come around.
SPEAKER_02Who the soccer for the USA team are, and they're like, What have you heard about? That's funny about the US Americans. And having a soccer team, a lot of people are unaware, but you cannot take away our competitiveness. Oh it's like we're gonna win though, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, it's been hilarious. The USA is one of the most the terrible one, right? Are they not doing really good? I'm looking to say that.
SPEAKER_01A favorite to win, that's what I mean. They're not a favorite to win. But everybody don't know what we're gonna win. They're gonna play Bosnia and Herzegovina on the first. Oh, okay. Okay. US Bosnia. Tomorrow is gonna be Germany and Paraguay. Yeah. Oh. Alright. France and Sweden. Sweden. Uh Suites. I don't like blonde. Listen, I don't like blonde, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uruguay. I don't know. I don't know who I don't know who Uruguay. Oh, let me look. Not sure. I actually'm like Portugal. Just because I love the Portugal.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness. I was wondering Germany, something the nail salon had it on. I think Uruguay. That was hilarious.
SPEAKER_01Uruguay is out. I don't think so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah. Argentina versus Cape Verde. I think Argentina is one of the maybe one of the favorites to win. Panama, they played the S week. Panama and England. In England advanced.
SPEAKER_02One of those teams that had at the nail salon because it's funny. That's hilarious.
SPEAKER_03It was so funny. But it's so good that you know the World Cup is um this summer, so that's good. Because now like sports have kind of like died down. Um even though like Wimbledon starts tomorrow. Um the Wimbledon tennis, the the Grand Slam of all Grand Slam. So like my favorite redhead uh Italian boy is back. Sinner? Sinner! Yeah, you pay attention. Yeah, he's back. So he was uh yeah, he got knocked out in the the French Open pretty early in the second round. I was devastated. And um, but he was he was winning a lot and he was just tired, so he needed to like uh so he like kind of went off the radar. So now he's back. It starts tomorrow. So um of course that's in London. Um, but this is the most there's four Grand Slams of the year, and this is the most prestigious one. So um there's the Australian Open, the US Open, the French Open, and then Wimbledon is not even called like Wimbledon Open. This is how bougie they are. It's the championships at Wimbledon. Oh excuse me. Okay in London, England. And also they can only all the uh the players they can only wear white from head to toe. That's a Wimbledon thing, right? That's a Wimbledon like English. That's interesting. Yeah, they're so like bougie and like classy and like very preppy. Yeah, so I mean like um one of one of one of the guys, Nick Kirrios, he he's a rebel in like the tennis world. So he came on like with red sneakers uh two years ago, got fined. Like he's like, I'll take it. It had like your hat, your uniform, your your sneakers, your socks, everything has to be white. Now the ladies can wear uh black unum black undershorts like underneath their their uniform white. Before it used to be all white. Okay, you know, they um like they said something about that and like you know got that change because they're like really, you know, they need to be happy. Yeah, they need to be respectful of the women, you know, about that. So they can wear black underneath, but otherwise, all white white at the championships at Wimbledon. Okay, so yeah, so that's for the next uh for the next two weeks, and then um OTAs is hap happening with football, and then training camps, and then football tennis back August. Fall will be here. Oh my god, yes, thank goodness. So the weather, boots, and scars, and football. Cannot cannot wait. But uh, but yeah, so next two weeks I'll be you know watching tennis. Um that's our sports segment. Thank you, Nate. Thank you for keeping us a few weather. It's my green job. Hopefully, I'll get it one day.
