Curse of Strahd - Episode 17 'Baba Lysaga'

The long awaited battle with Baba Lysaga takes an unpredicted and unfortunate turn in this intense episode.

Thank you all for joining us for episode 17 of our Curse of Strahd adventure. Last episode began as the players left Rictavio's Tower and headed for Argonvostolt to see what secrets lie within and what assistance they could get from Vladimir, the leader of the Order of the Silver Dragon. So they left, they arrived. It seemed like a very empty, dilapidated, worn down castle, showing its age very much. Went inside, saw a bunch of busts and portraits of uh the altar egos. Not to mention the huge knockers on the door.

Um went along, saw all the altar egos of Argonvost, the silver dragon for which this castle is named.

Oh. You did. Sorry, I wasn't feeling good last time. And the the main guy uh was Lord Argonvost that he that the dragon transformed into. Very handsome man. Um quickly uh found a uh this little dragon dust meffit dragon type thing uh in a chimney uh or a fireplace that shot out um and was able to communicate with you. Told you that Vladimir was just upstairs, so uh very quickly uh found Vladimir upstairs, communicated with him. He was very wary of giving you assistance because it seemed like you guys wanted to kill Strahd. He was right. Um so you tried to negotiate with him, he was not having it. He really doesn't want Strahd to die, he really wants Strahd to suffer in this hellscape that he's created for himself. Um and so he was not going to let you leave without a real plan on how to defeat Strahd without killing him. So uh he pointed you in the direction of possible information, which you did find as uh a little journal entry uh that described Argenvast and his bones, and how his bones uh if they are in Argenvostolt in the correct place, create a beacon of hope. So uh clearly Argenvost's bones are not here. Went back, spoke with Vladimir. He said maybe they're in Castle Ravenloft. Of course. So he let you leave based on the fact that you told him you would retrieve Argon Argonvost's bones from Castle Ravenloft, bring them back, and light the beacon. That would piss Strahd off. Mm-hmm. Um so you've you've got a couple different things to do in Strahd's castle other than just fighting Strahd. You've gotta get Argonvost bones, you've gotta get his brother's sword, you if if you want to find that uh mechanical man that Blinksy wanted you to find. Right, and fucking daughter, yeah, Gertruda. See if she's in there. And then one more that you found out about at the werewolf's den, Emile. Oh, her hubby, right? Who is your new compatriot that um was foretold by Madame Eva Zulika Torinescu.

We have to find Emile before he becomes Emile.

Yes. She fears that uh that her husband Emile, uh both of them werewolves, um, that her husband Emile is either dead or trapped in Strahd's castle. You have not found out why. It was kind of a quick operation. Um, but yeah, as you snuck around, uh you snuck yourselves all the way through the werewolf's den uh with the help of some ranger magic. Um convinced her that uh you would help her get her husband back if she helps you um get there, essentially. Um she's pretty strong, she's a werewolf, so uh you're about to see how strong werewolves are as you uh her her she made two requests, and if you complete these two requests, she will join you uh on this journey. The first one being rescuing Emil, uh which obviously will have to happen eventually. Uh the second one being kill and supplant uh Kiril Stoyanovich, who is the pack leader of this werewolf den. Fuck that beat. He is now arriving back at the den. You have been hiding in the trees right next to the entrance to the cave, to the den waiting his return. And you see him along with six other werewolves and nine regular wolves approach the werewolf den back from their hunt. Uh, and before we start, before we roll initiative, uh, I do have to clear up a thing that I I misspoke last time. I believe I said that the children were there captured to just be eaten, um, which was incorrect. They are there, uh, they capture these children, and Emile as a leader uh wishes for them all to be turned into werewolves so that the pack can expand and they can be safe from Strahd. Uh Kirill, however, has allied himself with Strahd and he is a bit more violent. He has them fight to the death with weapons, and the one that comes out on top get gets the honor of being turned into a werewolf. Jesus. So somehow worse? The children, yeah, not neither one very good. Uh, though a life as a werewolf in Barovia might be a safer one than just the life as a normal person. Who knows? Um, they seem to be uh they seem to think that uh as werewolves they are the chosen of mother night. Uh you saw that uh shrine that uh that Zulika was praying to, uh the the shrine of Mother Knight. Um so they they think that being a werewolf is a very high honor and something that uh comes with great respect and power. So and with great power comes great responsibility. Um you guys you guys uh Leo is readying an action for when they get within 30 feet, when Kirill specifically gets within 30 feet to cast his spell. Uh you wait in the shadows of the trees, your um your spell by by now has worn off, um, but your stealth check uh remains the same as you are in this deep forest. Um they walk past without noticing you, without smelling you, and are just within range. So after Leo's attack, I'm gonna have everyone roll initiative. We're gonna get into combat. Oh god.

Uh, and then 32 damage to the other werewolf that gets hit. Uh very hurt. Not quite bloody, but very hurt. These werewolves are pretty tough, but that 32 is a lot of damage. Um the two the two were the two regular wolves in the back row that get hit by this silver lance just a burst into uh blood and guts as they scatter across the rest of the forest. Kirill, however, gets uh with his strength uh pushing back against this silver lance, turns to you and growls.

He didn't got to do all that.

But on a crit, that's that's pretty crazy damage. Um where was I? Okay, so four slash attacks do 37 damage to Zulika. Uh they're gonna there's gonna be a bite and a slash and a bite and a slash at Liriel. Bite it's cocked. Does a 15 hit.
