Curse of Strahd - Episode 19 'Cleaning Up'

Thanks so much for joining us for episode 19 of our Curse of Strahd adventure. Last episode we began as the players left the ruins of Berez with their second seed from the Wizard of Wines after slaying Baba Lasaga. They were headed towards the Visani camp to check if Rictavio had indeed set his uh saber-toothed tiger on the Vistani camp. They arrived deep into the night to find a massive fire that once was the center tent at this Vistani camp. Uh the smell of blood uh very fragrant in the air as they found dozens of Vistani slain by this tiger mauled. Um, at the center of the camp, however, they found Strahd von Zarovic himself among this rubble and death uh clearly was a bit pissed off about uh his his buddies the Vistani being killed. The he had two of his vampire spawn minions with him, as well as some werewolves uh that surrounded you uh as you tried to get away on the wagon. Combat ensued. Luriel ran ahead, uh, and Strahd uh turning from mist back into himself, uh, grabbed her by the neck and tried with all of his might to charm her, trying to get her to give up this amulet that he once said was useless. But clearly it wasn't useless as she cast sunlight from it that uh hurt him and negated his healing properties. Um and among other things. He continued, uh, he did lay a couple of attacks into Lyriel, um, but didn't do quite as much damage. He was more really just focused on charming her, getting that amulet away from her and and retreating, but Lyriel overcame three or four wisdom saves with that elf advantage uncharmed and got away relatively unscathed in a face-to-face battle with Strahd himself. He ran away back to his castle after he realized that his minions and his werewolves were going to be killed very quickly. Um after that, you looted a bit, uh, found the brother of the man who attempted to assassinate you guys just that very morning, a very, very long day for the gang, um, and headed to Vallacchi, where you were greeted by a guard at the gate, this time a bit unfriendly uh compared to what you're used to, as a warrant has gone out for the three of you as associates of Rictavio, the man who uh was clearly the head of this attack of this Vistani camp right outside of the Volaki town. Uh precisely. Um so you were brought in, you bribed the guard not to um arrest you, but to bring you in uh to speak with the burgamaster, Baron. Um and you spoke with him. He, after much discussion about whether or not it was the right thing to do, or whether or not you were accomplices or responsible for this, or if it was a good thing to even have the Visani killed or not, um you decided to give up Rictavio's location uh in that tower outside of town and they let you go uh once they put you in the jail and let you go once um Rictavio was secured. And then you headed back uh to the inn when Leo met up with Vera for the second night in a row. Leo got some.

Meanwhile, uh Quickdraw, I think you've had enough bad things happen to you recently. Uh meanwhile, Quickdraw and Lurielle returned to Lurielle's room where they found Esmeralda D'Avenir sitting on Lyriel's bed. Esmelda, as Emily texted earlier today.

So we begin our session. Uh quick draw and Lyriel in the doorway. Leo on the other side of the wall, uh making a bit of noise.

The issue is that tower, as I'm sure you saw, was protected by very powerful magic.

The only place that we've found in all of Barovia that is safe from Strahd's scrying, and protected by very powerful wards, that if the guards if Rictavio had not foreseen the guards coming and stepped outside and given himself up for a rest, they would have exploded themselves on the door, and many more things, even if they had gotten into the door somehow. Oh, so we'd be under a lot more pressure if Rictavio did not predict your loose lipness. Like I've said, Ritavio can leave this jail whenever he wants. That is not the issue. Okay. You do not need to rescue him. He is a powerful, powerful man. He taught me everything I know just about. What we need to do is we need to get back to that tower, make sure that we get everything out of there, because I'm sure as quickly as these guards found out that Rictavio was stationed there, Strahd and his minions found out that Rictavio's stationed there, and they will be after his ass as well.

Well, we can be assured that none of the the Stani in the area will be looting the building. Um That is fair. So is it safe to assume that this can wait until morning? If they aren't aware of your connection or that you were there as well.

I would presume that the Baron is sending his men there to investigate as we speak, and I'm sure that word has gotten distraught, and he is sending his freaks of the night out to scout it as well. Great. So we will have exploded, destroyed guards, and Rictavio will have guards on his ass and the Burgamaster on his ass even harder than he does now. Well, we'll get rid of some of the guards. I don't want these guards to be killed. That is precisely my reasonings for coming here. If we if the guards if we wanted the guards to be killed, we would just allow them to uh try to open this door and send shockwaves through every bit of them. Well my my my worry is not that they will get in. The guards at least. I fear that Strahd, if he knows uh about this tower, will know how to get into it, though he cannot scry. And that is my concern. If he finds what we have hidden there and he destroys it, or I I you never know what's up his sleeve. What do you have hidden there? Well, you'll see quickly enough if you come help me offload it. I know you're exhausted, and I know it is late night. I know you've had a very long day, but so have I, and so has Rictavio, and now he is in jail, and I have had come had to come all the way down here to fetch you to get your wagon so that we have enough room to get everything loaded. This is quite a pickle here.

Why you see a couple of the chickens have gotten loose uh around uh around the place and are just kind of like plucking and uh plucking the ones that are awake at this hour. Um and you go in and the stench of that black icker uh barrel that you saw uh before is has grown disgusting. Um all of the ingredients and the hundred croaking toad barrel um is still croaking loudly. Uh they survived, um it's only been a few days. There's they're like cockroaches. But they have not been taken care of. Um it is a disgusting sight to be sure to be sure. Uh but you guys uh start to bring everything in, uh work your way up to the second floor and find the three dead night hags crispy is um hardly bearable.
