When the life you planned don't go according to plan. What do you do when the relationships, the dreams, the corporate connection, the future you imagined suddenly started falling apart? Most people think the hardest part is the event itself. Trust me, it isn't. The hardest part is what happens in your mind afterwards. Today I want to talk about something we don't discuss enough, especially black men, and more especially to the husbands and fathers. Happy Father's Day. Today I want to talk about something that we don't discuss enough: mental health, therapy, healing, learning how to move forward when the world is pushing you backward. This topic is very personal to me because I've made a huge decision in my life. Two years ago, sitting in this exact same spot, decided to go to therapy. I am proud to say that I've been going to therapy every single month for the last two years. I know it don't mean a lot to some, but to me, that was a pivotal moment in my life. But enough about me. We're here to talk about you. Let's get into segment number one. Everybody carries something. One thing I've learned is that everyone is fighting a battle that you cannot see. Some people are struggling financially, some people are struggling in their marriages, some are grieving, some are lonely. And I know you can relate to this one. We smile through it all. We smile every day, carrying pain no one knows about. When life gets hard, most of us isolate, especially me. I'm low-key still off the grid. We stop talking, we stop asking for help. We convince ourselves that we can carry the weight of the world. And that's not what being a strong man is. Strength isn't carrying everything alone, is having the courage to ask for help. Moving into section number two. Why I believe in therapy. People think therapy is for broken people. Trust me, it's not. Therapy is for people who want to heal, who know how they would react in certain situations. But it is for the people who want to stop repeating the same patterns. Don't let this world put you in a cage. Therapy has helped me learn something powerful. You can experience pain without becoming your pain. You can go through disappointment without becoming bitter. You can lose something important without losing yourself. The goal isn't to avoid suffering, it's to grow through it. Segment number three, faith and healing can grow together. For me personally, healing wasn't just about therapy. It's about my personal relationship with God. I swear, the moment I went to therapy and started coupling that with my faith and just letting go and letting God, just watch what happens. When people try to pull the old you out of you, and you just be still, literally be still through the storms, the hurricanes, the typhoons, fallout, through it all, especially when you're at your lowest. You lean on your faith. Resident Evil. Some people think therapy and faith are opposites. I don't. I believe God can work through prayer, community, counselors, and mentors. The stronger my faith became, the less I was focused on what I lost, and the more I was focusing on who I was becoming and still becoming. Section number four: your pain might be preparing you. I know there's someone watching who thinks that their life is over right now. Maybe your relationships are struggling. Maybe your finances are a mess. Maybe you're overwhelmed and exhausted. Maybe you're questioning everything. Just because a chapter ends in your life doesn't mean your story's over. Some of the greatest seasons in your life will happen after the worst moments of your life. Pain and purgatory is a terrible place to live. It is also an incredible place to learn. Don't miss the lesson. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, it is time for the toasty tip of the day. When you feel like the world is against you, just remember one thing: you have a purpose. God got you and your good old Uncle E. I'm an unknown. I'm 43 years old. That hurt to say. If you feel like you have to get your feelings out and you don't want to go to therapy or see a counselor or anybody like that, at least journal. Okay. Get you a 90-day planner. Start journaling and start making checklists. I am gonna give you an affirmation. My affirmation for today. And this goes for you as well. I release what no longer chooses me. I am not defined by rejection, setbacks, or closed doors. My future is bigger than my past. My purpose is greater than my pain. And I am walking confidently into the next chapter. God is directing my steps, and I am ready for everything he has prepared for me. And you should be ready for what he has prepared for you.
