This isn’t a business episode. This is a life episode.

I’m talking about what ketamine treatment actually did for my brain, why so many of us are running like hamsters on a wheel without realizing it, and the 1 concept I think could change everything for you: margin. Not financial margin. Life margin.

If you’re a Type A who keeps going until the rubber band snaps — I know you.

Go listen to the Goals episode and For Women Only if this resonates. And if it helped you, please leave me a 5-star review — it genuinely means everything.

Hey there guys. I hope everybody is doing well. I am in my backyard in Texas, uh, where we live, and uh just a little west of Houston and Katie is where I live. Um I'm in my backyard, and uh it's a beautiful morning, and I was just sitting here thinking about some of the things that are going on with my life and how I just wanted to share some of those with you. It's not necessarily anything, you know, amazing from uh whatnot, insights for whatnot, insights for business. It's more about living and some suggestions and ideas and thinking about what matters, etc., etc. So if you're not here for anything other than business, then this isn't a good episode for you. Um, if you are interested in my insights and what I'm learning and what I'm dealing with, then buckle in, sit tight. Uh, I'm just gonna ramble on. Uh, and here we go. Okay, so some of you might know this and and uh some don't because you might not have been in my shows where I talked about it. But um number one, uh my husband and I have been talking about getting a divorce, and uh we've been married 30 years, been together 32, and uh so it's a big, big deal. We have six kids and we've built a long life together, and uh, we're going through a lot, and so that's a big issue. Um that's been going on, and basically I went to a friend of mine to ask her. She's been divorced, to ask her what she thought about different things, lawyers, you know, money, what I should want, where I should go, how I should process, all of that. And um, she was very wonderful and very sweet. She actually says that I saved her life because back in the day um I had cancer and I left chemotherapy after about six months, and um I went holistic and it's a whole story, but long story short, she credits me to saving her and getting her cancer free as well. Um, and that was about 15 years ago, the first time I had cancer. I've had it twice now. Um, anyways, she told me something that she hasn't told anybody else, and I can tell you because you don't know who she is. Um, but she told me about a retreat place that she had gone to in Austin and she did ketamine treatment. And I didn't even know what ketamine was. Um, I had heard about it because that's what um oh, the guy from Friends, what's his name? Perry, Matthew Perry. He died from an overdose of ketamine. I guess somebody had prescribed it to him at his house and he OD'd on it. And I think that the doctor was found guilty of it or something. I don't remember all the ins and outs, but that's all I knew about it. But she said she had high anxiety levels to the point where she couldn't work anymore, she couldn't drive, she was just totally stressed out. It sounded a lot like um what I had gone through in the day, CPTSD, about three and a half years ago. Um, I was diagnosed with CPTSD. My nervous system was just shot. And um, yeah, it lasted about seven and a half to ten months. You know, that's when I really started getting better. I'm not on any kind of medication. I don't see a psychiatrist or a therapist or a psychologist, any of that. Um, and I'm doing just fine as far as that goes. But as she was describing how her nervous system was and how anxious and stressed she was uh six years after her marriage ended, um, she was telling me about how she went to this place. And she said that her anxiety level was like a 10 to a 12. And I said, Well, where is it now? And she said it was um a zero. She didn't have any anxiety or stress anymore. She said that going to this place had completely and utterly changed her mentality in life. Um, what I've found out since is that it's kind of uh sometimes for people, you have to kind of go back and or get away again to reset your nervous system and go through this again. Um, but anyways, long story short, I went to my husband and I said, there's a lot going on, but I want to go to this place. I want to put it on the credit card. This is very important. Let me do this. So, long story short, um, I left for 16 days. Um, I hadn't talked to my husband in 17 just because of our schedules. And I went to Austin and I didn't talk to any family or friends or anybody the whole time I was there. I did five ketamine treatments, and it really has shifted so much in my life. My thought patterns, my anxiety, my stress levels, what's important, what isn't important, where I'm going, what I'm doing, like all of that. Um, and so I'm in a much better place, I think, just legitimately in all areas than before I went. And so I am extremely uh grateful and happy about that. I got in uh last Friday, today's Thursday. I got in last Friday night at around 5:30, and nobody was at my house. They were all running around doing things. Uh my husband came home, and we never really, even to this point, have really sat down and talked about everything I learned and what I processed and all of that. Um and and we just it's just our schedule, his life, his work, and just the way things are going. I gave him some basics when we went out to eat one night, um, one afternoon, whatever, but that's it. And so eventually I'm gonna have to sit down and talk to him. But I did write it down and um it was such a long list. I think it was like six pages uh of notes that I had put on my phone and a lot of like learning moments where I just was like, oh, oh my gosh, yeah, this makes sense. I need to change this thinking, or um, you know, I need to reframe this, or that was stinking thinking, or I need to, you know, create this habit or change that scenario, et cetera, et cetera. And uh a lot of changes. And so when I realized it was like six pages and it was really pretty good wisdom and understanding that I think I've got, not just from ketamine, like all my stories and notes and things that I've had on my phone and uh some podcasts and just different things, I decided to start writing a book. And I'm on chapter four right now. Um, lots of edits to still go through, but I think it's gonna be around 10 to 12 chapters. I don't know what I'm gonna title it, but it's about my life going through this process, things I've learned, what I've overcome, what I'm still dealing with, etc. It obviously comes from a Christian worldview because I'm a Christian, um, and that has a lot to do with it. So um, yeah, that's kind of what I'm going through and dealing with. Um, also, um, I had something called leaky veins in, and uh, I have something called benopia. It's literally where I bend over and I can't breathe. My the blood's not pumping up to my heart as fast as it should because my veins had I've had six kids, and my veins were not strong enough and tight enough to push the blood up to my heart the way they should. So I've had three procedures ongoing. I did the first one on Tuesday. I go back next week to do the second one, and then there's a third one coming up. Um, so I haven't been able to shower and uh because I can't get my leg wet. And so I've had to keep pushing my schedule back. I thought I was only going to be off whatnot for you know two weeks, then it was three weeks, now it's like four weeks, and part of me is feeling the financial strain of that too, of not bringing any money in for a month. It that is starting to hit home, and I'm like, yeah, I need to sell stuff, I need to make money, and I need to get back into the swing of things. So I'm scheduled to go on tomorrow, and um, I'm hopeful that I can do that, that I feel okay. Um, I wasn't supposed to put too much stress on my leg. And uh, so we'll see if I go on tomorrow or Saturday or push it back. I am trying to do what I've told you guys to do time and time again, which is give yourself grace. And I really feel like these conversations that I have are mostly aimed at people like myself that are type A's that are kick ass and go in and just work it, work it, work it. And I tell people all the time that you have to have balance in life. Uh, I've got two episodes that for women that are just hearing maybe this episode for the first time, and out of all the other podcasts, I think this is like the 94th episode. Um, there are two podcasts in the very beginning. One is called Goals, and another one is called For Women Only. I highly suggest if this kind of conversation is resonating with you, that you go and listen to those two episodes. Um, I'm just very honest and upfront, and I wear my feelings and emotions on my sleeve a bit. And uh I really don't take too much stock on whether you agree or disagree or like or don't like because I'm 55 and I know I'm not gonna please everybody all of the time. I'm just gonna show up and do the best I can. But the reason I do this podcast and I give this uh advice for free is because I want to make the world a better place. I am sure I can make a ton of PDFs and I could write a book and I could sell and I can I could do all that. And maybe in the future I will. But right now I go on to whatnot and I see all these community pages where people are selling, you know, so many things for so much money. And I just think the advice is out there, the wisdom's out there. You can go watch YouTube videos, you can listen to podcasts. There is a lot of information you don't need to pay for. And um, so I would highly suggest that you look up that before you go and drop a bunch of money somewhere. And I get that some people need money, and that's the reason they're doing that. Um, but I'm just saying if money is an issue, just realize there are free options out there as well. Um, and sometimes, you know, you might think that what you pay for is is worth more than that, you know. Um, we used to get to go to the museum for free because I was a principal, and um, you could go on free school days or free days, and um, we chose not to do it then because it was such chaos. So sometimes it's better to pay than go to you know certain free days. Um, anyhow, or who um one of the things I really wanted to talk about and and bring up is the idea of margin. Um, when I was at the retreat, I had countless conversations and uh lots of insight and suggestions that I gave to other people and people would give to me, and just a lot of, you know, thinking things through and processing. And one of the things I told somebody there was that he needed to have more margin in his life. And when he thought of margin, he was only thinking financially. And I said, No, in your life, your actual life, because what he was doing is what I used to do and go from appointment to appointment to office visit to, you know, this client, that person, this go, go, go, go, um, this meeting, whatever. And it was just overwhelming and stressful, but I did it because that's what I thought I had to do, because that was part of my job, you know, or whatever. And I didn't build in any margin in my life or my scenarios of the day, you know, my schedule. And what I'm suggesting and and hoping that you guys will take into consideration is just how important that is, not only for, you know, your physical and mental health, but your spiritual health and just your sleeping patterns and everything. I think that a lot of us just are like, oh, we've got to get on. We've got to have a show. Okay, now we've got to pack up everything. We've got to get it to the post office. Okay, now I've got to set up for the next show. Let me go, go, go, go. And I see a lot of people on this app and and and other apps or whatever that are doing this work from home thing where you're supposed to be enjoying the fact that you work from home and the flexibility and the freedom that you have, but you're not managing it any better than you would if you were going to work, you know, an eight to five job and you're not reaping the benefits of it as much. Um, maybe you don't have to be stuck in traffic, you know, going to your nine to five job or whatever. Um, you know, you don't have to wear the same office clothes, what whatever the scenario is. You're trading, right? You're you're swapping out one lifestyle for another where you can work from home. And some of you aren't even there. Some of you are working a nine to five job, and then you're coming home and you're adding this on top of it. And it's just go, go, go, balls to the walls. And I I see it happening. I talk to clients, I talk to my friends, and I just I see the burnout. I see how, like from an overview perspective, if you were going to die today and this was your last day on earth, how are you spending it? Are you spending any time reflecting on your life, being grateful for the things you have, enjoying the weather outside, taking your dogs for a walk, you know, uh, just chilling out, you know, reading a good book, writing in a journal, just something for yourself instead of go, go, go, do, do, do, more, more, more, get, get, get, bye, bye, buy, sell, sell, sell. It just, it just seems like we're almost, you know, hamsters on the wheel, if you will. Um, go, go, go. And I think one of the things I've definitely realized is this, this, you know, 17 days off basically that I had really gave me time and perspective to think about that. I I had the ketamine treatment, which at the at the place, they basically call it miracle grow for your brain. And it helps your brain not to loop over the same patterns and be expanding into different options and see things differently, which I can totally tell you has happened. And I highly suggest if anybody is in a really bad place and you've tried counseling and you've tried therapy or you've struggled with CPTSD, or you're going through something, you know, really important um and and difficult, um, it's something for you to consider. Um, I definitely think that that time away has helped me to reflect and think about what's important in life and all these life lessons that I'm gonna be putting in the book. Um, but I just I I just wanted to come on here real quickly and just tell you a few things. Number one, uh, you're enough. You don't have to do all this running around and going here and going there to prove yourself or your worth or to be somebody that you think you should be. You're enough just the way you are today. You've got the right information, you've gone through the difficult experiences, you've got your life exactly where you're supposed to be, where God has placed you. You're enough and where you are is okay. It might not be perfect, you might have struggles, you might have financial problems, you might have marriage or kid problems, whatever. You can just rest and knowing that you're enough and that where you're at is where you're supposed to be. And it's okay to grow at your own speed and your own time and your own pacing. Everything doesn't have to be done today. It doesn't have to be perfect today. It's okay to give yourself grace, it's okay to slow down, it's okay to take time for yourself. And in fact, it's better than okay. It will help you. Um, there's been a study recently, and I can't find it anywhere, but basically it said something to the effect that people who take naps on a regular basis, even you know, 15, 20 minutes to reset their brains and their body and give themselves rest, live longer than people who don't. I think it was up to six years or something. I'd have to go look up the study. But the fact is we need to take time. You need to take break. And if you don't have enough time, if you don't have enough margin built into your schedule in your life, it's going to affect you. It just it's it's going and going and going. And I am in the book that I'm writing, I talk about it like a rubber band being pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled until finally that rubber band just snaps. And that's what happened to me three and a half years ago when I had CPTSD. You know, and I I don't want that to happen to you guys. I don't know who's listening to this, but even if I can just help one person um to to stop and to think about these things, it's it's important. And I feel like, you know, we all have different skills and talents and gifts and uh our own personality and way of living this life and and interpreting this life and helping others. And this podcast and what I'm doing is my way to do that. Um, and I'm trying my best. And like I said, I might not be everybody's cup of tea and I might not help everybody here. Um, but if you are listening to this and it has helped you, I'd really appreciate for you to go give me a five-star review and um rating, and that would be just wonderful. You can go to the episode down at the bottom and find it. Also, um, you could also click on my link tree and it'll take you to my shop that's linked to Amazon if you want to see any of the things I suggest. If you're new, there's a ton of episodes on all kinds of things in here. Some of them are more positive than others, some are more how-to, some of them are more opinionated. There's lots of different kinds of episodes here. It's not just this kind. Um, and so I did that purposely uh because I I like that. I like the variety and um I like mixing it up. Also, I've got some interviews upcoming, um, but I am trying to figure out how to manage my schedule and my life and start thinking about what I want to do. How much time do I want to invest and whatnot? How many days per week am I doing it? What am I gonna continue to sell? Uh, now that things are gonna be changing September 1st, and we're gonna also be doing customer service. Uh, I need to think about that and what that looks like. Um, just really, you know, pondering things. And I suggest that you do the same. I think I suggest that you think about are you happy with your days? Are you happy with what you're doing? Is there aware awareness on what's going on in your life? And I think that's the key factor. When you're not aware, you you can't fix things, you can't make things better. But if you go, okay, today this show went really well because I did this, this, and this, or today the show went bad because I forgot to do this, this, and this. And you, I've said this before, you know, you you're the number one employee of the month, you know, because you are the star employee working from home, right? But you also need to give yourself employee evaluations. And, you know, in that comes your mental health, your spiritual, your physical, your mental. If you don't have time to take a walk, if you don't have time to say a prayer, if you don't have time to take a shower and you know, whatever it is, you're probably not putting enough margin in your life. So I'm gonna leave you with that. Something to think about. And uh I hope that this helps at least one person. And you guys can always reach out to me, just go down to the show notes. There's a little place you can click, you can message me um independently. Plus, my phone number is in all of this as well. It's in my profile, Carrie Kennedy on whatnot. Like I said, I have a show tomorrow, or I might have to push it back till Saturday. But either way, you guys can go bookmark it. It's under the name Carrie Kennedy. It's K A R R I Kennedy, K E N N E D Y on Whatnot. And with that, I hope you guys have a wonderful and great day, and we'll see you later. Bye bye.
