Local Pickup - Episode 95

My quickest episode ever I should also point out the fact that you could meet the person at the post office but I don’t think that’s a good idea. The post office already has lines and parking issues and it’s a pain in the ass so while I didn’t put that in the episode I think that you should find another place to have an exchange.

Hey there guys. I hope everybody's doing really well. This is going to be a super short podcast, probably the shortest one ever. And the reason is because I was just on a show, watching a show on whatnot, and a girl said, Do you have it set for local pickup? And the girl said, No, but I hope to get a P.O. box so that I can do that. And I thought, okay, that doesn't make any sense. First of all, it's supposed to be an actual address people can pick up stuff from. So why would you do that? And then I was like, that isn't even like that doesn't even make sense. I'm still like trying to wrap my mind around it because a P.O. box is a box inside of a post office. If you're selling like a giant, you know, vase or something, how are you going to get that in? And how is the person going to have the key to get it out? The post office isn't going to hold your stuff for them, waiting for somebody to pick it up. That doesn't make sense in the slightest bit, not even a little. But some lady said, Oh, that's how I have mine listed. And I'm thinking, nobody's ever come to the post office to pick up something from a P.O. box. Now, you could list it as local pickup and you could put whatever you want because whatnot's not saying 100% that you can't list it as a P.O. box. But let's get this clear, guys. It's impossible. That's not an actual factual thing that you can do. What you could do is in your messages, you could say, we'll meet at Denny's on, you know, I-45 or something like that, with the directions, or you could put your phone number in there and you could say something to the extent of text me and we'll find a meeting place, which seems like a big pain in the butt. I personally don't understand, and this is just me, you guys can totally disagree. Um, I put my address on there and it's the greatest thing ever. Local pickup has been amazing for me. Not only have I had a chance to meet some wonderful um buyers of mine, um, we've actually stopped and had coffee. Heck, we've gone out. Um, so that's been a nice thing. But the other thing is if you you sell a lot, like there's this one lady who has bought so much stuff from me. She had boxes and boxes, and I could literally carry it from show after show after show. And she lived kind of far away, so she would have her daughter come pick it all the stuff up. And that way she would buy more from me because I could hold it for her until her daughter came. And I didn't have to pack it all up with the, you know, I mean, we put it nicely in a box, but as long as she wasn't driving too far, it was okay. We never had a problem with anything getting broken or anything. But here's my thing, guys. Just so you know, pretty much anybody can get your address. I won't sit here and tell you all the different ways and how it happens, but if somebody wants your address, they can get it. Um, also, anybody who walks by your house or your apartment or wherever could figure out that yes, you live there. I mean, if somebody wanted to case my house or case your house or apartment or cabin or whatever, they could do that. Um, so I guess if you're really scared, if you're really hesitant, if you're really worried, don't do local pickup at all. But the idea that you're gonna put a PO box there and somebody's gonna go into the post office and get it from the guy at the post office, that's just not happening. That's misinformation. The post office is not going to hold your stuff. You're not gonna be able to take that backpack or that package to the clothing thing and have them hold it for you until you know Cindy Lou comes and picks it up. So basically, in a nutshell, to wrap this all up, number one, local pickup rocks. If you give the address and they come and pick it up, then it's amazing. It saves you a lot of time and energy, and people love it also because they're not having to pay that extra money for shipping. It is a win-win through and through. Totally. If you have a house that's acceptable, accessible, that people can get up to, you know, do it. The other thing I'm just going to throw out here is a side caveat note. I really fear that so many people in life are fearful and scared and worried. It's one thing, you know, to be, you know, like, oh, I need to lock my door, or I, you know, when I go away for vacation, that kind of thing. I get that. Okay. If you live in New York, probably more scary than other places. I get that. Some neighborhoods are on one side of the tracks and some are on the other. I get that. But I think when you're so fearful that you're worried about, you know, somebody coming to your house to get something off your front door or whatever, that you have to put a P.O. box. It just honestly concerns me as a human being in the world that we live in. And maybe I'm just being naive and crazy, but I just think that maybe you guys should take a chance. It's just me putting it out there into the world, into the universe, that maybe you take a chance. Now, if any of you, I'm not even gonna go that way. I won't even say where I was gonna go. But the point is here, do not put your P.O. box. If you want to put an address of a place that you want to meet people at, like the Denny's or the IHOP or the Waffle House or the Target store, whatever, then put in that address. Because people might not do local pickup if they see your address as a P.O. box, because we all know you can't pick up from a P.O. box. So that is what I think about local pickup and P.O. boxes.
