Exterior doors are more than just entry points—they're critical components for security, energy efficiency, and water management. This episode covers hinged doors, sliding (patio) doors, and bulkhead doors.

For hinged doors, we explore:
- Door types, styles, and materials (wood, metal, fiberglass, vinyl, composite)
- Door and frame parts (rails, stiles, mullions, jambs, sill, threshold)
- Proper installation in framed rough openings
- Critical flashing requirements (often improperly installed even in new homes)
- Locks, hardware, and accessories including weather stripping

Sliding door coverage includes installation requirements, proper track and roller maintenance, and the importance of drain holes in the lower track.

Safety issues receive special attention:
- Egress door requirements (36" wide, 80" tall, accessible from all parts of house)
- Landing requirements on both sides of doors
- Double-cylinder deadbolt restrictions on egress doors
- Proper door-to-step relationships

Common defects include improper lock operation, doors sticking or rubbing, light showing around edges, water infiltration evidence, and unsupported thresholds. We reference IRC 2018 standards and manufacturer installation requirements throughout.
