Good luck Duck, "If you bring the duck, you bring the luck"
Well, good morning. It's the 11th of May 2026, and straight from the Highley Caffeine studio, this is Real SWAT Talk with yours truly, Willie B. So let's talk about strategy. When you go to the casino, do you have some kind of strategy in mind? And I'm not talking about just the good luck duck. While that is a viable, good strategy, you need something else a little more substantial. So when you go walk in the casino, I can tell you that I'm guilty of this a lot of times. I walk in, got my bankroll, and I'm more thinking about what games I'm going to play and what games I'm not going to play. And as in i.e. uh the pigs with hard hats or Buffalo Lake. But I'll have you know, I won't even make it halfway to the casino, and I find myself sitting at Buffalo Link. I don't know how it happens. I just migrate there and sit down. I and then half my bankroll is gone. But the strategy that we need to talk about, because we know there's the RNG, and we don't really have any way to fight that. But we do have some options at our disposal. For instance, we could find games that have a higher RTP, ideally 96% or higher. So if we go into the game rules and find those games that are higher in RTP, and while I know, yes, that that means over the life of the machine, but you know what? If it's 1% higher, I'll take it because I'll take any advantage that I can get. And then we want to find games that have low volatility. Now, I can promise you, any game that has big progressives that has the word link in the name are not going to be low volatility. Trust me on that one. So if we find the higher RTP and low volatility, these games provide frequent small wins that help sustain your balance while you grind through the required turnover. So here's the thing: when you win a bonus on a machine, and I I have to remember that these words I'm about to say because I have to regurgitate them back to myself when I walk in the casino because I immediately get amnesia and forget that I have even any common sense at all. But when you are playing a game and you get a bonus and it is a decent win, fine, do two or three backup spins, cash out, and either walk away or test the machine with another $20 and just see if it hits in a couple of spins. If not, walk away from that machine, go find something else. And that kind of hinges on that five spin method that everybody talks about. You can go on YouTube and you can put in the search five spin method, and you'll get five billion videos showing the everybody's version of the five spin method. While this is a decent method, it's not foolproof, just like any other uh strategy, it's not foolproof, but it could help you find a machine that might be a little more forgiving and keep you in the game longer. So when you cash out those bonuses after you hit a bonus, you're not gonna feed that money that you just won. You're not gonna feed it right back to that machine. And I see that so many times where somebody will win. I've even seen them win two thousand dollars and increase their bet and then sit there and play that entire two thousand dollars right back into that same machine and then have no wins to show for it. It's a good, it's it's it's the way our slot brain is wired. It's like because I do the same thing on on Buffalo Link. If I am playing and I'm playing uh say a two cent denom and I'm playing four dollars or six dollars, and I hit a win that's we'll say $150 for easy math, that just gave me extra money to of the casino money to go and up my bet, or to go to another denom and up my bet. And then I wind up and most of the time have found that I lose that where I should have cashed out, kept that separate. Now, I as a slot player, I'm gonna say two things, and you can hold them against me if you want to. When you have a win of let's say $100 or more, it feels like it may not be true, but it feels like that that machine says, You've got some of my money. I need that back. Uh, I just was giving it to you to hold for a minute, and so it really seems that way. So I've gotten to where I'm getting better at cashing those wins out, putting them in a separate pocket, and waiting till my bankroll is depleted, then pulling those back out and going and cashing them, not going off the ticket, go and cash them and go back with cash. I just I honestly feel that those machines can read that ticket and go, oh yeah, I remember the pigs gave this $120 to you. We're gonna take it back and send it over to them. I know that's probably not true, but it definitely feels like it. And I'm sure that I am not the only one. So, you know, there's that. I can tell you when you're trying to make your bankroll last, any machine that you see with big progressives, that's what you always want to remember. Bigger reward, but bigger risk. So always, always remember that. I don't know how ever I would love to hear for some other people how you feel about free play. Now, I've heard both ends of the spectrum here. I've heard people say, Oh, I had $50 in free play and I won $2,000 and I left the casino. It always seems like, and maybe this is just my dumb luck. I don't know. I that's why I said I want to hear from others. I have won some money off of free play, but have you ever won anything big off of free play? Again, I know this probably isn't true, but it almost seems as if the machine recognizes free play, and it's like, yeah, this is fake money, so I'm gonna give you fake wins. And so there, you know, you have that. So, but uh like I said, it may not be true, but it definitely seems that way. Here's another thing that I've I've seen tossed around, and somebody sent this to me the other day and said, Hey, what is your opinion of the buy a bonus feature? If I'm up, and I mean really up, uh, if I went in with a $500 bankroll and I'm sitting at let's say $2,500, because I'm I've hit a couple good bonuses and I'm really solid for the night. I cannot help myself but to walk by the three little pigs and because they're one of the most famous ones in there, or the other one, the dragon coin, where there's three uh coins, red, green, and yellow, I think, and have the buy a bonus option. And I cannot help but try my luck at getting one of those buy a bonus features. And I usually the most I will do is fifty dollars. Now, hear me when I say I've rarely hit above whatever I paid for the bonus. If I spend fifty dollars, I'm gonna win back thirty, thirty-five dollars most of the time. There's been a couple of rare instances where I won a little over what I spent. I watched a lot of the big slot influencers online, and some of them they'll spend two or three thousand dollars on buy a bonus, and then it pays them eight hundred dollars, and I'm just like, oh, I would be heartbroken, mad, and devastated all at the same time. It would be like somebody popped my balloon and stole my cotton candy. You know, I I don't know. It's they're fun to do because you go straight into the bonus. So sometimes if you're having a good night, you're like, ah, you know what? I'm gonna test test the waters here, and so I'll put the good luck duck on the machine and buy the bonus. And I usually get the one green coin or the one green pig, and that's the worst one to get. And I'm like, okay, well, it's all downhill from here, and then I'll walk away. I think, well, I spent 50, I'm walking away with 30. It was basically a $20 I lost. So I usually will chalk it up to okay, so I lost $20. So I'll go on and find another machine and try to win that $20 back. And nine times out of 10, that doesn't happen, but hey, I digress. So there is that. So there is this thing called calculating expected value. Sophisticated bonus hunters calculate the expected value of a bonus by considering the bonus amount, wagering requirement, and the house edge of the games allowed. Now, this is where it gets really technical, and there are people out there who are just mathematical geniuses, and they actually there's a few people that make their living playing slots, and it's because they understand that advanced math on figuring those things out. But I assure you, they know the game rules inside and out of every game that they play, and they know how to take that to their advantage as much as they can. So always remember that. But uh don't forget that you have, regardless of what you do, regardless of what strategy that you use, don't forget you do have to gamble responsibly. And you do have to take the duck with you because if you bring the duck, you bring the luck. I'll see you again next week, right here behind this big old mic. Don't forget to caffeinate and conquer. I'll see you next week. Bye bye.
