Should beginners start a YouTube channel? Learn how YouTube helps build trust, create long term visibility, and support your digital marketing strategy without adding overwhelm.

One of the most common questions beginners ask is, "Should I start a YouTube channel?"

With so many platforms available today, it can feel overwhelming trying to decide where to spend your time and energy. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, podcasts, blogs, and now YouTube. How do you know what is worth your attention?

In this episode, we break down YouTube from a beginner's perspective and explore why it remains one of the most powerful platforms for building long term visibility online.

Unlike many social media platforms where content can disappear within hours or days, YouTube videos can continue working for you months or even years after you publish them. This makes YouTube a powerful asset for entrepreneurs, content creators, coaches, and digital marketers who want to build a sustainable online presence.

Inside this episode, you'll learn:

• Why YouTube is often called the world's second largest search engine

• How YouTube content continues generating views long after it is published

• Why video helps build trust faster than many other forms of content

• The differences between YouTube and platforms like Instagram and TikTok

• When it makes sense for beginners to start a YouTube channel

• Why you do not need to be on YouTube immediately to build a successful online business

• How YouTube fits into a simple digital marketing strategy

• The benefits and challenges of using YouTube as a beginner

If you've been wondering whether YouTube should be part of your business journey, this episode will help you understand what the platform does well, who it is best suited for, and how to approach it without feeling pressured to do everything at once.

Remember, successful businesses are not built by being everywhere. They are built by making intentional decisions and focusing on what matters most right now.

Welcome to the Grow with Laura podcast, where we talk about building income online as a beginner without confusion, pressure, or pretending to have it all figured out. My name is Laura, and this podcast is for digital beginners who are curious about online business, digital marketing, and using social media as a tool to build something meaningful. If you are learning, exploring, or trying to find your footing in this space, you are in the right place. In the last episode, we talked about how to start a podcast and the tools you can use to set it up simply. Today we are going to talk about YouTube, and I want to be very honest with you from the start. This is a platform I have not fully stepped into yet, but I still understand how powerful it is, and that is exactly what we are going to talk about today. So let's get right into it. Okay, so let's start with this. You do not have to be fully active on a platform to understand its value. That's the truth. My hands are up. I'm not on YouTube yet, but I know how important YouTube is. You always hear everybody, oh, just YouTube it. My kids always say, ask them a question, do you know how da da da YouTube, right? So we know how important YouTube is. And I think that is important because a lot of people feel like they need to master something before they even talk about it. No, I'm not on YouTube, but I'm talking about it. But when you are building, especially as a beginner, it is just as important to understand what is coming next, even if you are not there yet, because you want to start working towards it. Right? So let's talk about YouTube from that perspective. Sometimes even longer. You know, think about it, right? Like you can watch a movie on YouTube. I mean, there's so many things, how to do things on YouTube, D DIY on YouTube, you know, and that creates a different type of connection. So when someone watches a YouTube video, they are choosing to spend time with you, which is so true, right? Like if I'm going to, let's say I wanted to learn about uh how to start a podcast, for example, right? And I was like, okay, I'm gonna go YouTube it, right? In my head, I'm thinking, okay, this is not a 30 seconds video or a 10 seconds video. This is some platform that I have to really take time, invest the time because it's going to be long content, it's going to be a lot of information. So, like I said, when someone watches a YouTube video, they are choosing to spend time with you. They are not just scrolling past you, they are sitting with your ideas, your explanations, your way of thinking, and that builds trust in a much deeper way. That's why I can't wait to get onto YouTube, but one step at a time, right? Now, here is what YouTube, you know, what makes YouTube even more powerful. It is searchable, which means your content does not disappear after you post it, right? It stays on. Um, I'll share a joke with you with my kids when they were younger. I remember my son, because you know, I didn't want them at that age going on the internet and doing all kinds of things or exposing themselves to all kinds of things. So I said something like, uh, you know, once you post something, it's final, right? You can't take it off, you can't change it, you can't delete it, it's done. And so that was my way of like, you know, protecting them until they were at an age when they would understand what they were doing on, you know, on on the internet, right? But it was so funny. A couple of years ago, my son was like, Oh my god, mom, you put the fear into us, like we didn't want to even go on there to do anything. I was like, Yeah, because I just felt uh, you know, you they were still much they were babies, still much, much younger, and I wanted you to be careful there because to my point, those things are searchable, right? Like you put something on there, I mean, 10 years later you can come back and it's still right there, right? So it's very important that uh we understand that. I mean, now obviously it works to our advantage because we're putting out good information there, and um, even if our kids see it, it's good, good, good information, right? So, I mean, so like I said, it is searchable, uh, which means that your content does not just disappear after you post it, right? A video you create today can still be found weeks, months, even years later, right? You see something six Y, 12Y, they've been there for so long, right? So you are not just creating content for today, you are building a library, right? And that is a different mindset. So instead of thinking, what can I post today? You start thinking, what can I create that will still be useful later on in five years, in two years, in six months, in whatever, right? Now, let's bring this back to reality because this is where a lot of beginners get overwhelmed. YouTube does not require more intention, it requires more planning, it requires you to sit down and actually think through what you are going to say. It is not as fast as TikTok, it is not as casual as Instagram, and because of that, it may not be your starting point, and that's okay, right? You do not need to start with everything, you need to start with something you can manage. But here's what I want uh you to take away, okay? Even if you are not using YouTube right now, you understand what it offers, you understand that it is there for long-term visibility, you understand that it is there for deeper connection. And when you are ready, you step into it with clarity, not confusion, not pressure, but intention. So instead of feeling like you are missing out, I want you to feel prepared. Just like me. I don't feel like I'm missing out. I'm preparing. You know, I'm going to pivot at some point to YouTube. Because everything you are building right now, your message, your structure, your confidence will transfer over. Let me say that again. Because everything you are building right now, your message, your structure, your confidence, it will transfer over. So you are not starting from zero later, you are building towards it. Okay. Now, in the next episode, we're going to talk about another uh platform, LinkedIn, and whether it actually makes sense for you as a beginner or if it is something you can leave for later. Thank you for spending so much time uh with me. If this episode resonated with you, I would love to stay connected. Don't forget to hit subscribe and leave a review.
