Every agent claims they go above and beyond. But what actually makes people choose you? Hint — it's not your script. It's you. Here's why being unapologetically yourself might be the best business move you make.
Good morning, everybody, and happy Wednesday. This is Robin, and Lynn and I are always so grateful that you choose the 6 a.m. call as part of your morning routine. It helps set your mindset, your business, and ultimately yourself for success before the rest of the world has even had the first cup of coffee. Today's conversation is about being unapologetically you. There is so much sameness in this industry. Same captions, same scripts, same bios, same, I'm your local expert. I go above and beyond, and I love referrals. The truth is, that's not what makes people remember you. What makes people remember you is your difference. The world does not need another copy and paste realtor. It needs people willing to lead with who they actually are. Your former career, your weird quirks, your obsession with sports, Disney or coffee, gardening, fitness, music, design, whatever that is. Your story, your struggles, your comeback season, your family dynamics, your personality, the things you thought made you too much or too different. This is the secret sauce. This is gold, my friends. There is no perfect script. There is no magical Instagram formula. The magical secret sauce is you being fully you. And the crazy thing is, the moment you stop trying to sound like everybody else, the pressure starts to come off, the stress starts to lift because you're no longer performing, you're no longer chasing someone else's blueprint for success. You're start building your own blueprint. Now, don't confuse this with not having structure. Systems matter, of course. Discipline matters, work ethic matters. You absolutely need systems, consistency, follow-up, lead generation, and accountability. But your brand, that should feel natural. Your brand should feel like an extension of who you already are. And here's another big piece that people miss. You cannot be a secret agent and expect people to hire you. The more authentic you are, the louder you need to be about it. Not obnoxious, not fake, and not performative, but visible. Because if people do not know who you are and what you stand for, what lights you up, what your energy feels like, or what kind of clients you serving, then you're not attracting the people who align with you. And that's exactly why social media matters so much right now. Social media is the new advertising pathway. We know this. We know this to be true. We are living in a time where we have a free platform every day to show up professionally while still being authentically ourselves. That is so powerful. You do not need a television commercial to spend thousands or millions of dollars, you do not need a billboard, and you do not need to look and sound like everybody else. You just need consistency, clarity, and the courage to show up as yourself. Because your future clients are watching along. They are watching you before they ever message you. They are deciding: do I connect with this person? Do I trust this person? Could I see myself working with this person? And the agents winning right now are not always the most polished, they are the most relatable, the most visible, the most consistent, and mostly the most human. Because in a city of sameness, especially in markets like Northern Virginia, where we are, there are tons of thousands of agents. Different becomes the new currency. Different is memorable, different is magnetic, different builds connection. And here's the big lesson. When you try to be everything to everyone, you end up becoming nothing to anyone, and you lose yourself in the process. The people who truly win long term are the ones who lean into who they are, not away from it. So maybe today is the day you stop overthinking your content. Stop trying to sound polished, stop trying to fit in someone else's version of success. Instead, ask yourself what makes me different? What parts of my story could help someone else? What would happen if I stopped hiding to things that made me unique? Maybe I'll embrace my uniqueness today. Because your people are not looking for perfect, they're looking for real, those that they can connect with. Once you figure out your niche while fully being yourself, that's when you can truly double down and build business sustainable, magnetic, and authentically you that feels comfortable being you. There's one saying that I picked up from Tom Ferry a long time ago, and it is implemented in my business. Your vibe attracts your tribe. The more you are your authentic self, the more you attract clients that have similar interests as you.
