Borrowed Energy vs. Real Energy. (06.03.26)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
This morning we talked about something so many high performers experience without even realizing it:
Borrowed Energy vs. Real Energy.
So many of us have learned how to function on stress, pressure, urgency, caffeine, adrenaline, and survival mode… and for a while it can actually feel productive.
But eventually the body starts asking for repayment.
Fatigue.Brain fog.Poor sleep.Irritability.Emotional exhaustion.Feeling disconnected from yourself.
Real energy feels different.
Real energy comes from:✔️ Rest✔️ Recovery✔️ Movement✔️ Nourishment✔️ Purpose✔️ Healthy boundaries✔️ Peace in your nervous system
Just because you can push through doesn’t mean it’s sustainable.
As we head into summer, this is your reminder to stop treating the things that restore you like they’re optional rewards you only deserve after burnout.
Those things are part of the work.
💫 Today’s challenge:Protect ONE thing this week that gives you real energy.
All right, good morning everybody, and welcome to the 6 a.m. call. It is Wednesday, June 3rd, and it's Wellness Wednesday. We're really glad you're here. Whether you're driving right now, which I'm wondering if any of you are, walking, getting ready for the gym, making coffee, or just trying to get your head straight before the day starts. This is your reminder that you do not have to do life or business alone. We are here for you, and we are excited to walk the journey with you. And today I want to talk about something I think a lot of us are dealing with without even realizing it. And it's borrowed energy versus real energy. Because honestly, a lot of high performers have gotten very good at functioning on what I like to call borrowed energy. We can push through, handle stress, perform under pressure, show up exhausted, and keep producing. We can keep answering and keep solving problems. And from the outside, it looks pretty successful. But internally, we're running on adrenaline, high cortisol, caffeine, urgency, anxiety, overthinking, obligation, and sometimes survival mode. And the crazy part is borrowed energy can actually fool you for a while. You feel productive, focused, and driven until one day you don't. Then suddenly you're exhausted, your sleep is off, you become irritable and unmotivated, sometimes emotionally kind of flat, hard to find those moments of amazing aha and spiritual connection. Your body sometimes starts to hurt, your brain can feel foggy, and you just stop feeling like yourself. And I think sometimes we mistake stimulation for vitality. And those are not the same thing. Just because your nervous system is activated doesn't mean you're truly energized. Real energy feels different. Real energy feels actually, real energy feels calm. Um, you feel awake, you feel calm. You generally have a feeling of um positive emotion. It's just a calm, um, steady, sustainable energy when it's real. And real energy comes from things that actually do restore you. Things like sleep, movement, protein, and hydration, so important and hard to do. Sunlight when you can, it's important to get out if you can into the sun as soon as it comes up in the morning for a few minutes, prayer or meditation, stillness, connection, laughter, purpose, healthy relationships, boundaries, and recovery. These things actually bring real sustainable energy. And honestly, some of us feel uncomfortable when things get calm because we've been operating in go mode for so long. We we'll really only know how to feel productive when we feel pressured. But peace is not laziness, recovery is not weakness, and rest is not falling behind, especially as we head into summer. I think this is such an important conversation because this season can either restore us or we can drag our exhausted selves right through it and end up even more depleted by fall. So maybe the question today is: Am I building a business and a life that actually gives energy back to me? Or am I constantly borrowing from my future self? Because eventually the body does keep the score, and the nervous system keeps the score, and the relationships keep the score. And sustainable success requires sustainable energy. So today's one action step is simple. Identify one thing that gives you real energy and intentionally protect it this week. And maybe it's a walk outside. I like to do a barefoot walk around in the grass for grounding every single day. A workout, maybe it's a quiet morning with some really great uplifting literature, getting to bed earlier, reading instead of scrolling, sitting outside for 10 minutes, cooking something you love, prayer, yoga, laughing with someone you love. Stop treating the things that restore you like they're optional rewards that you only deserve after you're burned out or actually after you've had a long, busy day. Those things are part of the work. So keep that in mind today as you move through your day. I want you guys to have an amazing wellness Wednesday. Take care of yourselves this week. And remember, you do not have to completely exhaust yourself in order to deserve rest. We love you guys. We thank you for supporting the 6 a.m. call, and Robin will be on the mic tomorrow. Take care. Have a great day.
