Welcome back to the Everyday Faith Podcast from East Side with today's Faith-Roooted Principle. Hey there, welcome back. I'm Isaac Johnson. Today is May the 20th, and our uh Bible verse for the day today, or a couple verses, Ephesians 6, 11 through 13, uh say this put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, having done all to stand. Standing in the day in which we live is very important. The Bible clearly tells us that we should take a stand. Our rooted principle for today is this stand fast and maintain your character against temptation, both public and private, both large and small, stand regardless of what's going on. So stand fast, maintain your character. I had a teacher in high school that would constantly say, Young people, y'all need to have some character, character. And he would always harp on character. And uh as a young person, I kind of, you know, just kind of shrugged it off. Uh but the older that I've gotten, I always remember him saying, Character, character, your character is important. And what did he mean by that? Well, taking a stand, uh, doing what's right, having some character about you uh in your life. You know, we're in a battle in our Christian life. Someone said this, they said we travel to heaven on a battleship, not a cruise ship. And uh in a battleship, it's vital that you stand firm, you maintain your character. The devil knows uh that if he can get us just to let our guard down just a little bit, in just one little small area, you know, it won't won't be long until we give him free reign to work in our lives in any area. There's no small character failures. Oscar Wilde was a brilliant and much praised writer, but he also was a greatly immoral man. Late in life he suffered the consequences of his lifestyle, and he wrote this. He said, I grew careless of the lives of others. I took pleasure where it pleased me, and I passed on. I forgot that every little action of the common day makes an unmakes character, and that therefore what one has done in secret chamber, one has some day to cry aloud from the house top. I cease to be lord over myself, I allowed pleasures to dominate me, I ended in horrible disgrace. The devil's perfectly content to take some small pieces of ground. If we don't stand firm, we'll find ourselves continually moving backwards until we're completely defeated. And when the temptations come, remember the warning from Scripture tells us this in Ephesians four twenty seven, neither give place to the devil. Guard your character so that the devil has no room to work in your life, and you'll be on the road to victory. So stand fast and maintain your character.
