Welcome back to the Everyday Faith Podcast from Eastside with today's Faith Rooted Principle.
SPEAKER_00Hey, it's Pastor Finley Cutshaw, Eastside Baptist Church. Today is Monday, May the twenty-fifth, and today's rooted principle is God has sent his goodness and mercy to follow you every step you take this day. And can I add to that every day? Psalm twenty three, four through six says this, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Did you hear that? Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm twenty three, verses four through six. What a great passage, what a great thought. Dr. Chapel in his uh devotional book gives us the story of the early American Indians and how that when they had their passage into manhood, they would be blindfolded, taken out into the woods, somewhere where they didn't know where they were, and then the blindfold would be removed. And so they would be out there in the middle of the night, and they'd have to spend the whole night and then find their way back home safely. And so as that young brave was uh in that situation, he would be probably very frightened in most circumstances. I can remember going into the mountains of East Tennessee and my stepdad dropping me off to go trout fishing before daylight, and he'd tell me, walk right down there to the creek and wait until daylight and you'll be able to fish right there. It's a good spot. Boy, it was scary for a nine-year-old kid to walk down to that creek all by himself, and truly every twig that popped would scare you. Well, in the Braves' case, that would be the same thing, and I could imagine that it would be uh quite frightening, but as the sun would rise the next morning, he would see in the shadowy distance a figure which would be his father. His own dad would be out there with him, watching every step of the way, guarding him with bow and arrow in hand to make sure that he was safe, but he never saw him, even though he was there. He wouldn't see him until the next day. And the truth is God is there with us. That father was always pursuing that young brave, and God is always pursuing us with his goodness. Well it brought another story to my mind as I thought about that. You know, you and I acknowledge that goodness. We know that God is faithful, we know that he is pursuing us with that goodness, but I got to thinking about people that are running from the goodness of God. You know, there's a lot of people out there that don't realize that God is pursuing them because he loves them and wants to be good to them. He wants to give them eternal life, he wants to give them peace, he wants to give them everlasting joy, and yet they run away from God and run into sin. I don't know if you know anybody like that, or maybe somebody listening today could be like that. Can I tell you if you'll just stop running and turn to God, He's got some goodness for you that you'll never get over, you'll never get past it, and I promise it's way better than any sinful thing that you could run to. Today's rooted principle, God has sent his goodness and mercy to follow you every step that you take. Hey, if you're running from that goodness, stop running and start enjoying it by receiving Christ. Have a great day.
