Welcome back to the Everyday Faith Podcast from Eastside with today's Faith-Rooted Principle.
SPEAKER_01Good morning, it's Pastor Finley Cutshaw again. And today we're looking at the second principle of the Judeo-Christian ethic. Yesterday we talked about the dignity of human life. Today we're going to talk about as it's referred to in the American Patriots Bible, the traditional monogamous family. I would like to just kind of change the wording of that to the biblical family. Genesis chapter two, verse 23 and 24 says this, and Adam said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh. It's interesting too to note when Jesus was questioned by the Pharisees concerning marriage, he quoted pretty much verbatim some of this text that we just read. And that indicates to me that God's mind had not changed about marriage from the time of creation all the way until the time of Jesus, which would have been about 4,000 years. And so you have a pretty important statement here, a pretty important uh issue when it we talk about these uh Judeo-Christian values, and that is the traditional biblical family. I call it the biblical family because God is the one that determines what a family is. Uh though society has often corrupted the biblical family, it remains the bedrock of a healthy, flourishing society. God established marriage based on the fact that it was not good that the man should be alone. Genesis chapter 2, verse number 18. It was God that created the woman from the rib of man. And I think it's important to acknowledge the fact that he took from him a rib. He didn't take a bone from his head so that she'd rule over him, or a bone from his foot, so that he could be, it could be said that she's supposed to be under his feet, but a rib bone so that she stands beside of him and close to his heart. God ordained that this would be the means of procreation and family life. God's perfect design was one man and one woman for one lifetime. He told Adam and Eve to multiply. This implies building a family. And any perversion of this plan weakens society and mars God's influence and image in his created order. So you and I need to understand that this is not just an important principle because we may be conservatives. It's an important principle because God Himself is the one that ordained it to be so. So today, this matter of the traditional biblical family was a guiding principle in the Judeo-Christian values that founded this nation. If we remove that or remove the dignity of human life, our nation will crumble. God bless.
