25 Days of Prayer and Praise - June 29, 2026

Welcome back to the Everyday Faith Podcast from Eastside with today's Faith-Rooted Principle. Happy Monday to you. It's Monday, June the 29th, and we are fastly approaching our nation's birthday, our 250th birthday. And so we're having still having our 25 days of praise and prayer for America. And as we think about America, I just kind of started looking into different dates and things that happened on that particular date pertaining to American history. And found some interesting things today, June the 29th, that happened today in our nation, and really things that helped shape our nation to where it is today. As far as in 1776, so this is even before our nation was officially founded, the Commonwealth of Virginia adopted the first independent state constitution. And so they're the ones, they've had the first independent state of Virginia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, they had their constitution, and it heavily influenced the uh future state and federal documents. And it's interesting who they elected to be their first governor. That was none other than Patrick Henry, was their first governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. And then you move on down in history, you find some other interesting things. In 1964, uh there was the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that was uh really headed up by President Lyndon B. Johnson and uh officially passed the Senate after an 83-day filibuster, and uh it legally prohibited racial segregation in schools and uh different public places. Uh that's something big that really helped to shape America. In 1972, although a few years later, uh the landmark Furman versus Georgia case in the Supreme Court uh effectively voided all existing state death penalty laws. And uh the the uh justices ruled that the arbitrary application of the penalty constituted cruel and unusual punishment. Now, uh whether we're for or against that, that's just something that has happened in our history. In uh 1956, so we're gonna go back just a little bit, as far as transportation and technology. I found this to be interesting. It happened uh today. There was an act that was signed into place by Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. And this is where our interstate system got its start in 1956, the interstates that we enjoy today. And then one more cool little tidbit uh that I found was interesting that happened today. Uh in 2007, the Apple Incorporated company changed the mobile industry by releasing the first generation of what many of you may even be listening to this podcast on. They released the first generation of the iPhone to the American public in 2007, June the 29th, 2007. And uh all of these things uh have helped to shape us into uh America that we know it today and the things that uh we have and the things that we uh appreciate. And so let's take just a moment and thank God for really even the advancements in our society, the advancement of roads, the advancement uh of uh technology, even to get us to be able to proclaim the gospel even more clearly uh to those here and around the world. Let's pray. Dear Heavenly Father, again, thank you so much for America. Thank you that we can take time uh focusing on the fact that you've given us such a great country. Lord, I thank you uh for uh the freedoms that we enjoy. Thank you that uh you have uh allowed America to be as great as it is. And Lord, we have seen some amazing uh steps in technology, uh advancements in our society, uh advancements even in laws and things that have uh been put in place. But Lord, really we can point back and say, the Lord allowed all of that to happen. And Lord, thank you for that. And I pray that we would not take the technology and the uh advancements in highway systems and the things that we have for granted, but Lord, we would realize it's just an opportunity to be able to uh spread the gospel even easily, more easily uh than it once could have spread. And God, I pray that we would be busy doing our part in spreading the gospel uh across the street and even around the world, using technology, uh using all the things that you've given to us and blessed us with uh here in America.
