25 Days of Prayer and Praise - June 30, 2026

Welcome back to the Everyday Faith Podcast from Eastside with today's Faith-Rooted Principle. Hey there, welcome back. I'm Isaac Johnson, and today is Tuesday, June the 30th. We're leading right up to our nation's birthday, celebrating 250 years. And uh as we continue our 25 days of prayer and praise, I really want to take just another moment and look at some American history and things that happened in our nation really to uh to bring us to where we are today, because our nation's story is very interesting. And uh on June the 30th, this day in history, back in 1775, so before uh America uh gained her independence, uh George Washington officially took command on June 30th, 1775, of the Continental Army in Cambridge. And just two weeks earlier, the Continental Congress had appointed him to be the commander in chief. And now here is George Washington standing before uh ordinary people, farmers and tradesmen, just normal volunteer people that were fighting for their liberty. And uh these people, Washington accepted the responsibility to lead this army, and what an enormous responsibility it was to lead these people to fight for their liberty. And really, we know that Washington knew the task ahead was uh greater than any man could do alone. And uh throughout his life you can see George Washington acknowledged his dependence upon God's providence and the victories that followed for George Washington and for that uh continental army were not because uh of that they had the strongest army, but it is because God sustained a people that were determined to be free. And so that happened on June the 30th, 1775. Another cool thing that happened today uh on June the 30th, 1859, uh Charles uh Blondin crossed the Niagara Falls on a tightrope for the very first time. Thousands of people watched as he crossed safely. And uh then later he asked if uh if someone in the crowd believed that they could he could carry them across on in a wheelbarrow. And everyone shouted, yes, hey, I can uh you can carry carry a wheelbarrow across, uh, but nobody volunteered to step forward to get into uh that wheelbarrow, right? Which kind of reminds me of this that uh trust uh believing is one thing, but trusting is another, right? And uh trust in the Lord, the Bible says. That's a there's a biblical application there. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not into thine own understanding, and all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. You know, Washington faced impossible odds. We talked about Washington there in 1775 leading the Continental Army, but he continually sought God's directions, and America's founders understood that the liberty uh required dependence upon the Lord, trusting in the Lord. And our nation uh simply doesn't simply just need uh patriotic citizens. We need some Christians who'll stand up and trust God, not just in word, not just believe God, but trust him uh in everyday life. Faith uh is isn't simply just believing that God is able, it's placing our hands like that tightrope artist, completely in his hands, completely in God's hands, uh, to take care of us. And as we celebrate uh our nation's uh heritage and we celebrate what uh America is, thank God for leaders who sought for his wisdom. And uh am I merely just trusting God or am I actually living like I trust him? Let's pray together. Heavenly Father, thank you for your goodness to America. Thank you for your leadership to America throughout history, and thank you for leaders who recognized their need uh for you and for your guidance. And Lord, I pray that you would help us uh to trust you completely in every area of our life, not just with our nation, but Lord, in every aspect of our life. And Lord, I pray that you would bless our nation. Lord, I pray that you would strengthen our nation. I pray that you would strengthen uh our church. Lord, I pray that you would help us uh to be faithful witnesses for Jesus Christ. It's in Jesus' name that I pray. Amen.
