Hello, today is Saturday, July the 11th, and this is Pastor Finley Cuttshaw. Today's faith-rooted principle is this trust God even when things seem to be going badly. Romans 8 28, and it's a verse we've referred to before on here, but I want to read it and share some thoughts with you today. It says, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. I was just on the phone a little while ago with an old preacher friend of mine. He is ninety years old, and so we were reminiscing and he was sharing some stories with me, and he told me the story of a man. Um it's an illustration. He said, Sometimes, you know, people think that when bad things happen, it's really bad and it can't be used for good. Well, this man had been on board a ship and he uh was shipwrecked, and he was the only survivor, but he made it to the to a little small island somehow on a piece of broken board of the ship or something, and when he got there he built himself a hut and he had lived there for a couple of years, and he had often tried to flag down ships that were passing by, he put things up that hoped that they would be able to see and so forth, but he never got any attention. And so one night he was there on the island and his little hut somehow caught on fire, and the man became so very discouraged he said, Dear God, what are you doing to me? I've been shipwrecked on this island. The only thing I had in this world was that hut, and it was the only shelter I had. And all of a sudden he could hear a ship's horn by behind him coming toward the island. When the person, the captain of the ship, uh talked with the man once they got him on board the ship, he said, How did y'all even know I was here? I've tried to get the attention of ships in the past, and it never has worked. The captain said we saw the fire from off the shore. We saw the fire way out while we were way out in the ocean, and then the man understood that God had done that for him. The man didn't set fire to his hut. He wouldn't have done that, but God did, and because of that, he was rescued. Sometimes bad things or what we think of as bad things come into our lives and we don't like them. We think that the outcome can't be good as a result of whatever it is. But as in the case with the man on the island, Romans 8.28, we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Trust in God even when things seem to be going badly.
