Good morning, it's Pastor Finley Cuttshaw. Today is Tuesday, July 21st, 2026. Today's rooted principle, it's more blessed to give than to receive. Matthew 5, forty through 42. And if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain, give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away. Jesus is the one that spoke those words, and I'll tell you what, that is not human like living. That is Christ like living. You and I can't live that way in our own power. If somebody takes us to the court of law, what we hope to do is turn the tables on them and take their coat and their cloak. But Jesus said, if they take you to sue you in the court of law to take away your coat, just go ahead and give them your cloak also. If somebody walks up and compels you to go a mile, go with them two miles. The reality is that in Bible times, when this was written, when Jesus was here on earth and the Romans ruled in Israel, they could come to a Jewish person or any non-Roman person, non-Roman citizen, and they could give them their burden and say, carry this for me for the next mile. And then that person, by law, by Roman law, had to carry whatever that burden was, even if they were going the opposite direction, or if they had their own burden, they had to put theirs down and carry that burden for that soldier or Roman citizen for at least a mile. Imagine the surprise. When they got to the end of the mile, and the Roman citizen expected to be given the burden back, and that Christian looked at them and said, I'll go another mile with you. I want to be a blessing. Could you imagine? I mean, that's just not manlike. That's not human-like. That's divine-like. That's Christ-like. How do we know that that's Christ-like? Well, Jesus didn't just look down from heaven and say, Boy, they need help. He came down from heaven, lived among sinful men, died on a cruel cross, took all the burden and payment for our sin, all so that he could not just go the mile with us, but the extra mile. Jesus went out of his way so that we could be redeemed. Listen, you and I ought to be the kind of people that are willing to give of what we have to help those who do not have it. It is more blessed to give than to receive. God bless.
