number 16, Exodus 25, verse number 16. 00:01:57.760 --> 00:02:07.040 And the Bible says, And thou shalt put into the ark, we talked about that Ark of the Covenant last time, the testimony which I in shape, made of wood, covered over with gold. 00:03:46.400 --> 00:04:09.360 Inside that box, that arc, inside that are the laws, commandments, statutes, and ordinances of God written, written to the Bible says every one of us has sinned often. 00:06:12.959 --> 00:06:23.279 And the Bible says that because every one of us have sinned, every one of us is under condemnation and is deserving of the wrath and judgment of God. 00:06:23.600 --> 00:06:26.480 That's just the facts from the Bible. 00:06:26.800 --> 00:07:05.920 However, the God we've sinned against is a merciful God, the God whose laws and commandments we have broken is a merciful God, and his mercy, his mercy sits above his law, so that you may find forgiveness if you will come to God humbly as a lawbreaker, and put your faith and your trust in the one, the one who paid for your transgressions, the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:07:06.240 --> 00:07:16.879 Now, this tabernacle is a remarkable thing, not only in its simplicity, but in the attention to which God gives it. 00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:23.759 Over fifty chapters in the Bible are devoted to the tabernacle. 00:07:24.639 --> 00:07:35.279 During forty days and forty nights on the mountain, the Lord revealed to Moses the pattern of the tabernacle, which would be central to the life of Israel up to the days of David the king. 00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:43.759 There was a gap of over a hundred years when the ark was absent, and after which, in the reign of Solomon, the temple took its place. 00:07:44.560 --> 00:07:50.160 And associated with the tabernacle, there was a priesthood and a sacrificial system which was appointed by God. 00:07:50.319 --> 00:08:00.720 And any who regard this as a merely historical development, which has been superseded and has no value for today, you're going to miss out on a lot of truth. 00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:33.919 You see, as we mentioned, 50 chapters in the Bible devoted to the tabernacle, 13 in Exodus, chapter 25 to 31, and chapter 35 to 40, 17 chapters in Leviticus, 13 chapters in Numbers, three chapters in Deuteronomy, and in the New Testament, eight chapters of Hebrews have the tabernacle as their central idea or point of comparison. 00:08:34.960 --> 00:08:42.720 Now, this far exceeds the chapters dealing with the temple and reflects the value of the teaching that is associated with the tabernacle. 00:08:42.879 --> 00:09:04.960 So great is this truth that although the creation of the universe is covered in two chapters in Genesis, the construction of the tabernacle occupies, well, as we said, fifty chapters, because it shows the great purposes of God in redemption. 00:09:05.440 --> 00:09:16.159 And God is in the Bible far more concerned with redeeming man than he is with man knowing how things were made. 00:09:17.519 --> 00:09:23.279 Now, the scripture contains a number of titles given to the tabernacle. 00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:26.559 Let's consider some of the main ones. 00:09:27.679 --> 00:09:34.399 In Exodus 25, 8, the tabernacle is called a sanctuary. 00:09:35.279 --> 00:09:45.679 As we mentioned last time, the desire of the Lord is to have a place in which he could dwell and meet together with his people. 00:09:50.320 --> 00:09:57.120 Looking forward to the day when there would be the place that God had made. 00:10:01.200 --> 00:10:03.759 That was in chapter 15, verse 17. the tabernacle is called the tabernacle of the Lord. 00:10:31.679 --> 00:10:43.200 This title is used five or six times in the Pentateuch, indicating that the tabernacle was the possession, not of the which was to burn in the tabernacle of the congregation without the veil, which is before the testimony. 00:15:07.919 --> 00:15:47.440 It signifies that this was the gathering place of the people, the place where they or their representatives were summoned to appear before the Lord, who was the center of their lives, the place where their spiritual needs were met, where they offered their worship, the place uh where they the uh the way they maintained the, let me say it that way, the way they maintained the place, which was their responsibility, also showed much about its importance and thus God's importance to the people. 00:15:47.679 --> 00:16:12.799 Now, reference has been made to the fact that the tabernacle is sometimes referred to a tent, and the words are often used by uh preachers and Bible teachers somewhat interchangeably, and that's because quite obviously this was a temporary, movable uh bit of construction. 00:16:12.960 --> 00:16:36.080 Unlike the temple, with its solid foundations that could not be moved or transported about, the tabernacle was a transportable, if that's a word, uh dwelling place, a mobile home, if you will, as opposed to uh one set upon firm
