in front of us. 00:01:13.920 --> 00:01:18.799 We've been studying the Bible book of Exodus together, and some of it's been a bit difficult. 00:01:19.120 --> 00:01:34.480 We started out running with all that Pharaoh and Moses and plagues and miracles and Passover blood and Red Sea crossing, but we've bogged down just a little as we've run into these instructions for the building of the tabernacle. 00:01:34.799 --> 00:01:52.719 And I think we would do well to suggest that if we learn something from the Bible, it's that it's far more exciting to read about what God is doing for us 28th chapter of Exodus today, Exodus chapter 28, we begin to look at what the Bible has to say about the high priest and the high priesthood. 00:02:12.080 --> 00:02:17.120 And I trust that you'll be from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, Eliezer, and Ithamar, Aaron's sons, and thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. 00:02:57.919 --> 00:03:06.240 Now, in the New Testament church, everybody is a priest, and so our ministers don't wear special garments and costumes. 00:03:06.560 --> 00:03:09.360 We are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:03:09.520 --> 00:03:21.759 But in the Old Testament, the nation of Israel, they had a high priest that was separated from and elevated above his brethren, and he was identified as such by special garments. 00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:28.800 Sad that so few people understand the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament, but we thought we'd have to point that out. 00:03:28.960 --> 00:03:34.800 You see a man running around in fancy clothes to identify himself as a minister. 00:03:34.960 --> 00:03:36.879 He's saying, I'm above you. 00:03:37.360 --> 00:03:48.000 And in the New Testament, Jesus put a uh took a towel and girded himself and got down and washed his disciples' feet and said, We're not doing it that way in the New Testament. 00:03:49.039 --> 00:03:50.719 But a lot of people don't understand that. 00:03:50.879 --> 00:03:51.919 All right, verse 4. 00:03:52.159 --> 00:03:59.840 And these are the garments which they shall make, a breastplate and an ephod and a robe, an embroidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle. 00:04:00.479 --> 00:04:06.479 And they shall make holy or an ephod was worn by Aaron the priest, Samuel the prophet, 1 Samuel 2.18, and David the King, 2 Samuel 6.14, the three offices which speak of the Lord Jesus Christ, our prophet, priest, and king. think about this high priesthood. 00:08:20.399 --> 00:08:24.800 There are two great priests in the Old Testament. 00:08:25.360 --> 00:08:31.120 Melchizedek, he ministered to the Gentiles. 00:08:31.680 --> 00:08:34.559 He was the first and last of his order. 00:08:34.799 --> 00:08:36.399 Hebrews 7, verse 12. 00:08:36.480 --> 00:08:38.720 There's none before him, there's none after him. 00:08:38.960 --> 00:08:41.600 The second of the two great priests was Aaron. 00:08:42.240 --> 00:08:50.480 He ministered to Israel, the nation, and his order continued through the sons born unto him. 00:08:51.679 --> 00:08:55.679 Now the Levites were given to Aaron and his sons to minister to them. 00:08:56.000 --> 00:08:57.440 Numbers 3, 9. 00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:02.559 And so Aaron's sons are set forth as one unit with their father. 00:09:02.720 --> 00:09:06.639 Did you notice the uh unusual wording in verse 1? 00:09:06.960 --> 00:09:14.240 Aaron and his sons with him, that he may minister unto me. 00:09:16.080 --> 00:09:21.039 So there is one priesthood, though the sons participate. 00:09:21.200 --> 00:09:34.799 Now the list of the sons which follow links them with the high priest and sets off a series of types or pictures that speak of the believer's union with the great high priest. 00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:51.360 Now keep in mind, Aaron, the high priest, pictures Jesus Christ, whom Hebrews 2, verses 11 and 12 says is our great high priest. 00:09:51.840 --> 00:10:16.080 The New Testament is very, very clear on this, that we no longer have a family line of Israelite priests who minister at a Jewish altar for one nation on the earth, but we now have a great high priest who ministers in the presence of God the Father for all saved men and women everywhere. 00:10:16.320 --> 00:10:17.759 Hebrews 2. 00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:20.639 Sorry, let's read three first of all. 00:10:20.799 --> 00:10:22.080 Hebrews 3, verse 1. 00:10:22.240 --> 00:10:39.519 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the apostle and high priest of our profession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. 00:10:39.759 --> 00:10:51.679 For this man, Jesus Christ, was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honor than the house. 00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:57.840 So Jesus Christ is clearly our great high priest. 00:10:58.080 --> 00:11:12.320 Hebrews 12, 11, and 12, for both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren. 00:11:12.559 --> 00:11:17.039 In the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:23.039 So Jesus is our high priest, as Aaron was Israel's high priest. 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:37.440 We have union, believers, born-again Christians, we have union with our high priest, just as Aaron's sons had union with him, as he served as the high priest. 00:11:37.600 --> 00:11:44.879 Now, Aaron, like Jesus, was chosen of God. 00:11:45.919 --> 00:11:48.240 Hebrews chapter 5, verses 1 and 4. 00:11:48.320 --> 00:11:52.159 He didn't take the honor to himself, it was given to him by God. 00:11:52.320 --> 00:12:03.120 So Jesus Christ is not the great high priest because he opted to take that honor to himself or to wrest it from someone else. 00:12:03.279 --> 00:12:08.960 That place was given to him by God the Father. 00:12:09.759 --> 00:12:16.320 Then we see that Aaron was anointed to be the representative of the people. 00:12:17.200 --> 00:12:21.039 And so was Jesus Christ. 00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:45.360 In Hebrews 2.17 and Hebrews 5.1, we read that of Aaron's anointing and that of Jesus Christ, and you'll recall at his baptism in Luke 4.19, when God the Father sent God the Holy Spirit, descending upon Jesus like a dove, said, This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building, neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood. 00:14:54.480 --> 00:15:01.519 He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 00:15:01.840 --> 00:15:14.879 And then in Hebrews 10, verse 10, the scripture says, by the which will we are sanctified through the offering of separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. 00:15:53.120 --> 00:15:57.919 Therefore, his offering was perfect. 00:15:58.240 --> 00:16:00.480 Listen to this, his offering was perfect. 00:16:00.639 --> 00:16:02.960 Hebrews 9 25, nor yet. 00:16:04.000 --> 00:16:09.519 That he should offer himself often as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with the blood of others. 00:16:09.840 --> 00:16:24.000 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world, but now, once, in the end of the world, hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice chose that nation of Israel. 00:17:21.759 --> 00:17:25.200 Out of all the people in that nation, God chose a tribe, Levi. 00:17:25.359 --> 00:17:45.279 Out of all the Levites, God chose a man, Aaron and his sons, and said that that one man would minister in the Holy of Holies, in the presence of God, on behalf of God's chosen nation, the children of Israel. 00:17:45.599 --> 00:18:29.519 Now, in the New Testament, Jesus Christ the Lord, one man, chosen, anointed, ordained of God, to minister in the presence of God on behalf of the people of God, not an earthly people, not a physically generated nationality, but a spiritually generated church, and we don't have popes, and we don't have high priests, and we don't have fathers and rabbis and masters. 00:18:30.480 --> 00:18:35.200 We have one Lord Jesus Christ. 00:18:35.519 --> 00:18:46.319 And listen, Aaron, the high priest, he could go in once, once each year, and stay briefly. 00:18:46.640 --> 00:19:03.119 But Jesus Christ, he entered once, and he ever lives, he ever abides, he never leaves the presence of God the Father, and there where he lives, he ever lives to make intercession for us. 00:19:04.000 --> 00:19:07.440 What as we looked upon the color of the thing and realized that uh there's no way that man could have made something like that, or accident or chance could have resulted in something like that, we we would give glory to God for the one type of rock that God and only God could make, and for the one color with which he colored that rock as only God could do, and we would praise his name. 00:22:31.920 --> 00:22:56.480 But my friend, when you consider the countless varieties of rocks, their different strengths and textures, and uh the composite nature of this one and the and the fantastic uh preparation of that one, and then you see all the different colors. 00:22:57.519 --> 00:23:04.960 Have you ever been to a museum where they display rocks, the different types of rocks and mineral? 00:23:05.039
