These are New Testaments, and they're they're not in bad condition, but they are worn, they are used, they have they have seen better days. 00:01:39.439 --> 00:01:42.079 You couldn't sell them in a store for brand new New Testament. 00:01:42.159 --> 00:01:45.680 Someone walking in wanting to buy a new Bible wouldn't pick these up. 00:01:46.879 --> 00:01:52.959 But there are people that write to us by the thousands every year. 00:01:53.359 --> 00:01:54.640 That's not an exaggeration. 00:01:54.799 --> 00:02:13.520 By the thousands every year, there are people that write to us and ought to know if there is any possible way that we could send them a copy of the Bible that they might have one for the very own, because either they do not have Bibles in their country to buy, or if they do have Bibles in their country to buy, they have no money to buy them. 00:02:13.680 --> 00:02:20.400 They are so poor that it takes all of their uh money just to buy their daily bread, just to live and survive. 00:02:20.479 --> 00:02:44.000 And so these four Bibles that I have in my hand, they may not be very pretty, they may not be something that you and the wealth and affluence of America would walk into a store and purchase, and yet we can put these in a box and mail them overseas, and there will be four families somewhere in a third world country that will have a copy of the Word of God especially those of you listening in America, I believe that you probably have Bibles laying around the house that you don't use. 00:02:54.240 --> 00:03:02.800 You probably have copies of the New Testament lying about that someone gave you or came into your possession as a child or something like that, and you you have no intention of ever using them. 00:03:03.840 --> 00:03:12.560 If you could get those Bibles to us, we would get them to someone overseas that has no Bible. 00:03:13.120 --> 00:03:39.360 If you have a large quantity of them and you would write to us, we would send you the name and address of someone overseas, a pastor or a missionary, to whom you could send those Bibles yourself, and by so doing we could get them out of closets and off of shelves and out of boxes in a back room somewhere, and we could get them into the hands of people that would love to have them because they have no copy of the Word of God for their very own. 00:03:39.599 --> 00:03:41.039 I'd two, and one of the ways we can do it is by sending these old Bibles that are not being used to people that will use them. 00:04:08.639 --> 00:04:14.319 Alright, we're in the middle of a series in which we are discussing the Bible as science. 00:04:14.560 --> 00:04:16.000 The Bible as science. 00:04:16.160 --> 00:04:21.839 The Word of God is attacked on many hands and on many fronts, but primarily through those that claim it's not scientific. 00:04:22.079 --> 00:04:24.560 And we have talked about modern science. 00:04:24.879 --> 00:04:28.800 We have talked about the harmony of the relationship between science and the scriptures. 00:04:29.040 --> 00:04:33.439 We have compared ancient wisdom to true God given revelation. 00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:38.639 We have discussed the fact that modern science is indeed to be found in this ancient book, the Bible. 00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:45.600 We have discussed modern science as it relates to the story of Jonah and the whale and prove that story conclusively. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:51.519 And we are now discussing modern science and the Ark of Noah. 00:04:51.920 --> 00:04:55.439 Modern science and the Ark of Noah. 00:04:55.920 --> 00:05:06.399 We talked last time about the fact that most people who claim that all two of all those animals could never fit into the Ark have two outstanding problems in supporting their argument. 00:05:06.639 --> 00:05:12.079 Number one, they don't know how many kinds of animals there were in Noah's day to put on the Ark. 00:05:12.319 --> 00:05:15.759 And number two, they have no idea how big the Ark was. 00:05:16.160 --> 00:05:28.720 And so basically they're saying, I don't believe that a number of animals which I do not know could get onto the Ark, the size of which I do not know, and therefore I base what I know on what I don't know. 00:05:29.199 --> 00:05:31.279 That's called modern science. 00:05:31.680 --> 00:05:42.160 It may sound stupid to you, it probably sounds stupid to God, but people would rather go to hell clinging to something they don't know than go to heaven standing upon the truth of something they could know for sure. 00:05:42.399 --> 00:05:46.959 That's just the deception and the delusion of Satan in these last days. 00:05:47.120 --> 00:05:52.319 Now we want to continue on the program today our discussion of the Ark of Noah. 00:05:54.240 --> 00:06:05.040 Now without question, the Ark was the largest vessel that ever floated prior to the building of the giant liners of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. 00:06:05.279 --> 00:06:13.040 Because of its square construction, it could carry a third more cargo than any modern vessel that equaled it in size and dimensions. 00:06:13.360 --> 00:06:24.240 And when modern engine rooms, cruise quarters, control stations, lifeboats, and safety belts, cabins, gymnasia, knife edged bows, and rounded sterns are all deducted. 00:06:24.959 --> 00:06:39.279 An arc of the size set forth in the Bible, five hundred and sixty two feet by ninety-three feet by fifty six feet, let's say, would carry a much larger load than any ship of these approximate dimensions sailing on the seas today. 00:06:40.160 --> 00:06:43.680 The second factor in the problem is found in the size of the load. 00:06:44.079 --> 00:06:47.439 This factor is as variable as the factor of capacity. 00:06:47.920 --> 00:06:52.560 The exact number of animals which were carried in the ark can never be determined by science. 00:06:52.800 --> 00:06:56.079 There may have been more kinds of animals living then. 00:06:56.319 --> others are all grouped under the head of every living thing of all flesh. 00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:11.839 Of the animals classified as clean, there were to be fourteen. 00:07:12.079 --> 00:07:22.480 I know all the storybook pictures show two of every kind of animal, but the Bible said there were to be to be seven pairs of each clean animal, and one pair of each unclean animal. 00:07:23.199 --> 00:07:29.759 Seven male, seven female, of those that are clean, of the other unclean animals, there were to be one pair, a male and female of each. 00:07:30.240 --> 00:07:40.959 Noah was not under the necessity of finding room in his ark for every variety and every specimen of animal and bird alive today. 00:07:41.360 --> 00:07:46.000 Now as soon as we see this, the problem of the ark is simplified tremendously. 00:07:46.319 --> 00:07:49.920 The specific command is of each kind. 00:07:51.360 --> 00:08:00.160 Now kind is a species, and may generally be described as those which can crossbreed with fertility. 00:08:01.040 --> 00:08:08.319 Between any two kinds there is a line of demarcation closely drawn, and none may cross that line. 00:08:08.639 --> 00:08:21.519 The living things which can crossbreed or hybridize with fertility are all related to that genus or kind, and undoubtedly arose from the same parent ancestral stalk. 00:08:21.759 --> 00:08:28.160 The myriad varieties of each kind we see about us today have come by the process of mutation. 00:08:29.360 --> 00:08:34.240 Now, I know what some of you are thinking right now that follow that line of reasoning, you're saying, isn't this evolution? 00:08:34.399 --> 00:08:35.600 Do you really believe in evolution? 00:08:35.679 --> 00:08:37.840 No, it's it's not evolution. 00:08:38.320 --> 00:08:40.799 Evolution is transmutation. 00:08:41.679 --> 00:08:54.000 As long as the mutant or variant or variety under discussion does not cross that line of demarcation and become some other kind, it is just development and growth. 00:08:54.159 --> 00:08:56.000 It's not evolution. 00:08:57.039 --> 00:09:01.039 There is a tendency to variation within the boundary of every species. 00:09:01.360 --> 00:09:07.440 The law of Mendel, and you remember that, you studied it, the two the yellow peas and the green peas and all that stuff. 00:09:07.600 --> 00:09:11.840 The law of Mendel is based upon observations of this process of variation. 00:09:11.919 --> 00:09:14.080 That's what the whole thing, that whole thing was about. 00:09:15.120 --> 00:09:19.679 Now, as a very common example of this process, we can cite the dahlia. 00:09:20.480 --> 00:09:26.960 The dahlia reproduces from a root clump, which is erroneously called a bulb, it's not that at all. 00:09:27.200 --> 00:09:30.720 This root clump of the dahlia reproduces true to its type. 00:09:30.960 --> 00:09:45.600 For instance, if you have red dahlias in your garden this year, and you save the root clumps to plant the following season, from the root clumps of the red dahlia, you will get red dahlias of that type and variety. 00:09:46.080 --> 00:09:50.799 But the dahlia also produces seeds. 00:09:51.440 --> 00:09:59.919 When you plant the seeds from a red dahlia, you may get a dozen different colors of dahlia, none of which will be red. 00:10:00.799 --> 00:10:09.200 Of these mutants or variants, about two percent will fix themselves as a new 00:11:14.799 Now, if Noah took into his arc a pair of a pure strain of every available creature, the varieties would have arisen by the process of mutation. 00:11:15.600 --> 00:11:19.039 A typical there are many, many different varieties of bees. 00:11:31.120 --> 00:11:35.120 But Noah would have to take only a fertile queen into the ark. 00:11:35.440 --> 00:11:36.399 That's all. 00:11:36.799 --> 00:11:41.840 For her progeny could turn, in turn, give rise to all the other varieties. 00:11:42.639 --> 00:11:51.120 This statement has been objected to on the ground that the queen bee does not care for or raise her own brood, but that this work is done by the workers of the hive. 00:11:51.360 --> 00:11:59.360 Now this is unquestionably their present condition, but how did the first pair of bees raise their young? 00:12:00.480 --> 00:12:08.080 You see, if we admit that the bees were created like all other creatures, there was a male and a queen, and from them came all the bees. certainly capable, were there no workers, of raising its own young. 00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:44.399 There's a species of bees known as Ata, of whom BB has written in his book The Edge of the Jungle. 00:12:44.960 --> 00:12:47.519 I'm sorry, species of ant, I'm still thinking about bee. 00:12:47.600 --> 00:12:50.960 Let's talk about ant for a minute, atta ATTA ant. 00:12:51.600 --> 00:13:09.360 These ants have a queen who lays the eggs from which the workers hatch and rear the young, but when starting a new colony, the queen begins all by herself, laying the eggs and rearing the young unaided, until she has enough workers reared to take over the task, after which she degenerates to a mere egg laying machine. 00:13:09.679 --> 00:13:14.480 Now it's evident that the first bees must have had some such method of procedure like this. 00:13:16.000 --> 00:13:18.080 Another case may be the dogs. 00:13:18.639 --> 00:13:27.440 If Noah took the original strain into the ark, a male and a female, they would give rise to the other varieties of dogs. 00:13:27.759 --> 00:13:48.799 From one pair of canines, the process of mutation would soon produce all the many different breeds of dog, so familiar now, and it is not too much to say that the present varieties of man and each other kind of living creatures could have arisen, and undoubtedly did arise from an original pair of each kind. 00:13:49.200 --> 00:13:57.600 So in the case of Noah, he need not crowd his ark with a pair of every known variety, but just take two of the pure strain of each species. 00:13:58.559 --> 00:14:01.679 Now, true species are few. 00:14:02.000 --> 00:14:04.159 Varieties are many. 00:14:04.639 --> 00:14:09.120 But even of the true species there are some which would not have had to enter the ark. 00:14:09.440 --> 00:14:17.120 Why would ducks not survive in the rain unless certain geological cataclysms that probably attended the deluge would make it impossible? 00:14:17.360 --> 00:14:19.679 Certainly the rain would not drive them in. 00:14:19.919 --> 00:14:26.159 The alligators and crocodiles can live in salt water or fresh, or they prefer a mixture of both. 00:14:26.399 --> 00:14:30.639 They prefer their diet well ripened, so they would farewell outside the ark. 00:14:30.879 --> 00:14:36.240 The fish would all be safe outside, and the barnacles could find a home on the bottom of the ark. 00:14:36.480 --> 00:14:43.759 In other words, a little analysis of the text shows that ignorance loses its battle against revelation. 00:14:45.279 --> 00:14:53.279 Reason reason will drive out these doubts, these arguments of skeptics. 00:14:53.600 --> 00:15:00.639 If you just take the time to think the thing through, it's not as big a problem as the so-called scientists would suggest. 00:15:02.080 --> 00:15:15.759 Now, if half the ark had been filled with food and fourteen individuals of every true species now inhabiting that world were stored in the other half of the ark, there would have been an average. 00:15:15.919 --> 00:15:25.279 Now listen, listen, there would have been an average of 175 cubic feet of space for every individual. 00:15:26.559 --> 00:15:36.399 Now, a 200-pound man requires only fifteen cubic space of living quarters. 00:15:37.679 --> 00:15:41.840 Only 15 cubic feet of space required for a living man. 00:15:42.320 --> 00:15:48.559 There were 175 cubic feet for every individual animal and person on the Ark. 00:15:50.879 --> 00:15:59.759 Now the problem is further simplified when we consider that Noah may not have had to provide space for animals, not uh uh on on their own. 00:15:59.840 --> 00:16:03.679 There are, as we mentioned earlier in our last lesson, there are insects. 00:16:04.399 --> 00:16:10.720 There are insects which could have lived on the very backs of some of the larger animals that were there. 00:16:11.440 --> 00:16:12.639 Isn't that something? 00:16:15.120 --> 00:16:21.200 Now it's it's incredible when you start thinking about these things. 00:16:22.000 --> 00:16:24.080 How many true species were there? 00:16:25.200 --> 00:16:50.879 Well, the only comprehensive natural history survey which was made uh by someone who tried his very, very best to study out, trace back the various mutations and so forth, and come up with a conservative estimate of the number of kinds of animals that would be living in Noah's day, was done by Dr. 00:16:50.960 --> 00:16:52.480 Howard Osgood. 00:16:53.440 --> 00:17:09.839 He found that there were just five hundred and seventy-five varieties of mammals and birds between the size of a mouse and the size of a sheep, and two hundred and ninety varieties between the size of a sheep and the size of a camel. 00:17:12.079 --> 00:17:14.160 Now, food they had in 00:17:28.000 Wait a minute. 00:17:28.480 --> 00:17:34.400 Who told you that that Noah took fully grown animals on the Ark? 00:17:34.480 --> 00:17:36.559 I know it makes for an exciting picture. 00:17:37.119 --> 00:17:42.480 But in in one year's time, the larger mammals, yes, I'll grant you they grow. 00:17:42.720 --> 00:17:55.200 But if you took, for example, if you took a baby, a a brand newborn baby uh calf, a pair of calves, in one year they would still be far from full grown. 00:17:55.440 --> 00:17:59.359 Same with the elephant, same with the camel, same with the horse, and so forth. 00:18:00.480 --> 00:18:11.039 Now, food they had in plenty, it is evident that they would have uh no meat diet, as in Genesis the diet of all is given as the same, a vegetarian fare exclusively. 00:18:11.440 --> 00:18:29.440 Genesis 129 and 30, God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for food, and to every or for meat, and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth wherein there is life. 00:18:29.599 --> 00:18:32.799 I have given him every green herb for meat, and it was so. 00:18:33.920 --> 00:18:38.480 Now, after the flood, this law was changed, and flesh was eaten. 00:18:38.880 --> 00:18:44.160 But up to the time of the flood, this law is not violated, as far as the biblical record is concerned. 00:18:44.400 --> 00:19:01.039 Now, you say, Brother James, I don't believe that you could take an animal like a lion, and it could be eating grass, and then all of a sudden it could change and begin to eat meat, and then when Jesus comes again, as the Bible prophesies regarding his millennial kingdom, that it would go back to eating straw again. 00:19:01.440 --> 00:19:06.799 Well, if you if you don't believe that, you certainly have never been in a church where people get truly saved and born again. 00:19:07.119 --> 00:19:14.720 Well, I've known men to feed on liquor all their lives, and then get saved and suddenly begin to drink water. 00:19:16.160 --> 00:19:17.279 How about that? 00:19:17.920 --> 00:19:25.599 I've known people that have lived on cocaine and heroin, and get saved and born again, suddenly begin to live on decent food. 00:19:27.279 --> 00:19:30.640 You see, God can can change the appetite. 00:19:31.839 --> 00:19:33.119 He certainly can. 00:19:35.599 --> 00:19:43.039 Now, in The Canopied Earth by Kellogg, he writes about a physical and scientific reason for the change to meat. 00:19:43.519 --> 00:19:46.720 But Noah's problem in provision in the Ark was a simple one. 00:19:47.119 --> 00:19:49.759 That he had plenty of food we can readily see. 00:19:50.000 --> 00:19:59.359 And when we remembered that he had a hundred and twenty years in which to prepare this food, by most estimates, uh there's no problem there at all. 00:20:00.079 --> 00:20:05.359 Now a very wise and learned woman once said, How was the Ark ventilated? 00:20:05.440 --> 00:20:07.039 I've always worried about that. 00:20:07.279 --> 00:20:12.240 There were all those animals and men, and only one little window way up in the roof, how did they breathe? 00:20:12.480 --> 00:20:14.160 Now that's a good question. 00:20:14.960 --> 00:20:24.079 Skepticism has often used this apparent weakness in the structure of the ark as an opportunity to point the finger of derision and raise the cry of improbability whenever the ark is mentioned. 00:20:24.319 --> 00:20:28.640 In a debate on the scientific infallibility of Genesis, Dr. 00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:33.519 Cantrell ignorantly stated that the Ark was hermetically sealed. 00:20:33.839 --> 00:20:35.519 The Bible doesn't say that. 00:20:35.759 --> 00:20:40.559 If you read the Bible text carefully, you'll see two lines of thought that we ought to consider. 00:20:41.200 --> 00:20:44.240 Of course, the exact method of ventilation is not given in detail. 00:20:44.400 --> 00:20:48.559 This is a record of tremendous events, and as such does not deal with small details. 00:20:48.960 --> 00:20:52.799 It's strange, the Ark of Noah wasn't as important to God as the Ark of the Covenant. 00:20:53.039 --> 00:21:00.960 This vessel in which all of humanity and all living breathing things dwelt was not as important as the tabernacle. 00:21:01.200 --> 00:21:03.839 It's funny what God considers important, isn't it? 00:21:04.160 --> 00:21:17.599 But um this uh history of great battles in the Bible, they don't bother themselves with the fit of the soldier's clothes or whether their shoes fasten with laces or buttons, such variety of minor detail. 00:21:17.759 --> 00:21:21.440 Only the main facts are given, and that's true in the case of Noah's Ark. 00:21:21.759 --> 00:21:24.240 We have the dimensions of the Ark and the shape. 00:21:24.559 --> 00:21:27.440 But let's look at the simple details of the actual construction. 00:21:27.599 --> 00:21:29.039 It contains a direction. 00:21:29.279 --> 00:21:36.000 A window shalt thou make in the ark, and to a cubit thou shalt finish it upward. 00:21:36.319 --> 00:21:37.200 Finish what? 00:21:37.599 --> 00:21:39.200 The window of the ark. 00:21:39.519 --> 00:21:47.920 Now, if the window is to be finished up to a cubit, that probably means it ran the length of the ark to within a cubit of the end. 00:21:48.400 --> 00:21:50.720 That would be quite some ventilation. 00:21:51.200 --> 00:21:56.240 If the words finish it refer to the ark itself, we have somewhat the same result. 00:21:56.559 --> 00:22:04.960 If the walls of the ark are finished up to a cubit, that will lead to the An open ventilator all the way around the arc, twenty two and a half inches wide. 00:22:05.200 --> 00:22:14.240 In either case, we have an open ventilator providing two thousand four hundred and sixty square feet of airspace, plenty for sanitation. 00:22:30.880 --> 00:22:38.319 Now don't think that the modern sanitary engineer could add to the structure of the Ark, for while the builder was Noah, the architect and designer
