Real Time Creator | A Laid Off, Career Break Diary
I spent years chasing success and money while shelving my creative dreams. I was a $200K+ earner in tech and a secret weapon inside of a 7-figure creator business. Then I got laid off from my tech job, and EVERYTHING changed.
I decided to take my severance, divide it into 12 equal installments, and give myself a minimum 1 YEAR career break and creative sabbatical to reinvent my life.
I'm Alison Kinsey, and each week I share a raw and unfiltered glimpse into my career break, money transparency after getting laid off, and the messy work of creative reinvention. I also share the stories of other inspiring women who have built a portfolio career after a career pivot.
If you've been asking yourself, "is this IT for my life?!" this is your weekly voice note to inspire you through the in-between.

Paying Attention to My Energy Is CHANGING My Career Break!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
My energy is giving me WAY more information than my to-do lists ever did.
What happens when I stop forcing decisions and start collecting clues? I’m back from a 3-city trip and we’re covering it all: networking, my unexpected obsession at the Tampa RV Show, and a realization about commitment that caught me off guard.
There’s a clear thread in this episode: paying attention to what lights me up, what drains me, and what my body and mindset are trying to tell me.
In This Episode:
- Why I’m not forcing outcomes and focusing instead on patterns, surprises, and signals
- A simple, but powerful language shift from an Entrepreneur Success Series event that felt like a gut punch
- How walking 20,000 steps a day in San Francisco revealed some of my own self-imposed limits
