I see. Here in Philadelphia in particular, it was like micro bursts of storms yesterday. So we had like down power lines, the streets are flooded, cars are floating down the street. Um, trees have fallen on top of cars, people have lost electricity, and um our mayor, well, the mayor, um Sherelle Parker.

She is, yeah. She held a press conference last night, pretty much to like update people, and folks are going in, telling some, yeah, you spent those millions. I think it was like either 14 or 50, or was it 20 million dollars, whatever, on that 4th of July celebration. Why can't you prioritize this? Like, you know, these storms are no jokes. I see New Orleans is up underwater, New Jersey has been up underwater again. Um, after kind of recovering from that week, you know, prior of being underwater. So it's it's just a lot going on, Rufus. So we'll just send them white light and joy.

Yeah, and you you think about it, you know, behind every headline. It's a grieving family sometimes, um, these types of headlines, and hopefully the family continues receiving support. And it just kind of takes me to before we got on here, I saw this. Um, there was a snippet where Angela Rye kind of stood in defense of Andrew Gilliam, who unfortunately um has, you know, okay, had a scandals, a big scandal, the more recent scandal that happened early. I think it was July 2nd, it was right before Essence, but you know, the clip that the Jasmine brand had posted was, you know, oh, you know, this is painful. You all have to realize, you know, when you go on social media and these blogs, write these posts up, that it's not Andrew. He's not looking at any of this, however, but his his wife and children are. And so, you know, we talked about family as it relates to even Nolan Wells, you know, seeing certain things on headlines, but just being kind of sensitive to that. But um, you know, again, best wishes to Nolan Wells' family, um, as well as, you know, since I've kind of spoken about Andrew Gilliam, you know, um, best wishes to him in that particular situation as well.

I agree, and this is why empathy is important because you never know what somebody's going through. Yeah. I'm sure he has some type of some kind of issues going on in his life. So, you know, well wishes to him and his family.

Yeah, absolutely. And it makes me think back to it was like 20, what was that, 2022 when Chris Brown had an incident or something and everybody went in on Kelly Rowland's T. Well, I forgot which one it was.

Yeah, it was it was something happened. Whatever happened in 2022, but I remember Kelly Rowland saying, you know, everybody deserves grace. Absolutely. Um, and a lot of vloggers, bloggers bashed her about that by even having compassion, even for him. And I just sit and think, I'm like, well, we all have fucked up ass relatives, and some of us ourselves are fucked up.

Because we believe how dare us sit there, you know, in judgment of another person. So and and and speaking of that, let's just go on and slide into this next story. And I think this is like yeah, um, sports piece that we would have here. One thing that dominates the headlines, Rufus, that you heard me. I wasn't laughing, but it was like, wow, you know, um the Marcellus Wiley and Anne Marie story. I don't, you're not, you never watched Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but I know she had a stint on there. I think maybe Garcell's second season, so this could have been 2021. Because I feel like Garcelle came on during COVID or something, somewhere around that time. But but the the former NFL player um in sports comment Taylor has pretty much uh he's got multiple uh felony and sexual assault charges, you know, that he's currently facing. Now he's pleaded not guilty and denies the allegations, but his wife and Marie continues, you know, she had publicly supported him, but it wasn't until recent that shit came down on her, and somehow I think TMZ reported that he held something like to her jaw, like the poker. We don't know if it was a knife, whatever the situation was. But um when you think about these spouses and how she defended him before, I think he had some rape allegations at some point. It could have been from college, not against her, but it was against him. Um and she defended him then going into that that show, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or whatnot. But um, you know, I'm not married, you're not married, but where do you think the line is drawn as it relates to supporting your spouse publicly? And this is kind of even piggybacking off of um, you know, thinking about Andrew Gillam and and and Jay, his wife, who was at Essence Fest, still, you know, supporting him in light of what hadn't come to the public's eye of him being arrested in Alabama.

Well, I'll say this. I'm I'm not like you just said, I'm not married. So I think it's a personal choice. Whatever you decide to do in your marriage with your spouse, if y'all talk about it, agree on it, then the line is wherever y'all needed to be. I don't have any, you know, any input on that. So I I it's a personal choice. If you decide to support your husband who was abusive, or your wife who was abusive, or your spouse who was abusive, then that's your choice. And I don't have uh, you know, a dog in that fight.

And of course, we with anything and all of these stories, well, these two and three at this particular point, um, you just want to let the legal process play out. You know, I'm playing catch-up, but I've I've been on small planes, but never a seaplane.

Shout out to Amichi. Um and and Cal. Yeah. So this seaplane took an emergency landing in New York City in the East River. And, you know, we definitely want to shout out the pilot for doing that safely. And everyone on board, they did survive, right? And the emergency crews were able to respond. Now, Rufus, you know, this could have ended much differently. You know, have you ever had an emergency landing situation? I know they say do this, do this, put your head down.

I have not, and I hope I never do, but I have had a situation, well, two situations I can talk about. I was landing in Barcelona, Spain years ago, and the plane got struck by lightning two times. That was that was interesting. Okay. Uh, but they just kept right on flying. But planes are designed to take lightning strikes. Another thing that happened is this happened to me twice as well. Uh, one time, I don't remember where I was landing there, but they had to do a go-around. Uh I don't remember why. And then a few years ago, we were landing in Egypt in Cairo, and the plane did a go-around as well. But that doesn't mean that there was uh something wrong. Well, maybe it does. Maybe not necessarily, but that happened. Um, I've never had an emergency landing, and I hope and well, I don't pray, but I hope and hope and hope that it never happens because I I don't want to experience that.

Have you experienced an emergency landing?

You know, it wasn't an emergency landing, it was an actual go-around, and it was it was in ATL. Don't know where the hell I was going, but at some point in my life, I figured well, everything when you live in the South for the most part, depending on which city you connect in Atlanta. And so I just remember we were descending, and then all of a sudden it was a nighttime flight, too. So, you know, at that point you can't see anything. We zip right back up, right? Yep. And the pilot comes all jovial, but yet this gruntle over the the um the system and says, Wow, yeah, air traffic control cleared us to land, but there was already a plane on the runway. Oh, so we had to go back up. Just imagine we just wasted half a million dollars of fuel. That's the part where I got pissed off because you're talking about fuel. Motherfucker, you almost killed us. Well, you saved us, but you almost, you know, it was just you're talking about fuel as if it comes out of your check.

We diverted to um Monterey, Mexico, which is in northern Mexico. Because we were coming from Cancun. And I guess it was storms here in Dallas, and they said, Oh, the storms are too bad we can't land, so we gotta go back to Mexico. And our I'll never forget you talking about Whitney Houston was on that plane because Wendy Houston had just died. This is what, 2009 or 2009? Show how long I've been knowing you, which is a long motherfucking time. But yeah, that was funny. Well, it wasn't funny, but you shouldn't tell me that story. It wasn't it, I mean, I you I tell the truth.

Um well, federal investigators, of course, are gonna determine what caused an emergency. So, and while we're in New York, what has dominated? I woke up with this. This was Saturday, it was Friday night or either early Saturday morning. Um Jay-Z and Beyonce. This is our economy section, too.

So I woke up Saturday morning, and I think either it was on Instagram or either it was on Twitter, and I just see Beyonce singing the Mary J. Blige's part to I can't even remember the song. Um, but yeah, Jay-Z is performing three nights at Yankee Stadium. He's doing a residency there. I was, you know, read that it was sold out, and this is celebrating his 30th anniversary um of his Reasonable Doubt album. Reasonable doubt. Reasonable album. Yeah, yeah. That's the one that's on vinyl with Target. Um, and he's also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the blueprint. Now, I remember the blueprint.

Yeah, yeah, I remember the blueprint. And so Beyonce surprised fans by joining him on stage. And so while it was a Jay-Z concert, man, everybody saw Beyonce. She was the headliner, and somehow I I guess she's in it's not a uh hairstylist now because she cut his hair in the stadium. Yeah, she cut his head. I guess so.

And it's interesting now because we've heard of potential money woes, specifically with Jay-Z, and New York City wanting to open up their casino. But I think Nas is the one that got approved for the bid. But they were saying how he Jay-Z he mortgaged or took out $50 million against their LA home. Um, so it it's a lot. We think about money, you know, we hear that they don't even live in the United States anymore, um, that they're over in in London. And so it's just a lot with them. And I think even Blue Ivy was on stage too. So everybody's working, the whole family. Yeah, the whole family is working, the whole family. And and speaking of Beyoncé, I don't know if you saw this, but this shit just took me out. A Ugandan general wants Beyonce.

And so those comments just quickly went viral. And so a lot of people are joking and debating. And so only Jay-Z and Beyonce can become an international conversation to a regard.

So he sat down with with Maddie on the Outlaws podcast, and pretty much he addressed where people were saying, Hey, you know, you're only wealthy because of Beyonce. And Matthew said, fuck that. You know, he and Tina, his then wife, you know, were already millionaires before Beyonce even became famous. And excuse me, he said multi-millionaires. I'm not sure. Not the multi-millionaires. And he said, you know, they they already had successful careers in business as well before that. So, Rufus, you know, why do you think people assume successful parents only become successful because of their children?

Because we didn't know them before their their kids were famous. We didn't know Matthew Nose before Beyonce and Destiny's child. So people just naturally assume that, oh, he worked at wherever he worked at him. And then then people have a misconception that if you work a job, then you're not making money. I'm sure he was an I think he was an executive in some company. Which executives make Zero? I don't remember. I know executives, some executives make, especially if you're a C-level executive, they make boatloads of money. So, but you know, people just people just always assume shit, and they may or may not have the right facts or information to make a correct assumption. So that's why we shouldn't assume shit.

Yeah. Well, shout out to Matthew Knowles. Of course, he's trying to change the narrative, and he's pretty much laying out that entrepreneurship did exist in that household long before Destiny Child. He's filed an $18 million lawsuit against Sony, and that lawsuit centers around royalties and ownership rights. So um another reminder that intellectual power property, excuse me, um, is a uh a big business. And so, Rufus, we've talked about athletes protecting their money. Artists have to protect their catalogs too.

Absolutely. Um I feel like the music industry is fucked up because everybody is always suing somebody in the music industry over royalties or or masters or something. I'm like, what's going on in the music industry? I feel like it's it's just it's a lot of shit going on over there. So I hope he gets his money from Sony because they got it to give. So give it to him.

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. So yeah. And music catalogs, we know they increase in value. So I'm thinking future sold his for um a few tens of millions. Um he sold his, but I think Anita Baker bought hers back. Lil Wayne helped her with that to buy hers back. We know Taylor Swift either she re-recorded or she couldn't buy hers back. I think Ariana Grande has gone through something like that. But um, yeah, yeah, very interesting. So when you think about publishing rights, you know, they remain one of the biggest, the industry's biggest um assets.

And I think that's I'm sorry, writers and producers make more money than the artists typically until they start touring. So yeah, publishing is you know, it's not as much as as lucrative as it used to be in like the early 90s and 80s, but yeah, that's where the money is in in the music world, along with touring.

And so they pretty much have been rebuilding their relationship, and neither of them have publicly confirmed this. Um now, Rufus, why do people stay so invested in Will and Jada?

Um, I this is what I think. I think there are you know, I hate that you maybe you don't know this, but I hate the term power couple. But I think people, specifically black people, look up to Jada and Will as a power couple. And that's why, just like um they the the Americans look up to the royals as, you know, whatever. So I think it's kind of along those same lines. Uh me personally, I don't give a fuck what Will and Jada do in their personal lives, to be honest, because it has nothing to do with me. But I think I think uh black people look up to them as a power couple, and they aspire to be like that because they've been together for like 30 some years. Yeah, and you know, I I for one don't think we need to know everything that's going on in their personal life. I don't know why this is in the news. Like she moved back with her husband, great, I don't care. Good for them, though. I think it uh, you know, I think it their people aspire to be like them, which is why I think they so embarrassing in them.

Yeah, I mean, had the whole outfits on. They were all set. And so, you know, while they're successful in their own rights, you know, I respect that. You know.
