Perfectionism often looks like having high standards, but more often it’s a way of trying to stay in control. And that quiet need for control can keep people stuck longer than they realize.

In this Monday Moment, Tania shares a simple idea that’s helped her break free from overthinking and waiting for certainty. She reflects on why motivation and confidence don’t come from having the full plan, but from taking action, even when the step feels messy or incomplete. This episode is a gentle nudge for anyone who’s been delaying something meaningful while waiting to feel ready.

You don’t need to see the whole path. One imperfect step is enough to begin, and momentum will meet you there.

Hello, friend, and welcome to this Monday moment. It is a really, really cold day in Buffalo, New York as I record this. So I hope you're staying warm wherever you are today. I wanna share an idea that's helped me more than probably anything else in the last year. And it's this take a step, and here's the critical part. Let it be imperfect. So much of the pressure we experience, the pressure that stresses us out or stops us from acting, comes from this belief that we need to know not only what the next right step is, but we need to know how to do it perfectly and we need to know how it's all gonna work out before we move. I can confidently tell you that if I had shifted this belief years ago, my life would look completely different today. Now, I'm not saying that my life is bad, and this certainly isn't about regret, but truthfully, I've spent a lifetime forfeiting freedom, creative expression, and the joy that comes from forward momentum in order to feel safe in that stagnant comfort of familiarity. So if you can relate. Let me remind you that today is Monday and it's a clean slate for a new choice. And I'm here to tell you that progress does not require full clarity. It doesn't require confidence or a complete plan, and it certainly doesn't require perfection. Now, I'm speaking to the part of you that believes perfection is simply holding a high standard. From my experience, I can tell you that it's something entirely different. The need to do things perfectly, that's a control strategy, and it's based on a lie. Okay, based on the idea that control will give us certainty, but what it actually gives us is waiting, thinking, overthinking, and eventually just staying stuck because we start to believe that certainty is required before we're allowed to move. And that once we're certain, well, we'll finally feel motivated. We'll finally have the confidence that whatever we create will work out the way we hope. But here's the truth, what actually moves us forward is action. And specifically messy action, one imperfect step followed by another. When we take a step, even a very small step, we get a boost from the progress itself, not from the outcome. Momentum comes after action, not before. As they say, you can't drive a parked car. And I would actually say that clarity also comes after action and not before. And really the only way to know whether your next step is the right one is to take it. Your environment gives you feedback, and you can course correct if necessary. I've mentioned this before and I'll say it again. The only reason you're listening to this podcast today is because someone encouraged me and gave me permission to be imperfect in sharing my voice with the world, and I accepted that permission and ran with it, and it's been a lot of fun. And it's been a lot of discomfort all at the same time. And this is the most important part, though, the decision to move forward imperfectly is the one decision that ensured I didn't go another year sitting with the intention of creating a podcast someday, because here's the thing, possibility only exists in this moment, and the invitation in this moment. Is to choose between love and fear. And by love I mean taking a step that honors your desires, your inspiration, your curiosity, your calling, your needs, not tomorrow, not next week, today. And I get that the things that we procrastinate on aren't usually easy. They're often things that feel risky. It's the conversation with your boss. It's the first few sentences of that book that you dream of writing. It's getting to the gym when it's so cold outside that your eyelids could freeze if you forget to blank, or the initial steps towards creating anything that you care about without having any clue how you're going to make the whole thing happen. These things are important. So here's the question for today. What is one micro step you could take? Accepting that it's okay to be imperfect, knowing that you won't fully be in control, but trusting that it will move you forward. You don't need to see the whole path. You don't need a strategy for the next three months. All you need is to follow the curiosity or the commitment in your heart and. To let that small step be enough. Momentum will meet you there. Cheers.
