Mia didn’t have her mic on so I had to fix this one. This episode discusses the terror and mystery behind the doll people love to fear.

SPEAKER_03

Hi everyone, I'm Vera. I'm Mia. And we are Spectral Homicide. Um, Mia, you want to do your album of the day real quick?

SPEAKER_01

I do. I very much do. Um, there's no sound in the background right now because um our power's out while we're recording this.

SPEAKER_03

As a matter of fact, 99.9% of our town has no power currently. Yeah, my film's gonna like die. So rip.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, the album of the day is Tropical Sun by Fulci. Fulci formed in in Camp Campania, Italy in 2013. Their name originates from Italian horror icon Lucio Fulci. In my opinion, they are one of the greats in in terms of the new wave of modern-day death metal, along with Frozen Soul Damn, Frozen Soul, Tomb Mold, and other 20 bucks spin bands. Taylor, Taylor, Taylor, Taylor! Knock it off. Okay. Um, I don't really have much else to do or say about Bolty. Because you can't play the music. Yeah, because I can't, but I have the CD with me.

SPEAKER_03

So okay. Well, I'm gonna let Taylor say hi real quick.

unknown

Hi.

SPEAKER_03

And now Taylor's gonna go to bed because she's not gonna want to hear this episode.

SPEAKER_00

I have headphones on.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, well, you're still gonna go. Go. Alright. So get the fuck out of here. So today we're gonna talk about Annabelle and some of the history behind the Annabelle doll and some of the like situations and everything. Um, as it turns out, the original Annabelle, everybody's you know, from the movies that they they see the porcelain doll. It's actually not a porcelain doll. The original Annabelle doll is a raggedy and doll. Um, it was created in 1915 by American writer and illustrator Johnny Gruell. I could be saying this wrong. He designed the smiling red yarn haired doll for his daughter Marcella, who had found a faceless rag doll in her grandmother's attic. Now, here's the deal: there's conflicting stories about who found the doll. Was it her, was it him, blah, blah, blah. Nobody knows. Um, either way, what happens is he ends up taking the doll and attaching red hair to it and creating a face for it to cheer his daughter up because she was sick. Um, she actually had an illness due to complications to a um smallpox vaccination. So, what he did was he would tell stories about her and this doll that would get into trouble all the time. Uh, when she passed away, he turned those stories into books. Um, later on, he created uh Raggedy Andy in 1920 to kind of join in the fun. So that's that's where that came from. Um now, this is where the Annabelle part comes into it. So in 1970, a nursing student named Donna, um, often identified as Donna Haworth in historical lore, was given the infamous and the Annabelle doll by her mother. Um, so her mom found it in a hobby store and gave it to her as a birthday gift, which by the way, I was like, why the fuck would you get okay? I'm not here to judge, right? I am. So um, so basically, like in the beginning, you know, Annabelle and her roommate, um, Angie, would like, you know, pretend that the doll had like, you know, to kind of have fun with it, they would like move the doll around the house and play pranks on each other. And then they started to notice like a lot of weird things about it. Um, like the first thing is it would like change positions or cross its legs on the couch. Um, sometimes they would leave it in one room and it would be in another room when they'd get back. Um, in the beginning, they thought it was just each other pranking each other, but then they started to kind of connect the dots when like somebody would be on a trip and something would happen and they'd come back. Like one day they left it on the couch when they came back, it was in Donna's room and the door was shut. Um then they started finding like weird notes around the house on parchment paper, which they didn't actually have in the home. And it would say stuff like help us or help Lou. Well, Lou was Angie, the roommate's boyfriend, and they thought that was kind of creepy. Well, one day, Donna came home and she found blood on the hands of her doll and drops on his chest. Three drops of blood on the chest. Oh, I forgot to say that the handwriting on the parchment paper that was saying help us and help Lou was child handwriting. Um, so they call weird. Isn't it? Isn't it? It was fucking bizarre. So then what happens? They call a psychic, right? And the psychic comes in and they do a seance with Angie, Lou, and Donna, right? And the doll. And so then what happens? The the doll or the psychic, who was actually full of shit, um, says that the doll was actually inhabited by a little girl named Annabelle Higgins, who had died on the property years before, right? And that the little girl was lonely, and that she wanted permission to be with the doll so that way she could play with the Donna and her friends, right?

SPEAKER_01

So calling the doll Annabelle is like dead naming her? Pretty much, yeah. Oh, that's like calling me Maya.

SPEAKER_03

Well, because they said it was like um, yeah, I mean they said it was a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

So that's not her name. No, that is so fucking funny.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, it gets really fucking weird. So then what happens is, you know, the nursing student says, Oh, well, you know, that's why I want to be a nurse, I want to help people, and so she gives Annabelle Higgins. Wait, so do they know the original name of what the little girl called her doll?

SPEAKER_01

No, so they don't know the demon's name. That's why nobody can control it. They didn't know it was a demon. Okay, yeah, but like that nobody knows its name, that's why they can't control it.

SPEAKER_03

They didn't yeah, so I mean so Annabelle Higgins wasn't a real person.

SPEAKER_01

No, I know. But that that's a fake name that they gave the demon, and when they're trying to like exercise it or control it, they can't.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that's name. That's the name that yeah, exactly. That's the name that the demon gave them.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, I guess, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So that they the the That's a fake name. Don't ever trust the name given to you by a demon.

SPEAKER_03

Or any kind of spirit because you don't know if it's a demon.

SPEAKER_01

They're such fake or faker booty shakers.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, really, you can't fucking listen to him, and honestly, like, don't trust anything they fucking say.

SPEAKER_01

You get you get what I'm saying, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I totally get what you're saying. But it was crazy because it was like, so when they did the seance, you know, the psychic said, Well, the little girl was seven years old, and her name was Annabelle Higgins, and she died on that property years before they lived there. And so then they felt sorry for it, and they said, Well, yeah, you can you can come live in the doll, you know. Well, then weird shit started happening, right?

SPEAKER_01

So then um survival instincts of a fucking cucumber.

SPEAKER_03

And they just I I mean, honestly, that they didn't know that shit back then. Nobody fucking knew anything about that, you know. So then what happens is a lot of fucking creepy shit starts happening, like, but not to Donna, not to Angie, to Lou. Right? So one day he was fucking sleeping, right? And he was had this fucking horrible fucking dream that Annabelle was choking him, right? And like he woke up and the doll was like climbing up his leg, and you know, he was like, What the fuck? He thought he was dreaming.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing to get all choked up over.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I know, right? And so then, like dramatic, he was like, dude, like this there this is fucking not happening, you know. He didn't take it serious, and then the fucking doll like hurled herself at him and started choking him, but it was so fucking stupid. Exactly. Well, because it was a faker, it was a demon, a raggedy and doll of all fucking things, like just ripped shit open. The least fucking threatening thing that you could fucking think of is the hideous fucking yarn doll.

SPEAKER_01

It's like getting mauled by a little golden retriever puppy.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I mean, it was just like, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Are you joking?

SPEAKER_03

Like by a Yorkie.

SPEAKER_01

That's so preventable.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, speaking of maul. By a pug, Iker's how would that even work? Yeah, it wouldn't. So then what happened is because they went outside in the storm. Stop it. So then she fucking uh so then like he fucking freaks out. He's like, oh my god, you know, and like he had these fucking marks all over his neck, and like Donna and them were like, you're full of shit because when they got back, he was like, The fucking doll tried to kill me, and they're like, No, they didn't, you know.

SPEAKER_01

I would have thought he was full of shit too. It's a raggedy and doll. Yeah, like who what kind of a doll, like little intention was there? Yeah, but like, dude, maybe the real demon is the raggedy ants that we had along the way. The stitches on raggedy and dolls fucking suck. You could just tear that open. Even a kid could do that.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, the original raggedy tear up fabric dolls. I mean, not back then. Like, I remember I had a raggedy and doll, but like and and it did it have any holes in it? No. No, but I told you.

SPEAKER_01

I don't mean that in a freaky way. I mean that in like a it ripped really.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I don't kink shame.

SPEAKER_01

I do. My kink is kink shame.

SPEAKER_03

So then like they're like, no fucking way, whatever. But I mean they started to kind of be concerned when they started to notice things like more things were happening, like they'd hear something get slammed, they'd go in the room, Annabelle would be the only thing in the room, and the doll would be in a different position.

SPEAKER_01

Oh fuck no, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So they started to notice, like nobody thought to get rid of it. Well, right, hang on, hang on, here comes, here comes. So Lou goes in, you know, Lou and Angie are home one night, and all of a sudden they hear something crash in Donna's room. Well, Donna's not home. So Lou and Angie go into Donna's room, and Annabelle was in there, and he went to go pick her up, and all of a sudden he felt something burning on his arm, looks down, seven fucking slashes on his arm. Seven fucking slashes. And like it like showed up on his arm instantly. He's like grabbing. Did you just fucking fart this dog? He's scared. It's just wrong.

SPEAKER_01

Stink.

SPEAKER_03

He doesn't like it. So then um, you can sleep in my room if you don't fart. Yeah, he can't promise that. So then like Angie looks because she saw it too, and she's like, What the fuck? I saw I saw it too. Like, there's no way he's making it up. So, you know, it happened again, you know, but this time it was like on his chest. And so then they call the Catholic Church, right? So when the Cov when they call the Catholic Church, they send over the priest called Father Hegan, right? Who then directs them to like Higgins? Like, it's either Hegan or Hegan, I don't know. It's H-E-G-A-N, right? So then what happens is he's like, mmm, dolls aren't really my shit, you know? And he's like, call Father Cook.

SPEAKER_01

So probably has survival instinct.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's like, dude, this is right. That fucking dog. So then um she fucking, so she, you know, he calls Father Cook, Father Cook comes over, right? And then he's like, and now in the movie, Annabelle, Father Cook is Father Perez, right? Who was played by Tom Tommy Tony and then Dola, I don't know, I can't remember handwriting, but regardless, he fucking picks up the doll, right? And he starts to fucking take it back to the church, right? Because he's like, I'm gonna contact people that can deal with this. You know, obviously he was gonna contact, you know, Ed and Lorraine Warren, but his, you know, he kept having like issues with the car on the way back. Like he almost got into an accident and all this other shit. Um oh no, wait, he did get into an accident. He didn't die, he was paralyzed. And then Ed and Lorraine Warren, they come and get the doll. Um and their car stalls, their brakes fail, their power steering goes out, and they almost got um hit by a train.

SPEAKER_01

So nobody thought just burn the damn thing.

SPEAKER_03

Well, but that's not gonna get rid of it. That's the problem. So, you know, when Ed and Laura and they pull over, they freaking say some prayers over Annabelle, they doused her with holy water, right?

SPEAKER_04

That's not gonna do anything.

SPEAKER_03

And then um there's like people, now there's this whole thing where people are like, you know, there's they said that there's a lack of primary accounts of uh Donna, Angie, or Lou, but they say that they've only heard the story with this perspective from the Warrens, and they're like, well, why? Well, the reason why is because after all that shit happened with Anna, Angie, Donna, and Lou, they were like, dude, I don't want anybody fucking contacting me. They just wanted to want to move on with their lives. You gotta think, these are like mid-20s people, you know. They're just like, fuck this shit, man. I don't want anybody contacting me. I don't want anybody talking to me, right? So they wanted their privacy and they distanced themselves from the media. They never did any televised interviews or signbook deals or participated publicly surrounding the Warrens Occult Museum. Now, um, another thing is they could be under pseudonyms, you know, and they may actually, that might not even be their real mate, real names, but those were given to them by the Warrens to protect them and to help them, you know, hide from all the media. So another issue that people have is the Warrens themselves, right? Because they say that the Warrens are like scam artists and that they were just capitalizing off these people who are vulnerable. But the issue is they didn't charge for any of these. I wouldn't have. Yeah, well, and I mean in this economy, you're so funny. I mean, but seriously, it's like they don't charge people for dealing with these things.

SPEAKER_01

Well, they don't anymore.

SPEAKER_03

You know, because they're dead. Well, no, because it's because they're dead. They actually make money off of lectures, you know.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, they were teachers, right?

SPEAKER_03

Well, actually, he was an artist. Oh, so he's not making any money. Like, they weren't really making money. So, but they they made, you know, they made money off of like um books and like, you know, their fucking classes and stuff that they taught, lectures that they taught about that. So he's recognized as a demonologist by the Catholic Church, but they won't say he's a demonologist. And his wife's clairvoyant. And people like, oh well, the Catholic Church, blah blah blah. Bullshit, dude. The Catholic Church doesn't work hand in hand with people like that. You can't sit there and say that the Warrens weren't fucking legitimate demonologists and able to fucking deal with this stuff if the Catholic Church was dealing with them, because they don't get involved in shit like that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's like I mean, if it were anybody to recognize it, it would be the Catholic Church because the Catholic Church recognizes that witchcraft is mentioned in the Bible and that like Jesus consulted a seer. Well, like Jesus consulted a clairvoyant.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so and here's the deal.

SPEAKER_01

They say someone did, I don't remember.

SPEAKER_03

People are like, oh, you know, they just you know they exaggerate all their stuff and everything else, and you know, blah blah blah, and they capitalize off of people's suffering and this and that.

SPEAKER_01

But here's the deal if demon if demonic entities are exaggerated, how did I get a red hand print on my shoulder?

SPEAKER_03

That's what I'm saying. You know, we know these things exist, we've encountered them, but not only that, but Ed and Ed and Lorraine Warren have documented over 10,000 cases of investigations that they have done and and demons that they've encountered.

SPEAKER_01

I'm so surprised they lived as long as they did.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, absolutely. But here's the deal like you're gonna sit there and tell me that these people were fucking scam artists when they didn't talk about all 10,000 of the things that they fucking did. No, there was literally like three or four or five, six, seven movies that they did that, you know, have anything to do with what Edn Lorraine Warren did.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, sorry, off topic. I forgot to show you. Look at the earrings Darby gave me.

SPEAKER_03

Those are adorable. Those are adorable. So, anyways, um so now they start, you know, they start talking about like um, you know, they said that the the movie The Conjuring, they're like portrayed as, you know, selfless heroes, but actually they weren't even like supposed to be at that house. Like that was actually supposed to be like a different group of people when they were asked to leave, but whatever. Fuck those, fuck those guys. So um, but the Amineyville horror, this is the one that um people are like, oh, this was a financial scam, you know. But like seriously, that's even but that one's like this that one was disproven as a scam as well. Like, there's a whole bunch of people that are like I haven't seen that one. Oh god, it's so good. I mean, and so bad. So the Amityville horror is about like this house that was purchased by the Lutz family. Whoa!

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, I just saw really cool lightning outside.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I saw yellow lightning earlier. I've never seen that before.

SPEAKER_01

I see purple all the time here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but I saw yellow and I literally thought something was on fire. So the Lutz family bought this house in Amityville and it was like horribly haunted, right? Well, it used to be a funeral home. Yeah. So, but what had happened there before was um William Weber, who was the dense of who was the defense attorney for uh Ronald DeFeau Jr., who actually lived there at the time, well, lived there before the Lutz family. He murdered six members of his family. I have seen that. Yeah, on uh November 13th, 1974. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well that see they they bought the house. I won that one.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it was a cheap house. No fucking nobody thinks in these fucking cases, because like you really think a house that big and that cheap doesn't have something wrong with it.

SPEAKER_03

There is that.

SPEAKER_01

Dude, these people are stupid.

SPEAKER_03

They really are. Um, but you know, they were they say that like I wouldn't end up in that same situation. I mean, we've lived in several the fact is is that, and this is another thing, people like you know, they were wrong when they said every house is haunted, blah blah blah.

SPEAKER_01

They totally are.

SPEAKER_03

But here's the deal: it's not the house, it's not the structure, it's the land. The land has that residual energy, energy, and resid the residual energy can be awakened by energy from people that they're attracted to and they can choose to communicate with them. But there's a difference between residual energy and spirits.

SPEAKER_01

Because like her husband's shop that it was just built, like freshly built. This it's barely even it's not even a year old. It is so fucking haunted. It is so haunted. I remember the other day I was working in the front desk and I was the only person there, right? So fucking scary. I don't know. I just did it in the in the main room. In like the garage. Did I go investigate? Fuck no. You're so funny. That ghost will throw a wrench at my head or something. Like, you're so funny. I've already got screws loose. I don't need that too. Yeah, I don't need a screwdriver to the forehead. I don't need an ice pick lobotomy.

SPEAKER_03

Well, the thing is, is like, you know, spirits are all around us, you know, whether it be a residual energy that is not like, you know, initiating contact or communication with you, but is just there because residual energy exists everywhere. You know, it's like the difference between spirits and residual energy is you could walk into a room and see something move, but it doesn't mean that it's a spirit that might just be, you know, the energy of that area just doing what it wants to fucking do. You could try to initiate contact, it doesn't mean they're gonna talk back. Now, a spirit, the difference is is when a spirit is trying to initiate contact with you or communicate with you in any way, they will continue to initiate contact or or try to make those communications with you until they are content with the fact that you either know what it is they're trying to tell you about, or you know, whatever. But I mean, and with a spirit, when they've latched onto you like that, it doesn't matter where you go, they're gonna follow you anyway. You know, it doesn't mean that they're glued to the property, they can literally go with you. I mean, that's you know, it just depends on how the energy wants to attach itself. So another thing that they said was that you know, the Warrens, you know, um made all this money and didn't give it to anybody. So the the Amneyville horror, you know, since it was based on the Lutz family experiences, you know, there was a lot of money made from that movie. And honestly, the Lutz family was given a lot of that money as well. So, yes, did Ed Lorraine Warren get some of the royalties? They absolutely fucking did. But for people to say that, you know, they were also, you know, taking that money from the families who were experiencing that is completely unfucking true. So, anyways, um, that's my high horse on that. Now, here's the part where it gets really fucking wild. Um and I think that uh I think I'm gonna there's a lot of a lot of controversy surrounding um Ed Lorraine Warren's family, which I think I might hold off on. Diving into because that is a whole nother bag of fucking tricks. Um, but what I will talk about is some of the experiences that people have had with Annabelle, the doll. So what makes this doll so fucking terrifying is the fact that since it is, you know, such a non-threatening thing, so a demon, the reason why, you know, they would choose something like that is because a doll is human in form, you know, and even though it's not an actual person, it's close to a person and has our character, our physical characteristics or whatever and everything else. So, you know, it's it's not far too far out of the realm of possibility that that's what they would go to. Like spirits can link on to certain items, they can link on to certain places, whatever it may be. But the fact remains is that you know, they're they like being able to have that ability to have some sort of a humanoid humanoid form. So um one of the things that happened with uh Annabelle is there was a priest who went to the Warren House and he had asked to see Annabelle and he picked up the doll and he said that she did not have any power, that she was just a stupid doll. And then he chucked her. Well, on the way home, that priest, oh, I got the priests mixed up. So the priest that actually got into a car accident was paralyzed, was not Father Cook or Father Hagen. Those were the two that did contact the Warrens. The priest that actually got paralyzed was the one who chucked Annabelle and got into a car accident and was paralyzed from that day forward. So um then there was another incident where a a guy came with his girlfriend and you know, she, you know, he was mocking the doll and making fun of her. And then they actually got well, yeah. The crazy thing is he was on a motorcycle, and then when they left, they got into an accident, and he died instantly, but she survived.

SPEAKER_01

Um almost like mocking something like a demon.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so it's like, and then there's the guys who took the doll on tour. Oh, you know, I mean, there's oh Matt Reif, that's his name too. Um, yeah, so Matt Reif, you know, he's decided to take this doll on tour and everything. And I was watching several accounts of people who have gone to these different things with Annabelle. There's this one lady who is like, yeah, they said that we could take selfies with it and blah, blah, blah. She goes, but what do you do? Do you smile? What I mean, it's a doll. And so she's mocking it and everything else too. But it's like, you know what? I think that it's very risky for people to just, you know, make jokes about this, considering the fact that it's like, you know, Ed and Ed and Lorraine Warren, like, they felt so strongly about the entity that in that inhabited this doll, that they literally built this super strong wooden and I don't, and it's not even glass, it's plexiglass, the case that she's in. And it was locked. And they put the Lord's Prayer and it was like in other um, they lined her her encave, her encasement with um holy artifacts, you know, and they also put, oh, what was it? It was the Lord's Prayer, so you know, our Father who art in heaven, for those of you that don't know that that's what that is. But then there was another one that they put in there, and I can't remember which one that is. I'll have to find it. I did write it down. I took so many notes. But like the fact is that when they took it in New Orleans, what was it? That was that was when that uh that plantation burned down, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and those prisoners escaped.

SPEAKER_03

Those prisoners escaped. I mean, all sorts of weird shit happened. I mean, it's like, you know, people can say it's coincidence all they want, too. But at the end of the day, like, there's been so many fucking things that that just she's just terrifying. I don't know. I mean, you could, you know, judge for yourself what you think, but you know, this is my thoughts. And and and you don't have to believe me, but here I am. So um they take Annabelle on tour, and then all this fucking horrible shit starts happening, and then there's one of the care keeps caregivers of Annabelle who was on a tour, and he was like 50 or something like that, and they found him in his hotel room dead. Now, he wasn't on that tour with her, but he had no known health problems before that happened. He was healthy, you know, but he was one of the people that you know was in charge of transporting her, and he was also one of the people that took her out of her original enclosure and put her in the new one, her travel enclosure. So, you know, the issue this is what I think.

SPEAKER_01

I wish I could have been a fly in the law of what happened there.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so here's here's the problem. So I have a theory about this Annabelle doll that they're taking on to her, you know, because all these people that are going to these little like you know, paranormal events and stuff like that, and they're like, oh, they said that we can take pictures with the doll. That's so fucking stupid, and nothing happened. I don't think that's the real one. I don't think it's the real one. I don't fucking think so. And here's why. Because they know Matt Reif knows that this is a major fucking liability, and they know that all this shit's been going south, you know, around this doll. And this doll was so fucking terrifying. Well, terrifying and dangerous that she was kept under constant supervision and lock and key.

SPEAKER_01

Can you imagine that being your job?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, right? And they said, and even the sign, there was even signs that said absolutely do not open this. Does anybody fucking listen? No, they do not. But I'm telling you right now, they're always white. That is not, you know, I mean, yeah. But I'm telling you right now, that is not the real Annabelle. The one that they're dragging around all over the damn country.

SPEAKER_01

Hell no. No, that's not the real placebo effect that they're getting haunted by.

SPEAKER_03

I can't you know, they're literally just capitalizing off of it and making all this money. But you know what? Those two little guys, that Elton guy or whatever his name is, and the other one, those two are now fucking battling over the property. So those guys were like thick as fucking thieves when this whole thing started, and now they can't fucking stand each other, and and they're in a legal agreement against each other. It's bad. You know, so you're gonna tell me that you don't take that shit serious?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's fucking weird.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, all I'm saying is, but I mean, all I know is that we have our own experience with dolls like that.

SPEAKER_01

We do.

SPEAKER_03

You know.

SPEAKER_01

I have my own. Um I don't really remember this super well, but I had this, um, I think I've talked about this on the show before, but um, I've had I had this like Cinderella doll when I was a kid, and she was like the size of a human infant.

SPEAKER_03

Was that a Cinderella or was it the Cinderella?

SPEAKER_01

Was it Elsa? It was Cinderella. Holy lightning, that was cool. Yeah. Um I'm watching the lightning while I say this. I'm gonna get Patty because she was refusing to come inside. Keep going, keep going. Okay. Um, I had taken the batteries out a while ago because it was creeping me and my cousin out. Because I was like eight or something when this happened. But I was having a sleepover with my cousins, and it was whoa. Um oh, flash flood warning, that's not good. Um, there's so many frogs outside, I keep getting distracted. But I was having a sleepover with my cousin, and she was getting really creeped out by it. And she woke me up in the middle of the night and she said, I swear to god, Mia. That thing just turned its head and looked at me. And I was like, Oh, and then I I was I took it with a grain of salt. But and then like a couple weeks later, I was sleeping alone and I saw it happen to me. Like it the doll turned its head to look at me. Like 180 degrees. It was fucking freaky. But and it would like talk in the middle of the night when nobody was saying anything to it or nobody was triggering it. I didn't know that you had all this those experiences with that. That's just that's that's just the one thing. Crazy, yeah. And like it would just something would trigger it, but nothing was nothing was doing it. I I swear to god. Um that samed also when I took the batteries out of it too, and it was still doing that shit.

SPEAKER_03

So the crazy thing is, is like Mia never told me about that. And so when It's easy to forget about. Yeah, I see that. I mean, I personally wouldn't have forgotten, but okay. You remember everything. I do remember everything, but like except my birthday. Well, if it makes you feel better, I forget mine too.

SPEAKER_01

You called me Rocky once. I it doesn't mean I didn't remember your name. You called me Rocky. Rocky was that was a dog. He was a very good dog. He was a very fat dog.

SPEAKER_03

So same doll kept it for a long time. I love that fucking thing. It was one of the coolest dolls I ever found. So I gave it to Taylor when she was older. And I always told you that thing was haunted. Yeah, yeah, but I didn't know that you actually had haunted experiences with it. Otherwise, I probably would have gotten rid of it.

SPEAKER_01

I told you about when Fina saw it turn its head 180 degrees. I just don't I don't know why. I don't that doesn't stand out to me.

SPEAKER_03

So I gave it to Taylor and when they were like, this thing was fucking expensive.

SPEAKER_01

You better love it.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, we were poor. Yeah, I get it. And that was a really cool doll.

SPEAKER_01

That really tickled me though.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay. I guess, I mean, I guess I probably might have said that that's something I would say. You would.

SPEAKER_01

Fair have.

SPEAKER_03

Fair yeah, yeah. This was fucking 50 bucks. You better love it. Dude, that doll was expensive, and you couldn't get them for a long time. That was like the you know what? That was like the Black Friday thing that people would trample each other over, and by the grace of God, I was able to get you one.

SPEAKER_01

And I was like, oh it only took trampling a family of four.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't trample anybody for it. I just somebody probably had it in their cart. I literally found it next to a damn crock pot because I was Black Friday shopping, and I turned my head, and there it was, and I was like, if you abandon it, it's not yours anymore. Well, I think they probably just decided not to get it. They probably got something else, like great.

SPEAKER_01

You just ordered them and put it down and it's Black Friday, it's not yours anymore.

SPEAKER_03

It was mine. Well, then it was yours, then it was Taylor's, and then one night my husband and I are sleeping, and I had a baby wander in Taylor's room, and I kept hearing the dog giggle. And I told him, I was like, Do you hear that? And he was like, What? And then he wakes up and he hears it.

SPEAKER_00

I had to have the batteries out ten years ago.

SPEAKER_03

I had no fucking idea. And I said, Babe, babe, do you hear that? And it goes, Bye bye. I was like, What the fuck? You're goddamn right, but then I got up and well then after that I made I grabbed Taylor and brought her into our room. And the next morning I told Mia about it, and she told me, she goes, Mom, that doll doesn't have batteries in it. I took out the batteries like 10 fucking years ago. And I was like, shut the fuck up. So then I go and I open the back of this doll, and there were no fucking batteries. That thing went in the fucking dumpster. I was like, oh my god. Yeah, you're so funny. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So um I had been t I had been telling you for years to just fucking get rid of it. I I know, I know. And you weren't listening. And I was like, mom, that thing's fucking haunted.

SPEAKER_03

It was really haunted.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So haunted. What how was that even? Oh, probably the people got trampled on Black Friday. Yeah, it was their spirit. Maybe Bye was their last words.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe it was. I don't know. Alright, so let's hear what you're what what did you end up covering? I gotta hear about this.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, just a few other haunted dolls. Um I didn't get much. I got like three of them down. Um, alright, Robert the doll. He is believed to have been gifted to Robert Eugene Otto by his grandfather in 1904 in Germany. It's rumored that the hauntedness and spiritual charge came from a maid for the Otto family hexing the doll, but nothing has been confirmed. Nevertheless, the two became fast friends. The parents shortly started hearing Robert talking to the doll at night. And as they grew close, as Robert and the doll grew closer, the doll would torment him. And like he would get in really big trouble. Dude, I've heard about this. Uh destroying his room, everything but him. Um, flipping furniture, moving on his own, trashing his other toys. The doll's behavior continued after the owner's death, and even now where he's held in Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida, often cursing people who disrespect him. I mean, if I was a haunted doll and someone looked at me sideways, I would send them pestilence. Like you would get locusts. That shit would be biblical. I heard about that one. Yeah, like I don't really know much about it, but that doll's creepy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like it's really hard for me to get creeped out by a doll.

SPEAKER_02

But like that's the wind. Oh. Oh, it was Ike's snore. Now Patton is refusing to come inside.

SPEAKER_03

And um, I was gonna go get her, but then I saw a lot of lightning, and I decided.

SPEAKER_01

I saw lightning too. It was insane.

SPEAKER_03

I decided it was best for me to come back in. She'll be fine. She's not very tall. I just I'm two apples tall. I'm trying to get her to come in. People are probably thinking I'm abusing this doll. I mean, you know she's not gonna get struck. Okay, I'm gonna go see if I can bribe with food.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, tell us about the next one.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Um the second one I'm covering is just named Lily. Um, the doll was originally a recreation of Elizabeth Bathory, like Bathory, like the band. Um, the Countess who killed and bathed in the blood of 650 plus people in Hungary. She was blood hungry. That was fucking stupid. Um, Lily was used by pract practitioners to ward off evil spirits, and dolls like her. It was a common practice in the 17th century. She would make objects fly across the kitchen and cabinets open um in the home of the most recent owner before 2020 when she was donated. The woman said that chairs would spin upside down in the air and a sinister smile would appear in the mirror in her kitchen. Lily still makes lights flicker even now. I just like that's just so lame. Like, if I were a haunted doll, I would be doing I would be doing the most. You could not get rid of me. I'd be like Chucky. And it would only be because I would find it funny. And I'm not even trying to be like an edgelord, I'm just like, if I was haunting a doll and I was stuck in a plastic body, you could not tell me shit. If I had the ability to make things fly across the room and I was an inanimate object, you're goddamn right I'm doing it. Like you want me to say it again. No, no, no, no, it's okay. Did you hear it? Yeah, I did. Okay. And Okiku. This doll was gifted to a three-year-old named Kikuko by her older brother. When Kikuko passed away, the aura around the beloved doll got cold. Um, which I think was the love attached to it. Um, the family kept the doll as a memorial since she loved it so much, but then they noticed the doll's hair was growing longer. Ew. I know. That would freak me the fuck out. Uh yeah, I'm not gonna lie, that would be funny. Yeah, no, you're so funny. I would be more scared of that than it throwing things across the room. Because that means it's alive. Yeah, that's fucking freaking. No fucking thank you. Because like it being haunted, sure, whatever, that's fine. I like I can handle that. But if the doll is like growing hair, ugh, that means it's an organism and it's got the nutrients needed to do that.

SPEAKER_03

I will say that if that's if that doll that you had would have started growing hair, I probably would have gotten rid of it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Or if you were in modern Vera and you believed me, and you're like, it's I don't give a fuck if it's haunted. That thing was sixty dollars. And you know what? You're so real for that. I mean, look, it was a nice doll, okay? Because I've spent sixty dollars on a singular shirt from my favorite band, and if it had like some negative presence attached to it, I'm still fucking wearing it.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, you could just You were so funny, like cleanse it. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Put it through the washer with some selenite. No, that's like fiber less. No. I mean, just like an energetic cleanse. You could do that, you know. It's like what you do when you buy secondhand items.

SPEAKER_01

It's dolls are a different story, but dolls are a different story. The family immediately immediately believed that Kikuko's spirit was attached onto the doll, which like that makes sense, but like, no, not really. Yeah, please don't talk to the They kept it for years. Um, until eventually they decided to move it and her spirit to the Menenji Temple monks, where it is now a tourist attraction, and her hair continues to grow. That is absolutely like you're so fucking funny. Fucking bizarre. How would that even work? They don't have follicles, they don't have the nutrients, they don't have anything that would foster hair growing. I'm sorry, this is like really fucking me as a science nerd.

SPEAKER_03

I yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Like specifically biology, and now I'm really confused. Yeah, yeah. And like that would freak me the fuck out just based on biology alone, because like that's not supposed to happen.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's fucking weird.

SPEAKER_02

I don't I have no answer for that, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

Like, uh uh. Yeah. I I mean, but I mean, our dogs are so fat they have two sets of ass cheeks. You see that? Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well then there's fucking Patton out there terrorizing neighbors. If any of our neighbors are listening to this right now, I promise I did not lock my dog outside.

SPEAKER_00

She won't come in.

SPEAKER_03

She's refusing to come in. I'm gonna have to go out and get her, and I don't want to get struck by lightning.

SPEAKER_01

You're not very tall. I think you'll be fine.

SPEAKER_03

I'm just like, but that pool, we have that giant ass pool. Yeah, are you next to the pool? I will be if I'm chasing down that damn dog. You're gonna have to come with me and help me with this one.

SPEAKER_01

Me, I'm tall! Then you're gonna have to move cool. I'm seven, you want me out there? You don't have to run. You might as well ask me to bring my fucking six-foot metal flag out there. I'm not saying that you have to be fast, just faster than the lightning. Oh, right, right. Right. That's just so simple. Oh, well, um just make sure my hair doesn't stand up. You've been wanting body. Huh? Standing up, body to the hair. Oh! I was like, what the fuck are you talking about? Like the Megan the Stallion song? No. All right. Well, um, this was a short episode, but it was a good one.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, I think this is probably one of my favorites.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was fun.

SPEAKER_03

Um, we're gonna be connecting with a very dear friend of mine, Beth Cooper. Um, she is a um, she's a paranormal expert and actually specializes in haunted items and has a few things to share with us that she has experienced. So I hope to have her on our show very soon. Um, we've been like two ships passing. She's had a lot going on. I've had a lot going on. Oh, we've had a lot going on. Oh, we're not even gonna talk about it. But we can't, yeah. You know, just think like a secret agent man. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I was like, yeah, we've got so many of those. I have so many secret Asian men.

SPEAKER_00

It's just not a secret anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Oh fuck. Well, they don't know the amount. So we don't know where I keep them.

SPEAKER_02

We hope you keep listening. Um, but bye for now. Bye, toodles.
