Hear Joy talk about her Missions Trip to Guatemala

SPEAKER_00

Hello everyone and welcome to the Face Laker Podcast. It's Joy, and today I'm going to tell you guys all about my mission trip. What we did, what we saw, and how God worked in our lives and the people there's lives, etc. But first I have to say that I'm very sorry that I wasn't able to do a podcast the last two weeks. It's because I didn't really have one ready to pre-record before I left. Um but I did start one on the plane on the way there, but obviously just traveling and being in a different country. Um for some reason I thought that Thursday was Friday, and Thursday morning when I woke up, I was brushing my teeth with bottled water, and I realized that we had church last night and I was supposed to do a podcast today, but honestly I just gave up at that point. So I'm sorry, that was on me and my very forgetful brain in Guatemala. Why do I say forgetful like that? Forgetful brain in Guatemala. So let's just do our game now. So this is a game where I just say a word and you can have fun saying the first things that oh my word, I can't talk today. The first thing that comes to your mind when I say that word. And I'll tell you the first thing that comes to my m my mind when I think of that word. Okay, so here we go. Number one is pool. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word pool is a flamingo floaty, like the ring floaties or whatever. Drink, the next one that comes to my mind is um like one of those glasses, like an orange like a juice thing. Um water, the first thing that comes to my mind is like a water commercial. I don't know why. And I never see them. I I don't even know how why I think of it. Next one, um, snack. First thing you think when you think of snack. First thing I think is um Cheetos, even though I hate Cheetos. Like I don't eat Cheetos. I I I don't know, but I just think of it. Next one is ice. First thing that comes to your mind with ice. First thing that comes to my mind is ice that you buy at the store. So next thing um uh the next word is rain. R-A-I-N. First thing that comes to your mind when you think of rain. First thing, well, there's this dog named Rain on our street who comes by doesn't even live in our street, but she just comes by, walks all the time, and her name's Rain. Or the sun or sorry, the song. It's it's a nursery rhyme. I don't know where I heard it. I think it was like when my brother Luke was little, but it's like I'm not gonna sing it, but it's the lyrics are like, oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, play shine down on me or something. It's like a it's a nursery rhyme, but it's weird. Then next one is Road. Whenever I think of Road, I think of like a fork in the road with like two sh roads splitting for some reason. Um and the next one I think of, or sorry, the next one is shoes. First one I think of is um like just blue tennis shoes you see when a like a on a cartoon on somebody. Then the next one is backpack. This one is weird because the first thing I think of when I think of or I hear the word backpack is Dora the Explorer's backpack. It's so weird, and I do I haven't watched Dora the Explorer since I was like seven, so yeah. Okay, well I hope you had fun with that little game, and I guess we can do our highs and lows, but that's the last time I'm gonna say that, at least for a while, because instead we're gonna do prayer requests. So I will tell you all my prayer requests, and you can take time to think about yours. And if you want me to pray for something, then you can leave a comment if you're okay with more than just me seeing it, because it is public, or you can private message me on Instagram, or talk to me if you know me, text me if you have my number, or if you're okay with my mom seeing it too, you can private message my mom on Instagram or Facebook at Kara Hawkins Stancil. And I promise I will not share it with anyone. And my high was that wait, yeah. Okay, so my high was that I got back to school this week, and oh my word, I have so much makeup work from two weeks. It's amazingly terrible. And I missed a slideshow I had to make, a whole report. Um, I had to make a wordless book and a whole paper on it. I had to pick out a book from our school library for a book report, and everyone's like so far ahead in their books, and I just got mine yesterday. Um, but no, it's fine. And I guess I kinda like having something to do, I guess. And my low was that I broke my pink flower clocklet and on to the mission strip recap. And this is only part one of two because there's a lot to catch you guys up on. So, Monday, April 6th. So I went to school just like a normal day. Then after school, I got my nails done, and then got some things I needed from the store. Then I decided to get the missionary girls who are my age, some like fun girly things. Then we went home to eat dinner and I started packing my check bag and my carry-on and my personal item. And I didn't really sleep that night. I didn't sleep last night because we had to be at church by 1 30 a.m. And this really, really nice lady from our church came and bought us little baggies with our names on it of breakfast, and it was really good. And she wrote Miss Joy on it for me. It was so sweet. And so now we go on to Tuesday, April 7th. Um, we got to the Columbus Airport at about four or five-ish, maybe three-ish, something like that. Um, we got through security really quickly, and I got a Starbucks, and then we boarded our first three-hour flight to Dallas, Texas, and it was actually we had an hour delay because of maintenance, but somehow we still got to the connecting flight to Guatemala City, Guatemala. Um, and that we had a little delay, but it was fine. Um, and then we got to Guatemala, and the missionary picked us up and took us to this like really good chicken place. We went to a couple to it a couple times after too. Um, and he dropped us off at a hotel and we took a little bit of time to rest, and then we went to this really nice lady's house and her family or sister or whatever, um, for dinner with the missionary family, and it was so good. We went to a lot of people's houses, so I'm just gonna say it all sounds good. It was. And then we go to Wednesday, April 8th, so the missionary picked us up and took us to their church for breakfast, and then we printed out a bunch of flyers and went out to some local towns to pass out flyers for a scavenger hunt, and then we went to lunch at another nice ladies' house, and then we had church at night, um, because it was Wednesday, and I taught K5, and they were so sweet singing their little Spanish songs. Oh, and we also went to some schools earlier and they kept saying 6-7. It was hilarious because I didn't even know that was a thing in another country, and it's kind of like dying out here too, I think. But then we go to Thursday, April 9th. So the missionary picked us up for breakfast at the church. Then we went out soul winning some more towns and had lunch and dinner at more people's houses, and there were so many tortillas, but they were pretty good, yo. And I'm pretty sure it's called like Panaha no at Teat Lawn, something like that, and there was like a bunch of little shops and stuff, maybe 45 minutes from where we were staying, and it was awesome. There were so many little shops. I got like this monkey for my little brother Micah that makes noises, and my little sister was so jealous when I brought it home for Micah, but I got her a princess and she didn't like it. She said, I don't want it. So, yeah. Friday, April 10th, he picked us up for breakfast at the church again, and then some of us went on a visit to this lady's house. Um, and from what I hear was like really, really special. Um, and it was really cool to hear about um her life. And then the rest of us went soul winning again, and then we went to a store and I got Guatemala Gatorade. And my dad and grandpa preached at their small Bible college and I think school too. I don't know if maybe they did chapel or something. But Saturday, April 11th. So he picked us up for breakfast at the church, and then we got we went to this big open field and spread out candy and prizes for a scavenger hunt, and that's what we've been promoting this whole time, soul winning. Um, but then when all the kids came, um, we had a lesson and my dad gave the plan of salvation. And in total, I think we had 200 to like 245 people show up, and like 30 kids got saved. My mouth was literally hanging open because they don't they didn't talk at all, they were locked in. Um and my church led Jesus Love is bubbling over the song. And then Saturday night we had a rally at a small church a couple of times over to like promote them, get them some more people, and we were doing like a raffle, but we accidentally put the wrong date on all the flyers. So everyone who showed up, um, who actually showed up, we gave away an iPad, or sorry, we gave them an extra raffle ticket and a cowtail. So we just made it a church service, um, and it was really good. Um lots of people were paying attention and all that. But we gave away an iPad, um, a world's largest gummy bear, world's largest lollipop, world's larg world's sorry, world's largest ring pop, and Bluetooth speakers and a lantern, two Bluetooth speakers and a lantern. And then the rest we will talk about next week. Oh, and I wanted to say a humongous shout out to Claire. Uh Clara. Because um I think a little bit ago I um gave a shout-out to her and I said Claire instead of Clara. So I just wanted to say I'm so sorry, and I know I guess it's not that big of a deal, but I guess it is to me, and I just want to know how special it is that you listen to my podcast and how sweet of a girl you are, and uh, I'm so thankful for you. And uh make sure to check out our Instagram page, and I'll see you guys next week. Bye!
