Welcome to Between Sundays, a weekday reminder to help us carry Sunday's truth into the rest of the week. Yesterday, we considered this important truth from 1 Corinthians twelve. Every believer has a God given place and function in the body of Christ. That is a simple truth, but it changes how we think about the local church. The church is not merely a building we enter, it is not merely a service we attend, it is not merely a sermon we hear, it is not merely a place where our children receive instruction or where we receive help when we need it. According to Scripture, the church is a body. Paul writes, for as the body is one and hath many members, a body has many parts, but those parts are joined together in one living organism. The parts are not all the same, but they belong together, they function together, they depend on one another. That means Christianity is not a spectator faith. The Christian life is not meant to be lived from the seats only. The Christian is not saved simply to watch others serve. The believer is saved by grace and created in Christ Jesus unto good works. God has a purpose for his people, and that purpose is lived out in connection with Christ and His body. This week, do not think of church merely as something you attended yesterday. Ask yourself, how am I part of the body? You may not have a public role. You may not stand behind a pulpit, you may not teach a class, you may not sing a special. But that does not mean you are unnecessary. A body needs visible parts and hidden parts, it needs strong parts and tender parts, it needs hands, feet, eyes, ears, and all the members working together. So today, remember the message. The church is a body, not an audience. As you begin this week, pray this simple prayer. Lord, thank you for saving me and placing me among your people. Help me not only to attend church but to belong, grow, and serve as a faithful member of the body of Christ. Show me where I can be useful this week. Amen. And as we move toward next Sunday, come with this mindset I am not coming merely to watch, I am coming as a member of the body of Christ.
