Welcome to Dad Bot of Horror. I'm your host, Butch Barr. I still know co-host. You know, one of these days there's going to be a co-host and it's going to blow all your minds and it's going to be amazing. So welcome to episode 11, season one, episode 11. Wow. It's just awesome. Um, some bit of house cleaning here. So again, I am on X or Twitter at dadbot of horror and also Instagram at dadbot of horror. Um, I have seen two horror movies since the last episode. The first one we saw in the theater, my wife and I, with some friends. Ready or not, here I come, or ready or not too, as some people are calling it. So we saw that in the theater, and I have to say it is just as good as the first one. It has Samara Weaving and Catherine Newton, and I really enjoy both of those actresses. I think they're amazing. And I think this movie was was really, like I said, really, really good. Good, great deaths, great story. Everything's great about it, and in my head, is also opens the door for a third one, which would be awesome. So I give this one uh eight stars out of ten. It is definitely worth a watch. The second movie, a horror movie that I've seen. Uh, my wife and I uh we've sometimes I put on tubi. I told you guys this. I put on tubi and I watch uh I put on independent horror movies and then I walk around and do other things. And uh my wife was doing some work getting the Gardnerie ready, protecting it from the dogs. And uh we came back in, we're gonna eat supper, and this movie was on Tubi, and I looked to see what it was, and it was uh Anaconda Blood Coil, which was uh new this year. So she liked the Anaconda movies, so we thought we'd watch it. And uh again, it's an independent horror movie. It is not great, the writing's terrible. The CG effects are bad, and the writer's understanding of what an Anaconda is is also not great either. Uh, four out of ten. It's not very good. I mean, if you just want to see a movie with snakes in or another anaconda movie, then go ahead. Um, like I said, I we watched it on Tubi. So, another little interesting thing. So, I had gotten uh a new listener that listened for my podcast the first time within the last couple of weeks, and uh it was one of the couple we went to see the the movie Ready or Not Here I Come With. And it was kind of funny because we were just kind of talking, and I asked him what he thought, and he said that I have a really good voice for radio, and I and I enjoy the compliment. I I like to hear that. I personally hate my voice. I have trouble listening to this for editing purposes because I don't like my voice. And actually, usually what I usually hear about me and radio is that I have a good face for radio, but I I ex I appreciated the compliment. So uh this particular episode is gonna go a little different than the other ones usually do. So usually I come up with an idea for an episode, kind of a theme, and then I find three movies that fit that theme this week, uh, because next Sunday is Easter. I thought it would do an Easter thing. So I was looking to find uh Easter movies to do, and uh there really aren't I like a lot of you know big, popular, famous Easter horror movies, strangely enough. Um, the other one that I could find was Night of the Lepis, Lepis, Lepis, L-E-P-U-S, which is from the 70s, and I don't know if you guys have ever heard of that movie, but it is about uh, you know, giant man-eating rabbits. And um I don't like rodents to begin with, and I've seen bits and pieces of this movie. I just know that you know, at one point there are people shooting rabbits with guns, and it looks like the rabbits are exploding in a bloody mess, and even though I don't like rodents, I just can't watch that. So that was the only movie, and it only really has to do with rabbits, it's nothing to do with Easter. So all of the Easter horror movies are kind of independent. Like I said, normally I do a popular movie under the same under one theme, and then I'll do one that's less popular than I do an independent, and it all follows the same theme. Well, this particular week, they all follow the same theme, but they're all uh independent horror movies. So yeah, so let's get started. Movie number one for season one, episode 12, is called Beaster Day. Here comes Peter Cottonhell. It's from 2014. I'm sorry, I'm gonna chuckle a lot in this one. You can find it on Prime, Fossum, Pluto, and Tubi. Production company is Purgatory Blues LLC. The directors are Spencer and Zachary. I'm guessing Snig or Snike, S-N-Y-G-G. The writers are Spencer and Zachary Snig. My guess is Purgatory Blues is owned by Spencer and Zachary Snig, also. And you know, my maybe you don't know if you directed it, wrote it, and produced it. That can't be good. Um you need you need another voice in there. This it stars Peter Sullivan, uh, John Arthur, and Christina Bodwin. Bodwin, I don't know. B-E-A-U-D-O-U-I-N. Again, I apologize for names. I do the best I can. So the plot. A giant bloodthirsty Easter bunny starts viciously killing the local townsfolk. When the mayor refuses to act and the attacks grow more gruesome, the town finds its very survival in the hands of a wannabe actress and a crazy dog catcher. So why this movie? I told you I was doing an Easter theme. How did I see this one? I watched this one just for the podcast. I'd never seen this before. My favorite kill. Okay, so one of the kills in the movie, a woman, it's in the very beginning. A woman during getting killed, her eye pops out, and like you travel with the eye, like the cameras with the eye, and you travel with the eyes, it ricochets off of stuff. It it breaks through a glass window and it ends up in a guy's protein shape, and the guy drinks it. So this movie had a little bit of CGI, which is something for you know movies of this caliber, but I'm not sure why. So there was a CGI rabbit hole, but it looks like it would have been easier and cheaper for just someone just to dig the rabbit hole. The giant bunny itself, it looks like if you've ever seen like even a Muppet Show did it, where basically they have like an actor all in black, and it's a black screen behind them, and there's the like a marionette or like kind of puppet in front of them that is attached to their arms and legs, and they kind of walk around and move. They can move the this puppet by moving, but you don't see the actor that much because they're all in black, so you just see the colorful animal in front. Well, this kind of reminds me of what this bunny was. Like they did a green screen, and someone was standing behind this marionette bunny and walking and stuff. It it really looked comical, but again, you know, you know, they're doing the best they can. The kills in it are fun. I have to say that. The the the story, a lot of it is not bad. So, you know, the girl that's the actress, it it's it's kind of misleading the plot. So the girl kind of was gonna be an actress, and she came back and she ends up getting a job as a dog catcher, and they have a lot of dog catchers in this town. And uh, this other guy is kind of just a dog catcher, gonna be a dog catcher forever, and he's just totally into it. And the two of them get teamed up, and the two of them end up having to hunt this Beaster Day bunny down. The movie again, it's fun, it's not very good, it's fun. A lot of these movies, a lot of the independence, it's kind of like hit or miss. Some are very breast-centric, and some are not. This one, I would say, is shamelessly showing women's breasts. Uh, the third, the second person, sorry, that gets killed in this. So, again, comically, she's I don't know what she's doing something, and she's wearing like a tank top and a black tank top and black shorts. And this she comes across as gigantic bunny and screams, and the thing swipes at her with his paw and rips off her tank top. And she wasn't wearing a bra, so her breasts are out. And then she just starts running, and the camera is following her running and you know, all of its glory. It's funny. Um, she eventually does get killed, but it's just like, you know, it padded the movie, but you know, if you're gonna pad the movie, I guess for guys that's the way to do it. Um, it was filmed in Allentown, PA, which is actually close to where I live, which is kind of neat. And apparently uh Spencer and Zachary Snig make a lot of movies, or at least it sounded like they did. So uh I'm gonna have to try to find more of these movies, or or maybe even find the brothers themselves. Again, independent movie, how does it fit on a scale of independent movies? I'm gonna say um lower middle class. Um, I think there is a lot there. Um, the only thing that wasn't there was you know money to do things, and and and maybe this the writing could have been a bit better. So, yeah, not too bad. Not too bad at all. The second movie for season one, episode 12, is called Bunny Man Massacre. It's from 2014. You can find it on Indoplex Unlimited, which is through uh Amazon. Plex and Tubi. Production company is ANOC Productions, Anok Productions. The director is Carl Lindbergh, writer is Carl Lindbergh, and his stars David Scott, Joshua Lang, and Julianne Dowler. The plot. Bodies pile up as Bunny Man indiscriminately slaughters anything that crosses path in a mutually beneficial relationship that gives Joe plenty of beef jerky to sell in his local store. Why this movie? Again, doing Easter theme movies. How did I see it? I watched it specifically for this podcast. My favorite kill. Alright, so I'm hoping that you guys don't think less of me for what I'm about to say. Uh, in the beginning of the movie, uh, Bunyman stops and kills the driver of a school bus. So the school bus is pulling up and he stops, and Bunyman. I don't know how this bus driver's gonna see Bunyman, but Bunny Man has a shotgun and a chainsaw, but the driver doesn't see it. Bunny Man blows off the head of the driver with the shotgun and then boards the bus. And he starts chopping up kids with the chainsaw. Now you don't see the carnage, so there's kids piling out the back, and you see blood spraying on these kids as they come out back. So some kids in the bus are are uh are are getting you know chopped up. Um you don't see the blossom the the blood spray, but quite frankly, I still thought it was funny. Like a a mainstream horror movie would really shy away from doing something like that, because I can imagine it would be uh quite uh an outrage about that, but uh you know, independent, yeah, you do what you want, kind of a thing. So I did enjoy that, and and maybe again I am not right inside for enjoying that. So I told you I couldn't do Night of the Leapest because of the the dead rabbit thing. So, of course, the beginning of this movie during the opening credits, they show like these old time phone timey photos of like these guys that went on a rabbit hunt, and there's like like dozens and dozens of dead rabbits just sitting there, and and I didn't really care for that. So, this movie I didn't realize was a sequel to uh Bunny Man. So, this is I guess the first sequel I've done, and I didn't know it, and I I apologize that I haven't done Bunyman yet, but I I'm gonna have to do that at some point because I've already done the sequel. So, the idea in this movie is that there's a guy named Joe, and he makes beef jerky and sells it in his really rundown horrible store. And Bunny Man basically goes, captures, kills whatever, or kills, and then brings back the meat to Joe to make in the jerky. So during this, he captures two girls, a blonde and a brunette, and Joe is about to forcefully have his way with the brunette, and the blonde's like, listen, listen, listen. I saw four other hikers, they're all women. If I bring them back here, will you let us go? So Joe, you know, says, Okay. So as the girl is about to leave, so I figure, hey, you know, I get the idea. Joe's a dude, bunny man is a guy dressed in a big bunny suit with a chainsaw. If girls saw them coming, they would scatter. You know what I mean? So he figures, I'm thinking, okay, yeah, girl shows up in your campsite, drink, get friendly, and somehow entice them back to this place, like, hey, there's a great thing. Hey, I saw this over at the barn, whatever, something like that, you know. But then Joe hands the blonde girl a gun, a handgun, to go bring them out. And the girl just walks to the campsite with the gun, points it at them, says, You're going with me. Well crap, Joe could have done that. I didn't understand that. Um, Carl and Berg Ryder, you I don't understand why that made sense to you. Um so yeah. And then, like, again, sometimes writing means everything, and and and I realize that these are these are bad movies, and and I realize I'm watching a horror movie about a guy that's dressed up like a bunny that is killing people with a chainsaw. I get it. Okay, you have to suspend your reality for a little bit. But having said that, towards the end, two girls who have escaped from the bunny man and Joe, or is that his name? Yeah, Joe. They they're running through the woods and they see uh they see a pickup, and it's the chief of police or sheriff, whatever, it's the person in charge of the police department, and they're like, hey, you know, and he and he has lost deputies in the area, and he thinks Joe's doing the killing, but he's got no proof. Okay. So these girls run out of the woods, they're like, hey, hey, you know, you know, and they're explaining to him. And instead of taking them to safety and then getting help and coming back, state police, whatever, coming back to arrest these guys, no, no, no, no, no. He said, Yeah, just go on the truck. I have a gun with two bullets in it underneath the seat, and I'm gonna go take care of this. So then he goes back into the woods and leaves them in the truck. Can't imagine that's part of police procedure. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's it seemed crazy because as soon as she, they're like, hey, go on, as soon as he says, Hey, go in the truck. I'm thinking, no, no, no, you go in the truck, you guys all get out of there, and you come back with a lot more people because there's someone that is killing people in the woods. You probably shouldn't be the only one walking around in the woods looking for them. Okay. So it gets worse. So the sheriff guy, the chief police, whatever, he goes through the woods and he finds Joe. And Joe has a rifle in his hands, and he has his back to Joe has his back to the to the cops. So the cops is like, turn around. He doesn't tell him to drop the gun, and he doesn't drop the gun. And then it's this whole wild west, man be man, and they decide to do like a duel, you know, pistol versus rifle, whoever can get up the shot first. Like, that is the dumbest thing in the world. I would hope there is not a police officer out there that is that dumb to be staring down a guy with a rifle, and you have the drop on him, and you're like, let's have a shootout. You know, no, arrest them. Tell them to drop the damn gun, get on his belly, and put on cuffs. It was it was kind of, you know, I'm spoiler alert, the the sheriff dies. And he deserved to. I was gonna kill him, quite frankly. So the last movie for this episode, season one, episode 12. Gosh, 12. Um is the Easter Bunny Massacre, and that's from 2021. And you can find it on Prime, Fossum, Apple TV, Tubi, Peacock, and Pluto. I mean, you can't throw a rock without finding this sucker. Uh, the production company was ITN Distribution and Jagged Edge Productions. Rider is Jack Peter Mundy. I'm sorry, director was Jack Peter Mundy. Rider was Sophie Osborne, and it stars oh my gosh, last name. Jenna or Genna. It's a dude. So I don't know if they're if he pronounces it Genna or Jenna. Las Kutnevik. Lask Laskutnevik. Something like that. Sarah T. Cohen and Tom Wynn. So how did I see it? Um, I did watch this one before. It's one of these things where I must have been going through different channels. I have just about every streaming service. Uh, my kid loves soccer games, loves soccer, all the different leagues. So each league is like on a different streaming service, so I have them all. So sometimes when I get bored or looking for a new horror movie, I just start I pick a streaming service and find a horror movie I haven't seen. And I'm pretty sure I did that with this. If it was on Peacock, that was probably where I found it. And it just looks silly, you know. And he and uh I'm sorry, I skipped ahead a little bit. So the plot is a group of friends hiding a deadly secret or hunted down by one by one by a bunny masked killer. Um, again, why this movie went to see movies, and again, um, I did watch this one before. Again, it sounded awful and silly, but but it's not bad at all. It really isn't. Um, my favorite kill. Um, there aren't, I mean, the kills in this are okay. My favorite kill is one of the guys, it gets melted chocolate poured onto his face. Um, it must have been super hot the way he screamed. Then the killer ran down and stabbed the life out of the guy. I just thought it was a neat juxtaposition because of like chocolate Easter bunnies and stuff. And the guy's like looking up and he just pours chocolate down on his face, and yeah, it was kind of cool. Um, so again, the movie's not bad at all. The story itself is pretty good. So, what happens? The deadly secret, I mean, it's not a sheet, I mean, they kind of show you what happened. Uh, group of friends, high school friends that are portrayed by you know late 30s, late, late 20s somethings, um, are having a party and take ecstasy because all high school students are apparently able to get that, and they all get freaked out. And at the the the next morning, they wake up, they're all covered in blood, and the one girl's dead. And now here they are, however many years later, because I don't think they ever tell you. And they are brought back together by messages, unless allegedly by the girl that was killed. None of them remember the evening, they don't know who killed her. So they decided at the time just to hide the body, get rid of the body, you know, because I don't know, you panic, I guess. So now they're all back together, and now there's a bunny person wearing a bunny mask killing them. Why bunny mask? Because she was wearing a bunny mask at one time during the night when she died. Okay, so that's all that again. It's not a bad story. Um it's very much, you know, I know what you did last summer type of movie. The acting in it is not bad. I think it's because they're all like English, British actors. I mean, some of them are Irish. So I'm thinking that like British standards of acting, like a bad British actor is still a half-decent like American actor kind of thing. That's my guess. The only problem was so you had you had some British actors, you had some Irish actors, and you had a couple actors, I don't know where they're from, but all these like different accents, it did become hard to watch sometimes. Luckily, I had subtitles on, so that helped. So I'm just looking over my notes. So Good Things was acting. It was a half-decent mystery because you didn't know who done anything, who did what, and like different people would talk like during the the course of the movie, and you kind of found like what they saw of that night, which is neat. It that's that's a good way you do a mystery. I mean, it's you know, oh yeah, and you just see it through their eyes and so see what they saw, and you're trying to piece it together. Who? Um, you know, meanwhile, people are dying, and you're figuring the person that died then is probably not the one, less because if they keep killing, then that must not be the one. At one point, they do like a nice little suspect roundup, you know, that you see like in the Heckulu Patron movies. So, yeah, it was it it was pretty. Good. It's a movie I could watch again. The three of the guys that were in the movies were actually like real action guys. Like they are experienced in MMA or martial arts. And I don't know why, because they didn't need it for this movie. And uh two of the actresses, Antonia Willens, who's the girl that gets killed, and Mae Kelly. I'm not going to say anything about Mae Kelly because I don't want to spoil anything, because I really do think you should see this movie. It's on so many services, it's easy to see. They've done a bunch of these like lower budget movies, and uh, this is only 2021, and and I I think both of them have like four or five, six movies on their credits since then. So just have to keep my eye on them and see how they uh keep progressing. And uh I don't know if there's a sequel to Easter Bunny Massacre there. I think there really could be. That was one other thing about this movie is and it's one of these things that that bugs me for some of these movies. Like it just ended, and you think, okay, whether doing a sequel or like you're supposed to fill in your own blanks, but it just ended. It seems it seems cheap, cheap and like less expensive, but cheap in that you know, like uh, we're just not gonna do it kind of a thing. So, other than that, I really enjoyed the movie. So, yeah, so there were all three movies. I do know which three movies I'm gonna be doing for next week. I'm not gonna tell you, just in case for some reason I changed my mind. Like originally I had Night of the Leapist set up for this episode and decided not to do it because I didn't want to watch Rabbits get blown apart. So, until next episode, lucky number 13. Um
