Grace in the Breaking
Grace in the Breaking is a faith-anchored podcast for anyone walking through loss, uncertainty, or seasons that feel overwhelming. Hosted by Elizabeth Everett, the show explores what happens when life strips away what once felt secure—and God reveals what truly remains.
After a rapid unraveling of health, marriage, career, relationships, and watching her son battle addiction, Elizabeth found herself at the end of her own strength. It was there—pressed, undone, and surrendered—that she discovered a deeper truth: God was enough, and she was never alone.
Each episode creates a safe, honest space for those whose faith has been tested by fire. Grace in the Breaking speaks to unanswered prayers, silent waiting, and the refining moments that feel like loss but are actually preparation. Through real stories, reflection, and hope rooted in Scripture, the podcast reminds listeners that purpose is often born in the pressing—and grace meets us right in the middle of the breaking.

Ep. 12 - God Didn’t Take Your Fire—You Gave It Away

Elizabeth Everett delivers a faith-centered message on rediscovering spiritual fire, calling listeners back to surrender, obedience, and intimacy with God.
Drawing from scripture and personal reflection, she speaks directly to those who feel weary, numb, or disconnected, reminding them that the fire God placed within them has not gone out it has only been dimmed by life, pain, distraction, and burnout. Through biblical truth and prayer, she emphasizes that God is a consuming fire and that His word is meant to stir within us, not remain hidden or suppressed.
Elizabeth challenges listeners to release past pain, silence the lies of the enemy, and break agreement with fear, comparison, and apathy. She calls for a return to daily discipline in the Word, a posture of surrender, and a willingness to say yes to God’s purpose. This message highlights themes of spiritual renewal, deliverance, identity in Christ, and walking in obedience even without immediate evidence.
With bold declarations and practical steps, she encourages listeners to examine what is extinguishing their fire, lay it at the feet of Jesus, and allow Him to reignite passion, clarity, and purpose. The episode reinforces that delay is not denial, rejection can be protection, and true peace is found in walking fully aligned with God.
This is a call to rise, to trust, and to live fully alive in the purpose God has already placed within you.

Today, we're going to talk about finding your fire. How many of you out there feel like you don't have a fire? I know I felt that way at one time, but today is the day of change. Today is the day that you find your fire. We're going to talk about how to do that. We're going to pray some prayers that are going to bring it in, and we're going to glorify him and surrender it at his feet. I'm Elizabeth Everett, and this is Grace and the Breaking. What wakes you up and stirs your soul? Hebrews 12:9 reminds us for our God is a consuming fire. Jeremiah 20, verse 9. His word is in my heart like a fire. It stirs up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in. Indeed, I cannot. So his word literally tells us to let the fire burn inside of us. Let it come out. It's in you, it's in me. Sometimes we don't feel like that. Because somewhere along the way, our fired dim. Life happened, the pain came and weariness settled in. But you know what? God is the God who restores, renews, and he reignites. So today, it's time to come back to him. Not striving, not pretending, but surrendered. Let him blow on the embers of what he has placed inside you. Doesn't matter where you've been, how far you've strayed away, today is your invitation. Bring it to him, lay it at his feet, and watch that fire ignite. So many times we go through points in our lives where we let the past define us. We let it have such a hold on us. But what if today's the day you don't have to do that? What if we find what is burning deep inside of you that you can no longer rest until you let it shine so brightly? Let him stir what has been buried under your exhaustion, your disappointment. Let him set your heart on fire again, not for performance, but for presence. Have you ever stopped to contemplate that? Now I've said many times before, before he even knew you, he already had a plan. He knew you when he knitted you together in your mother's womb. I know I sound like a broken record saying that, but there was a plan placed on your life. There was a fire that was set inside of you. Now it's up to you to activate it. Surrender it. There's so many different calls to ministry, to leading, and what your purpose is. So today we're going to take a look. We're going to find out what your purpose is, and we're going to let that fire outshine every disappointment, every naysayer, every word curse that has been spoken against you, everybody that has said you will never amount to anything. Guess what? The proof is in the pudding because when your light starts to shine, it's undeniable. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. When you've lost sight of your fire, you got to let him realign you. You have to remove anything that is dulled your passion, the distractions, the fear, the compromise, the burnout. And you know what? Comparison. Ask him to replace it with clarity, hunger, and holy desire. Let him help you feel again what you've been called to do. Let your purpose rise louder than any doubt that has been planted by the enemy as a seed in your mind. You have the power and authority to cast that out right now. So in the name of Jesus, I declare and decree that every distraction and every little demonic voice that's speaking into the ears of these listeners be gone right now. Lord, I ask you to activate their ears so they can hear you clearly and that they too can experience the joy, the love, and the fire that you've given them. I want you to feel again. I want you to feel what you've been called to do. Let your obedience and your yes feel stronger than any hesitation that's pulling at you or calling you back. Lord, ignite a fire in every single one of my friends and family listening so that it can no longer be ignored and can not be extinguished by circumstances. Because I can assure you, friends, he is waiting. If you felt that heaviness lately, guess what? We all do. We go through times, seasons, and periods of where sometimes life just happens. It lays all over us, but it doesn't have to take you out. Surrender. How many times have you heard me say that word? Surrender, surrender, surrender. You gotta stop staying numb. You have to stop where you've grown comfortable. Let the Lord shake you up. Where you have settled, let him stretch you. Where you've gone silent, let him awaken you. Break off the apathy today in the name of Jesus. Break off the heaviness today in the name of Jesus. Break off everything that's keeping you stuck in neutral. He's ready and willing to fill you with fresh oil. Oil isn't cheap, friends. You know, sometimes we look at people and go, oh my gosh, look at the anointing on their life. Look how good their life is. Look what they're doing with it. The oil isn't cheap. How do you know what they've gone through in order to get where they're at? It took us trust and surrender on their part. Ask the Lord to fill you with fresh fire, to fill you with the spirit in a way that moves you to action. You cannot afford in the days we are living in to be lukewarm. You've got to find a way to live fully alive. I can assure you, even when you don't feel God working, he's still working. Even when you don't hear him, he's still talking. Your ears may be closed, but today, pray, literally lay hands on your ears. Lord, I ask you to activate my ears in the name of Jesus. By your stripes I am healed. It's as easy as that. Your yes is all he's waiting on. He's working all the time. And sometimes in the waiting, you know, we just give up. Do not let your fire go out. Today, I want you to be taught how to stay lit without constant evidence. I want you to be anchored in truth. Let your spirit be strengthened by his word. And I want to remind you that delay is not a denial. Seasons of growth build depth, not doubt. You have to have faith over fear above anything else. So the what is burning in you that is so deep? What wakes you up in the middle of the night and goes, we all have those aha moments. Have you let an emotion cause it to flee like that? Turn your face back. Discipline and consistency. Some of you may say, I've never heard the Lord speak. Have you got quiet and still impostered yourself in his word? Because I'm going to tell you something. If you do nothing else or you get nothing else out from today's episode, I want to tell you that if you spend what if you spend time in the word every single day, you will begin to change. But guess what? You got to develop a discipline to sit your hiny down, to open that book and pray that every word you read resonates with you, that you may utilize this word in your practical life. And I can assure you, it'll change you. The Bible fills voids in us that are unexplainable. You know, when I was a lukewarm Christian, and before I got fully delivered from several spirits that were holding me back, you know, I would read the word, but I wouldn't grasp it. It wasn't until I made a consistent discipline of like reading a whole chapter or reading multiple chapters at a time and actually kind of diving in and like, what am I supposed to see out of this? So even in things that I had read before I went back, they started jumping off the page. They started being applicable to my everyday life. It's become a roadmap and it can become a roadmap for yours. Are you ready to find your fire? Because I'm telling you a step-by-step, easy how to do it. This is your life. It's time to move. Every day that passes is one day closer to the end. Tomorrow is not promised. So today is important. It's important for you to stand up and take back everything that the enemy has stole. You have the power and authority to do it. You just have to say yes to heaven. Heaven is waiting on that yes. Quit letting the circles that you run with define who you are. Quit letting their floor be your ceiling. God created you. He created you to be different and stand out. So that is okay. You be you boo as long as the light is shining for Jesus. When you are walking with God, I need you to remember something. It is an all possibilities atmosphere. Anything, anything is possible. Can you imagine? You got to quit letting other people define you, quit letting their words define you. When you are with God, you have to make yourself available. He'll reveal, he'll reveal it all to you. Answer to him. Things will shift. I can assure you. Heaven is waiting on your yes. Your yes to let that fire burn with him. Romans 12, 11 reminds us to never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord. Have you lost your zeal? What's compressing that? Is it the circle of friends that you're running around with? Is it the things you're doing Monday through Friday when you're not at church on the weekend? I'm not saying this to put any condemnation or shame. I am bringing this up to bring a light to sometimes our actions during the week don't line up to where we're going on Sunday. If this podcast has come in front of you and you're not a Christian, reach out to me. If this resonates with you, I will walk you through finding Jesus and surrendering and opening your heart because he's ready and waiting. You know, so many times in my life, I would feel the fire on Sunday, right? I'd be filled like, oh yeah, pumped. Leave the church and let a heaviness come on me and it dim that light. We don't have to do that, folks. He never dims. We have to keep our surroundings conducive to a light and love and all possibilities atmosphere that is only available through him. The enemy would like nothing else but to keep you on the floor, riling out, living a life of sinful natures. The closer you go grow to God, the more conviction the Holy Spirit will rise up in you. When you get a feeling something is off, trust that that's discernment. You will grow in wisdom as you grow in him. Listen, he is no respecter of persons. So what he's done for me, he can do for you. What he's done for you, he can do for me. He loves us all. Red, yellow, black, and white. We are all his children in his side. I know you guys have heard that. I don't know where that came from, but the Holy Spirit just dropped that in. So thank you. Um, it's a great reminder. We are all created equal. No one is better than anyone else here. God loves us all the same. He's placed different callings on our life. You know, your calling may be to steward your family and be a good wife. Your calling may be to raise your children up in the way that they are supposed to, that's so that they never depart from it. There are so many different things, but you won't figure out what lights the fire inside of you unless you go to him and surrender. The fire's there. You got to tap into it, find it, grab it, and hold on. Because once you're ignited, God will move fast. We are all called to share the gospel with others. We're all called to be a light, even in the grocery store. You make eye contact with someone, have a give them a smile. Be joyful in your spirit. Even if you're having a bad day, it'll change the trajectory of everything. Like that. It's just like what I like to use is stop, drop, and pray. Everything changes in a matter of seconds. Heaven is only looking for your yes. So I ask you today, are you ready to walk in the light of his love? I know many of you are. I know it is so easy to let distractions or let lack of validation or let repetitive, monotonous days go on and on. I know what that feels like. Guys, I've been there. It wasn't too long ago that I was lying crushed, perplexed on the floor. I felt broken. But when I called out, he came right to me. He didn't hesitate. He showed up just in the nick of time, right on time, because his timing is always perfect. He had to wait on my heart posture. He had to wait on my surrender and he had to wait on me being a willing and ready vessel to walk with him, to grow with him. And he can do that for you. What if you just let all of the past go? Whatever has been dimming your light, let it go today. Lay it down. Surrender it. Make yourself available to him. This changes everything, friends and family. I mean, wow. It is mind-blowing to me on a daily basis, the goodness of God and how he has shaken up things, how he has changed them. And the peace, when you are walking with a fire ignited in you, man, the peace is unlike, it's unlike anything I've ever done. It's unlike any drug I ever did when I was walking, obviously in the opposite direction from him. Thank you, Jesus, for deliverance. I'm telling you, this peace, it just takes over every bit of you from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, and it flows so freely. And it's given to all of us. It is the peace of God. It is walking in your purpose. It is like letting him let that fire burn so brightly. You know, there's always going to be people that are going to talk behind your back. There's always going to be people that don't like you. And that's okay. There's free will in this world. We have free will to chase God or we have free will to run from him. It's up to us. However, when your light is shining so brightly, let that be the only vindication you need. Whatever's been dimming your life, if it's people talking about you, let it roll off your shoulder. Not everything deserves a response from you. Don't fall into that trap. Don't take on that spirit of heaviness from that. Rise up. You can do it. I believe in you. I'm here talking to you. I mean, once upon a time, I, you know, was seeking validation and all I cared about is, well, what are they going to think? And then I was like, wait a minute. The only person that gets to validate anything is my father above. He is the way, the truth, and the life. I know I said that earlier, but I want to drive that home. I need you to show up even when you don't want to. Remember, if you've been rejected, you're feeling that spirit of rejection, and that's caused you to kind of retreat. You don't have to do that anymore. Because nine times out of 10, that redirection from that rejection was your protection. God removes people, God removes jobs, God removes all sorts of things from your life to help you have clarity that won't sometimes those things hold you back, not because they don't have good intentions, not because they don't love you, but because where he's taking you is outgrown that space. And that's okay. So if you get rejected over the feel of movement, you're not alone. It's okay. God will put you in the right community that's going to activate you for your purpose at the right time. You don't have to chase it. It will come. Your daily life's going to matter. Your habits, your discipline, brick by brick, he's going to change you, mold you, and shape you in ways you can't even imagine. So I'm going to challenge you today. Ask him where he wants you. As your fire ignites, that just means your character is changing. And some people are not, some other people's character can't handle your change. Again, that's okay. You can't let that dim the light that the Lord is igniting the fire in you today for. Don't get emotional when the separations start to happen. This is part of the purpose. This is part of being forged in the fire. Show up and let your fire rise and burn brightly. This is all you need to do. Again, you don't have to prove yourself to anyone but the father above. You just have to sit still and he will vindicate you. Your uncomfortable spaces and having your fire ignited or the uncomfortable spaces he's put you in to reignite your fire, that's where your growth happens. So embrace it. Take your growth season and run with it. When God tells you to move, you need to start moving. When you delay that obedience, it's not fun. You'll get real uncomfortable. First Thessalonians reminds us: do not quench the spirit. When he's speaking to you, when you hear a certain song and you click and you're like, oh wow, did I just hear those words? Or you see something on TV that you hear those words and it resonates and hits your soul. That's the Lord speaking to you. Sometimes when we're not in still's places and we're not having time with him in the word every day, he will use whatever manner that fits your lifestyle to reach your ears. And guess what, friends? It's pretty amazing when you start to recognize and realize exactly what he's doing. I mean, it's it's unbelievable how he's always talking to you. We've activated your ears. And Lord, I pray that every listener today's vision is activated to see you in everyday life, every second, because your signs, miracles, and wonders accompany us all. Let him be your guide. Here's your homework. I want you to write your vision. We've already talked about your purpose, your fire could come from so many things. But write your vision. Write what makes you happy. And then I want you to write out what is extinguishing your fire. What do you think you have that is holding you back? Whether it's habits, whether it's friends, whether it's places you're visiting, or whether it's even your job. Everything that brings you joy, take it to the Lord and ask if there's purpose in that. I mean, your list could be pages and pages long. It's up to you. But it's very eye-opening when you sit down and you have that revelation of where this change can and will begin to occur. Lay any heart pain at his feet. If you're holding on to some pain from emotional stretching or growth, that's okay. Lay it down and he will take care of it. Your fire will come when you quit holding on to what you've been hiding. That's why I'm asking you to write down what is hindering you. What do you feel like's holding you back? What do you feel like's crushing your joy or taking what once made you happy and now makes you feel heavy? If you don't believe me, ask him. And if you don't believe him, his word literally states that you can go to him and ask him to help you with your unbelief. I cannot wait to hear the stories when you reach out and tell me how he helped you with your unbelief, how he opened your eyes and how he ignited your fire. Listen, we are not in competition. We are put on this earth to build one another up. Whether you go into ministry, whatever you decide to do in life, let's build one another up. If my word resonates with you and can help you, then glory to God. Because if you're ready to find your fire, God is waiting today. There are a couple things that I want us to read out loud today. I want you to remember for the vision is not yet for an appointed time. Or it's sorry, for the vision is yet for an appointed time. Though it tarry, wait for it. Your revelation is coming. So, Lord, I want you to help them let their mouths speak live. So I want you to speak out loud over yourself. The fire in me is not gone. I declare and decree today that God is reigniting it. What he placed in me still has purpose. I will not grow cold. I will burn with holy passion for him again. Fire and not fatigue. I trust the good work that he has started in me, he will finish in the mighty name of Jesus. I will not burn out. I am being rebuilt. I am not finished. God is just getting started. I will no longer settle for survival. I will step into purpose, and what God placed in me will rise again because my fire comes from the God above. So, friends, I love you. I can't wait to hear from you. And as always, open your heart to something bigger than you. Remember, Happy Horizons Children Home is trying to raise money for a transitional home for the girls that have been rescued out of trafficking and sex slavery for after they graduate high school while they're getting further education. The link is in the show notes. And the Lord rejoices when we can do things for others because he has blessed us. And as always, advocates for Africa has a special place in my heart. Doing missionary work with them has changed my life and it can change yours too. Click on that for more information. And if you have questions, reach out. Till next time, friends, I love you and can't wait to see you next week.
