Grace and mercy. Two words you hear all the time. But what's the difference? I'm Bob Shaw, and this is Faith Fuel. Grace and mercy are both central to our faith, but a lot of people aren't exactly sure how they're different. And once you understand the difference, it changes how you see what God has done for you. Here's the simplest way to understand it. Grace is getting what you don't deserve. Mercy is not getting what you do deserve. Ephesians 2 verse 8 talks about grace. It reminds us that we're saved by grace through faith. That's not something we earned, it's something God gave. Forgiveness, salvation, a relationship with Him, all of that is grace. It's God giving you what you could never earn on your own. Then there's mercy. Lamentations three verses twenty-two and twenty-three reminds us that God's mercies are new every morning. Mercy is when God holds back what we do deserve. Because if we're honest, we all fall short. We all have things in our lives that deserve judgment. But instead of giving us what we deserve, God shows compassion. He withholds that judgment. That's mercy. And when you put those two together, it gives you a different perspective. You're not only spared from what you deserve, you're given what you could never earn. That's the heart of God. And none of it is based on your performance. It's not something you work for. It's not something you prove yourself worthy of. It's something you simply receive. And the right response to that is gratitude. Because now and then you'll hear people say, He doesn't deserve grace, or she doesn't deserve mercy. But that's the point. None of us do. Lord, thank you for your grace and your mercy. Thank you for giving us what we don't deserve and for holding back what we do. Help us never lose sight of what you've done for us, and teach us to live with gratitude for your love every day. In Jesus' name, Amen. Take a minute today to thank God for both his grace and his mercy, and let that shape how you see your relationship with him. If you want to keep growing in your faith day by day, follow Faith Fuel and stay grounded in God's truth. I'm Bob Shaw. Peace and joy.
