Life Goes Faster Than You Think

Life moves faster than most people realize.
In this special 100th episode of FaithFuel with Bob Shaw, Bob reflects on how quickly life passes, how priorities change over time, and why developing an eternal perspective changes the way people view relationships, faith, purpose, and everyday life.
Using Psalm 90:12 and James 4:14, this devotional encourages listeners not to waste their lives chasing temporary things while neglecting what truly lasts.
Because relationships, faith, character, and pointing people toward Christ carry eternal value.
And as Ferris Bueller famously said:
“Life moves pretty fast.”
I always appreciate hearing from you—feel free to reach out.

There's a famous line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. And the older you get, the more you realize how true that really is. I'm Bob Shaw, and welcome to the 100th episode of Faith Fuel. I think when you're younger, you assume there's always plenty of time. Then one day you realize entire chapters of your life are already behind you. High school, college, your twenties, raising kids, certain friendships, people who used to be here. And somehow it all feels both distant and recent at the same time. You know what I mean? You also start realizing that a lot of the things that once consumed your attention don't seem nearly as important anymore. Instead, you begin seeing more clearly what actually lasts. Relationships, faith, character, the way you treat people, the way you point people toward Christ. I think part of that is developing more of an eternal perspective. You start realizing this life here is temporary. And that doesn't only happen when you're older. I've seen 25-year-olds who really understand what truly matters. But wherever you are in life, it's never too late to start focusing more on the things that actually last. Psalm 90 verse 12 teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we may grow in wisdom. James 4 verse 14 says life is like a morning fog that appears briefly and then disappears. It's hard for me to believe that this is episode 100 of Faith Fuel already. In some ways it feels like it just started. And that ties directly into what we're talking about today. I think people sometimes overlook how much impact simple faithfulness can have over time, spending time with someone who needed encouragement, praying for somebody who's struggling, choosing forgiveness instead of carrying bitterness for years. Those are things people remember. And I have loved every minute of doing this podcast. If even one person was encouraged, strengthened, or pointed toward Jesus through each episode, that's 100 lives touched in some way. At the end of life, most people probably won't wish they spent more time chasing approval, status, or more stuff. But people do regret not spending enough time with God and the people they love. Ferris Bueller was right. Life moves pretty fast, so make the time count. Lord, thank you for every season of life and every opportunity you give us to love, serve, encourage, and point people toward you. Help us not waste our lives chasing things that ultimately do not last. Teach us to value faithfulness, relationships, character, and time with you above temporary things. And help us live intentionally with the time we've been given. In Jesus' name, Amen. And since this is episode 100, thank you for being part of this journey with me. Whether you've listened to one episode or many, I'm so grateful you're here. If Faith Fuel has encouraged you, would you take a second to leave a rating or review? It really does help more people find the podcast. And if you're newer to Faith Fuel, there's a whole collection of devotionals waiting for you, covering everything from suffering and forgiveness to relationships, spiritual questions, and everyday Christian living. I'm Bob Shaw. Peace and joy.
