I woke up thinking, it's gonna be another ordinary day. Silly me, it wasn't. I'm Bob Shaw, and this is Faith Fuel. A few weeks ago, my wife noticed something strange. The tile floor near our laundry room was warm. At first we thought maybe it had something to do with the washing machine, but the warm spot kept spreading. Sure enough, the plumber confirmed it. A slab leak. Within a couple of hours, our normal day had turned into conversations about rerouting pipes, repiping the house, copper or something called PECS, insurance, and a repair bill we never saw coming. That's life. One minute you're deciding what's for lunch, the next minute you're trying to figure out how you're gonna pay for a major home repair. Of course, not every surprise involves plumbing. Sometimes it's a phone call from the doctor, a company announcing layoffs. Fill in the blank. Life can change direction in a heartbeat. None of us gets a text message the day before saying, Tomorrow at two o'clock, your plans are gonna fall apart. That'd be nice to get a heads up like that, wouldn't it? But the question isn't whether the unexpected will come. It will. The question is what we do when it does. Will we panic? Will we trust God? Will we believe He's still with us even when our plans suddenly change? That's the challenge, because when something unexpected happens, it's easy to forget about God and go into emergency mode. We start trying to solve the problem before we even stop to pray. Isaiah forty one ten. Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Knowing God is with us doesn't mean we stop dealing with the problem. It means we don't have to face it by ourselves. And faith gives us someone to lean on while we're making the hard decisions. For us, that meant gathering information, talking to plumbers, checking to see if insurance would cover any of it, getting estimates, trying to understand our options. That's just being responsible. But eventually you reach the place where there aren't any more answers to gather. You've done your homework. Now you need wisdom. That's where James 1 five comes in. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. I'm glad I don't have to have all the answers. God is inviting me to ask him for wisdom for the next decision. Our plans change all the time. Gods never do. We're still dealing with the slab leak, the plumbers haven't finished, the decisions haven't all been made, but I know this, the God who was with us before that warm spot showed up on our floor is the same God who's with us today. And whatever unexpected turn life has taken for you, He's with you too. Lord, thank you that when life catches us by surprise, it never catches you by surprise. Thank you for being with us through every unexpected turn. Give us wisdom for the decisions in front of us and help us trust you one step at a time. In Jesus' name. Amen.
